'Void peace treaty with Israel': Moroccans join Jordanian protests

Thousands of protesters have rallied in Jordan and Morocco in solidarity with the Palestinians, who have been subjected to a genocidal Israeli war for nearly six months, calling for severing ties with the occupying regime.

Protesters rallied near the Israeli embassy in the Jordanian capital Amman on Thursday for the fifth consecutive day, carrying Palestinian flags and placards reading “Amman-Gaza one destiny.”

Chanting “No Zionist embassy on Jordanian land,” the demonstrators called on their government to close the Israeli embassy and cancel the 1994 so-called peace treaty that normalized ties with Tel Aviv.

They also expressed their support for the Palestinian resistance and chanted slogans against Israel and the US.

The protest took place amid a high-security presence that was aimed at curbing the number of protesters.

Dozens of Jordanians were arrested in previous days, trying to reach the Israeli embassy as others were beaten.

While the embassy is currently without a diplomatic mission after Israel’s ambassador left Amman in October and Jordan recalled its ambassador in November in protest at the war on Gaza, protesters have said that the embassy has partially resumed operations.

“Our demands include the complete closure of the Israeli embassy. We have heard that the embassy has partially resumed operations. Additionally, we call for the cessation of the land bridge,” Mohammed al-Abssi told Middle East Eye.

He was referring to reports that the Persian Gulf Arab countries are trucking products to Israel via Jordan to avoid Yemen’s pro-Palestine attacks that target Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea.

Mohammed was one of thousands of Jordanians who have been surrounding the Israeli embassy in Amman for the past few days.

A member of the Ataharrak movement against normalization with Israel, he said the siege of the embassy is part of the angry protests that erupted after the onset of the war in October.

“The siege of the embassy has intensified in response to the blockade of the Shifa complex and al-Aqsa Mosque,” he added.

Israel has been attacking and laying siege to al-Shifa medical complex since March 18, and imposed tightened restrictions on Palestinian worshipers’ access to al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Khaled al-Juhani, a member of the National Forum Supporting Resistance, said that even though the Israeli embassy was closed, “this movement still sees it as a symbol of normalization despite the ongoing genocide”.

“The Jordanian people categorically reject normalization and embrace resistance as an option,” he said.

“Today, it is the duty of the Jordanian authorities to begin thinking and acting in a manner that aligns with the aspirations of its people and reconciles with their will.”

In Morocco, people took to the streets of Casablanca, Meknes, and other cities on Thursday, waving Palestinian flags and decrying Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.

They urged an immediate ceasefire as per the UN Security Council resolution adopted earlier this week, and reiterated the demand to cut ties with the Israeli regime.

Morocco, along with the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan, signed US-brokered normalization agreements with the Israeli regime in 2020, drawing condemnations from Palestinians who slammed the deals as “a stab in the back of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.”

Tunisia also saw similar protests in solidarity with Palestinians, with hundreds marching in Sfax and calling for an end to the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Pope Francis Washes Feet Of 12 Women Prisoners In Pre-Easter Ritual

Pope Francis Washes Feet Of 12 Women Prisoners In Pre-Easter Ritual

Vatican City, Holy See:

Pope Francis, who often pleads for compassion to prisoners, washed the feet of 12 incarcerated women in Rome on Thursday in a rite marking Holy Thursday before Easter.

The Argentinian Jesuit visited the Rebibbia women’s prison in the northeastern outskirts of the Italian capital, where he performed the same rite in 2015.

Thursday, however, was the first time the 87-year-old pontiff had dedicated his annual ritual during Holy Week solely to women.

Seated in a wheelchair, the pope washed the feet of each of the prisoners, some of them in tears, before drying them off with a towel and kissing them.

“We all have small failures, big failures,” said the pope in an impromptu homily during a mass held in the courtyard of the prison that holds some 370 women.

“But the Lord is always waiting for us, with open arms, and he never tires of forgiving,” he added.

The washing of feet is “a gesture that draws our attention to the vocation of service,” said Francis, who as a priest in Buenos Aires had already begun visiting prisoners.

A few minutes earlier, the pontiff was all smiles as he shook hands with the inmates.

Last month, the pope caught a flu that caused him to cancel some public meetings. During his subsequent recovery, he has on several occasions asked others to read his speeches.

In the Christian tradition, Holy Thursday commemorates the day when Christ washed the feet of the apostles at the Last Supper.

It is a highlight of Holy Week, which commemorates Christ’s final days before his resurrection on Easter.

Since becoming pope in 2013, the head of the Catholic Church has often visited prisons and refugee centres, including last year on Holy Thursday when he visited a juvenile detention centre and washed the feet of 12 young men.

On Good Friday, he is due to preside over the “Way of the Cross” prayer service at Rome’s Coliseum, which he was unable to attend last year as he recovered from a bronchial infection.

Proofs of link between City Hall terrorists, Ukraine found

On Tuesday, Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov said the first information received from suspects in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack proves a Ukrainian trace.

He added that the Ukrainian special forces were involved, Sputnik reported.

The investigation has obtained evidence of the connection of the terrorists who carried out the attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue with Ukrainian nationalists, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Thursday.

The terrorists received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrency from Ukraine, Russian investigators added.

The committee also announced that another suspect involved in financing terrorists who attacked the Crocus City Hall concert venue has been detained.

On the evening of March 22, a shooting and fire broke out before a concert at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow.

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 143 people were killed. March 24 was declared a day of national mourning.

Four perpetrators of the March 23 attack were detained in the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said they were trying to escape and were moving toward Ukraine, where the Ukrainian side had prepared a “window” for them to cross the border.

"Need To Establish Dos And Don'ts": PM Modi, Bill Gates Discuss Ethical AI

In a discussion with Bill Gates, PM Modi said some dos and don’ts need to be established for AI

New Delhi:

In a candid conversation with Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted important measures that should be taken while using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the contemporary technological world, and said that the world should establish some dos and don’ts for using this technology.

“In a vast democratic country like India, the misuse of deep fake technology. For example, they may misuse my voice. It can initially deceive people, leading to widespread chaos. It’s crucial to acknowledge that deep fake content is AI-generated and mention its source,” PM Modi said while addressing the issue of deep fake.

“These measures are really important, especially in the beginning. We need to establish some Dos and don’ts. Moreover, one should first engage AI within a field of expertise. Simply utilising it because one is “tired” or overutilizing it is not the right approach,” he added.

Deep fake is a video of a person in which their face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else, typically used maliciously or to spread false information.

In a candid conversation with the Microsoft co-founder at his residence PM Modi addressed the challenges posed by AI and underlined the significance of initially using watermarks on AI-generated content to make users aware and prevent misinformation.

“Addressing the challenges AI presents, I have observed that without proper training, there’s a significant risk of misuse when such powerful technology is places in unskilled hands. I’ve engaged with leading minds of AI, I suggested that we should start with clear watermarks on AI-generated content to prevent misinformation. This isn’t to devalue AI creations but to recognise them for what they are,” PM said.

“Data security remains a paramount concern and while India has a legal framework in place. For instance, I have initiated storing all university certificates in the cloud to reduce costs and fulfil various needs efficiently. Previously, there was push for stringent compliance requirements. I advocated for simplification, suggesting that data to be uploaded to the cloud with shared IDs, enabling us to access necessary information directly. This approach underscores my commitment to leveraging technology not just to enhance services but to significantly improve the ease of living for our citizens,” he added.

Bill Gates also acknowledged the challenges that AI presents and said that the technology was also a huge opportunity.

“It’s early days in AI and I think everyone uses it. In the same day you’re surprised at how good it is, and you’re also surprised at how bad it is. It’ll do things you think are hard, and then it’ll fail to do some things you think are easy. I started my trip here in Hyderabad, which was a nice occasion because Microsoft is celebrating 25 years in the country, and that’s been such a fantastic experience. So I was definitely challenging the team there. Hey, we have to make the accuracy better. And for now, it’s like a Copilot. It helps suggest things. But the final decision about the medicine or the letter you want to write, the final decision, we still have to review that, even though it may make us a bit more creative and a bit more productive. You know, it seems like AI is a huge opportunity, but there are some challenges that come with that” Mr Gates said.

AI has been one of the focus areas of the government. The Cabinet had recently approved the comprehensive national-level IndiaAI mission with a budget outlay of Rs. 10,371.92 crore.

The IndiaAI mission will establish a comprehensive ecosystem catalyzing AI innovation through strategic programs and partnerships across the public and private sectors.

10 Health Benefits Of Having An Early Dinner

10 Health Benefits Of Having An Early Dinner

Eating earlier in the evening provides sustained energy levels throughout the night

An early dinner typically refers to consuming the evening meal earlier in the evening, typically between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, depending on individual schedules and cultural norms. Whether an early dinner is good for you depends on various factors, including your lifestyle, dietary needs, and personal preferences. Having an early dinner offers several health benefits, keep reading as we list some of them.

10 Ways consuming an early dinner boosts your health.

1. Improved digestion

Eating dinner early gives your body more time to digest the food before bedtime. This allows for better absorption of nutrients and prevents digestive discomfort during sleep.

2. Enhanced sleep quality

A lighter stomach at bedtime can promote better sleep as it reduces the risk of acid reflux and indigestion, which can disrupt sleep patterns.

3. Weight management

Eating earlier in the evening gives your body more time to burn calories before going to bed, which may aid in weight management and prevent overeating.

4. Regulated blood sugar levels

Consuming dinner early allows for better regulation of blood sugar levels since the body has more time to process and metabolise carbohydrates before resting.

5. Reduced risk of heart disease

Early dinner habits have been associated with a lower risk of heart disease. This may be due to better blood sugar control and improved lipid profiles associated with earlier eating times.

6. Lowered blood pressure

Eating dinner earlier may help lower blood pressure levels, as the body has more time to process food and relax before bedtime, reducing stress on the cardiovascular system.

7. Improved metabolism

Eating earlier can help regulate circadian rhythms and optimise metabolism, leading to better energy levels and overall metabolic health.

8. Prevention of acid reflux

Late-night eating can exacerbate symptoms of acid reflux due to lying down shortly after eating. Having an early dinner allows for better digestion and reduces the risk of reflux.

9. Increased energy levels

Eating earlier in the evening provides sustained energy levels throughout the night and into the next day, promoting better productivity and mental alertness.

10. Better hormonal balance

Eating dinner early can help maintain a healthy hormonal balance, including hormones related to hunger, satiety, and stress, which can contribute to overall well-being.

These benefits occur because the body’s natural circadian rhythm influences various physiological processes, including digestion, metabolism, and hormone production. By aligning meal timing with the body’s internal clock, you optimise these processes, leading to better overall health. Additionally, eating early may also discourage late-night snacking on unhealthy foods, further supporting your health goals.

Ultimately, what matters most is the quality and composition of your meals rather than the exact timing of when you eat them. If you’re considering making changes to your meal timing, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to ensure it aligns with your specific health goals and dietary requirements.

Ex-IPS Sanjiv Bhatt sentenced to 20 years in 1996 drug planting case

Palanpur: The Palanpur sessions court in Banaskantha district on Thursday sentenced ex-IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt to 20 years in jail for his involvement in a 1996 narcotics case.

The court found Bhatt guilty of planting drugs to falsely implicate a Rajasthan-based lawyer in Palanpur, Gujarat, where Bhatt was serving as the Superintendent of Police at the time.

Bhatt had arrested lawyer Sumersingh Rajpurohit under the NDPS Act, claiming that opium was found in his hotel room.

The subsequent probe by the Rajasthan police suggested that Rajpurohit was framed to coerce a property transfer, prompting former police inspector I.B. Vyas to seek a comprehensive probe in 1999.

Bhatt’s arrest by the state CID in 2018 under the NDPS Act led to his detention in the Palanpur sub-jail. The Supreme Court later dismissed his previous appeals for transfer of trial and recording of court proceedings, besides slapping a fine on him for alleging judicial bias.

The court ordered that Bhatt’s 20-year term would commence after his ongoing life sentence in a custodial death case in Jamnagar gets over.

Dismissed from service in 2015, Bhatt has been incarcerated since 2018.

Judge J.N. Thakkar convicted Bhatt under various sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), imposing a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him in addition to the prison term.

Camila Cabello discusses new music approach for ‘C, XOXO’ album

Los Angeles: Popstar Camila Cabello has talked about how she has adopted a new approach to her music ahead of releasing her new album christened ‘C, XOXO’.

Cabello told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “I’ve always been just like a song-based artist. I heard Charli (XCX) say the other day, it’s like artistry is more important than songs.

“I was always the opposite mentality. I was always like, everything is about the song. That was everything for me. It was just isolated from the name or who did it or whatever, it was just about how this four-minute, whatever, three-minute piece of music sounds.”

She feels she’s evolved as an artist in recent years, and her evolution is reflected on her new album.

“I feel like in this process, what you’re hearing is kind of an undiluted version of my creative process now.”

The ‘Havana’ hitmaker added: “I think before, and I love working with co-writers and I think it’s really fun, but this time around I was like, I think the kind of projects that I want to make only works when there’s no other co-writers, and when it’s kind of just me honing in on the craft and really putting it on me, putting the writing part, the songwriting part on me, and really putting in that work every day of expanding my references and writing lyrics and ideas down every day.”

She has already seen the highs of highs and doesn’t want to feel diluted at this stage of her career, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The singer said: “I think I am just now at the age where I’m like, whether this is sink or swim, I want this to just be me.”
