Iran’s unprecedented strikes against Israel ‘legitimate’

Anwar warned the Tel Aviv regime against taking further action that would “aggravate tensions” in West Asia.

“The launching of the drones by Iran is a legitimate act following the barbarous attack by the Israeli Zionist regime against the Iranian embassy in Damascus,” Anwar said, referring to Israel’s April 1 deadly strike on Iran’s consulate building in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The leader of the Muslim-majority country said Tel Aviv must avoid taking “any further retaliation that will aggravate tensions in the Middle East.”

The regime’s airstrikes on Iran’s embassy compound killed two generals of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as five of their accompanying officers.

In response, on April 13, the IRGC targeted the Israeli-occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles.

Iran has also warned Israel against taking any further actions.

Israel keeps ‘unlawful’ restrictions on Gaza aid in place: UN warns

Israel keeps in place the restrictions on a trickle of humanitarian aid entering the besieged Gaza Strip, the United Nations has warned.

“Israel continues to impose unlawful restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian assistance, and to carry out widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure,” said Ravina Shamdasani, the spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday.

The occupying regime has blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza.

On April 1, Israel faced worldwide backlash after an airstrike killed seven aid workers working for the NGO World Central Kitchen in central Gaza.

“Those delivering or trying to access humanitarian assistance must never be attacked,” Shamdasani said.

Aid agencies, international charities and the International Court of Justice have on several occasions stated that Israel is blocking humanitarian supplies from entering the besieged Palestinian territory, where hunger is most pervasive.

Shamdasani also voiced concern over increasing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, calling on Israeli forces to “immediately end their active participation in and support for settler attacks” on Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the UN Relief Works and Agency (UNRWA), which is a critical source of support for people in Gaza, said in its latest situation update that no significant change has occurred in the amount of aid entering Gaza.

It warned the amount of aid entering Gaza has remained relatively stable since the beginning of April, with an average of 181 trucks arriving in the territory on a daily basis.

According to UNRWA, such amount of aid to Gaza is far below the operational capacity of the blockaded territory’s open border crossings.

The agency also said the trickle of aid fails to meet Israel’s stated aim of facilitating the entry of 500 aid trucks every day, stressing that it has been unable to reach Gaza since January 23.

Throughout this Palestinian territory, “food insecurity” has increased by 80 percent since December, UNRWA warned.

The regime began the genocidal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has killed at least 33,700 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, since.

New Delhi:

Three men were arrested for allegedly extorting money and jewellery from the wife of a naval officer by posing as seers and threatening her with a dummy snake in Delhi’s RK Puram area, police said on Tuesday.

The accused were identified as Debu Nath (20), Vinod Kamat (45), and Rajender Sharma (50), police said.

On April 5, the accused, posing as seers, extorted money and jewellery from the wife of a Naval officer near African Avenue Road, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Rohit Meena said.

The accused first asked her to put money in a metal pot for blessings, the DCP said.

“As the complainant did this, the accused threatened her with a snake for life and took away her gold cum platinum ring which she was wearing. Following a complaint, an FIR was registered and further investigation was taken up,” the DCP said.

The police studied the modus operandi of the accused and traced them, he said.

“The team checked more than 100 CCTV cameras on entry and exit routes. After continuous checking of CCTV cameras, the team obtained the registration number of the auto-rickshaw, which was found registered in the name of Sunita Devi. On questioning, she said that she had given it to one of the accused Kamat on a rental basis,” he said.

During the investigation, the police found that Nath and his associates would cheat people by showing dummy snakes in public places, he said.

During interrogation, Kamat told the police that a few days ago, the accused met him and hired his auto rickshaw permanently for Rs 800 from 8 am to 2 pm. He used to pick them up from Shakurpur Basti in West Delhi and drop them at different locations where they committed the crimes, Meena said.

“He also used to help them to escape from place of occurrence. The team later arrested Debu Nath, who told police that he had sold the ring to the jeweller shop of Rajender and recovered a platinum ring,” Meena said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Zionists will come to know Iran’s real response if they make a mistake: Raeisi

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi says the Zionists controlling the regime of Israel will only come to know the true scale and intensity of Iran’s military response if they decide for a new attack on Iran.

Raeisi made the remarks in a Tuesday meeting in Tehran with Vice-President of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon Sheikh Ali al-Khatib.

The remarks came amid reports suggesting that the Israeli regime may decide to retaliate a wave of Iranian drone and missile attacks that were carried out over the weekend in response to an Israeli airstrike on April 1 on the Iranian consulate in Syria’s capital.

Iranian authorities said after the Sunday operation targeting Israel that they were only a limited punishment for what the Tel Aviv regime did in Damascus.

They have warned that any escalation of the situation will be met with a much stronger and heavier response from Iran.

“In case of any mistake, the Zionists and their sponsors will come to know the meaning of Iran’s real and extensive response,” Raeisi said.

During the meeting, the Iranian president also appreciated the stances adopted by the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon in support of the resistance campaign in the region.

Khatib, for his part, said he was conveying a message of gratitude from the Lebanese people to Iran for its strong military action against the Israeli regime.

The Lebanese cleric said Iran had made Muslim nations proud by its steadfastness against pressures, sanctions and animosities over the years while he insisted that no other country in the region has ever managed to stand so firmly against a regime which he said is enjoying support from all powers of the world.
