Leaders Real Madrid Face Athletic Bilbao In Final Run Towards Liga Title

La Liga leaders Real Madrid host Athletic Bilbao on Sunday as the Spanish top flight ramps up for an exciting end to the season. Madrid have a firm grip on the title race after shaking free of Catalan minnows Girona before the international break, but Ernesto Valverde’s high-flying Athletic will be tricky opposition at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Basque side, in the Copa del Rey final, are fighting to secure a top four finish and a return to Champions League football next season.

Athletic are fourth, a point clear of Diego Simeone’s Atletico in fifth, who face Villarreal on Monday.

Madrid have a comfortable eight-point lead on champions Barcelona with nine matches remaining and if they can beat Athletic will be confident of holding on to claim a third title in five seasons.

The Catalans have found form in recent weeks after coach Xavi Hernandez said he would walk away at the end of the season, and face Las Palmas at home on Saturday.

Barcelona are unbeaten in 10 matches and thumped Atletico 3-0 at the Metropolitano stadium in their last outing, showing Madrid they would not relinquish their crown without a fight.

“All the players are giving their best and are at their best level,” warned Xavi before the international break.

“Now we’re at our best moment of the season, it’s a moment to dream.”

He added: “An eight point advantage is a lot (but) we have a direct clash against them and we will try to do it.”

Real Madrid are close to recovering defender Eder Militao from injury although he is unlikely to face Athletic.

Top goalscorer Jude Bellingham is set to return to the side after a two-match suspension, although he and Fede Valverde returned from international duty with minor fitness concerns.

Despite Madrid’s frequent injury problems this season, Ancelotti was positive about the team’s chances of silverware this season.

“I am quite optimistic and we are better than ever,” said the Italian, before Madrid beat Osasuna in their previous match.

“We have to be excited for the games to come, we have to be happy, satisfied and hopeful.”

Seven points clear of Atletico, Girona should be able to hold on to a top four spot, although their form has dipped badly with four defeats in their last six matches.

“Not reaching the Champions League would be a big blow,” admitted coach Michel Sanchez.

Girona host Real Betis, seventh, on Sunday before visiting Atletico Madrid.

Player to watch: Lamine Yamal

The Barcelona winger continues to shine for his club and country, playing a key role for Spain against Brazil on Tuesday in an entertaining draw. Barca coach Xavi Hernandez is torn between trying not to burn out the 16-year-old and allowing him free reign to cause havoc down the right wing, with Las Palmas next visiting the Catalan capital on Saturday.

Key stats

3 – Real Betis striker Chimy Avila has been sent off more than any other player this season, twice with Osasuna

15 – Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon has kept the most clean sheets

US Woman Claims She Was 'Scolded' By Flight Official For Not Wearing A Bra

US Woman Claims She Was 'Scolded' By Flight Official For Not Wearing A Bra

Los Angeles:

A woman who says she was threatened with being kicked off a US Delta Air Lines flight because she was not wearing a bra demanded a meeting with the company’s top boss on Thursday over what she says is a discriminatory policy.

Lisa Archbold said she had on baggy jeans and a loose white t-shirt — with no bra — and claimed she was temporarily escorted off a flight by a female gate agent who demanded she cover up, even though her breasts were not visible.

“It felt like a scarlet letter was being attached to me,” Archbold, 38, told reporters in Los Angeles about the January incident.

“I felt it was a spectacle aimed at punishing me for not being a woman in the way she thought I should be a woman as she scolded me outside of the plane.”

Archbold, a DJ who was flying from Salt Lake City in conservative Utah to the famously liberal San Francisco, claims the Delta agent said her attire was “revealing” and “offensive” and that airline policy was not to allow passengers dressed that way to travel.

But, the agent said, if she put a jacket over her t-shirt, she would be allowed to continue her journey.

Attorney Gloria Allred said she had written to Delta on behalf of Archbold demanding a meeting with the company’s president to discuss the discriminatory policy.

“Male passengers are not required to cover up their t-shirts with a shirt or a jacket,” she said.

“They also do not have to wear a bra to board or remain on a plane and women should not have to wear one either.

“Last I checked, the Taliban are not in charge of Delta.”

Allred said US federal rules allow airlines to remove passengers who present a safety or security risk to the plane or its passengers, but that was clearly not the case with Archbold.

“Neither her breasts nor any other woman’s breasts have ever tried to take over a plane,” she said.

“Breasts are not weapons of war, and it’s not a crime for a woman or girl to have them.”

Allred said there were currently no plans for a lawsuit and that all she and Archbold wanted was a meeting with Delta’s president to secure assurances their policies would be updated.

In response to AFP inquiries, a spokesperson for the company said: “Earlier this year, Delta representatives contacted this customer with an apology.”

From AI To Bridging Digital Divide: What PM Modi Discussed With Bill Gates

PM Modi said AI plays an important role in today’s world.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Microsoft co-founder today discussed a wide range of issues from Artificial Intelligence to the future of technology and women empowerment.

PM Modi said that Artificial Intelligence or AI technology helped to translate his speeches and address in different languages at the G20 Summit.

Speaking to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the Prime Minister said AI plays an important role in today’s world. “AI is very important. Sometimes, I jokingly say that in our country, we call our mother ‘Ai (pronounced as aayee)’. Now I say that when a child is born, he says ‘Ai ‘ as well as AI as children have become so advanced,” the Prime Minister said.

He asked Bill Gates to take a selfie through his (NaMo) app and then showed him how it could be located through the face-recognition technology.

Bill Gates praised India’s technological advancements, adding that the country is leading the way.

Misuse of AI

The Prime Minister also pointed at the deepfake content generated through various AI tools, and called for measures to tackle the misuse of the technology.

He said that the world should establish some dos and don’ts for using this technology.

“In a democratic country like India, anybody can use deepfake. It’s crucial to acknowledge that deepfake content is AI-generated. We need to think about some dos and don’ts,” he said.

He also said that people shouldn’t be misguided about AI.

“If we use AI as a magic tool, it will perhaps lead to a grave injustice. If AI is relied on out of laziness then it is the wrong path,” the Prime Minister added.

Bridging Digital Divide

PM Modi said he believed in democratisation of technology as it gives everyone an equal opportunity, adding that the government has launched various schemes for villages.

“When I used to hear about the digital divide in the world, I used to think that I would not allow anything like that to happen in my country. Digital public infrastructure is a major requirement in itself,” he said.

He also said that women are “more open to adopting” new technology in India.

“I have started ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme. This is going on very successfully. I interact with them these days, they are delighted. They say that they didn’t know to ride a bicycle but they are now pilots and can fly drones. The mindset has changed,” he said.

''Traumatised Us For Life'': Gurugram Woman Opens Up On Dry Ice Horror, Demands Justice

''Traumatised Us For Life'': Gurugram Woman Opens Up On Dry Ice Horror, Demands Justice

The incident happened on March 2

Earlier this month, five people began vomiting blood and reported a burning sensation in their mouths after eating mouth freshener at a Gurugram cafe. The incident happened on March 2 when Ankit Kumar, his wife and their friends visited Laforestta Cafe in Gurugram, where they took ill after being given dry ice as a mouth freshener. Now, one of the victims has come forward to share details of the horrific incident, demanding justice.

Speaking to People of India, Nehu Sabharwal slammed the restaurant’s negligence and said that her family could have died as a result of the incident. She also said that the restaurant staff ran away instead of helping them.

She said, ”A few hours after we ate, we were leaving the restaurant. What happened in the next 5 minutes traumatised us for life. The waitress gave us a mouth freshener. In the next 3 seconds, we were vomiting blood. We were shouting and shivering in pain for 30 minutes. Instead of helping us, the staff ran away. My husband drove us to the hospital. On reaching the hospital, doctors said you have consumed dry ice, you could have died. I couldn’t eat anything for five days, I was on steroids. FIR was registered but the owner is still not arrested. The restaurant’s license has still not been cancelled. I hope no one suffers like we did. We hope to get justice soon.”

Watch the video here:

While the cafe’s manager was arrested, a case was registered against the restaurant’s owner based on the victims’ complaints.

Reacting to the video, many demanded strict action against the cafe owner. One user said, ”The person who did this should be arrested ASAP. This is very serious and should not be ignored. I hope everyone is now safe.”

Another commented, ”This is madness!! I hope y’all are okay now. It’s insane to even think how the dry ice even got mixed with the mouth freshener, really goes to show how negligent the staff is.”

Ms Sabharwala also posted a video about the incident on her Instagram account and demanded the owner’s arrest. ”No ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN AGAINST THE OWNER Kindly join me in. This drive to take appropriate action against the culprits. Also please be aware of what you eat and what’s served to you in eatery joints,” she said.

Notably, dry ice is formed by cooling and condensing carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. It is widely used in shipping products in the food and pharmaceutical industries, as it helps keep products frozen during transportation. However, dry ice can be hazardous if used incorrectly. Due to its extreme temperature, handling dry ice incorrectly may lead to cold burns and frostbite. It can lead to cold burns and asphyxiation if consumed by accident.

Dozens killed, injured in Israeli airstrikes near Syria’s Aleppo

Dozens of people have lost their lives and sustained injuries when Israeli military aircraft carried out a string of aerial assaults on targets near the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo, according to Syrian officials.

Citing an unnamed military source, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that “the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack at approximately 1:45 a.m. local time on Friday (2245 GMT Thursday) from the direction of Athriya, southeast of Aleppo.”

It added that “civilians and military personnel” had been killed and wounded in the strikes.

SANA noted that Israeli drone strikes had targeted civilians in Aleppo and its suburbs. It did not give an exact number for the casualties.

Two security sources said the strikes on Aleppo early on Friday killed 33 civilians and military personnel.

There was no immediate statement from Israeli officials on the strikes.

Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and once its commercial center, has come under such attacks in the past that led to the closure of its international airport. Friday’s strike did not affect the airport.

On Thursday evening, Syrian media outlets reported Israeli airstrikes near the capital Damascus saying it wounded two civilians.

The Israeli regime often conducts airstrikes on military installations in Syria, particularly those belonging to the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has been instrumental in supporting the Syrian army in its battle against terrorists backed by foreign entities.

The Tel Aviv regime does not acknowledge its military actions within Syrian territories, which is widely interpreted as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s triumph over terrorism.

Since the onset of foreign-backed militancy in Syria in 2011, the Israeli regime has stood as a staunch supporter of terrorist factions that are in opposition to the democratically-elected leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.

The recent strikes also come amid an upsurge in Israel’s acts of aggression against Syria and its ongoing genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip which has killed at least 32,552 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

AIMIM to contest 16 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar

Patna: The AIMIM on Thursday announced that it has decided to contest the 16 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar.

State President Akhtarul Imam said that party candidates will contest the Darbhanga, Pataliputra, Kishanganj, Madhubani, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Sheohar, Purnea, Araria, Sitamarhi, Karakat, Maharajganj, Samastipur, Paschim Champaran and Valmiki Nagar seats.

“Our party wanted to be a part of the INDIA bloc but they ignored us. We will fight alone against the BJP,” he said.

“The Muslim community is lagging every section of the society. Even the backwardness of Muslim people appeared in the caste survey of Bihar. Still, none of the political parties are promoting Muslim leaders in Bihar and the country,” Imam said.

He also added that the AIMIM will support Hena Shahab, the widow of Mohd Shahabuddin, if she contests the Lok Sabha election from Siwan.

The AIMIM announcement comes as an alarm bell for the INDIA bloc, especially the RJD as it may impact its MY (Muslim-Yadav) equation. During the 2020 Assembly elections, the AIMIM won 5 seats in Bihar but hit the RJD and the Congress in more than 20 seats.
