Anupam Mittal Reveals He Purchased Shaadi.com Domain For Rs 20 Lakh

'Used All Our Money': Anupam Mittal Reveals He Purchased Shaadi.com Domain For Rs 20 Lakh

Mr Mittal revealed that they had ‘Sagaai.com’ before ‘Shaadi.com’.

Shaadi.com founder and CEO Anupam Mittal recently revealed that he paid about $25,000 (approximately Rs 20 lakh) when he bought the company’s domain in the late 1990s. In the podcast ‘Finance with Sharan’, Mr Mittal shared that at the time, the company had $30,000 in its account but he decided to spend big on the domain as he believed it would fetch them results in the long run. He also revealed that they had ‘Sagaai.com’ before ‘Shaadi.com’.

“We had a company, where we provided IT solutions to other companies. So there we started Sagaai.com, which was the precursor to Shaadi.com,” Mr Mittal said in the podcast. “We had saved about $30,000 in our company. We were getting Shaadi, com domain for about $25,000. $25,000 or $30,000 seemed exorbitant but I believed that without a domain that can become ubiquitous, that can become known for the category, it’ll be tough and this will make our lives easier. So we used all our money,” he added.

In the podcast, the Shark Tank India judge was also asked about investment in dating apps and if he missed the boat on creating a dating app. To this, Mr Mittal said that there’s no money to be made in the dating app industry in India. He added that platforms like Tinder and Bumble are not making much progress.

“Their revenues are not that big and the problem is in India, it’s very lopsided. Women always have too much to choose from so therefore you’ll see very few guys get all the demand and all the other guys who come on these sites don’t know what to say. They say the most obnoxious things and the women run away. So think there’s no there’s not real money to be made,” he said.

Mr Mittal revealed that contrary to the popular perception that the younger generation is more inclined towards dating apps, Shaadi.com’s audience is mostly millennials. “This whole thing about millennials not using matchmaking sites is not quite correct, most of our audience is millennials,” he said.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Mr Mittal recalled starting as an entrepreneur and going from living in a small Mumbai apartment with 20 people to becoming a multimillionaire in his 20s. Mr Mittal clarified that his father had a successful business in textile but there was a time when they were not well-off.

After struggling for a few years, Mr Mittal’s father became successful, following which he moved to the US for studies. However, he said he couldn’t find a job there and decided not to share it with his parents as they would insist he return. Mr Mittal became a multi-millionaire in his early 20s.

Man Extradited From Pak Convicted Of Killing Female UK Police Officer

Piran Ditta Khan was arrested in Pakistan in January 2020 and was extradited to the UK last April

London:

A 75-year-old man who was extradited from Pakistan was on Thursday convicted of the murder of a UK police officer nearly 20 years ago.

Piran Ditta Khan fled Britain after the shooting of police constable Sharon Beshenivsky who was killed as she tried to foil a robbery at a travel agency in November 2005.

The rare fatal shooting of a police officer on duty in Britain triggered widespread shock and revived calls for police to routinely carry guns.

Khan is the last of the seven men involved in the raid in Bradford in northern England to be convicted.

Prosecutors said the former takeaway boss was the group’s ringleader.

Although he did not leave the safety of a lookout car during the raid he played a “pivotal” role in planning it and knew that loaded firearms were to be used.

This made him guilty of Beshenivsky’s murder “as surely as if he had pulled the trigger on that pistol himself”, prosecutors said.

Khan was convicted by a majority of 10-1 jurors at Leeds Crown Court in northern England.

Beshenivsky, who was 38 and had three children and two step children, was gunned down on her youngest daughter’s fourth birthday. She had been a police officer for just nine months.

Her female colleague Teresa Milburn was shot in the chest in the incident but survived. Neither officer was armed.

Police superintendent Marc Bowes welcomed the verdict as the “culmination of 18 years of hard work, tenacious grit and determination to bring Khan before the courts”.

“Today as always our thoughts remain with PC Sharon Beshenivsky and her family, Sharon went to work to protect the public, she responded to a call for help alongside her colleague Teresa but tragically never came home,” he added.

Khan, who was arrested in Pakistan in January 2020, was extradited to the UK last April.

The other six gang members have previously been jailed in connection with the shooting, including a Somali national who was sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in jail.

Congress Medak candidate Neelam Madhu faces embarrassing moment

Hyderabad: Congress party Medak Lok Sabha constituency candidate Neelam Madhu faced embarrassing moments when a Congress leader’s wife vented her ire against him over his past comments.

All this happened in the presence of Forest Minister Konda Surekha.

The Minister had visited Patancheru Assembly constituency Congress candidate Kata Srinivas Goud’s residence on Wednesday.

Srinivas Goud and his wife Sudha Rani welcomed the Minister into their house and Medak candidate Neelam Madhu accompanied her.

After felicitating the Minister, Sudha Rani vented her ire against Neelam Madhu over his comments on Kata Srinivas Goud during the recent Assembly elections campaign.

It may be recalled that Kata Srinivas Goud was contesting the Patancheru assembly constituency elections representing the Congress and Neelam Madhu entered the fray as BSP candidate after being denied ticket by the Congress.

“In fact, I wanted to slap him hard for his comments,” said Sudha Rani to the Minister while Neelam Madhu stood calm next to the Minister.

Soon after he switched loyalties to the Congress, the party leadership offered him a ticket to contest from the Medak Lok Sabha constituency.

The videos of Sudha Rani bursting out in anger before the Minister have gone viral on social media platforms.

Have Urged Israel To Ensure Safety Of Indian Workers There: Centre

The External Affairs Ministry said the workers have gone to Israel as part of a mobility agreement.

New Delhi:

India on Thursday said it has urged Israel to ensure the safety of the Indian construction workers who have gone to the country this week under the framework of a bilateral mobility agreement.

Israeli Ambassador to India Naor Gilon had said on Tuesday that the first batch of over 60 Indian construction workers has left for Israel.

“As you are aware, these (first batch) workers have gone to Israel as part of a mobility agreement that we have signed with the country,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at his weekly media briefing.

“This agreement predates the conflict. We are conscious of their safety. We have urged the Israeli authorities to ensure their safety and well-being,” he said.

Mr Jaiswal said around 18,000 Indian caregivers are currently employed in Israel and the Indian embassy in that country is in touch with them.

Following the Israel-Hamas conflict, there were media reports that said the Israeli construction industry is looking at recruiting 100,000 Indian workers to replace the 90,000 Palestinians.

Last month, India said it is focusing on ensuring the safety and security of all its citizens in Israel in the wake of the death of an Indian in that country in a missile attack reportedly launched by Hezbollah.

CAA A "Trap" Or Is It "Rumour And Lies"? Mamata Banerjee Vs PM In Bengal

Kolkata:

Cooch Behar, the crucial north Bengal district, became subject to strong opposing political views today as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held rallies within 30 km of each other. While Ms Banerjee labelled the BJP worse than a snake — “You can trust a snake and even tame it, but not the BJP” — the Prime Minister addressed what has come to be the burning political issue in the state, the Citizenship Amendment Act. But his defence was crouched in an attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress — the CAA is being tarred to remove attention from corruption, he said, without naming Ms Banerjee or her party.

“They (INDIA bloc) never cared for the marginalised communities. Now that we have brought CAA, they are spreading rumours and lies. It is Modi ki guarantee to provide citizenship to those who have faith in Maa Bharati,” he said this evening, addressing a rally at the Rash Mela grounds in Cooch Behar.

“I am saying remove corruption; the opposition is saying ‘save the corrupt.’ I will ensure the corrupt are punished, and the poor get justice. In the next five years, more stringent action will be taken against the corrupt,” he added.

There was also a reference to Sandeshkhali, which has emerged as the hot button issue in this election.  While Trinamool was trying to save the culprits of Sandeshkhali, “the BJP’s focus is empowering the women. The culprits of Sandeshkhali will spend their lives in jail,” PM Modi said.

The CAA issue was addressed by the Chief Minister, who was in Cooch Behar around noon.

As soon as one registers under the Citizenship Amendment Act, one will be deemed to be from Bangladesh and they will lose all basic rights, she told her audience.

“As soon as you submit your name for registration, you will be declared a Bangladeshi. This means you will not get the benefits under Lakhishree, Kanyashee, you will not be able to vote, you will not have citizenship rights, government rights. Think yourself whether it is good or bad,” Ms Banerjee said.

“The CAA is a trap to turn legal citizens into foreigners. Once you (BJP) implement CAA, NRC will follow… Remember CAA is the head of the fish, the tail is the NRC,” Ms Banerjee said, citing the snake analogy to claim the BJp is not to be trusted..

“We would allow neither CAA nor NRC in West Bengal. If you apply, you will be designated as foreigners,” she added.

The BJP is hoping to win 25 of the state’s 42 Lok Sabha seats in the coming election, a chunk of which is expected to come from north Bengal where the BJP has consolidated its base over the last decade.

The BJP has re-nominated the sitting MP, junior home minister Nisith Pramanik, from Cooch Behar.  The Trinamool has fielded the sitting MLA of Sitai, Rajbanshi community member Jagadish Barma Basunia.

Ms Banerjee claimed today that the minister is a Trinamool reject. “It is a matter of national shame that a person against whom there are several cases has been appointed as the minister of state for home affairs. He was sacked from our party. Now, he is the asset of the BJP,” she said.

Mr Pramanik, a former leader of the Trinamool’s youth wing, was expelled from the party in 2018, after which he joined the BJP.

Elect BRS LS candidates for Telangana welfare: Nama Nageswara Rao

Elect BRS LS candidates for Telangana welfare: Nama Nageswara Rao

Kothagudem: BRS Khammam Lok Sabha candidate Nama Nageswara Rao said that only the victory of the BRS party candidates in parliament elections would benefit the people of Telangana state.

He addressed party workers at preparatory meetings for the parliamentary elections held at Aswaraopet and at Kothagudem in the district on Thursday.

He asked the party leaders and cadres to make collective efforts for the BRS victory in Lok Sabha polls. Only the BRS MPs fought for the rights of the people of Telangana in the parliament while the MPs who won from BJP and Congress in the State never spoke in Parliament for the funds and projects that were due to Telangana, Nageswara Rao said.

Congress party cheated people by not implementing the six guarantees after winning the Assembly elections.

Most of the areas in the erstwhile Khammam district, paddy and maize crops have dried up due to lack of irrigation water and farmers suffered huge losses and there was no water even for drinking in some parts of the Telangana State, he complained.

Crops in about 15 lakh acres were damaged. Within the hundred days of the Congress rule, all sections including the farmers were facing difficulties. People were happy during the BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s 10-year rule and Telangana was at the forefront of development.

The welfare schemes implemented during the BRS regime in Telangana were unmatched in any other State in India. The BRS government schemes have reached every doorstep and the Centre acknowledged the fact that only Telangana provided drinking water to every house.

Chandrashekhar Rao was the only leader who stood by the farmers and gave them what they wanted. The party cadres have to go door to door explaining the development works and welfare schemes implemented during the BRS’s rule and also explain to the public how the Congress party duped them, Nageswara Rao suggested.

Poland slams ‘outrageous’ remarks by Israeli envoy after aid workers killed

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has strongly denounced “outrageous” remarks by the Israeli ambassador to Warsaw over the killing of a Polish aid worker in an Israeli strike in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Ambassador Yacov Livne gave an interview late on Wednesday in which he stopped short of apologizing for the deadly strike after he had been repeatedly asked to do so.

President Duda on Thursday said Livne’s remarks were “not very fortunate, in short, outrageous.”

The Polish president also called for Israel to provide compensation to the victim’s family “for the sake of decency, for the sake of principles.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also said, “If the ambassador decides to make public appearances in our media, he should use this opportunity to offer a simple, human apology.”

The Israeli airstrike on April 1 killed seven staffers of the US-based food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK), including Damian Sobol, the 35-year-old Polish citizen.

Polish officials have warned the strike was likely to increase anti-Israeli sentiments in Poland.

Israel is under fire worldwide for deliberately targeting charity staff bringing food to Gaza.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has joined the United Nations and world countries in demanding “full transparency and accountability” over the attack.

Albanese toughened his language over the killing of the Australian citizen Lalzawmi Frankcom. “This is against humanitarian law.”

Israeli military likely knew identities of aid workers: Humanitarian groups

Humanitarian organizations say the Israeli military likely had advance notice of the names and nationalities of each of the aid workers killed by Israeli airstrikes.

The communications director for the United Nations aid agency UNRWA, Juliette Touma, shed light on the “intense” coordination that routinely occurred with Israeli authorities prior to aid deliveries.

“Only when they give us the approval do we move – and before we move we provide the Israeli authorities with quite a lot of detail,” Touma said

“We include the names and nationalities of the team that is travelling on the convoy, the content of the convoy, the number of vehicles that we are sending on that convoy, the route of that convoy including GPS coordinates with the Israeli authorities.”

The chief executive of the Australian Council for International Development, Marc Purcell, said it would be “extraordinary if the Israeli military” hadn’t known the “identities” of the workers “because they were there with the full awareness of the Israeli forces”.

The founder of the US-based charity, World Central Kitchen, earlier criticized Israel over the killing of his staff in Gaza, saying the regime’s forces systematically targeted a convoy carrying aid workers.

Andres said that cars were hit purposefully one after the other in a civilian area under the control of the Israeli army.

“Then they hit the third one and we saw the consequences of that continuous targeting attack – seven people dead, but they are seven on top of a list of more than another 190 humanitarian workers that [have] been killed over the last six months,” he said.

He held Israel responsible for the killing, which he said, was not the outcome of a bad luck situation.

He added that the Israeli forces were well informed about the convoy’s movement and that the cars were clearly marked with the charity’s logo.

Over 60-percent of non-governmental aid getting into the besieged strip is from the World Central Kitchen. The charity has suspended its operations in Gaza following the attack.

GT vs PBKS Live Score: Pitch report

“We are the centre pitch. 63m square boundaries, 70m straight hit. We are Pitch No. 6. We were here 4 times last season and in those 4 matches three of them were won by the chasing team. So I expect that to come into play tonight at the toss. This pitch has black and red soil, a mixture of both. It’s rock hard and has 3mm of grass on it so I expect to have good pace and bounce so I expect plenty of runs tonight. GT have 8 out of 12 games here,” reckons WV Raman and Simon Katich.
