US, UK, French officers, not just mercenaries, are in Ukraine: Lavrov

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has revealed that military officers from the United States, United Kingdom, and France are present in Ukraine rather than only mercenaries from those countries.

“Before the coup d’etat [in Ukraine], hundreds of US citizens occupied seats in ministries, just as they now allegedly have their own mercenaries, but in fact there are military officers there — there are UK and French (officers),” Lavrov said Friday.

“We are well aware of this,” he added.

While taking part in the third Diplomacy Forum in Antalya, Turkey, which welcomed delegates from 147 countries, Lavrov further said that NATO troops are already present in Ukraine, and that French President Emmanuel Macron didn’t misspeak over the possibility of NATO sending troops to Kiev.

“I don’t think he misspoke,” Lavrov said at the forum, in response to Macron’s Monday remarks, who did not rule out that NATO troops could be sent to Ukraine, and that “everything that is necessary” must be done to ensure the defeat of Russia, including deploying troops.

“The very fact that they want to deploy troops has been expressed explicitly, but unofficially, they (NATO) are already there,” he added.

“Ukraine would not be able to use these so-called long-ranged weapons against Russian cities without these instructors.”

“We all understand this perfectly well, he said, adding that there is abundant evidence to prove his claim.

On Monday, the French president stated that the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine could not be dismissed, despite the lack of “consensus” on the matter.

“There is no consensus at this stage… to send troops on the ground,” Macron said.

“Nothing should be excluded. We will do everything that we must so that Russia does not win.”

Macron’s statement immediately prompted several French officials to enhance the manifestations of his words onto the European Union and the global community, according to Lavrov.

“Many there (in the EU), including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, began to categorically deny (Macron’s claims),” he said.

“But Macron’s officials, including the new foreign minister (Stephane Sejourne), hurried to say that he meant something different – that troops could be sent there not to fight but to teach and this may not lead to a war with Russia,” the top Russian diplomat added.

Ukraine drone attack hits Saint Petersburg

A powerful blast rocked the Russian city of St. Petersburg early on Saturday when a drone crashed into an apartment block, local media have reported. City authorities have confirmed “an incident” took place and that an evacuation was underway, Russia Today reported.

According to local outlet Fontanka, the explosion occurred in the northern part of the city, and the facade of a residential block was “seriously damaged.”

St. Petersburg Mayor Alexandr Beglov declined to say whether it was a drone strike.

“There have been no casualties. The balcony windows of two buildings were partially damaged. Residents of the affected apartments have been evacuated,” he wrote on Telegram, adding that police and emergency services were working at the scene.

The press service of the St. Petersburg Health Committee later reported that six people sought medical help following the incident.

MP CM launches air ambulance service

Ujjain: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday launched an air ambulance service, which will be used for airlifting critically ill and injured persons to hospitals in the state.

Yadav virtually launched “PM Shri Air Ambulance Service” during the Regional Industry Conclave at Government Engineering College here.

Union Minister Arjun Meghwal attended the event, while Union Minister Piyush Goyal joined the launch virtually.

The facility was earlier named Chief Minister Air Ambulance Service, but was later renamed as PM Shri Air Ambulance Service, officials said.

The helicopters will be deployed at all districts of the state and will have expert doctors, and paramedics. They will also be equipped with ICU facilities to attend to critically ill or injured persons, they said.

The command centre of the service is located in Bhopal, and it is connected to all health centres and district hospitals in the state, they said.

If necessary, critical patients can also be taken to hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai and other places for advanced health care using this service, officials said.

The facility will be of great help to victims of road and industrial accidents, they said.

"No One Bigger Than Game": WC Winner Backs BCCI Over Contract Row

Former Indian cricket team pacer Madan Lal, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for terminating star duo Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer‘s central contracts. While the BCCI didn’t reveal the reason behind the decision to axe Kishan and Iyer, reports have claimed that the board was not happy with the players after both decided to skip domestic games for their state teams, despite being cleared fit by the NCA. Lal lauded BCCI over the polarising move, saying that playing domestic cricket should be made compulsory for those who prioritise IPL over First Class matches.

“If the BCCI told them to play first-class cricket, they should have gone and played. No one is bigger than the game. The BCCI should be given the credit as they are making it mandatory to play first-class cricket. Most of the players nowadays are taking First-class cricket for granted because of the IPL. Definitely, the BCCI made a rule that every player should go and play First-class cricket. So if you don’t follow the rules, then they have to take some action and set an example for others,” Lal told Times of India.

Iyer had missed Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal last week after complaining of back stiffness. However, the NCA denied his claims, saying that the player was completely fit. Iyer was reportedly training at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s training camp.

Lal said that if a player is declared fit by NCA, he shouldn’t skip domestic matches.

“They have to play (first-class cricket) if they are fit. The main thing is fitness. If they are fit, then they can play the first-class season. But a good season in IPL can always be beneficial, and there is no doubt about their class. They have done so well here and there. But it is the BCCI making sure that the boys are disciplined,” he added.

After being left out of the contracts list, Iyer did turn up for Mumbai in their ongoing Ranji Trophy semi-final clash against Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Kishan too didn’t turn up for Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy matches as he was in Baroda training with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya ahead of the IPL.

US Woman Born On Leap Day Gives Birth To Baby On Leap Day

Dr Kai Sun and her husband, Michael Paik, were delighted by Chloe’s timely arrival.

A North Carolina doctor, Dr Kai Sun, welcomed a very special delivery on Thursday-her daughter, Chloe, who arrived on the same rare day Dr Sun herself was born: Leap Day.

Dr Sun, an assistant professor and rheumatologist at Duke Health, and her husband, Michael Paik, celebrated the birth of their third child at 5:12 am on February 29th. Though Chloe was three days past her due date of February 26th, she made a grand entrance on a truly unique day. Baby Chloe weighed in at 6 pounds and 13 ounces.

“My husband and I were just saying how cool it would be if she were born on the same day as my birthday. And somehow, it happened,” Sun told “Good Morning America” Thursday morning from her hospital bed at Duke University Hospital, where she also works.

Dr Sun said she and her daughter are now both “doing well.”

“She was breathing fast initially when she was born, so they took her to the nursery for a little bit to see the paediatrician, but everything checked out, and she’s peacefully sleeping,” Dr Sun said.

This Leap Day birth holds even more significance for the family as Chloe is also a rainbow baby, a term used for a child born after a miscarriage or infant loss.

“We had a miscarriage almost exactly a year ago, and so that makes her more special,” Dr Sun said.

“There were some little things along the way,” the doctor added of her pregnancy. “There was some abnormal finding on the initial ultrasound that we were nervous about. And then I had COVID. And I fell on my belly in my third trimester. There are just some small things that happened that made us a little nervous, but everything turned out well in the end.”

Raeisi hails turnout to Fri. votes as big blow to enemies

Raeisi said in his congratulatory message on Saturday that the ill-wishers did all they could to prevent people from turning out to the polling stations on March 1 while the people frustrated them by their big turnout.

According to Raeisi, the turnout which was full of Iranian people’s faith and hope, understanding and timely decision-making, was a “big no” to Global Arrogance (big Western countries) who had spent billions of dollars plotting against Iran’s elections.

He further described the people’s turnout as a major blow to the anti-Iran enemies, who had miscalculated people’s turnout after the last year’s Western-backed riots.

BJP Likely To Release Its 1st Lok Sabha Candidates' List Today: Sources

The names of PM Modi, Amit Shah are likely to be there on the first candidate list of the BJP.

New Delhi:

The BJP is expected to release the first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections this evening, sources said. The list that is said to be announced at a BJP press conference at 6 pm comes days after back-to-back late-night meetings in Delhi. The BJP may also announce new allies in the National Democratic Alliance or NDA, they said.

The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) met on Thursday night as its members, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who chaired the meeting, held deliberations to finalise the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls expected to be held in April-May. The ruling party is looking to name its candidates for the Lok Sabha seats before the Election Commission’s poll schedule announcement. The meeting was attended by leaders from various states – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Gujarat’s Bhupendra Patel, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav, Chhattisgarh’s Vishnu Deo Sai, Uttarakhand’s Pushkar Singh Dhami and Goa’s Pramod Sawant. State leaders usually attend the CEC meeting when candidates for constituencies in their states are discussed.

Earlier, the sources told NDTV that the BJP may announce more than 100 names that will include heavyweights such as PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The BJP, the sources claim, intends to name most of its candidates well before poll dates are announced to ramp up pressure on its rival, the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which is still facing roadblocks in seat-sharing deals in many states.

As per the sources, the BJP is likely to follow its template of recent assembly polls and announce a large number of seats in the first list where it needs to improve its prospects.

The BJP’s candidate lists often give a chance to new faces and this time around also eyes will be on whether it drops some well-known names or does some fresh experiment in selecting its nominees. This holds significance as two BJP MPs – Jayant Sinha and Gautam Gambhir – requested BJP president JP Nadda today to relieve them so that they can focus on their other commitments.
