Delhi Court Orders Bloomberg To Remove 'Defamatory' Article Against Zee

New Delhi:

A Delhi court today ordered Bloomberg Television Production Services India Pvt. Ltd to take down a defamatory article published against Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. Zee said that the “factually incorrect article” led to a “15 per cent drop in share price” of the company.

The company, argued in front of the Delhi Sessions Court that the article published by Bloomberg was “false and factually incorrect, with a pre-meditated and malafide intention to defame the company”. The article, on February 21, mentioned details pertaining to the corporate governance and business operations of ZEE, which were inaccurate in nature and led to a 15 per cent drop in share price of the company, eroding investor wealth, it said.

Additional district judge Harjyot Singh Bhalla, in a big relief to Zee, directed Bloomberg to “take down the defamatory article from its platform within one week of receipt of the order”, further restraining the platform from posting, circulating or publishing the article on any online or offline platform till the next date of hearing.

The article by Bloomberg, incorrectly published that Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has found a $241 million accounting issue at the Company, whereas there is no such order from the mentioned regulator, Zee insisted. It said that “despite the company firmly refuting the same, the article incorrectly published financial irregularities in Zee, without the basis of any order from the regulator”.

Synthetic fingerprint fraud costs GHMC Rs 86.4 lakh

Hyderabad: The Amberpet police investigating the synthetic fingerprint cloning racket case have found that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has incurred a loss of about Rs 86.4 lakh in the last two years due to the cheating.

According to the police, the two suspects – P.Shivaiah Umesh and J.Shivaram, both contract Sanitary Field Assistants from GHMC Circle -12; have confessed that they have been cheating the corporation since two years.

“Daily 20 sanitation workers were absent for each shift, but marked as present. This caused a loss of approximately Rs 3.6 lakh per month and Rs 43.2 lakh for a year. Since both the suspects were doing this mischief for the last two years it comes around Rs 86.4 lakh for two years,” said a police official.

They have been supervising sanitation workers and recording daily attendance through biometric devices which are allotted by GHMC authorities to them.

Investigation revealed that the suspects collected 35 thumb impressions of sanitation workers out of which 21 workers are working under Shivaiah Umesh and 14 were working under Shivaram, with whom they had an understanding to share the wages.

“The device contains details of sanitation workers and their attendance gets marked through thumb impression by the said device. They illegally claimed the wages of sanitation workers who were absent by cloning their thumb impressions,” the official said.

Method of preparing cloning fingerprints:

The sanitation workers press their thumb on a layer of candle wax and cloning duplicate fingerprint by using M-Seal and Fevicol or Dendrite glue or wax, thereby making a synthetic thumb impression. The layer of Fevi Gum, containing fingerprint of the worker, was pressed against the biometric scanner to record the attendance of the absentee.

Kaleshwaram: BRS hits back at Congress campaign with facts

Kaleshwaram: BRS hits back at Congress campaign with facts

Medigadda: In a point by point rebuttal to the charges being levelled by the Congress on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Friday reached Ground Zero at Medigadda Barrage and countered every allegation with facts and figures, demanding the State government to take up rectification measures instead of continuing the political blame game.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao, who led a massive delegation of BRS leaders including MPs, MLAs and former Ministers, said the visit was per directions of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao after the Nalgonda public meeting, to bring forth the ground reality and place it before the people to expose the false campaign of the Congress government.

“This is just the beginning and the first step. We will visit all components of the Kaleshwaram project. It is still the world’s largest lift Irrigation project and just because three pillars sunk at Medigadda Barrage, the Congress government is indulging in a misinformation campaign that the entire Kaleshwaram project was futile and that Rs.1 lakh crore of investment has been wasted,” he said.

“If the standing crops have to be saved, water has to be supplied by taking up repair works immediately. But the State government is deliberately delaying the repair works due to political grudges,” Rama Rao told the media at Medigadda.

Former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao slammed the Congress government for failing to protect the interests of farmers. An all-party meeting should be conducted to discuss the rectification measures for Medigadda. The Congress government should prove its commitment to farmers welfare by initiating the rectification steps, he said.

Welcoming Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy’s statements to take up repair works soon after the NDSA report and recommendations, the former Irrigation Minister said in a way, this was a victory of the BRS.

Coming down heavily on the Congress false campaign on the BRS government’s efforts to construct the Medigadda barrage as against at Tummadihati, he said the decision was taken following the Central Water Commission’s instructions in 2015. They specifically directed the BRS government to explore other locations citing non-availability of water at Tummadihati, he said.

The Congress government’s charges that water was provided only to 97,000 acres was false. In fact, water was provided to 20 lakh acres, besides stabilization of ayacut, facilitating increase in agriculture production, groundwater recharge and fisheries production, he said.

On the sinking of pillars at Medigadda, he said in the past, the Kadem project was washed away twice. Similarly, Taliperu vagu and Palem vagu, which was constructed under Jala Yagnam by the then Congress government were washed away.

Under Jala Yagnam, the then Congress government had planned 33 projects but not one project was completed. The CAG too had pointed out irregularities to the tune of Rs.52,000 crore in Jala Yagnam, he said.

“Politics should not be the top priority for the State government. The Congress government can book any number of cases on us and we will bear but if the interests of farmers are compromised, we will not tolerate it,” Harish Rao said.

Mincing no words in slamming the BJP for its opportunistic politics, he said in Gujarat, the Morbi bridge collapsed and 160 people were killed but no report was submitted. At Polavaram, which was being executed by Central Water Commission, the cofferdam was washed away five years ago and still there was no report, he said.

“Polavaram was launched with an estimate of Rs.10,000 crore. So far, Rs.55,000 crore has been spent and another Rs.1 lakh crore is estimated to be needed,” Harish Rao pointed out.

“Our dear people should form a capable Islamic Council and Assembly of Experts for Leadership by taking part in the poll,” he said.

Saying that the future of the country will be determined today, he added, “We must choose the best and cast out ballots so that the Islamic Council and Assembly of Leadership Experts will be formed.

People’s participation in the elections shows that they stand by their ideals of the Islamic Revolution, the martyrs, and Imam Khomeini (RA), Bagheri said.

Biden admin. green-lighted Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza: Congresswoman

American Congresswoman Ilhan Omar says the administration of US President Joe Biden green-lighted the Israeli regime’s massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, blasting the US arms aid to the regime as “state-sponsored violence.”

Omar made the statement at a press conference on Thursday along with other US lawmakers, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), as she voiced concerns about the high death toll of Palestinian civilians and the displacement of over one million people in Gaza.

Criticizing the Biden administration for approving additional aid to Israel without congressional approval, Omar said, “This administration cannot claim to be an honest broker of peace while green-lighting the massacre of Palestinians. The restocking of Israel’s arsenal is not foreign policy. It is state-sponsored violence waged against defenseless families who want to only live in peace.”

The US lawmaker stressed that, “If we truly want to uplift humanity to protect … the innocent people of Gaza, to bring hostages safely home, to hold out hope for peace, then we must demand cease-fire now.”

Omar also expressed disappointment with the response from the US and the world’s political leaders to Israeli atrocities, underlining that empty rhetoric about human rights without any meaningful action is unacceptable.

The Democratic representative for Minnesota said the Biden administration’s policies lack effective pressure on Israel and fail to deter the regime from the continuation of its crimes against Palestinians.

“Despite the clarity surrounding Gaza’s despair, the response from political leaders has been nothing short of callous inaction; empty rhetoric about human rights ring hollow when no action follows,” Omar said.

“This administration’s policies fail to meaningfully pressure Israel through restrictions, sanctions or any hint of consequence,” she added. “Each war crime and violation compiled by journalists, human rights groups and UN agencies are bearing witness. And still, I ask where is the accountability for these crimes.”

Israel waged its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 30,228 Palestinians and injured 71,377 others.

The Tel Aviv regime has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

4th Fastest In 147 years: Ireland Clinch 1st Win In Test To Make History

Ireland finally won their first Test match on Friday when they defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in Abu Dhabi, ending a streak of seven successive losses. Captain Andy Balbirnie led from the front with an undefeated 58 as Ireland reached their modest target of 111 in the final session of the third day. Ireland had played their first Test back in 2018 when they were defeated by Pakistan. “We’re absolutely excited. We’ve created history. The monkey is off the back and it’s very special to do that,” said Balbirnie whose team were wobbling at 13-3 at one stage.

“Obviously there were nerves; we were chasing our first win. You ask this whole group how special this is. A lot of our guys didn’t get to play Test cricket. Hopefully people back home want to be Test cricketers.”

Ireland are now the fourth fastest team in the 147 year history of Tests to clinch a win in the format. Australia took one match to win their first Test. England, Pakistan and Afghanistan took two matches to win their first Test. West Indies took six matches while Ireland has now taken eight matches. India won their first Test after 25 matches.

Afghanistan resumed their second innings Friday on 134-3 before they were dismissed for 218.

Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi top scored with 55 while Rahmanullah Gurbaz, making his Test debut, hit 46. Mark Adair picked up three wickets to finish with eight for the match. Craig Young and Barry McCarthy also claimed three apiece.

Gurbaz, better known for his flamboyant and explosive shot-making in limited overs cricket, clubbed the only two sixes of the innings.

Chasing just 111 for victory, Ireland were in trouble with three wickets down for just 13 runs with 18-year-old fast bowler Naveed Zadran clean-bowling opener Peter Moor and Curtis Campher, both without scoring.

Balbirnie denied the teenager a hat-trick but Harry Tector was soon caught behind by Gurbaz off Nijat Masood for two. Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, who both played in Ireland’s debut Test in 2018, briefly steadied dressing room nerves.

Stirling was then caught in the slips off left-arm spinner Zia-ur-Rehman for 14 as Ireland slipped to 39-4 just after tea.

However, Balbirnie moved watchfully to his fourth Test half-century, which came from 86 balls, ably supported by Lorcan Tucker (27 not out) in a crucial winning partnership of 72.

“I think the first day, when we were batting, we let ourselves down,” said Shahidi.

“The Irish seamers were bowling very well but we threw our wickets away.”

He added: “We have some positives. Gurbaz was very positive on debut. Naveed had had a good Test against Sri Lanka, and in this match also he did very well.”

Irish fast bowler Adair said he was “buzzing” with the victory.

“Test cricket is pretty difficult. I think we’ve got a really good bowling group,” he said.

The two teams will now play three one-day internationals and three T20 games as part of their multi-format series.

India Expresses Shock As Over 100 Killed While Awaiting Aid In North Gaza

The massacre began early Thursday when a convoy of trucks with supplies landed in Gaza (File)

New Delhi:

India expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in Northern Gaza after over 100 people were killed there on Thursday when Palestinians gathered around aid trucks for food.

“We are deeply shocked at the loss of lives in Northern Gaza yesterday during the delivery of humanitarian assistance,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The MEA stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to remain a cause for concern.

“Such loss of civilian lives and the larger humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to be a cause for extreme concern. We reiterate our call for safe and timely delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance,” the MEA said in a statement.

Palestinians died in a firing allegedly by Israeli troops, CNN reported quoting Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses.

The massacre began early Thursday when a convoy of trucks with supplies landed on Haroun Al Rasheed Street in western Gaza City’s Sheikh Ajleen neighbourhood.

According to witnesses, people swarmed around the newly arrived relief vehicles when Israeli soldiers opened fire. According to one version, several died after being hit by lorries.

An eyewitness informed CNN that as relief trucks attempted to flee the scene, others were mistakenly rammed, resulting in further deaths and injuries.

Israel Defence Forces spokesperson Lt Col Peter Lerner, in response to the deadly incidents, clarified that the aid trucks involved belonged to “international aid by governments that came on in private truckloads to move north. We need to do everything to alleviate the humanitarian situation”.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed strong condemnation for the devastating incident as the Gaza health ministry said over 100 lives were lost.

“The desperate civilians in Gaza need urgent help, including those in the besieged north where the United Nations has not been able to deliver aid in more than a week,” stated Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN chief. While the UN was not present during the incident, it has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic events.

Expressing his dismay at the death count of Gazans in the ongoing conflict, Mr Guterres noted that the health ministry reported a death count surpassing 30,000, with over 70,000 injured.

The UN chief said, “Tragically, an unknown number of people lie under rubble,” reinforcing the urgent need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the unconditional release of all Israeli hostages in Gaza.
