Mancherial: Members of a joint committee formed following a directive by the National Green Tribunal inspected the Dry Resource Collection Centre (DRCC) on the outskirts of Andalamma Colony here on Monday.

Members of the committee comprising of Telangana Pollution Control Board Chief Environmental Engineer Hanumantha Rao, Zonal Officer Laxmi Prasad and Mancherial municipal commissioner A Maruthi Prasad inspected the DRCC.

They discussed ways to address the inconvenience caused by emanating of smoke due to burning of dry and wet waste generated from the Mancherial civic body to residents of Andalamma Colony and surrounding areas.

Maruthi Prasad said that steps were being taken to address the menace by 10 days by creating a permanent dumping yard.

He stated that Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) agreed to provide a piece of 25 acres for the facility, following a request made by the civic body.

He noted that the centre would be shifted to the land once it was handed over to the municipality. He added the process of transferring land was under progress.

Hyderabad: They ridiculed it in every way they could, from calling it a mammoth mistake, a waste of money, a scam to a flop show, flawed and useless.

But when every other source failed to quench the thirst of people in erstwhile Karimnagar, the very people who derided the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project are now depending on it.

The water-starved people of Ramadugu, Malyala, Boinpalli and Gangadhara mandals, who were at their wit’s end asking local authorities and elected representatives for water for several weeks, will testify to the significance of the Kaleshwaram Project.

They are now offering prayers expressing their gratitude to the Bahubali motors of the Gayatri pump house in Package 8 of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) for ending their travails overnight.

People in a cluster of villages in the vicinity of Lakshmipur are celebrating the arrival of water in their ponds and tanks ahead of the peak summer.

They are also hailing former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for his farsightedness that went into the construction of the Gayatri pump house, which bailed them out from acute scarcity conditions today.

Earlier, on Sunday, with pressure mounting pressure following repeated protests by the public and farmers, the State government issued special instructions to initiate steps to augment the supply of drinking water in different gram panchayats where people were up in arms for water.

The Lakshmipur underground pumping station (Gayatri pump house) of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project came in handy for them. The Gayatri pump house, equipped with seven Bahubali motors of 139 MW capacity each, will lift three tmc of water a day.

Known for its highest pumping and motor capacity in the world and its support of the largest surge pool facilities, just one of the seven pumps was switched on, resuming its operation around 4 pm on Sunday.

Water was lifted to the Sriramsagar Flood Flow Canal, filling many of the drinking water supply sources up to the Mid Manair project with 0.1 tmc of water, and the operation was completed in just three hours, thereby complying with the special instructions issued by the government.

This emergency supply has been sourced from the Sripada Yellampalli project, which has been left with only 7.85 tmc of water as against its gross storage capacity of 20.17 tmc.

The water from Sripada Yellampalli was the only hope to cater to the drinking water needs of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and towns and habitations en route.

Welcoming the government decision to draw water from the KLIS sources to meet the drinking water needs in Karimnagar villages, V Prakash Rao, former chairman, Telangana Water Resources Development Corporation, said the real importance of Kaleshwaram was known in meeting such emergencies.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy must realize that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme was the only dependable source for a major part of the State, he said.

Revanth Reddy must take steps to ensure that the lift operation from Medigadda barrage is resumed at least by the next Yasangi season by completing the project rehabilitation task at the earliest.

When the NDSA wanted the barrages of KLIP to be emptied to facilitate end-to-end investigation of the structures, the water should have been lifted to the reservoirs upstream instead of letting them flow down to the sea.

Such a measure would have given an additional advantage to the State, wherein many projects, including Mid Maniar, were on the verge of going empty, he said.

'Goal Is To Play For India': Pacer, Forgotten By BCCI, After Troubling CSK

Following his side’s 20-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) game, Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Khaleel Ahmed said that he has worked extremely hard in the domestic season, and his ultimate goal is to play for India. Delhi Capitals clinched their first win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with a 20-run triumph over the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Khaleel was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his spell of 2/21 in four overs.

Following the win, Khaleel said during the post-match presentation, “I have worked hard in the domestic season. I played a lot of matches in the last six months, which has helped me know my game better. I love it when the ball swings and the batters get beaten. Have tried to figure out how I can keep myself fit. The red-ball game teaches you a lot about how the ball is coming out of the hand. The ultimate goal is to play for India.”

Khaleel featured in six Ranji Trophy 2024 matches, taking 14 wickets at an average of 25.78, with the best bowling figures of 4/19.

DC won the toss and opted to bat first. David Warner (52 in 35 balls, with five fours and three sixes) and a returning Prithvi Shaw (43 in 27 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) started off well with a 93-run opening partnership. Following their dismissal, DC lost their direction for a while until Rishabh Pant (51 in 32 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) scored some quick runs to take the side to 191/5 in their 20 overs.

Matheesha Pathirana (3/31) was the pick of the bowlers for CSK.

In the run-chase of 192, Khaleel Ahmed (2/21) and Mukesh Kumar (3/21) troubled the CSK batters with their line and length, and at one point, CSK was 75/3 in 10.2 overs. Useful knocks came from Ajinkya Rahane (45 in 30 balls, with five fours and two sixes), Daryl Mitchell (34 in 26 balls, with a four and two sixes) and MS Dhoni (37* in 16 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes), but DC secured a 20-run win, restricting the five-time champions to 171/6.

Khaleel got the ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning spell.

CSK is in the second spot with two wins and a loss, giving them four points. DC is in the seventh spot, with a win and two losses, giving them two points.

Prague Hospital Performs Abortion On Wrong Woman Due To Language Barrier

Prague Hospital Performs Abortion On Wrong Woman Due To Language Barrier

The staff responsible for the mix-up have been suspended

A shocking mistake at a Prague hospital resulted in a foreign woman undergoing an abortion she never wanted. CNN Prima News reported that the four-month-pregnant woman arrived for a routine checkup on March 25th at Bulovka University Hospital.

Incredibly, a series of errors allowed her to be anesthetized and operated on, despite being the wrong patient. Hospital staff, including nurses, doctors, a gynaecologist, and even the anesthesiologist,  failed to identify her correctly. The hospital blames a language barrier for the nightmarish mix-up.

The healthy pregnant woman was then subjected to a curettage, a type of uterus surgery and method of abortion, that was scheduled for the other patient. Following the procedure, the woman miscarried.

The media outlet reported that aside from gross staff negligence, a language barrier led to the traffic incident.

Speaking to Czech media outlet Seznam Zpravy, gynaecologist and vice-chairman of the Czech Medical Chamber Jan Prada said: ‘A Czech-speaking patient would probably actively resist the fact that she is going to undergo a procedure that she does not understand’.

“The goal must be to do a root analysis, identify the causes, and set a process so that this never happens again,” David Marx, chair of the Czech Society for Quality in Healthcare, told the news outlet.

“According to the findings so far, as a result of a serious violation of internal regulations on the part of the employees concerned, the surgical procedure was initiated on the incorrectly identified patient,’ Bulovka spokeswoman Eva Stolejda Libigerova told CNN Prima News.

The staff responsible for the mix-up have been suspended and the hospital is investigating the incident.

‘If violations of mandatory working procedures are revealed as part of the ongoing internal investigation, specific individuals will be held personally responsible for it,’ the spokeswoman added.
