"Will Now Back INDIA Bloc": 22 Leaders Quit Chirag Paswan's Party

'Will Now Back INDIA Bloc': Denied Tickets, 22 Leaders Quit Chirag Paswan's Party

One of the leaders claimed Chirag Paswan “sold the tickets”.

Patna:

In an upheaval within the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), 22 party leaders have tendered their resignations simultaneously while expressing anger at not getting tickets for the Lok Sabha elections.

Among the notable figures who stepped down include former minister Renu Kushwaha, former MLA and national general secretary of LJP, Satish Kumar, state organisation minister Ravindra Singh, Ajay Kushwaha, Sanjay Singh and State General Secretary Rajesh Dangi.

The resignation wave appears to stem from grievances within the party ranks, with allegations surfacing about the distribution of tickets in exchange for money.

On her resignation from the party, former MP Renu Kushwaha said, “Ticket should be given to the party workers instead of people the from outside. Tickets were given to the outsiders which means that able people are not there in your party. Are we the labour class people in your party who will work for you, make you a leader? Our devotion was questioned when an outsider was given a ticket. We are not here to serve as labourers for the party.”

Miffed over not getting the ticket, former MLA and national general secretary of LJP Satish Kumar asserted that the rebel LJP leaders will now support the INDIA bloc.

“When such important elections are there in the country, the LJP Supremo has given tickets to such people that the party workers are stunned. The people who used to raise slogans ‘Hail Chirag Paswan’, day and night and hoped for a ‘new Bihar’ have been betrayed, their aspirations were crushed. Now, to save the country, INDI alliance has to be supported. Now we will support the INDI alliance,”

The party’s Organisation Secretary Ravindra Singh claimed that Chirag Paswan “sold the tickets”. “Chirag Paswan has played an emotional game with the people of Bihar. When he got five seats due to our hard work, he sold all those tickets. People of Bihar will give him an answer,” he said.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is contesting five out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar – Vaishali, Hajipur, Samastipur, Khagaria and Jamui.

Bihar will see polling in seven phases. The first phase will be held on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third on May 7, fourth on May 13, fifth on May 20, sixth on May 25, and seventh on June 1.

6 US Prisoners Sue Authorities To Be Allowed To See April 8 Solar Eclipse

6 US Prisoners Sue Authorities To Be Allowed To See April 8 Solar Eclipse

The corrections department declined to comment on the lawsuit. (Representational)

Six US prisoners have sued authorities to be allowed to see the year’s biggest astronomic event, a total solar eclipse on April 8.

The inmates argued in a court filing that their right to religious freedom would be violated if the New York state prison service upheld a planned penitentiary lockdown during the eclipse.

“Eclipses, like the one on April 8, are recognized by various religions as special events that warrant gathering, celebration, worship, and prayer,” said the submission lodged on March 29.

“(The inmates) have each expressed a sincerely held religious belief that April’s solar eclipse is a religious event.”

New York’s Department of Corrections said in an advisory issued last week that “for facilities in the path of totality, visitation will be canceled.”

The path of totality is the area under which the Moon will fully block out the Sun.

The document did not give reasons for the restrictions in the state, one of eleven that will be in the path of totality for the eclipse, according to officials.

The department said in a statement that prisoners in the state’s custody would be “returned to their housing units” ahead of the eclipse.

While state “correctional facilities will operate on a holiday schedule with only programs required by statute operating,” prisoners will nonetheless be issued with eclipse safety glasses, the statement added.

“The solar eclipse is recognized as an event of great religious significance for Christians, including for Baptists like Plaintiff Travis Hudson and Seventh Day Adventists like Plaintiff David Haigh,” the prisoners’ lawsuit said.

“A total solar eclipse is also an event of great religious significance for Atheists, such as Plaintiff Jeremy Zielinski,” the lawsuit added.

Yet another complaintnant is arguing that the eclipse has a religious significance for Muslims.

The corrections department declined to comment on the lawsuit.

An estimated 32 million people live inside the path of totality, with an additional 150 million residing less than 200 miles (320 kilometers) from the strip, NASA says.

The Perryman Group, a Texas-based research firm, estimates direct and indirect economic impacts of this year’s eclipse could reach $6 billion.

This year’s path of totality is about 115 miles wide, wider than in 2017. It begins in western Mexico, arches up through the US cities of Dallas, Indianapolis, and Buffalo, before ending in eastern Canada.

Many schools along the path will be closed or letting students out early, including in Cleveland and Montreal.

Raeisi: Operation Al-Aqsa Storm turning point in history of Palestinian cause

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi addresses the virtual Al-Quds Pulpit ceremony, which was held simultaneously in Tehran, Damascus, Sana’a, Beirut, and Baghdad al-Quds pulpit ceremony ahead of the International Quds Day, in Tehran, April 3, 2024. (President.ir)

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi says Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was a turning point in the history of the Palestinian cause.

The region and the wider world, the Iranian president stated, will not be the same after the glorious operation.

Raeisi made the remarks in an address to the virtual Al-Quds Pulpit ceremony, which was held simultaneously in Tehran, Damascus, Sana’a, Beirut, and Baghdad on Wednesday ahead of the International Al-Quds Day.

Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was a reaction to years of Israeli devastation, oppression, and savagery amid the indifference and silence of human rights organizations, the president said.

“Al-Aqsa Storm is a turning point in the history of the fight against the occupation, and the course of the Palestinian battle is divided into before and after the operation,” he said.

“The world and the region will not return to the conditions before this operation, and the insane perpetration of war crimes and the massacre of women and children by the Zionists will not cover up their irreparable defeats,” the president added.

DC vs KKR: Mukesh out, Sumit in for Delhi

“We would have batted first as well, could get a bit slower. It was nice to be back with the group, but I’m not thinking too far ahead. The bowlers did a great job, the fast bowlers, and we’d like them to do it once again. Not thinking about the team combination for the first two games, but we’ve had people working hard in the nets. We just need to keep doing the right things – one change, Mukesh is injured and he’s replaced by Sumit,” said Rishabh Pant.

  • 19:06 (IST)

IPL 2024 Live Score: One change for KKR

“We’ll bat first. The wicket looks like a belter, no drastic change in the wicket when compared to the last game. It’s been quite a journey, was a with Delhi and now with KKR, I’m comfortable with this switch. Anything can happen on a given day, it’s important to stick to the process. We’ve Sunil (Narine) coming in and going after the bowlers in the first 6 overs, so his role is very clear and the rest know what’s expected of them. One change – Angrish Raghuvanshi comes in,” said Shreyas Iyer at the toss.

  • 19:04 (IST)

IPL 2024 Live: KKR opt to bat first vs DC!

DC vs KKR: Starc yet to get in his groove

  • 18:39 (IST)

IPL 2024 Live Score: Kolkata eye hat-trick of wins

KKR, on the other hand, have looked good this season, registering two wins from as many games. Opener Phil Salt, all-rounder Andre Rusell and Venkatesh Iyer have been in good nick in the first two games and would look to pose a challenge for the Delhi pacers. Skipper Shreyas Iyer also got some runs under his belt in the win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

  • 18:35 (IST)

IPL 2024 Live: The Nortje concern for DC

South African Anrich Nortje is yet to find his rhythm as he returned to action after a long injury layoff. The Capitals’ Indian pace unit will thus have to punch above its weight against a formidable KKR side. Khaleel Ahmed’s performance against CSK was commendable, yet his long-standing fielding troubles remain a concern. He struggles particularly with aerial catches, dropping more than he successfully takes. He dropped a catch of MS Dhoni against CSK. Mukesh Kumar lacks pace while veteran Ishant Sharma is more than capable of asking pertinent questions.

  • 18:23 (IST)

Back to DC vs KKR game –

For DC, the onus will be on Prithvi Shaw and veteran Australian David Warner to provide a solid start. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant continues his inspirational journey. After two scratchy innings, the skipper gave a glimpse of his devastating best as he scored his maiden fifty (51 off 32 balls) of the season and seems to be slowly finding his groove. The likes of South African Tristan Stubbs and Australian Mitchell Marsh, both capable of launching an assault on the opposition, need to be better towards the end as DC lack domestic power hitters.

However, when Chandrashekhar Rao started visiting fields, the release of water started by operating the Gayatri pump house.

How was the water, which was not available all these days, made available all of sudden, he asked, also questioning why the State government had not taken up repair works on the Medigadda barrage pillars.

Speaking after inaugurating the BRS mandal party office in Gangadhara of Choppadandi constituency on Wednesday, Vinod Kumar said that before elections, Congress leaders made impossible promises thinking that they would not come to power.

Now, they were facing troubles to implement the promises. As for the parliament elections, both the Congress and BJP had an understanding and Congress was helping for the victory of BJP candidates by fielding dummy aspirants in many segments.

He hoped that the people would teach a befitting lesson to Karimnagar MP and BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

Israel to receive slap in face for consulate attack: Leader

The Leader received the government officials, military commanders, former officials, lawmakers, the heads of the three branches of the Iranian government (legislative or parliament, executive or government and Judiciary), a report by the national TV’s correspondent said earlier on Wednesday.

President Ebrahim Raeisi presented a report about his administration’s performance and future programs to the Leader at the meeting, which was held in Imam Khomeini Hoseyniyeh in downtown Tehran.

This was the fourth meeting by the Leader during this Ramadan.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the Monday terrorist attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria’s capital of Damascus and said that the cowardly attack by the Zionist regime will not save the Zionists from their defeat.

“The cowardly efforts by the Zionist regime like the one they carried out in Syria will not save them from defeat. They will of course receive a slap in the face for this move,” the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said, according to Press TV.

“The Zionist regime’s defeat in Gaza will continue and this regime will approach demise and collapse,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader touched upon Iran’s current economic situation and said that the country is undertaking some vast economic infrastructure endeavors that will pay off in the future.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iran has been going through some “sweet and bitter” economic experiences in recent years as he insisted that more work is needed to be done to improve the country’s economic situation.

“The sweet part of the economy entails the vast infrastructure activities which will bear results in the middle run and in the not-so distant future,” he said.

Watch: Russell Floored By Ishant's Yorker. His Reaction Can't Be Missed

Ishant Sharma produced a stunning yorker that completely floored Andre Russell during the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday. In the final over of the KKR innings, Ishant produced a devastating delivery that crashed into the stumps and left Russell on the floor. The video of the dismissal has already gone viral on social media and during his walk towards the dugout, even Russell could not help but applaud the delivery. However, the effort was not enough as KKR ended up scoring a mammoth 272/7 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals.

Sunil Narine produced a six-hitting exhibition en route to a blistering 85 while young Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a fifty on his IPL batting debut as Kolkata Knight Riders posted an imposing 272 for seven against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.

Continuing his explosive run, Narine punished all Delhi bowlers alike, sending the ball over the boundary rope seven times. He also hit seven fours in his 39-ball stay.

The Capitals were guilty of dropping him on 53 and Narine made his opponents suffer as he notched his highest-ever score in T20 cricket.

Raghuvanshi (54 off 27 balls), who didn’t get to bat in his first IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, also fired on all cylinders, complementing Narine as the pair shared an explosive 104-run stand off 48 balls.

Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8 balls) provided the final flourish to KKR.

It was a forgettable performance by the Delhi bowlers as they conceded the highest total in the team’s history. KKR hit as many as 18 sixes and 28 fours.

Narine his his first of many boundaries when he creamed a short ball by Khaleel Ahmed to deep point.

The West Indian took a special liking for veteran pacer Ishant Sharma, collecting 26 runs from the fourth over that included three sixes and two fours, giving a glimpse of what was to come.

At the other end Phil Salt hit a few before he was dropped by David Warner, but the Englishman couldn’t make use of the reprieve, getting out in the very next ball to bring Raghuvanshi to the middle.

The 18-year-old hit his very first ball of the IPL for a boundary and that was followed by another four.

KKR continued to hit boundaries aplenty, amassing 88 runs in the powerplay as DC bowlers struggled to find ways to stop them.

DC seemed to make inroads by dismissing Narine and Raghuvanshi in consecutive overs but Russell had other plans.

The DC bowlers were guilty of feeding the all-rounder with full tosses which he dispatched to the boundary with ease.
