US Woman Dies After Falling Ill On American Airlines Flight

US Woman Dies After Falling Ill On American Airlines Flight

The flight from Dominican Republic was diverted to the Turks and Caicos Islands.

An American woman travelling on American Airlines Flight 2790 from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to Charlotte, North Carolina, tragically passed away after experiencing a sudden illness on the flight, according to The New York Post.

The 41-year-old passenger, identified by family members as an Indiana mother of two, became ill during the flight, prompting the crew to divert the plane to Providenciales International Airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Despite the crew’s efforts to revive the woman and the prompt response of medical personnel upon landing, she was pronounced dead at the local hospital. The Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force confirmed the incident and stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, according to the news outlet.

“A commercial flight was diverted to the Turks and Caicos this evening after a female passenger fell ill mid-flight. At 6:12 pm, the Police Control Room received a call from the Air Traffic Control Tower requesting medical assistance for a 41-year-old female, who at the time was receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),” reads the Facebook post.

While the official identification of the dead is pending, a woman on Facebook also identified the passenger as her sister-in-law.

“We are in disbelief, and our hearts are broken,” Stephanie Quinn wrote in response to the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force’s announcement.

Quinn described her sister-in-law as the only girl out of five siblings and the mother of two “beautiful children with big hearts and straight as.”

“She is still down there, so please take good care of her as she ventures home,” pleaded Quinn, who did not immediately respond to messages Friday.

Hezbollah strikes Israeli military positions in solidarity with Gaza

Hezbollah has conducted multiple strikes against Israeli military positions in the northern sector of the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories, in yet another retaliatory operation amid the war on Gaza.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television, citing a brief Hezbollah statement, reported that the group launched two surface-to-surface Falaq (Dusk) missiles at Khirbet Ma’ar base late on Friday, and the projectiles hit the designated targets precisely.

Hezbollah fighters also struck a gathering of Israeli soldiers inside the Ruwaisat al-Alam outpost in the occupied Kfar Chouba Hills, causing casualties among the troops.

Moreover, the Lebanese resistance group targeted Israeli forces stationed near the al-Menara military site, leaving several soldiers injured as a result.

It also rained down rockets on other Israeli military sites, including one in the occupied Lebanese village of Hounin and al-Baghdadi outpost.

A gathering of Israeli troops came under a drone strike as the troops were about to take a position in the Ma’ayan Baruch kibbutz.

Additionally, Israeli soldiers positioned near Ramim barracks were targeted with a salvo of rockets. There were no immediate reports about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.

The Israeli regime launched the devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.

The Israeli military has also been carrying out attacks against the Lebanese territory since then, prompting retaliatory strikes from Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the Tel Aviv regime continues its onslaught on Gaza.

The Israeli war on Gaza has killed at least 30,228 people, most of them children and women. Another 71,377 individuals have also been wounded.

Amarnath Ghosh was pursuing an MFA in Dance at the Washington University in Saint Louis.

New Delhi:

The Indian government has said they are in touch with US authorities and following the investigation into the murder of renowned Kuchipudi dancer, Amarnath Ghosh. He was shot dead on Tuesday while he was talking an evening walk in US’ Missouri.

Ghosh was pursuing an MFA in Dance at the Washington University in Saint Louis.

The Indian consulate in Chicago said that they are constantly following the investigation and are in touch with the local authorities.

“Deep condolences to family & friends of deceased Amarnath Ghosh in StLouis, Missouri.  We are following up forensic, investigation with police & providing support,” the embassy said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Consulate is extending all help to relatives of deceased Amarnath Ghosh. Taken up the case strongly with St Louis police and the University for investigation of the reprehensible gun attack,” the embassy added.

The incident was first highlighted by television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who in a post on X had sought the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the case.

“My friend #Amarnathghosh was shot and killed in St Louis academy neighbourhood, US on Tuesday evening. Only child in the family, mother died 3 years back. Father passed away during his childhood. Well the reason, accused details everything are not revealed yet or perhaps no one left in his family to fight for it except his few friends. He was from kolkata. Excellent dancer , was pursuing PHD , was taking an evening walk and suddenly he was shot multiple times by an unknown,” Ms Bhattacharjee wrote.

Appealing to the Indian embassy and PM Modi, the actor wrote, “Some friends in US are trying to claim the body but still no update about it. Indian Embassy US kindly see to it if you could. Atleast we should know the reason of his murder.”

An exponent in four dance styles, Amarnath Ghosh was an alumnus of the Kalakshetra Academy in Chennai. Ghosh was the recipient of a National Scholarship for Kuchipudi, from the International Cultural Ministry. He was trained under Bobita Dey Sarkar, Sri M.V Narasimhachari and Padma Sri Adyar K Lakshman.

The tragic incident adds to a series of violent incidents against Indians or Indian-Americans in the United States in recent months. Recently, an Indian-origin motel owner was shot dead by a homeless trespasser in Newport city in the US state of North Carolina.

On February 10, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive died after suffering life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington.

Bundesliga: Freiburg’s late equalizer stalls Bayern Munich 2-2 draw

Berlin: Bayern Munich suffered another setback in the Bundesliga title race as Lucas Holer’s late equalizer helped Freiburg snatch a 2-2 stalemate in the 24th round on Friday.

Freiburg started brightly on home soil and pressed Bayern into defense, as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer denied Roland Sallai twice in quick succession in the opening stages.

Freiburg broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Christian Gunter drilled home Nicolas Hofler’s lay-up from 18 meters into the top right corner.

The German giants lacked in ideas but managed to level the scores after Mathys Tel collected a loose ball following a corner, before curling the ball into the far post corner with 35 minutes played.

After the restart, Bayern gained a foothold into the match as Harry Kane missed the target two minutes into the second half, with both of the England striker’s long-range efforts no challenge for Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu.

Thomas Tuchel’s men turned the tides in the 75th minute when Jamal Musiala danced through Freiburg’s penalty area before slotting past Atubolu into the far post bottom corner.

Freiburg stunned Bayern with the equalizer in the closing stages as a throw-in from substitute Michael Gregoritsch found Holer, who tapped home from inside the box.

Second-placed Bayern reduced the arrears to leaders Leverkusen to seven points for the moment, while Freiburg stayed on ninth position.

“We played an undisciplined first half, but we showed a great reaction after falling behind. After the break we dominated but gave away our narrow lead because of a moment of distraction,” commented Tuchel.

“The boys did a great job. They played with a lot of passion and will. We deserved a draw,” said Freiburg coach Christian Streich.

Vikramaditya Singh's Big Move As Congress Tries To Douse Himachal Crisis

Vikramaditya Singh's Big Move As Congress Struggles To Douse Himachal Crisis

Shimla:

Himachal minister Vikramaditya Singh has sent the Congress leadership in a huddle again after he removed his official designation from his Facebook bio. Formerly identified as the PWD Minister and an Indian National Congress member, his bio now just reads “servant of Himachal”. The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh almost fell after a Rajya Sabha election loss, and has since then been in firefighting mode.

Vikramaditya Singh, the son of six-time former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, met the other rebel Congress MLAs before leaving for New Delhi yesterday.

Sources reveal that Mr Singh could meet key BJP leaders in Delhi, including prominent figures like former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and State President Rajiv Bindal.

He has publicly accused the Congress of disrespecting his father, even though they sought votes in the last assembly elections in his name.

Simultaneously, the state government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has appointed Ramapur MLA Nandalal as the Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Finance Commission, replacing Vikramaditya Singh. The move is seen as a measure that Mr Singh may have fallen out of favour within the party.

On Wednesday, as the Congress dealt with the challenge of cross-voting MLAs, Vikramaditya Singh had announced his resignation. He accused the Chief Minister of “negligence” towards his lawmakers and broke down as he accused the party of not allotting land for a statue of his father.

That same day the Congress pulled off a last-gasp maneuver to save itself, expelling 15 BJP MLAs to bring down the effective strength of the House and pass the state budget.

Soon after, Vikramaditya Singh took back his resignation.

The political saga will unfold today when the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet convenes at 11 am. The crisis exploded after the six rebels, and three independents who had professed their support, voted for the BJP’s candidate in this week’s Rajya Sabha election, and were then taken by the party.

The Chief minister has accused the rebel MLAs who voted against the party of being “black snakes” who sold their honour. “How can people who sell their honour for money serve the people of their constituency,” he said, while addressing a public meeting in Dharampur,” Mr Sukhu said.

In political life, people who betray their party which gave them a chance to contest elections are called “black snakes,” he said.

President Raeisi arrives in Algeria in first presidential visit in 14 years

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has arrived in the Algerian capital to take part in a meeting of the world’s leading natural gas producers and to enhance the Islamic Republic’s cooperation with regional and international alliances.

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Raeisi departed Tehran for Algiers in the early hours of Saturday to attend the 7th meeting of the leaders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

During the visit, which comes at the official invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Iranian chief executive is scheduled to meet with other top officials from the 19-member gathering of the world’s leading natural gas producers.

The two presidents are also set to sign several memoranda of understanding on the sidelines of the international meeting.

Raeisi’s trip marks the fourth visit of Iranian presidents to the North African country, which took place with a gap of about 14 years after former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit in 2010.

The GECF, which is comprised of 13 permanent members and seven observers, was established in 2008 based on an initial proposal by Iran as one of the world’s largest holders of natural gas reserves.

Raeisi’s trip comes on the backdrop of Iran’s efforts to boost relations with countries in North Africa, including Sudan, with which Iran had strained relations in recent years, and with Egypt, a country that has had no diplomatic relations with Iran since 1979.
