Iranian Culture Minister condemns Israeli aggression on Iran

Undoubtedly, the destruction of global Zionism is the punishment for assassination of Brig Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his comrades, Mohammad Mahdi Esmaeili, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance wrote.

“Our relentless struggle continues until its realization,” Esmaeili said.

“As in the past, we will not hesitate to take any cultural and media initiative to explain the unprecedented barbarities of Zionism,” he said.

Today, more than ever, it is clear to the aware people of Iran how global Zionism is determined to kill the free people and the defenseless barefoot people of the world, he said.

The Israeli regime attacked Iran’s consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Monday evening. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.

Seven of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors were martyred following the Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus on Monday, IRGC said in a statement.

Reacting to the Israeli aggression, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan’ani on Monday night said that the Islamic Republic of Iran, while reserving its rights to take countermeasures, decides on the type of reaction and punishment of the aggressor.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria stressed that the country will give a decisive response to the Israeli regime.

Anti-Muslim incidents in US reach record high in 2023

Discrimination and attacks against Muslims and Palestinians in the United States have reached an all-time high, with over 8,000 incidents reported in 2023, fueled by increasing Islamophobia during the Israeli war on Gaza.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a report indicating a significant surge of 56% in reported cases, marking the highest figure since the organization’s inception almost three decades ago.

According to the report, 3,600 anti-Muslim hate incidents out of the total 8,061 complaints were reported between October and December alone, reversing the positive trend observed in 2022 when complaints had dropped for the first time.

Incidents in the initial nine months of 2023 averaged 500 per month but spiked to almost 1,200 per month in the final quarter.

“The primary force behind this wave of heightened Islamophobia was the escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine in October 2023,” the report said.

The United States has seen a series of disturbing attacks targeting individuals of Palestinian descent, including the fatal October stabbing of 6-year-old Palestinian American Wadea al-Fayoume in Illinois, the November shooting of three students of Palestinian descent in Vermont, and the February stabbing of a Palestinian American man in Texas.

Meanwhile, pro-Palestinian demonstrations have surged in the United States and across the world in recent months with college campuses becoming a focal point for these protests.

“Employers, universities, and schools were among the primary actors suppressing speech by those who sought to vocally oppose Israel’s genocidal onslaught on Gaza and call attention to Palestinian human rights, particularly Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians,” the report read.

The report has also brought to attention the actions taken by various schools to ban Palestinian-affiliated student groups in response to the genocide in Gaza, as well as reports of job seekers facing obstacles due to their support for Palestinians.

Reports from human rights advocates worldwide also indicate a surge in Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian bias.

Israel waged its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 32,845 Palestinians and injured 75,392 others.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will file his nomination in Wayanad on Wednesday from where he is seeking re-election.

Before filing the papers, he will take part in a roadshow in the constituency. And after the process is complete, he will return to Delhi on the same day.

Kerala goes to the polls on April 26 in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections to elect all its 20 MPs.

Rahul Gandhi’s opponents include CPI candidate Annie Raja, who is the wife of CPI General Secretary D. Raja and the BJP’s state president K.Surendran.

Surendran has been taking potshots at Rahul Gandhi, and said, “It’s nice that Gandhi is finally coming to Wayanad to file his nomination.”

The state BJP chief has accused the Congress leader of doing nothing in the constituency where he has hardly come in the last five years.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also taken a dig at Rahul Gandhi for contesting the polls from the constituency against Annie Raja of CPI, a party that is a part of the INDIA bloc.

In the 2019 polls, Rahul Gandhi secured a landslide victory, with the highest margin of 4.31 lakh votes in the state.

"If There's One Thing You Should Know…": Hardik's Message On MI's Loss

Mumbai Indians succumbed to their third successive defeat of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, going down to Rajasthan Royals in the match on Monday. Hardik, since his appointment as the Mumbai Indians skipper, is yet to win a single match for his side. He looked in fine touch with the bat against the Royals but couldn’t convert his cameo into a bigger knock. As MI suffered yet another defeat in the ongoing campaign, Hardik took to social media to post an inspirational message.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Mumbai Indians captain said: “If there’s one thing you should know about this team, we never give up. We’ll keep fighting, we’ll keep going.”

Hardik’s post is truly a fiery message for fans who have already started to give up on Mumbai Indians achieving success this year.

After the game, Hardik admitted that it was his wicket that shifted the balance of the game in Rajasthan’s favour.

“Yes, a tough night, we didn’t start the way we wanted to start. I wanted to counter, we were in a decent position to get us around 150-160, but my wicket allowed them to get back more into the game, I needed to do a lot more. It’s okay, we didn’t expect such a surface, but you can’t always have it as a batter, it’s nice at times for the bowlers to have a say.

“It’s all about doing the right things, (correct) results happen at times, at some other times it doesn’t. As a group, we believe we can do a lot better, but we need to be a bit more disciplined and show a lot more courage,” Hardik had said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

With three losses in as many matches, Mumbai find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.

President Raeisi: Israel’s heinous crime will not go unanswered

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi (By IRNA)

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi says Israel has resorted to indiscriminate assassinations after back-to-back failures in the face of the resistance, warning that the regime’s latest crime against Iranian military advisers in Syria “will not go unanswered.”

Raeisi made the remarks in a statement released on Tuesday, a day after Israeli airstrikes destroyed Iran’s consulate building in Damascus and killed seven military advisors of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

He condemned Israel’s “inhumane invasion” as a “flagrant violation of international regulations” and extended condolences to the Iranian nation over the martyrdom of the IRGC advisors.

The usurping Zionist regime, he added, has committed another “terrorist crime” and stained its “dirty hands” with the blood of several Iranian generals and officers.

“After repeated defeats and failures in the face of the faith and will of the Resistance Front fighters, the Zionist regime has put indiscriminate assassinations on its agenda in the struggle to save itself, but it should know that it will never achieve it sinister goals with such inhumane actions,” the Iranian chief executive said.

“Day by day, Israel will witness the strengthening of the resistance front and the disgust and hatred of free nations towards its own illegitimate nature. This cowardly crime will not go unanswered.”

Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian consulate, situated next to the embassy building in Damascus’s Mezzeh district, on Monday afternoon.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps named Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi as among the martyrs of the terrorist attack.

Iranian officials have vowed a firm response to the Israeli crime that violated all international obligations and conventions.

"Won't Go Unanswered": Iran President On Israel Attack On Embassy In Syria

'Won't Go Unanswered': Iran President On Israel Attack On Embassy In Syria

Tehran:

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday condemned a deadly air strike blamed on Israel against his country’s consular annex in Damascus, saying the “cowardly crime will not go unanswered”.

“After repeated defeats and failures against the faith and will of the Resistance Front fighters, the Zionist regime has put blind assassinations on its agenda in the struggle to save itself,” Raisi said on his office’s website.

“Day by day, we have witnessed the strengthening of the Resistance Front and the disgust and hatred of free nations towards the illegitimate nature of (Israel). This cowardly crime will not go unanswered.”

The air strike on the Iranian embassy’s five-storey annex killed seven members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, which runs Iran’s overseas military operations.

Among the dead, were Brigadier Generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, both senior commanders in the Quds Force, Guards’ foreign operations arm.

Zahedi, 63, had held a succession of commands in the force in a Guards career spanning more than four decades.

Israel declined to comment on the strike.

The UN Security Council was to discuss the deadly strike later Tuesday at a meeting requested by Syrian ally Russia.

“Iran reserves its legitimate and inherent right under international law and the United Nations Charter to take a decisive response to such reprehensible acts,” Iran’s mission to the world body said.

It warned the strike could “potentially ignite more conflict involving other nations” and called on the Security Council “to condemn this unjustified criminal act.”

"Absolute Defiance": Court Rebukes Patanjali, Centre In Misleading Ads Row

'Absolute Defiance': Court Rebukes Patanjali, Centre In Misleading Ads Row

Patanjali Ayurved was co-founded by Baba Ramdev in 2006.

New Delhi:

Patanjali Ayurved co-founder Baba Ramdev; the company’s top executive, Acharya Balakrishna; and the centre were reprimanded by the Supreme Court Tuesday during a hearing on misleading advertisements, including those that disparage modern medicine and medical practitioners.

Ramdev and Balakrishna were rapped for “absolute defiance” after filing improper versions of affidavits demanded by the court, while the centre was asked why it “chose to keep its eyes shut” despite Patanjali claiming Western medicine offered no protection against the COVID-19 virus.

A bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah also asked the Ministry of AYUSH why it had not acted against Patanjali after “shocking” ads belittling contemporary medicine.

“We have questions for AYUSH…COVID was in 2022 and you (the centre) stated these (ayurvedic medicines) were, at best, a supplement to the main (the vaccines)… but this was not publicised… you did nothing to make this known. It was a critical period,” Justice Kohli said sternly.

This is the second time in three months the centre has been rebuked; in February, the Supreme Court said “the government is sitting with its eyes closed” and demanded immediate action against “false” and “misleading” advertisements. “This is very unfortunate…” the court had said then.

The court then also urged the centre to find a remedy to the issue of misleading medical ads.

The court today also ripped into Ramdev and Balakrishna for the causal manner in which an affidavit – offering an unconditional apology for the ads – was filed last month. A furious court called the affidavit “indefensible” and “humbug”, and even suggested Patanjali Ayurved could be guilt of perjury.

“You should have made sure the solemn undertaking should have been in letter and spirit. We can also say we are ‘sorry’… for not accepting it (the apology)… it is more of a lip service,” the court said.

The court was angered that Patanjali had, prima facie, continued to run ads ruled as misleading last year. The claim that the company’s media unit was unaware of the court order was dismissed.

“…every order passed by courts across the country has to be respected. This is absolute defiance,” a bench of Justice Hima Kohli and said, after Patanjali Ayurved’s lawyer folded his hands in apology.

“You have to abide by every undertaking given to the court… and you have broken every barrier,” a clearly displeased court told both Ramdev and Balakrishna, who were ordered to be present.

Responding to the court’s strong words, Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta acknowledged “what has happened should not have happened”. “It appears (that) the way the affidavits should have come… it has not come,” he told the court, underlining, however, that the centre could not take sides.

“What I am suggesting is… if Your Lordships permit… then I can sit with the counsel (for Patanjali) and (decide) what can be done,” he continued, to which the court said, “We will decide that.”

Ramdev and Balakrishna have been given “one last chance” and must file the affidavits, in a proper manner, in one week. They must also present when the court hears this matter next – on April 10.

The top court is hearing a contempt case against Patanjali Ayurved over publication of advertisements making false claims about its products and their medical efficacy.

On February 27 the court had directed Patanjali to stop all electronic and print ads giving misleading information, with immediate effect.
