'We See India As Important Global Power': Ukraine Minister Ahead Of Visit

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will embark on a two-day visit to India

Kyiv:

Ahead of his visit to India, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Wednesday that Kyiv views New Delhi as an “important global partner” with a “powerful international voice”.

The Ukrainian FM expressed hope that his visit will further develop India-Ukraine ties.

Addressing an online briefing ahead of the visit on Wednesday, Kuleba said, “I have already announced I would be visiting New Delhi on the invitation of my New Delhi counterpart, S Jaishankar. This would be my first visit to India and the first visit by a Ukrainian Foreign Minister to the country in seven years. The aim is to strengthen India-Ukraine relationship.”

He also highlighted the recent conversation between PM Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, trade and the upcoming Global Peace Summit.

“My visit will help put the agreements into action and further develop our ties. Ukraine sees India as an important global power with a powerful international voice. We are confident that close cooperation will benefit both our nations. During my visit, a number of talks are planned including with the Foreign Ministers, as well as a session of the Ukraine-India inter-governmental commission,” he said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will embark on a two-day visit to India during which he will discuss bilateral ties as well as cooperation on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

He will arrive in India on Thursday. He is visiting India at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

During the briefing, Kuleba further said that another important issue that will be discussed during the visit is ‘air defence’.

“The more important issue…or the most important issue, would be air defence. Russia escalated its air terror against Ukraine. It has launched 190 missiles of various types against Ukraine, 400 Shahed drones and 700 guided bombs in just one week,” the Ukrainian FM said.

He added, “These strikes targeted energy facilities including critical infrastructure and civilians resulting in significant casualties and damages as well as power outages in entire cities. Ukraine urgently requires more air defence and interceptors, particularly patriots and other systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.”

The Ukrainian FM also said that Kyiv would welcome New Delhi’s role in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“India is welcome to cooperate, engage with Ukraine on economic projects now and of course engage with India on re-construction of Ukraine,” FM Kuleba said, in response to a question.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Kuleba will have a number of engagements, including official meetings with the External Affairs Minister and Deputy NSA to discuss matters pertaining to the bilateral partnership and cooperation on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Kuleba is also expected to interact with the business community, the Ministry of External Affairs press release said.

The visit comes days after a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During their conversation on March 20, the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen India-Ukraine partnership in various spheres.

While discussing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, PM Modi reiterated India’s people-centric approach and called for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward.

He highlighted that India supports all efforts for an early and peaceful resolution of all issues between the parties. He added that India would continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution.

President Zelenskyy appreciated India’s continued humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.PM Modi also had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 20 and congratulated him on his re-election.

Pilot's Stunning Pic Showing "Turquoise Aerial Fire" Stuns Internet

Pilot Captures 'Turquoise Aerial Fire' From Plane Window, Internet Calls It 'Incredible'

The post has amassed more than 2,500 likes and several reactions.

Dutch pilot Christiaan van Heijst frequently shares photographs of the views he sees from his cockpit. This time, Mr Christiaan took to Instagram to share a stunning picture of a rare moment he captured from a Boeing 747 window while flying over the North Atlantic. In the caption of his post, he said he was a few hundred kilometres south of Iceland when he came across a “turquoise aerial fire” in the form of aurora borealis. He said the city lights of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, illuminated the horizon in a contrasting orange glow far away.

“A few hundred miles south of Iceland, somewhere over the North Atlantic ocean. A turquoise aerial fire in the form of aurora borealis while the city lights of Reykjavik illuminate the horizon in a contrasting, orange glow, far away,” Mr Christiaan wrote.

Take a look at the picture below:

In the caption of the post, the Dutch pilot also shared an entertaining story behind snapping the picture. “Artificial lights on the horizon: a beacon of civilisation and connectedness to the world after many hours of isolation: no communication in my headset except for the bare minimums in regard to procedures, nor any personal interaction from my Icelandic captain, who’s been mute ever since the landing gear went up on the other side of the planet. A character known for his absolute approach to colleagues and deliberate lack of conversational depth during flight,” he explained.

“Hours later, the lights of Reykjavik are abundantly visible and without need, heed or warning, he opens up the intercom and takes his time to start his declaration for a single-person audience: me. Staring out of his window, eyes set on the distant orange glow from his left-hand window, he solemnly proclaims a few seconds later: ‘… the centre of the universe …’, allowing some moments of quiet contemplation and thought on my side, before switching his intercom off again, as if to underline this statement and retreating back in his cone of silence,” Mr Christiaan continued.

“Stoic minimalism at its best and I can’t help but silently chuckle at this unexpected and utterly dry sense of humour,” he added.

Further, the pilot said after the pair touched down four hours later in a cargo airport in central Europe, neither shared a single word “besides his solemn proclamation of Iceland’s true worth”. “‘You’re a fun guy, looking forward to flying with you next time,’ he confided to me, before leaving me with a solid handshake and sincere smile before disappearing into the night to find his car.'” the pilot wrote.

Mr Christiaan shared the post earlier this week. Since then, it has amassed more than 2,500 likes and several reactions. “Wow! Incredible shot! Silence is golden indeed,” one person wrote. “Working a Polar flight tomorrow night. My camera is ready and I hope I see some,” wrote another.

“Love love your photos and entertaining, well written accounts that accompany them too,” expressed a third user.

Hyderabad’s Ramzan: Fruits shine bright at iftar parties amid health consciousness

Nazneem Mallick, a nutritionist, said that it was a good sign that people now prefer more fruits during Iftar. “At the same time it is important the diet you take is balanced to help maintain your health properly,” she advised.

“This year the supply of the fruits from Telangana and neighbouring States of Karnataka and Maharashtra is good. So there is no shortage, hence the prices are stable,” says Mohtesham Ali, a fruit trader at M J Market.

The wholesale fruit markets at Batasingaram, M J Market and Gudimalkapur are reporting brisk business. On average, about 70 trucks of watermelons, 50 – 60 goods carried jeeps carrying mangoes, 20 vehicle carrying grapes, apples, oranges and musk melon each are arriving daily.

At the wholesale market, the prices of water melon is Rs 14 a kilogram, grapes box containing around 10 kg at Rs 700, pomegranate – Rs 600 a box, pine apples – Rs 20 a kilogram, chikko Rs 200 a box.

Dalal Street investors become poorer by Rs 4.86 lakh cr as markets tumble

New Delhi: A sharp plunge in the stock market made investors poorer by Rs 4.86 lakh crore on Tuesday, on a day when the BSE benchmark Sensex tanked over 700 points.

The Sensex tumbled 736.37 points or 1.01 per cent to finish at 72,012.05. During the day, the benchmark fell by 815.07 points or 1.12 per cent to 71,933.35.

Amid weak leads from equities, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms fell by Rs 4,86,777.98 crore to Rs 3,73,92,545.45 crore.

Following the BoJ’s (Bank of Japan) decision to hike interest rates for the first time in 17 years, the Asian peers’ mood turned sour, which pulled the Indian markets to continue its recent pessimism, said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.

“The correction in the domestic market has also been triggered by concerns over premium valuations and the delay of rate cuts by the US Fed due to hotter-than-expected inflation, which is evident from the upward trend in the dollar index. Investors are exercising caution as they await the upcoming US Fed meeting, seeking indications on the potential timing of a reversal in the rate cycle,” he added.

From the Sensex basket, Tata Consultancy Services fell by 4.03 per cent as its promoter Tata Sons sold around 2.3 crore shares, or 0.65 per cent of equity stake, in the IT services major through block deals.

IndusInd Bank, Wipro, Nestle, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Power Grid, ITC, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors and UltraTech Cement were the other major laggards.

Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Titan and Bharti Airtel were the gainers from the 30-share BSE Sensex pack.

“Pessimism in the markets continued on the back of broad-based selling, as investors worried over expensive valuations in mid and smallcap stocks… Investors preferred to exit long positions ahead of the US FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting, which will put the spotlight back on the interest rate scenario going ahead,” Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Equities Ltd, said.

In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge declined 1.36 per cent and the smallcap index fell by 1.04 per cent.

“Investors remained on edge as key central banks globally are scheduled for a meeting. We expect the market to remain in consolidation mode as cautiousness persists with the commencement of the US Fed meeting today,” Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Retail Research at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said.

All indices ended lower. IT index dived 2.66 per cent, teck fell by 2.36 per cent, telecommunication (1.74 per cent), services (1.60 per cent) and utilities (1.57 per cent).

A total of 2,583 stocks declined while 1,234 advanced and 111 remained unchanged on the BSE. Also, 364 stocks hit their lower circuit limit, while 235 firms reached their upper circuit level.
