Not Kohli, Rahul Picks This RCB Great As His "Inspiration In Cricket"

Having shared the dressing room with him during the early stage of his Indian Premier League (IPL), India batter KL Rahul has picked former South Africa captain AB de Villiers as his inspiration in cricket. Rahul played two seasons (2013 and 2016) with de Villiers during his time at with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). During a recent interaction, Rahul was asked to name his inspiration on the cricket field. While he picked his father as his off-the-field inspiration, Rahul picked his former RCB teammate de Villiers’ name in cricket.

“In life, my father, but on the cricket field, I have been very inspired by AB de Villiers,” Rahul said in a video uploaded by Star Sports.

Rahul made his IPL debut with RCB in 2013, before joining SunRisers Hyderabad in 2014. However, he returned to RCB in 2016, helping them reach the final, where they lost to his former team SRH.

In 2017, Rahul had to skip IPL due to a shoulder injury before joining Punjab Kings ahead of the 2018 season.

Currently with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Rahul will lead the franchise for a third straight season during IPL 2024.

His campaign was cut shot last year due to a quadriceps injury, which has come back to haunt him in the ongoing Test series against England too.

Rahul played the series opener in Hyderabad, before missing the remaining matches due to the same issue.

He has also been ruled out of the fifth and final Test, having travelled to London to get an expert opinion on his injury.

He became unavailable after the series-opener in Hyderabad in January and as per the BCCI, he was 90 per cent fit before the third Test in Rajkot earlier this month.

“Mr. KL Rahul, whose participation in the final Test was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring him and coordinating with specialists in London for further management of his issue,” the Board said in a release.

BB Patil could find the going tough in Zaheerabad

BB Patil could find the going tough in Zaheerabad

Protests within the BJP, initiated on Saturday opposing the leadership’s choice to nominate BB Patil from Zaheerabad, are expected to persist.

Sangareddy: The protests within the BJP, which already began on Saturday against the leadership’s decision to field BB Patil from Zaheerabad, are likely to continue.

Patil was given the opportunity within 24 hours of joining the BJP after resigning from the BRS. Patil, who won from Zaheerabad in 2014 and 2019 on BRS ticket, has dashed the hopes of several others, including M Jaipal Reddy, who had quit the BRS a few years ago following differences with Patil and joined the BJP.

The other disappointed BJP leaders include former MP Ale Narendra’s son, Ale Bhaskar, who was lobbying for the ticket, apart from Banala Lakshma Reddy, who had contested from Zaheerabad in a losing cause in 2019. Industrialist Medapati Prakash Reddy was also among the aspirants.

Since Patil had worked against BJP candidates in the recent assembly elections touring all the seven assembly constituencies, it remains to be seen how these BJP leaders will support him in his Lok Sabha poll campaign.

A BJP leader from Zaheerabad said every BJP leader in the constituency considered Patil as their rival because he had worked to defeat the party’s MLA candidates in 2023, which was still fresh in their memory. More protests, apart from Saturday’s protest at the State party office, are expected to be witnessed in the constituency, he said.

Raeisi slams regional governments for keeping up ties with Israel

Iranian President Ebrhaim Raeisi has slammed some governments in the West Asia region for failing to cut their relations with Israel despite the regime’s continued onslaught on the Palestinians in Gaza.

Raeisi said in a Saturday meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that governments in the region are in fact funding the Israeli war on Gaza by maintaining their economic relations with the Tel Aviv regime.

“One should see what answer some Arab and Muslim governments have for their nations for the indifference to the genocide of the oppressed people of Palestine,” he said in the meeting which was held on the sidelines of a major energy summit in Algiers, Algeria.

Raeisi said the governments that insist on keeping up relations with Israel amid the Gaza war will finally “receive a slap in the face” because of their wrong decisions.

He said the inaction on Gaza gives the Israeli regime and its main supporter the United States enough time to continue committing crimes in Gaza.

The Iranian president is in Algiers to attend the seventh summit of the leaders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, a major international energy bloc where Iran and Qatar are among key members because of their vast natural gas resources.

Iran has supported Qatar’s role as a mediator in negotiations in recent months that have been aimed at working out a ceasefire in Gaza.

In the meeting with Sheikh Tamim on Saturday, Raisi described bilateral relations between Iran and Qatar as “good” and said the two countries should work for a speedier implementation of agreements they have signed in the past.

Sheikh Tamim, for his part, said the Qatari government is proud of the fact that relations between the Arab country and Iran are at their “best ever”.

He said that a brutal attack by the Israeli regime on Thursday in Gaza that killed more than 100 people waiting to receive humanitarian aid will not be deleted from the historical memory of the world.

Yemen has censured the United States over its unqualified support for Israel amid the ground and air strikes against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, holding Washington accountable for the rising tensions in the Red Sea.

“The United States is primarily responsible for the Israeli onslaught [against Palestinians] in the Gaza Strip, as well as the increasing tensions in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait due to its singled out political, military and logistic support for the Zionist regime. Washington has even prevented the UN Security Council from performing its role as regards safeguarding international peace and security,” Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement released on Saturday.

The ministry went on to condemn the uptick in Israeli atrocities and war crimes against Gazans, including the recent loss of more than 100 Palestinian lives in an attack on a crowd waiting for food in Gaza City.

“The [Sana’a-based] National Salvation Government, in light of Israeli aggression supported by the US and Britain, will continue to stop vessels with commercial ties to Israel or heading towards ports in the occupied territories [from sailing in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea].

“It will stop the campaign once the military aggression [against Gaza] comes to an end, and humanitarian aid, foodstuff, medical supplies and fuel could enter the territory without any restrictions,” the statement also read.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have said they won’t stop retaliatory strikes.

The maritime attacks have forced some of the world’s biggest shipping and oil companies to suspend transit through one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

Tankers are instead adding thousands of miles to international shipping routes by sailing around the continent of Africa rather than going through the Suez Canal.

Prime Volleyball League: Calicut Heroes beat Hyderabad Black Hawks in straight sets

Hyderabad: Calicut Heroes returned to winning ways in a dominant fashion, defeating the Hyderabad Black Hawks 15-13, 18-16, 16-14 in the third season of the Prime Volleyball League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.

Chirag Yadav was named the player of the match. Sahil Kumar began well, justifying his selection in the starting line-up for Hyderabad. Jerome Vinith’s fiery attacks helped Calicut gain momentum. Mohan Ukkrapandian’s passing allowed Vikas Maan to attack from the middle, but strong blocks from Stefan Kovacevic, Sahil, and Prince kept things close. But Chirag Yadav’s involvement in attacking moves pushed Calicut ahead.

As Stefan began swinging from the middle to push Hyderabad, Calicut’s Vikas showed his swings from the region to help his side. Sahil’s threat from Zone 4 and a few unforced errors from Calicut allowed Hyderabad to make way back into the contest. But Danial Moatazedi made crucial blocks and Chirag’s incessant attacks gave Calicut control of the topsy-turvy battle.

Despite being on the back foot, Hyderabad’s defensive game remained strong, keeping them in the hunt. Sahil’s swings proved hard for Calicut’s two-man block to tackle. Hemanth’s consistent pipe attacks helped Hyderabad and the momentum shifted. But two massive blocks from Ukkra and Chirag helped Calicut find their way back and win the game in straight sets.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP Announces Names Of Four Bhojpuri Actors In First List

Ravi Kishan, Manoj Tiwari, Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirhua’, and Pawan Singh

In a calculated manoeuvre to secure an early advantage in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and surpass the significant threshold of 400 seats through its alliance with the other parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a list of 195 candidates even before the official announcement of poll dates. The list comprises established political figures and four Bhojpuri film superstars entering the electoral arena.

The four Bhojpuri film actors are Ravi Kishan, Manoj Tiwari, Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirhua’, and Pawan Singh.

Ravi Kishan, who emerged victorious in the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has been nominated once more by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Transitioning from an actor to a politician, Ravi Kishan is now recognized as the Amitabh Bachchan of Bhojpuri cinema.

However, he has indeed made a significant mark in the pan-Indian entertainment industry. Ravi Kishan has acted in numerous Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, earning recognition for his performances. Apart from his work in films, Ravi Kishan has also ventured into the digital streaming space on several popular web services on OTT platforms.

Manoj Tiwari, who secured victories in the North-East Delhi Lok Sabha seat in both the 2014 and 2019 elections, was the subject of speculation regarding a potential shift to contest from a seat in Bihar. However, it has been confirmed that he will, for the third consecutive time, vie for the Lok Sabha seat in North-East Delhi.

Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as ‘Nirahua,’ contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Azamgarh constituency in 2019, where he faced a defeat against the Samajwadi Party’s national president, Akhilesh Yadav. However, in the 2022 elections, Akhilesh Yadav decided to contest the assembly elections, leading to his resignation from the Lok Sabha seat. Subsequently, a by-election was conducted to fill the vacant position, and Nirahua emerged victorious by defeating Akhilesh’s brother and Samajwadi Party candidate, Dharmendra Yadav.

Pawan Singh, renowned as a Bhojpuri singer, actor, music composer, and stage performer, has made a significant move into the political arena. Recognized for his contributions to the Bhojpuri film industry, Singh has now been named as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Asansol Lok Sabha seat in Bengal. This marks a notable transition in his career as he ventures into the realm of politics.

Simultaneously, several prominent figures from the film industry have been announced as candidates for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Notable names include Hema Malini, set to contest from the Mathura Lok Sabha seat, Locket Chatterjee, who will vie for the Hooghly seat in West Bengal, and singer-actor Suresh Gopi, who is slated to contest from the Thrissur seat in Kerala.

Bar Association wants family, labour, SC/ST courts in Kothagudem

Kothagudem Bar Association appealed to High Court judge EV Venugopal to establish family, SC/ST and labour courts in Kothagudem.

Kothagudem: Kothagudem Bar Association has appealed to High Court judge EV Venugopal to establish family court, SC/ST court and labour court in Kothagudem.

The Bar Association president Ramesh Kumar Makkad, general secretary Ravilala Rama Rao and vice president Dundra Ramesh met Justice Venugopal during his visit to the district court on Saturday and submitted a memorandum.

The association office bearers said that there was a serious shortage of staff in the eight courts that were currently being run in Kothagudem district court premises and asked justice Venugopal, who was Kothagudem district portfolio judge, to fill up those vacancies.

In the year 2017, the State government sanctioned Rs 60 lakh to Kothagudem court and the amount remained unspent. The funds could be used for the construction of SC/ST court and family court, they noted.

The association wanted a government pleader appointed to Kothagudem principal district court, to construct new court buildings on ten acres of land and to shift the first additional judicial magistrate court into the premises of the district court.

Appointment of regular judicial officers to the agency courts and monitoring the functioning of the agent to government (district Collector) court, special assistant agent and sub-divisional magistrate (mobile court) by the High Court from time to time were among the issues brought to the notice of the High Court judge.

The association sports secretary Pittala Rama Rao, library secretary Yasa Yugandhar, advocate Mendu Rajamallu and others were present.
