2 Shooters Arrested For Firing At Salman Khan's Mumbai Home

Salman Khan’s security has been increased after the incident.

Mumbai/New Delhi:

Mumbai police has arrested two shooters who fired at actor Salman Khan’s house in the city on Sunday, officials said.

Vicky Sahab Gupta and Sagar Shrijogendra Pal – who are from Bihar – were arrested in Gujarat’s Bhuj last evening.

The two men who came on a motorbike fired four rounds outside Bandra’s Galaxy Apartments, where the actor lives, on Sunday morning at around 5 am and fled.

CCTV footage showed that both accused sported caps and carried backpacks. Additionally, the clip showed them firing towards the actor’s home.

The accused had bought a second-hand bike from Raigad district to reach Mr Khan’s residence. They travelled to Mumbai on that bike from Panvel where they had been living for the past 22 days.

Both men, according to police sources, are part of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Bishnoi is currently in Tihar Jail for his involvement in several high-profile murder cases including that of musician Sidhu Moose Wala and Rajput leader and Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

Following the gunfire incident outside Mr Khan’s residence, Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, claimed responsibility in an online post, describing it as a “preview” and issuing a warning to the Bollywood actor.

The motorbike, which was abandoned near Mount Mary Church, a little over a kilometre from the actor’s house, was registered in the name of a man living in the Panvel area of Navi Mumbai, officials said.

The man had recently sold the two-wheeler, assistant commissioner of police Panvel Ashok Rajput said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reached out to the actor, offering assurances of unwavering support and a commitment to upholding the rule of law.

Police have added more personnel to Salman Khan’s security team after the incident. The actor has also been asked to inform the Mumbai Police before moving out of his house. He has been advised to stay at home unless something important comes up.

India Has Taken Steps To Modernise Its Military, Reduce Dependence: US

India Has Taken Steps To Modernise Its Military, Reduce Dependence: US

Washington:

Observing that India has showcased itself as a global leader, the top intelligence official from the US Department of Defense has told the Congress that in 2023, India took steps to modernise its military to compete with China and reduce its dependency on Russian origin-equipment.

“During the past year, India has showcased itself as a global leader by hosting the Group of 20 economic summit and demonstrated a greater willingness to counter PRC (People’s Republic of China) activity throughout the Indo-Pacific region,” Lt Gen Jeffrey Kruse, Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency told members of the House Armed Services Committee — the subcommittee on intelligence and special operations during a Congressional hearing on defence intelligence countering China.

India, he said, has advanced partnerships in the Indo-Pacific with regional South China Sea claimants, such as the Philippines, through training and defence sales and deepened cooperation with the US, Australia, France and Japan.

“In 2023, India took steps to modernise its military to compete with China and reduce its dependency on Russian-origin equipment. India conducted sea trials for its first domestically produced aircraft carrier and also has negotiated with several Western countries on the transfer of key defense technologies,” Kruse said.

“In 2024, New Delhi probably will focus on securing its national parliamentary elections, maintaining economic growth, and building on its ‘Make in India’ initiative as part of its military modernisation effort — which is aimed at countering Beijing,” he told the lawmakers.

Bilateral relations between India and China remain tense following the 2020 Galwan clash that killed 20 Indian soldiers and at least five PLA soldiers. In October 2023, senior Indian and PLA officers failed to resolve disputes about the two remaining standoff locations in eastern Ladakh during their twentieth round of talks. Both sides maintain approximately 50,000-60,000 troops in the area and continue to improve their military infrastructure near the border, Kruse told the lawmakers.

“India has maintained its neutral stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia remains India’s most substantial defence partner and New Delhi continues to acquire weapons from Moscow, such as the S-400 surface-to-air missile system, despite New Delhi’s desire to diversify its defence acquisition partnerships,” Kruse said.

On Pakistan, Kruse told lawmakers that it has sought international support, including from the UN Security Council, to resolve its dispute with India about Kashmir. Separately, Islamabad and New Delhi have maintained an uneasy ceasefire along the shared Line of Control since February 2021.

“Pakistan has sustained its nuclear modernisation efforts despite its economic turmoil. Terrorist violence against Pakistani security forces and civilians also rose last year,” Kruse said.

In 2023, militants killed approximately 400 security forces, a nine-year high, and Pakistani security forces have conducted almost daily counterterrorism operations during the past year.

Pakistan’s contentious relationship with India continues to drive its defence policy, Kruse said. However, cross-border violence between the countries has decreased since their February 2021 recommitment to a ceasefire, he said.

“Islamabad is modernising its nuclear arsenal and improving the security of its nuclear materials and nuclear C2. In October, Pakistan successfully tested its Ababeel medium-range ballistic missile,” he said.

Video: Was Faf du Plessis Talking To Pat Cummins About Rumoured Toss Tampering In MI vs RCB Game?

IPL 2024: Faf Du Plessis discussing something about toss with Pat Cummins© Twitter

A few days after a highly entertaining IPL 2024 game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a strange claim went viral on social media. According to several social media accounts, match referee and former India pacer Javagal Srinath of changing the outcome of the toss, thus favouring the Mumbai Indians. Multiple users on social media platform X claimed that Srinath tampered with the coin by flipping the sides while picking it up.

However, the users received a reality check from another user, who shared a more clear view of the toss. The video indeed showed that Srinath didn’t flip the sides of the coin, but instead forgot the call made by the RCB captain Faf du Plessis. “A clear Video of the toss…If You Still having doubt Either go to Eye Hospital or Mental hospital,” the video caption read. However, that post has been deleted.

Now, another video is going viral, where RCB captain Faf du Plessis is seen talking about coin flipping with SRH skipper Pat Cummins ahead of the toss of their IPL 2024 match on Monday. Though no audio was there, netizens claimed that they were talking about the coin flip.

Talking about the SRH vs RCB game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium there were records galore. The most prominent among them was SRH’s total of 287/3 – which is the highest in IPL history. Travis Head slammed a ton in 39 balls – the fourth-fastest ton in IPL history – as SRH made merry.

It was an exhibition of brutal hitting meeting hapless bowling as SRH broke their own record of the highest-ever total in IPL. None of the RCB bowlers were up to the task, as SRH coasted off a batting paradise. Though RCB started the chase on a strong footing, the dismissals of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis dealt a major blow.

"Virat's SR 138, Rohit's 139": T20 WC Winner Blasts Those Targetting Kohli

Virat Kohli has been one of the few positives in an otherwise blow hot, blow cold campaign of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. The former Indian cricket team captain has already scored a ton and two half-centuries in six matches to lead the run-scoring charts. However, that hasn’t meant that Virat Kohli has gone about without getting criticised. He has a strike-rate of 141.77 and often plays the ‘anchor’ role for RCB.

Many feel that the ‘anchor’ role is no longer suited for modern-day T20. With the T20 World Cup squad to be announced soon, there is much intrigue about what Kohli’s role is exactly going to be.

Former Indian cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning side, lashed out on those singling out Kohli’s strike-rate. He then pointed out how Virat Kohli’s T20I strike-rate (138.15) is almost similar to Rohit Sharma’s (139.97) and better than Chris Gayle’s (137.50).

“Virat Kohli’s strike-rate is actually slightly better than Chris Gayle in T20Is. It’s 137 or close to 138, Hardik Pandya’s strike is 139, Rohit Sharma’s strike-rate is 139. We don’t talk about their strike-rate and we are talking about Virat. You need to make it strike-rate plus average,” Irfan Pathan, speaking exclusively on Star Sports Press Room, as a Cricket Expert and Commentator with the official TV  broadcaster of IPL 2024.

“You need to see the kind of role that particular player is playing. You can’t have same yardstick for each and every player. If a guy is batting at No. 6 or 7 and having a strike-rate of 137, will you be happy? You want better strike-rate. But if you have a guy, who has nearly 50 average plus a 137 strike-rate why would you even want to talk about whether he should be in the team or not.”

Even when, Kohli scored 113* off 72 ball with a strike-rate of 156.94, in RCB’s match against Rajasthan Royals, that the former lost, there were talks about his strike-rate.

Former Indian cricket team star batter Virender Sehwag was asked about Kohli’s knock during the mid-innings break of the match.

“I think RCB are 20 runs short. If I talk about Virat Kohli, the innings has been good. But the guys who had to accompany him, Glenn Maxwell, Cameroon Green, Dinesh Karthik did not come to bat, there was no Mahipal Lomror. Nobody was there at the end who could end. However, Virat Kohli’s strike-rate could have gone up. Because when you hit 50 off 39 balls, then the strike-rate goes up, nears 200 even. But the other batters did not do anything. All the pressure was on Kohli,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“He is in form. That’s his role that he will stay till the end. The other batters who have been picked by paying so much money, they should prove their mettle. Like Maxwell. But nobody did anything today.”

"That Line From Hardik About Dhoni Shows Lack Of Support": Adam Gilchrist

Hardik Pandya in post-match presentation ceremony© X (Twitter)

With results not going their way, Mumbai Indians continue to make headlines for the wrong reasons. Hardik Pandya‘s return to the Mumbai Indians, that too in the capacity of captain, was expected to lift the team’s morale but the result has been the opposite. Rohit Sharma‘s exit as captain left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans while Hardik continues to be booed at every ground he goes. But, after MI suffered a defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, Hardik found not just his captaincy but his bowling and batting skills being questioned.

In fact, judging Hardik’s post-match comments about his team’s loss, Australia legend Adam Gilchrist painted an intriguing picture, asserting not all is well within the Mumbai Indians unit.

“High-profile teams are a victim of their own success. There are often trades that come out of the blue, and fans feel like, ‘hand on, we are not invested in this’. They feel that they are part of this big picture and hence feel blindsided. The way this Hardik traded came out of nowhere and the transition from Rohit to Hardik…whether Rohit was happy or not or if he was considered or not. So that is where this feeling is coming,” Gilchirst said on Cricbuzz.

It was Hardik’s comment highlighting how CSK continue to benefit from Dhoni’s inputs, the MI skipper seemed to have asserted that things aren’t the same at MI.

“There’s a man behind the stumps who tells them what’s working,” Hardik had said.

Giving his insights on the statement, Gilchrist said: “That line about Dhoni is interesting. It tells that maybe he is feeling a bit of a lone wolf at the moment. Maybe it is all having a bit of an effect because he is having the feeling that he has not got support around him. But his observation of the opposition is that hang on, he (Gaikwad) has got the support there, an experienced one obviously. It tells me a bit about the mindset of Hardik at the moment and the uncertainty and hesitation in the MI dugout.”

The result sees Mumbai Indians placed 8th in the points table, with just 2 wins from 6 games, while CSK have gone up to 3rd spot.

Tesla To Lay Off 14,000 Workers Globally Citing "Duplicate Roles": Report

Tesla To Lay Off 14,000 Workers Globally Citing 'Duplicate Roles': Report

The announcement comes days after Tesla reported a drop in auto deliveries.

Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle maker Tesla is planning to lay off over 10% of its global workforce, citing duplication of roles as the reason behind the job cuts. If the decision applies companywide, it would lead to over 14,000 employees being laid off.

In an internal email, accessed by electrick.com, CEO Musk said rapid growth that has led to duplication of roles in the company and cost reduction was necessary for the “next phase of growth”.

“As we prepare the company for our next phase of growth, it is extremely important to look at every aspect of the company for cost reductions and increasing productivity. As part of this effort, we’ve done a thorough review of the organisation and made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount by more than 10% globally. There is nothing I hate more, but it must be done,” he wrote.

The announcement comes days after Tesla reported a drop in auto deliveries even though it implemented a series of price cuts on its EVs to boost demand.

The tech billionaire is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit on India some time this month and is expected to make an announcement about his plans to open a new Tesla factory here. “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India!” he had posted on his X profile.

While no date for a meeting has been set, the PM has said that he welcomes investment in India from across the globe. Earlier this month, Mr Musk had said that it would be a “natural progression” for Tesla to provide electric vehicles in India.

The visit comes a month after India announced a new electric vehicle policy which plans to cut taxes on the import of EVs by almost 85%. The policy requires EV manufacturers to invest a minimum of ₹ 4,150 crore and gives them three years to set up manufacturing facilities in India.

Rahul Gandhi Calls Wayanad "Most Beautiful Place", Wants Mother To Visit

Rahul Gandhi Calls Wayanad 'Most Beautiful Place On Earth', Wants Mother To Visit

Rahul Gandhi was in Wayanad to launch the second phase of his election campaign

Wayanad (Kerala):

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday Wayanad is the most beautiful place on earth and expressed his intention to invite his mother and senior party leader, Sonia Gandhi, to visit and stay there for a few days.

While addressing party workers during a roadshow in Sultan Bathery in the hill district earlier in the day, the Wayanad MP stated that whenever he visits the area, he feels like he is coming home.

Mr Gandhi said he will urge his mother to visit Wayanad.

“I was telling (K C) Venugopal today that whenever I come here, I feel like coming home. Now I am going to pressure my mother to stay with you for one week or ten days. I would tell her to come for one month, but she has a slight problem with humidity. But I told her that you are missing the most beautiful place on earth,” Mr Gandhi said.

The Congress leader came here today to launch the second phase of his election campaign.

He had kicked off the poll campaign in Wayanad early this month by filing his nomination papers and holding a massive roadshow.

Mr Gandhi won from Wayanad with a record margin of 4,31,770 votes during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Polling for Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 26.

The picturesque hill district of Wayanad, nestled within the Western Ghats, has garnered widespread acclaim as a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Its rich biodiversity, encompassing diverse flora and fauna, continues to captivate tourists, establishing it as a perennial favorite destination over the years.
