Adilabad: Officials of the Education department issued a show-cause notice against M Mahender Yadav, a School Assistant at the Zilla Parishad Secondary School in Bharampur village in Thalamadugu mandal on Monday.

As per the notice issued by District Educational Officer T Pranitha, Yadav was asked why action should not be initiated against him for touring a foreign country flouting norms. "I'm Haunted Every Day": Sam Bankman-Fried Speaks Out After Sentencing

'I'm Haunted Every Day': Sam Bankman-Fried Speaks Out After Sentencing

Mr Fried was on a pinnacle of success, leading a luxurious life, to a sudden downfall.

Former crypto entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in jail last week following his conviction in one of the biggest financial fraud cases in history. In an interview with ABC News, Mr Fried said he is remorseful for his actions.

“It’s most of what I think about each day,” he told the media outlet.

Mr Fried was on a pinnacle of success, leading a luxurious life, to a sudden downfall.

He was found guilty of multiple counts of fraud in 2023 after the spectacular crash of his cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

“I never thought that what I was doing was illegal. But I tried to hold myself to a high standard, and I certainly didn’t meet that standard,” he told ABC News in an email.

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate and a billionaire before the age of 30, Sam Bankman-Fried conquered the crypto world at breakneck speed, turning FTX, a small start-up he cofounded in 2019, into the world’s second-largest exchange platform.

But in November 2022, the FTX empire imploded, unable to cope with massive withdrawal requests from customers panicked to learn that some of the funds stored at the company had been committed to risky operations at Sam Bankman-Fried’s personal hedge fund, Alameda Research.

During the trial, some of Sam Bankman-Fried’s closest associates said that he was key to all the decisions that saw $8 billion vanish from FTX.

“I’ve heard and seen the despair, frustration and sense of betrayal from thousands of customers; they deserve to be paid in full, at current price,” he told the media outlet.

“That could and should have happened in November 2022, and it could and should happen today. It’s excruciating to see them waiting, day after day,” he added.

He added that he “felt the pain” from co-workers as he “threw away what they poured their lives into” and from the charities he supported “as their funding turned into nothing but reputational damage.”

“I’m haunted, every day, by what was lost. I never intended to hurt anyone or take anyone’s money. But I was the CEO of FTX, I was responsible for what happened to the company, and when you’re responsible it doesn’t matter why it goes bad. I’d give anything to be able to help repair even part of the damage. I’m doing what I can from prison, but it’s deeply frustrating not to be able to do more,” he told ABC News.

The downfall began on November 7, 2022 when a rival executive tweeted about FTX’s financial stability, triggering panic among customers and sparking a massive bank run that drained billions from the platform. Despite efforts to stem the bleeding, the damage was irreversible, resulting in over $8 billion in missing customer funds and the bankruptcy of the company.

During Mr Bankman-Fried’s trial, two conflicting narratives emerged about his involvement, with some calling him a brilliant but unwitting CEO, while others accusing him of knowingly siphoning billions of dollars of customer money.

Mahabubnagar MLC bypoll: Counting postponed to June 2

Hyderabad: Counting of votes polled in the Mahabubnagar Local Authorities constituency MLC bypoll has been postponed to June 2 in the wake of the Lok Sabha model code of conduct being in vogue.

Earlier, the counting of votes was scheduled to be held for Tuesday. The by-election was held last Thursday amidst tight security.

Authorities said that of the 1,439 voters, 1,437 voters exercised their franchise at the 10 polling stations established for the election.

The Election Commission of India on Monday said the administrative machinery involved in conduct of the by-election was also involved in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Engaging the same machinery for the conduct of voting may compromise the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, the ECI said in a notification.

The Mahabubnagar Local Authorities MLC by-election was held after Kasireddy Narayan Reddy contested and won the Assembly elections from Kalwakurthy constituency. After winning the elections, he resigned as MLC.

From the Congress, Manne Jeevan Reddy was in the fray while for the BRS, N Naveen Kumar Reddy contested the elections.

Premier Probe Agencies "Spread Too Thin": Justice DY Chandrachuds Advice

Premier Probe Agencies 'Spread Too Thin', Cautions Justice DY Chandrachud

The premier investigative agencies of the country have been spread too thin and they must only focus on cases that involve national security and crimes against the nation, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said today. Delivering the 20th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture on CBI Raising Day, Justice Chandrachud also flagged how technology has changed the crime terrain and  the agency is now facing a complex challenge.

“The CBI is being increasingly asked to delve into diverse array of criminal cases beyond its role as anti-corruption investigative agency. This places a huge responsibility on CBI to live upto its motto,” Justice Chandrachud said.

“I think we have spread out the premier investigative agencies too thin. They must only focus on those that concern national security and crimes of economic offences against the nation,” the Chief Justice added, pointing out that the force consists largely of officers on deputation.

The solution, he suggested, was digitising the investigation process that can begin from the filing of a First Information Report.  Given the huge number of cases, technology needs to be leveraged to reduce delays.

“All arms of the criminal justice administration and all stakeholders including the FSLs must collaborate by holding workshops to help confront challenged we face,” he said.

The other changes should include upgrading the probe agency by making structural reforms.

Also, artificial Intelligence must be harnessed fir the best outcome. Calling it a “game changer” that can revolutionise  criminal justice, he said it can be used to mine potential leads and data “with unprecedented accuracy”.

Congress government left farmers in lurch to prove Kaleshwaram as failure: KTR

Congress government left farmers in lurch to prove Kaleshwaram as failure: KTR

Nalgonda: Holding the Congress-led government responsible for the drought-like crisis in Telangana, BRS working president KT Rama Rao pointed out the government’s failure to utilise the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) effectively, leading to water scarcity across the State.

Despite previous criticisms of the project’s efficacy, he noted the sudden release of water to Karimnagar, indicating political maneuvering rather than genuine concern for farmers’ welfare.

“As we have been pointing out, this drought is not a result of natural circumstances but rather the incompetence of the ruling Congress party. To showcase that the Kaleshwaram project is a failure and to blame the BRS regime, the State government emptied all barrages and released water downstream citing the Medigadda barrage inspection. Instead, they could have lifted the available water to fill all water bodies upstream and avoided this crisis to a large extent,” he said.

Rama Rao, who called on farmers Ganneboina Mallaiah Yadav and Byreddy (Borewell) Ram Reddy in Mushampally village of Nalgonda district on Monday, enquired with them about their crops.

He assured that the BRS would fight on behalf of farmers and pressurise the government to fulfill its promises. He called out the Congress leaders for their failure to address the crisis effectively, urging them to prioritise welfare of farmers over political agenda.

The State government was shocked at the response to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s visit to Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on Sunday.

Ahead of his proposed visit to Karimnagar and Rajanna-Sircilla districts on April 5, the government released water from Sripada Yellampally project as a firefighting measure, he said, asking Congress leaders who termed the Kaleshwaram project as a mammoth failure until yesterday, to explain how water could be released from Sripada Yellampally project to Karimnagar using the massive pumps of the KLIP.

Stating that the State government was not taking contingency measures to safeguard drying crops in lakhs of acres only to cause disrepute to Chandrashekhar Rao and prove the Kaleshwaram project as a failure, Rama Rao demanded immediate relief measures for farmers.

He cited the plight of Borla Ramireddy, a symbol of Telangana farmers’ struggles, underscoring the drastic decline in agricultural conditions under the current regime compared to the BRS rule.

Challenging the government’s apathy, the BRS working president asked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Ministers to visit affected areas like Mushampally and confront the harsh realities faced by farmers.

Former Minister G Jagadish Reddy and other leaders were also present.

If you bat first, you need to score big here. It’s a red soil pitch, looks great and has a generous covering of grass. You are going to see a lot of runs. Congress’ criticism of Kaleshwaram proved wrong by lifting of water from Gayatri pump house, says BRS

Congress’ criticism of Kaleshwaram proved wrong by lifting of water from Gayatri pump house, says BRS

Irrigation officials lifted Godavari water by operating the sixth Bahubali pump of Gayatri pump house and dumped it in the FFC on Sunday

Karimnagar: The criticism of the ruling Congress and other political parties of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project has been proved wrong with the lifting of Godavari water through the Gayatri pump house, BRS leaders said here on Monday.

In the wake of growing demand for water and farmers’ agitations for the release of water into the Flood Flow Canal of the SRSP project, irrigation officials lifted Godavari water by operating the sixth Bahubali pump of Gayatri pump house and dumped it in the FFC on Sunday.

The Congress and other political parties were attacking the previous BRS government accusing it of wasting money on the Kaleshwaram project. However, the same project helped to solve the problems of farmers by supplying water to standing crops, former Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar said.

“Though adequate water was available in Yellampalli, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, the State government was deliberately denying water to blame BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said.

Water from Yellampalli reservoir was taken to Nandimedaram pump house through the gravity canal. Later, water was lifted to Gayatri pump house from where it was lifted and dumped into the flood flow canal facilitating the farmers to supply water to standing crops by drawing from the canal.

Initially, water was supplied to the upstream area of the canal in Mallial mandal by closing gates at Shanagar. Later, it was diverted downstream up to Mid Manair by lifting the gates. Water will be available in the canal if the gates were closed at Vardavelli of Boinpalli mandal and farmers from Ramadugu, Gangadhara, Boinpalli and Mallial mandal will get the water.

Pointing out that in the wake of sinking of three pillars of Medigadda barrage, the State government had stalled lifting of Kaleshwaram water this year, Ravishankar stated that this had resulted in standing crops in the FFC command area withering. Worried about their crops, farmers were staging protests demanding officials to release water into FFC.

On Sunday, Ravishankar also staged a dharna at the canal near Kondannapalli bridge of Gangadhara mandal. With Chandrashekhar Rao visiting Jangaon and Nalgonda on Sunday as well, officials immediately released water into the canal on Sunday evening, Ravishankar said.
