"Jai Shri Ram": Sanjay Nirupam Drops Broad Hint Of Future Plans

'Jai Shri Ram': Sanjay Nirupam Drops Broad Hint Of Future Plans

Sanjay Nirupam was expelled over his comments on Congress ally Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena UBT.

Mumbai:

Expelled Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, who criticized Nehruvian secularism earlier today, has now dropped a broad hint of his future plans with a resounding “Jai Shri Ram”. Asked what next, the 59-year-old told reporters, “I have plans, certainly I am joining somewhere. Will declare. You can derive meaning out of Jai Shri Ram”.

Mr Nirupam was expelled yesterday over his out-of-turn comments on Congress ally Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena UBT after it announced candidates for 17 seats. Among those was Mumbai North West, a seat Mr Nirupam was eyeing.

The senior leader had won the Mumbai north seat in 2009, but lost the subsequent elections in 2014 and 2019 from Mumbai North and Mumbai North West. Today, he made it clear that he would contest, from the other side if need be.

The Mumbai North West seat is part of the kitty of Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The party is yet to announce its candidate.

The Uddhav Thackeray faction has fielded Amot Kirtikar from the seat. Mr Nirupam told reporters, “I will not allow him to become an MP. I will contest and defeat him”.

The former MP, who was penalized by the Congress for ‘indiscipline” and “anti-party statements”, was defiant.  While of a criticism spree, had said, ” Secularism doesn’t mean disregarding one’s own religion…  The Nehruvian secularism which has no place for religion in the society, has expired”.

There were other barbs directed at the Congress and its allies.
The Congress is now history and has no future and that the Maha Vikas Aghadi is a merger of three “sick units”, he said.  There are five power centres in the Congress, he said: The three Gandhi family members, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and (party general secretary) K C Venugopal, Mr Nirupam had added.

“There is a huge communication gap in Congress, there are many lobbies,” he told reporters.

“I was not being heard by the leadership. The way the Maharashtra alliance was handled was wrong. Giving seats to Sena was a disastrous move, including my seat. They surrendered before the Sena and gave the seat to a scamster under the radar of the Enforcement Directorate,” he added.

Arms supplier held with 8 pistols, 80 bullets in Delhi

New Delhi: Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Delhi Police arrested an arms supplier and recovered eight semi-automatic pistols and 80 bullets from his possession, which were to be delivered to criminals in the city and its peripheries, an official said on Thursday.

The accused is identified as Adnan (23), a resident of Jafrabad, who had procured the weapons from Khurja Junction near Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

“On April 2, a tip-off was received about a criminal, who may supply illegal firearms in the area of northeast district. The information was further developed and the team laid down a trap in the Welcome area,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey.

Adnan was nabbed and during his cursory search, eight semi-automatic pistols and 80 live cartridges were recovered.

On interrogation, Adnan revealed that he purchased firearms from his sources at Khurja Junction, to supply to the active budding criminals of Delhi and NCR.

“Adnan is being interrogated about the whole nexus of the illegal firearms supply. On verification, he was found to be a habitual criminal, previously involved in two cases of Arms Act and robbery,” said the DCP.

Adnan also disclosed that he got in touch with other criminals while he was in jail for robbery and got influenced by their luxurious lifestyle. Therefore, he also wanted to earn a name in the crime world and become famous in order to earn easy money to fulfil his expenses and desires.

“He had met Hashim Baba in jail and continued to stay in touch with him after coming out on bail last year,” the DCP said.

Complex heart surgery on 25-year-old woman at KIMS Kondapur

Hyderabad: Heart surgeons at KIMS Hospitals, Kondapur, on Thursday announced successful completion of a redo surgery for valve replacement on a 25-year-old young mother from Hyderabad. The surgery involving replacement of three out of four heart valves, was conducted by Dr. Nisarga, Chief CT Surgeon, KIMS Hospitals.

The patient who underwent a mitral valve replacement surgery when she was 16-years-old, in recent months, had been experiencing severe dyspnea (short of breath). Tests revealed leakage in the mitral, tricuspid, and aortic valves, posing a serious threat to her health.

The woman underwent a high-risk redo surgery, which involved replacement of the mitral, tricuspid, and aortic valves with mechanical valves, along with addressing severe pulmonary hypertension, lasting for nine hours, said Dr Nisarga said adding, “It was emotionally challenging, given the fact the patient was a young mother with a child waiting for her at home.”

Iran calls for full support for Palestinians on Quds Day

In a statement released on the eve of International Quds Day, Iran’s Foreign Ministry “vehemently condemned the Zionist regime’s blatant violation of international law and regulations, human rights, and international humanitarian law” in the war-torn Gaza Strip since October 7.

“The Government and the noble people of the Islamic Republic of Iran once again remind the international community and world governments, especially of Muslim countries, of their responsibility to provide all-out support for the oppressed Palestinian people, particularly the besieged inhabitants and war-stricken people of the Gaza Strip,” it added, according to Press TV.

International Quds Day was designated by Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic. It is marked annually across the world on the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. This year, the event falls on April 5.

The ministry further called for “effective, decisive, and immediate action by governments and international legal and human rights institutions to stop these crimes and to lodge a criminal case for prosecuting and trying the commanders, perpetrators, and supporters of such human tragedies.”

International Quds Day in the current year comes amid the ongoing brutal war against inhabitants of the Gaza Strip. Since October 7 last year, Israel has killed more than 32,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 75,500 others in Gaza since October 7.

According to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, the Israeli military has so far killed more than 14,400 children in Gaza, meaning children make up more than one-third of the people Israel has killed in the territory.

“Hundreds of millions of justice-seeking and conscientious people” across the globe, and even in the Western cities, “will raise louder than ever before the cry of innocence and courage and anti-oppressiveness of the heroic Palestinian nation and the truth and reality of what is transpiring in the Palestinian territory on this year’s International Quds Day as they demand the liberation of Palestine from the yoke of oppression, tyranny, occupation, and genocide, not only as the ‘first issue’ of the World of Islam, but as the issue of the world of humanity and the most flagrant example of gross violation of human rights and international laws and regulations,” the statement further said.

Israel has cut off fuel, electricity, food and water to the Palestinians living in the coastal territory. It is also deliberately starving the people in Gaza by destroying food supplies and severely restricting the flow of food, medicines and other humanitarian goods.

Last year, tens of thousands of Iranians took part in the annual International Quds Day rallies in the capital, Tehran, in a major show of support for Palestine. Similar marches and events happened in more than 900 cities and villages nationwide, according to officials.

On the eve of this International Quds Day, Iran’s foreign ministry “emphasizes the continuation of the principled and constant policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting the liberation struggles and legitimate resistance of the Palestinian nation and the necessity of effective, comprehensive, and deterrent counteraction against the crimes of the occupying and child-killing Zionist regime.”

It also “calls on all Muslim governments and nations and the freedom- and truth-seekers of the world to stand in unity and solidarity so as to confront this ‘cancerous tumor’ and disruptor of regional and international stability and security and to provide real and practical aid and support to the oppressed Palestinian people.”

In conclusion, the ministry called on the international and human rights organizations and institutions to keep in mind their legal duties in supporting the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people “in ending the occupation, stopping the brutal crimes of the Zionists in the Holy al-Quds and other occupied regions in Palestine, and in putting an end to the aggressive and escalating actions of the Zionists in the region.”

Crushing Loss In UK Polls Predicted For Rishi Sunak-Led Conservative Party

Crushing Loss In UK Polls Predicted For Rishi Sunak-Led Conservative Party

A recent public survey conducted by YouGov indicates a landslide victory for the Labour Party.

London:

After holding power in the UK Parliament for nearly 15 years, the Rishi Sunak-led Conservative Party expects a massive defeat against the Labour Party in the upcoming elections. It reflects the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the UK’s worsening condition – repeated policy failures, unfulfilled promises, and rising cost of living. As the country battles recession, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak risks losing his seat.

A recent public survey conducted by YouGov, interviewing 18,761 British adults between March 7-27, indicates a landslide victory for the Labour Party. To win a majority in the UK Parliament, parties have to secure 326 out of 650 seats. Labour is projected to secure 403 seats nationwide. In contrast, Conservatives are only predicted to win 155 seats. This puts them at 169 seats lower than the previous YouGov MRP released in January 2024. YouGov claims, “The coming tidal wave projected by this model would sweep away several major Conservative figures.”

Poll of Polls in Politico highlights similar trends, with 44% of people intending to vote for Labour while Conservatives tail behind at 23%, as of March 31.

Mr Sunak’s campaign outlines the Conservative Party’s goals – to halve inflation, reduce national debt, improve the National Health Service (NHS), stop illegal migrants, and better the economy. Various measures like hikes in immigration costs and stricter refugee deportation laws have been tried, but have proven unsuccessful. He also announced tax cuts in March.

Despite this, Conservatives are expecting defeat in the local council and mayoral polls to be held on May 2. Rising disapproval of his leadership among party MPs may lead to Mr Sunak facing a confidence vote soon, with 53 MP signatures needed to oust him on grounds of no-confidence. Mr Sunak is an unelected Prime Minister, assuming the role after ex-PM Liz Truss’ 6-week tenure ended in her resignation. This adds to the sharp decline in his popularity and lack of trust in his capabilities as Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Leader of Labour Party Keir Starmer has pledged that the opposition plans to lower national strain by increasing spending on sectors like housing, transport, and infrastructure, to reduce inflation and stabilise the economy. This stands as an implicit critique of the Conservatives who have failed to tackle these issues.

The Labour Party has also called on Mr Sunak to set a date for the UK General Elections, which remains undecided. On March 15, Labour activists staged a demonstration at Westminster, dressed as chickens and holding signs reading “Rishi, name the date now!”, to mock the Prime Minister for his failure to do so yet. The Fixed-term Parliaments Act in 2022 restored British prime ministers’ ability to set election dates. However, General Elections have to be held every 5 years, so Mr Sunak has to set a date by January 2025.

As public disillusionment with the government culminates and polls indicate a decisive loss for the Conservatives, it is highly unlikely that Mr Sunak will retain his seat as the Prime Minister for another term.

Opinion: Rishi Sunak: Up The Creek Without A Paddle

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

It doesn’t happen very often, but now and again the political tide turns so decisively against an incumbent government that there’s little the ruling party can do beyond damage limitation.

Think back a decade ago. After ten years of Congress rule, the public mood had turned decisively against the party. Manmohan Singh was seen as a good man leading a bad government – personally admirable but politically inept and paralysed by the competing forces within his own party. Narendra Modi was the coming man, offering an energy and vision that the governing party simply couldn’t match. The result: Congress was swept from power and lost more than three-quarters of its seats in the Lok Sabha.

Going Down The Congress Way?

Something similar is now happening in British politics. Rishi Sunak is on the brink of a catastrophic election defeat. The Conservatives have been in power for fourteen years, but fresh opinion polls suggest they will be humbled in the coming election, losing up to two-thirds of their seats in the UK Parliament.

Rishi Sunak continues to put a brave face on his appalling polling, but his party has just about given up. Conservatives know they are about to be evicted from power, and many of their MPs are either scouting for new jobs or feuding viciously about who should lead the party after Sunak’s almost inevitable departure.

In Britain’s peculiar, and distinctly dilapidated, political system, the prime minister has a lot of discretion about when a general election is held. The last possible date is in January next year; the expectation is that the election will be in October or November this year. So, a note of caution – a lot can happen in that time: wars, scandals, crises and all kinds of unexpected events. Nothing is certain in politics. But if you look at the odds that betting companies are offering on the election outcome – often a very reliable indicator, as they lose a lot of money if they get it wrong – they are putting the odds on the Labour opposition becoming the largest party in Parliament at more than 90%.

What Really Went Wrong For Sunak

So what has gone wrong for Rishi Sunak in the eighteen months since he became prime minister? He had a lot going for him. He’s seen as young, earnest and honest; in his time in office, inflation has fallen sharply and real wages have begun to grow; after the chaos of Boris Johnson’s years in power, he has restored a measure of stability and competence.

But Sunak does not offer a political vision; he is indecisive, he presides over a deeply divided party, he has made a few appallingly bad decisions, and, above all, his political instincts are poor. When a prime minister makes public pledges and fails to deliver them, that really damages his standing. Rishi Sunak promised to cut the huge waiting lists for treatment in the publicly-funded health service; those waiting lists have continued to lengthen. He pledged to ‘stop the boats’ that surreptitiously carry illegal immigrants across the Channel to England’s south coast; those deeply hazardous sea crossings are still happening.

Sunak has tried to appease the populist right-wing of the Conservative Party by backing out of some key targets to tackle climate change and abandoning an expensive high-speed rail link from London to the north of England. Those decisions were not popular with the voters and didn’t satisfy Sunak’s critics within the party. In political terms, it’s a lose-lose.

A Resurgent Opposition And A Threat From The Right

His biggest problem is that the opposition has been reborn. The Labour Party, which spent several years heading so far left that it barely appeared on the political spectrum, has been refashioned as a pragmatic, centre-left party with a conspicuously competent and cautious leader, Keir Starmer. The Labour Party is once again seen as fit to govern.

To double Sunak’s difficulties, he also faces a threat from the right. The Reform Party, which was born out of the successful campaign to pull Britain out of the European Union, is now demanding much tighter restrictions on immigration and an emphasis on English nationalism. Its slogan of ‘Let’s Make Britain Great’ bears an uncomfortable echo of Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’. As many as one in four Conservative voters seem tempted to transfer their allegiance to Reform – sufficient to sink an already listing ship.

If the Conservatives lose anything like as badly as the opinion polls suggest, Sunak is almost certain to resign as party leader. There’s speculation that he might leave politics altogether. And then the Conservative Party will have to embark on the long haul of reinventing itself and rebuilding its political profile and policies. How long could that take? Well, ask a Congress wallah.

Iran consulate attack last nail in coffin of dying and decaying Israeli regime

By Wesam Bahrani

The foolhardy move to carry out a dastardly act of terrorism in the Syrian capital – bombing the Iranian embassy’s consular affairs building – is the latest example of how the Israeli regime flouts international law.

It is also a reminder that the regime is bound to perish, like all illegitimate entities are. They come with an expiry date and the West-backed Zionist entity’s time has come.

The cowardly attack on the Iranian embassy’s consular affairs section in Damascus in blatant violation of all international conventions smacks of utter frustration and a realization that the illegitimate entity’s days are numbered.

It is the case of a dying and decaying regime resorting to desperate acts following its crushing defeat to the Axis of Resistance both in Gaza and across the region.

The occupying regime should have surrendered a long time ago, but the inflated ego of Benjamin Netanyahu, the embattled Israeli premier, got the better of him. But why target an Iranian diplomatic mission?

International law is not something the apartheid regime is familiar with. Illegitimate entities cannot be expected to comply with international legal conventions. And it has been well-documented in the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7.

It’s been almost six months since the Israeli regime launched a genocidal war against 2.3 million Palestinians in the coastal Palestinian territory, and the numbers speak for themselves.

Despite the unprecedented toll of death, destruction and deliberate starvation in the world’s largest concentration camp, the Palestinian resistance has not been subdued and the people of Palestine have also refused to retreat or surrender.

The steadily growing worldwide support for the Palestinian cause has also never been higher and brighter, with even Israeli occupation cheerleaders in the West loathing and cursing the regime for its war crimes.

One recent poll by the Ramallah-based and German-funded Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) revealed that Hamas maintains strong popularity in Gaza, the resistance group that Israel wants to eliminate.

The figure is higher than the approval rating during polls conducted before Operation Al-Aqsa Storm (Al-Aqsa Flood) on October 7 and comes despite the Israeli regime expanding its genocidal war crimes against civilians in the blockaded territory.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the Al-Quds Brigades, and other Gaza-based armed resistance factions affiliated with the resistance movement have in recent months turned the tiny territory into Vietnam for the Israeli occupation forces with their daily resistance operations.

Making matters worse for Netanyahu and his fascist regime, the Gaza resistance has turned the Israeli settler population against its own extremist leaders with millions pouring out into the streets of Tel Aviv every day to call for Netanyahu’s ouster.

Settlers are unleashing their anger and frustration against Netanyahu and his far-right Zionist regime for failing to achieve any of its stated objectives in Gaza, including the release of captives held by the resistance in the coastal territory.

In the Israeli-occupied Palestinian lands, the regime’s Hebrew Maariv newspaper – the go-to outlet for the Israeli settler thought process that conducts surveys regularly for the settler population — documented some grim statistics.

In its first survey after the genocidal Israeli war against Gaza, on October 8, a massive 95 percent of Israeli settlers supported a war on the Gaza Strip. Not only against Hama but against all Palestinians there.

It explains why Netanyahu struck a confident tone after launching the unbridled aggression as his approval rating had plummeted for most of 2023. It was time to regain the goodwill of settlers by killing Palestinian women and children.

By the end of December, Maariv put that number of support for the US-Israeli genocide at 74 percent and it now stands at 57 percent. The projection strongly suggests a falling trend, with Netanyahu drowning along with it.

This is how Netanyahu and the wider Israeli mafia backed by Washington DC became desperate. They can’t afford to lose power, enter yet another election, and return to the reports of civil war erupting among Israeli settlers that surfaced in 2023.

The ouster of Netanyahu, a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal are essentially the demands of the settler population today, who are back on the streets in massive numbers.

Over the past six months, the captives in Gaza haven’t been freed militarily, Hamas is far from being “eliminated” according to US intelligence, and the number of Israeli military casualties is surging by the day.

There are more than 100,000 Palestinians killed and injured, and thousands of others are missing, presumably dead under the rubble, the majority of whom are women and children. Children have been executed in cold blood and women have been raped and killed, as per human rights groups.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced due to the regime’s policy of bombings and siege, using starvation as a weapon of war against Palestinian civilians.

Still, the occupying regime and its Western backers have failed to break the will and resilience of Palestinians in Gaza. They stand firm and resolute, not ready to let the oppressor win.

Israeli is isolated on the world stage having violated an International Court of Justice ruling on genocide and yet another UN Security Council resolution. On the other hand, the blood of Palestinian children has formed a global coalition voicing its disgust at the usurping regime.

In the Western world, especially the US and the UK, public outcry forced the UN Security Council resolution to pass with American and British leaders having one eye on their proxy regime and another on the ballot boxes back home as their own future in office is now under risk because of complicity in the Gaza genocide.

The bravery of South Africa to take the occupying regime to the ICJ, backed now by Ireland and other countries, is a testament to the bravery of Gazans in exposing the child-murdering regime and its illegal occupation and apartheid.

The positions and measures taken by Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile for instance, or for that matter, the statements given by the Spanish foreign minister, or a senior official in the Biden administration stepping down over Gaza speak volumes.

It Is yet another reflection of the ability to withstand extreme hardships of children, women, men, and elderly in Gaza against the occupation that has resulted in global support for the Palestinian cause, putting Palestine back on the minds and the map of the international community.

This global backing for Gaza, which has significantly swelled now, started decades ago with unwavering and unconditional support from the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was Iran that gave voice to voiceless Palestinians and helped the Palestinian resistance become self-reliant.

It would be safe to suggest that the Al-Aqsa Storm wouldn’t have been possible had Iran not been in the picture all these years. This was even acknowledged by Islamic Jihad leader Ziad al-Nakhaleh during his visit to Tehran last week.

Having failed to achieve anything in the Gaza Strip and with mounting pressure both domestically and globally, the Israeli apartheid regime has taken its anger out on the number one supporter of the Palestinian cause – Iran.

The terrorist attack against the Iranian consulate in Damascus with half a dozen missile strikes that assassinated a senior Iranian military advisor, his deputy, and other Iranian military personnel at the diplomatic mission is another clear act of desperation by the Israeli regime.

It is hard to imagine the dying and decaying regime making such a foolhardy move without a green light from its US sponsors and the Israeli lobby.

What both parties fail to apprehend is that this act of terrorism will only make Iran’s support for the Palestinian struggle firmer.

Many martyrs have left the door open for others to liberate Palestine from its brutal occupation. The countdown for the liberation of Palestine and the annihilation of the Israeli regime has begun.

Monday’s attack was the last nail in the coffin of the dying and decaying regime regime.

Watch: Hyderabad vlogger slapped with whopping Rs 1 cr bill for short Uber ride in Bengaluru

Hyderabad: In a bewildering incident, a Hyderabad-based vlogger has been slapped with a staggering fare of over Rs 1 crore for a mere 10 km Uber auto ride in Bengaluru, leaving both him and the driver dumbfounded.

The customer, Sriraj Nilesh, shared his experience in an Instagram video, expressing disbelief at the exorbitant fare. He and his wife had booked an autorickshaw through the Uber app for a relatively short distance from Tin Factory, KR Puram, to Koramangala. “Initially quoted Rs 207, we were shocked to see a bill of Rs 1,03,11,055 upon reaching our destination,” Nilesh said. “What kind of technical glitch is this? Even the customer care did not respond. That’s why I am putting this video as proof,” he added, expressing his frustration.

This incident comes after a similar ordeal faced by Noida’s Deepak Tenguriya, who was slapped with a jaw-dropping bill of Rs 7.66 crore for what was supposed to be a routine auto ride costing Rs 62. The video of the incident was shared by Tenguriya’s friend, Ashish Mishra, on social media platform X, capturing his disbelief at the charges.

In response to the uproar, Uber India’s Customer Support issued an apology and assured customers that they were actively investigating the matter to rectify the situation.
