IPL 2024: How SRH Decimated MI By Scoring Mammoth 277/3 – Explained

Records tumbled as Sunrisers Hyderabad went on a rampage to post the highest ever IPL total of 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians before sealing a 31-run victory in a power-hitting contest that left bowlers on both sides befuddled. SRH opener Travis Head (62 off 24) and number three Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) came up with a sensational display of power-hitting that saw the latter snatching the franchise record for the fastest fifty from the Australian within minutes. Heinrich Klaasen (80 not out off 34 balls) provided the fireworks in the end to help SRH break an 11-year-old record. The previous highest total in IPL was 263 for five achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2013. It was also the highest total recorded in a T20 league.

Mumbai bowlers were left shell-shocked by SRH’s six-hitting spree but their batters came out with a purpose and made a match out of what looked like a one way traffic at the innings break.

Eventually, they ended at 246 for five in 20 overs.

A record 38 sixes were plundered in the game and it was the first time 500 runs were scored in a T20 match.

“The wicket was good but 277, no matter how good or bad you bowl, if the opposition get 277 that means they batted very well. It was tough out there for bowlers. Close to 500 runs were scored so the wicket was helping the batters,” MI skipper Hardik Pandya said after the match.

Chasing a mammoth 278, Rohit Sharma (26 off 12), in his 200th game for the franchise, played some sublime strokes and was well complemented by Ishan Kishan (34 off 13) who got some much needed runs.

Tilak Varma (64 off 34 balls) took the game deep with a high-quality knock, comprising half a dozen sixes. At 182 for three in 14 overs and seven wickets in hand, Mumbai Indians were on course for something special before succumbing to constant scoreboard pressure.

Tim David (42 not out off 22) tried his best towards the end but it was not enough.

Earlier, it was raining fours and sixes as Head and Sharma toyed with the Mumbai Indians attack after being put in to bat.

Head, who was surprisingly left out of the playing eleven for the opening game, reinforced his status as one of the most dangerous batters in the game with a whirlwind effort.

He broke David Warner’s record of the fastest fifty by a SRH batter with a 18-ball half-century before Sharma surpassed Head’s feat 20 balls later by reaching the milestone in 16 balls.

Head, who was dropped by compatriot Tim David at the start of his innings, opened his front leg and hit boundaries at will, collecting nine fours and three sixes in total.

The southpaw completed his fifty with an inside out four wide of mid-off before dispatching a bouncer from Gerald Coetzee for a six over deep midwicket, prompting opposition skipper Hardik Pandya to acknowledge the Australian’s brutal assault.

When Head departed, Sharma went hammer and tongs, mostly targeting the cow corner region for his seven sixes and three boundaries.

It was a nightmarish start to the IPL for the 17-year-old South Africa pacer Kwena Maphaka, who made the Mumbai Indians squad at the back of his exploits in the U-19 World Cup.

He leaked as many as 66 runs in his four overs. The left-arm pacer could not recover from Head’s onslaught in his second over in which he conceded 22 runs.

With the majority of the Mumbai bowlers taken to the cleaners, it was surprising that Mumbai Indians skipper Pandya waited till the 13th over to give Jasprit Bumrah his second over.

Following Sharma’s dismissal, the in-form Klaasen ensured there was no stopping to the SRH’s six hitting spree. Klaasen ended up with seven sixes with the maximum off a Bumrah bouncer standing out.

Klaasen had almost taken SRH over the line with his breathtaking knock against KKR at the Eden Gardens.

Former skipper Aiden Markram chipped in 42 off 28 balls.

Hyderabad cardiologists perform complex heart procedures

Hyderabad: Senior interventional cardiologists from Hyderabad-based Pulse Heart Superspecialty Hospital have announced successful completion of simultaneous Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement (TPVR) and Tric Valve Replacement procedures on a 59-year-old woman, diagnosed with carcinoid heart disease, a medical condition in which heart valves are affected due to cancerous tumour.

Due to the medical condition, the woman was admitted to the hospital with severe leakages in both right sided heart valves i.e. Tricuspid and Pulmonary valves. As a result, the patient’s heart size increased, liver got damaged and she developed fluid in the abdomen and feet and was very breathless.

Doctors deemed her as an extremely high-risk candidate for open-heart surgery. The team of caregivers led by senior interventional cardiologist, Dr M.S.S.Mukharjee and Dr.Movva Srinivas along with others decided to conduct simultaneous TPVR and TRIC Valve Replacements.

Explaining the procedure, Dr Mukharjee said “From the right groin, a bioprosthetic pulmonary valve is inserted at the pulmonary valve. Three-days later, a bicaval valve system for severe tricuspid leakage was implanted. Both the procedures were done in local anaesthesia with the patient being completely conscious throughout the treatment”.

The patient is stable and is walking following the treatment. Her condition is constantly being monitored by critical care specialists and cardiologists.

Japan Lander Wakes Up Again, Survives Another Freezing Two Weeks On Moon

JAXA has dubbed SLIM the “Moon Sniper” for its precision landing technology. (File)

Tokyo:

Japan’s unmanned Moon lander woke up after surviving a second frigid, two-week lunar night and transmitted new images back to Earth, the country’s space agency said Thursday.

“We received a response from SLIM last night and confirmed that SLIM had successfully completed its second overnight,” the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said in a post on the official X account for its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) probe.

“Since the sun was still high in the sky last night and the equipment was still hot, we recorded images of the usual scenery with the navigational camera, among other activities, for a short period of time,” it added.

A black-and-white photo of the rocky surface of a crater accompanied the post on X, formerly Twitter.

The SLIM lander touched down in January at a wonky angle that left its solar panels facing the wrong way.

Around three hours after the landing — which made Japan only the fifth nation to touch down on the Moon — JAXA decided to switch SLIM off with 12 percent power remaining to allow for a possible resumption later on.

As the sun’s angle shifted, the probe came back to life in late January for two days and carried out scientific observations of a crater with a high-spec camera.

But the spacecraft was not designed for the freezing, fortnight-long lunar nights, when the temperature plunges to minus 133 degrees.

So space agency scientists had cause for celebration when it was successfully revived in late February after its first lunar night.

JAXA has dubbed SLIM the “Moon Sniper” for its precision landing technology.

The aim of the mission is to examine a part of the Moon’s mantle — the usually deep inner layer beneath its crust — that is believed to be accessible.

Thursday’s news came after an uncrewed American lander called Odysseus — the first private spaceship to successfully land on the Moon — was unable to wake up, its manufacturer said on Saturday, even after its solar panels were projected to receive enough sunlight to turn on its radio.

Supreme Court denies bail to AAP leader Satyendra Jain in money laundering case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the regular bail plea of AAP leader Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case.

A bench of justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal asked Jain, who is out on interim bail, to surrender forthwith.

The top court rejected an oral request by Jain’s counsel to allow him to surrender in a week’s time.

On January 17, the top court had reserved its verdict on his regular bail plea.

The top court had granted interim bail to Jain on May 26, 2023 on medical grounds and it has been extended from time to time.

Jain has moved the apex court challenging the April 6, 2023 order of the Delhi High Court dismissing his regular bail application in the case.

The ED had arrested the AAP leader on May 30, 2022 on the charge of laundering money through four companies allegedly linked to him.

It had arrested Jain on the basis of a CBI FIR registered against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Jain, who has denied these allegations, was granted regular bail by the trial court on September 6, 2019 in the case registered by the CBI.

New Delhi:

Ila Arun, one of the original singers of the iconic song Choli Ke Peeche from the 1993 movie Khalnayak, recently shared her thoughts on the song’s remake for the film Crew, starring Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon. In an interview with India Today, Ila Arun expressed her disappointment with the lack of communication from the music company, Tips, regarding the remake. Ila Arun revealed that she was informed just five minutes before the release of the remixed version of Choli Ke Peeche and was asked for her blessings. While she gave her blessings, Ila Arun admitted feeling “dumbfounded” and unable to question the decision to remake the original song. She praised the iconic status of the song, its orchestration by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and the performances of Madhuri Dixit and Neena Gupta.

“Firstly, I would like to make it very clear that I have a very good relationship with Tips. Having said that, they called me five minutes before the launch of the song and asked my blessing. What else I could do, except give them my blessings? “

Ila Arun added, “I was dumbfounded but couldn’t ask them why have you done this? So my reaction to the song is exactly what Alka Yagnik’s reaction is. I feel Choli Ke Peeche is such an iconic song. What a fantastic orchestration by Laxmikant–Pyarelal and the world has danced to this colourful tune for years now. It’s a beautiful song written by Anand Bakshi and performed by Madhuri Dixit and Neena Gupta.”

In the same interview, Ila Arun also spoke about the importance of informing the original artists involved in a song’s creation if it is to be remade, describing it as an ethical obligation. Ila Arun expressed her disappointment with the lack of communication and compensation for the original artists, stating that while she appreciates the recognition, she feels shaken by the situation and believes that if profits are made from the remake, the original artists should be compensated.

She said, “I don’t want to create any controversy. The fact is that everyone is complimenting me that I am rocking, but am I not rocking, I am shaken up by this. Even the younger generation is calling me and telling me that my song has been recreated and Kareena Kapoor Khan is dancing to the number, but what can I do about that? I can only say I am dumbfounded. In my opinion, if you want to recreate, you should work with the original artists and keep them in the loop. And if you are making any profit, then they also should get compensation for it.”
