KCR reaches out to farmers, promises to fight for them

The BRS president commenced his tour from the Erravelli farmhouse and reached Darawath thanda in Palakurthy constituency on Sunday. He interacted with farmers, who mostly cultivated paddy crops.

Jangaon: Undeterred by the scorching heat, farmers gathered in large numbers to extend a grand welcome to Leader of Opposition and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, who inspected the withered crops and appealed to the ryots not to lose hope in the district on Sunday.

The BRS president commenced his tour from the Erravelli farmhouse and reached Darawath thanda in Palakurthy constituency on Sunday. He interacted with farmers, who mostly cultivated paddy crops.

One of the farmers, Satyamma, said she dug up four borewells but in vain. Her crops in four acres had dried up due lack of water, resulting in debts of Rs.4 lakh. When Satyamma informed the BRS president that she had arranged her son’s marriage but due to crop loss, not a penny was left with her, Chandrashekhar Rao announced an assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for her.

“Farmers should not lose hope. Let’s fight for water and 24 hour free power, besides Rythu Bandhu and farm loan waiver,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.

Dhan Singh, another farmer said during the BRS rule, ryots did not face any issues.

“We ruined the golden era enjoyed under your leadership. Like always, we hoped water supply through canals but the Congress government betrayed us and left in the lurch,” Singh said.

As Chandrashekhar Rao headed towards Suryapet, the police intercepted his vehicle as part of MCC checking at Idulaparre Thanda check post. He later reached to Velugupally under Thungaturthy constituency and inspected the damaged crops. All along the route, people sporting pink scarfs and holding placards, demanding crop loss compensation, greeted the BRS Chief.

US drones violate Afghanistan's airspace: Taliban

File photo of an American MQ-9 Reaper drone

The Taliban government says unmanned aerial vehicles belonging to the United States have been spotted violating the airspace over two of Afghanistan’s southern provinces.

Zabihullah Mujahid provided the information to Afghanistan’s TOLOnews agency on Saturday, specifying the provinces in question as Kandahar and Nimroz.

“These aircraft undoubtedly belong to the US, flying and crossing from the airspace of some neighboring countries into Afghanistan,” he said.

“Everyone should understand their responsibilities in this matter and stop the aggression,” Mujahid added.

Kabul had repeatedly protested the matter, he said, adding that Washington had to take the issue seriously.

Mujahid also criticized some of the country’s neighbors for allowing the US to use their airspace to fly the aircraft into Afghanistan’s skies.

“Unfortunately, Afghanistan lacks air defense forces and radar, so any country that wishes can violate Afghanistan’s airspace,” the agency cited Sarwar Niazi, a military expert, as saying.

The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the banner of “war on terror.”

The invasion that toppled the Taliban was followed by the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Afghan civilians and displacement of millions of others.

The Taliban stormed back to power in August 2021 after making sweeping advances across the country, which triggered a messy withdrawal by US-led foreign forces as well as rapid collapse of the country’s security forces.

Virat Kohli's Text To Owners After RCB Clinched WPL Title Wins Internet

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Kate Cross revealed that it was Virat Kohli‘s idea to honour the franchise’s women’s team after their Women’s Premier League (WPL) triumph earlier this month. RCB defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 8 wickets in the final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, winning the franchise their first-ever silverware. Cross, who didn’t play a single game, revealed that it was Kohli who texted the owners to ‘honour the girls’ at the RCB Unbox event on March 19.

“The owner got the text from Virat Kohli saying, we should honour the girls on Sunday,” Cross told BBC.

During the RCB Unbox event, the men’s team gave the women’s team a guard of honour, showing their appreciation for their achievements.

In the WPL final, all-rounder Sophie Molineux won the Player of the Match award for taking three wickets.

Meanwhile, Kohli won the Player of the Match award in RCB’s game against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The former RCB captain Kohli produced a quality half-century on a slightly gummy pitch.

Kohli (77, 49b, 11×4, 2×6) conducted it to near-perfection as RCB made 178 for six with four balls to spare to register their first win of this IPL.

RCB needed 47 from 24 balls from that point Dinesh Karthik (28 not out off 10 balls) and ‘Impact Player’ Mahipal Lomror (17 not out, 8 balls)carried them past the rope with some sensible cricket. Karthik team’s designated finisher showed that he can seamlessly switch from microphone to willow as he walloped Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh with minimum fuss to finish it in style.

Kohli’s innings was not a blemish free effort as he received reprieves on the very first ball on zero and then when he was on 33, and on both the times pacer Sam Curran was the aggrieved party.

Kohli registered a unique record during the match. The opener completed his 100th T20 fifty-plus score, becoming the first Indian and overall only third player to do so.

In the match, the 35-year-old was back at his vintage best following a disappointing game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

All You Need To Know About Viral "Click Here" Trend On Social Media

All You Need To Know About Viral 'Click Here' Trend On Social Media

Since last Saturday, X (formerly Twitter) has been flooded with the viral “Click Here” trend, catching everyone’s attention. While many have been joining the bandwagon of this buzzing trend, numerous others remain puzzled about the new feature.

Notably, major political parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party, and Congress have also actively engaged in the trend through their official X pages.

What is the “Click Here” trend all about?

This new trend has thousands of users sharing images featuring a stark white backdrop with the bold, black declaration “Click here” emblazoned across it.

The text is accompanied by a diagonally downward arrow, pointing to “ALT” text or alternative text on the bottom left corner of the picture.

The “ALT” text is a feature by X that helps its users add descriptions to the photos that they share on the platform.

Let us take a look at a few examples:

Some users also confessed that they were unable to understand this trend. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote, “What is the click here pic story? My timeline is full of it!”

What is the use of the feature and why Twitter created it?

The Click Here feature is meant to help visually impaired users understand the image better, with the help of text-to-speech recognition and Braille language.

The “ALT” text was introduced by the platform back in 2016 when the social media company was still known as Twitter.

Announcing the feature Twitter in its blog, in 2016, stated, “Photos have been at the center of some of the biggest moments on Twitter. As a core part of the Twitter experience, it’s important that images shared on our platform are accessible to everyone, including those who are visually impaired.”

It added, “Starting today, people using our iOS and Android apps can add descriptions — also known as alternative text (alt text) — to images in Tweets. With this update, we’re empowering everyone to ensure content shared on Twitter is accessible to the widest possible audience.”

“The Alt text is supposed to contain a textual description of what the image contains, to help the visually impaired people understand what the image is about. So, using that text for anything else is a misuse of that feature and goes against web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG),” a user, wrote while explaining the feature.

How to use this feature?

The blog post also explained that this feature can be enabled by using “the compose image descriptions option” in the app.

The statement continued, “Enable this feature by using the compose image descriptions option in the Twitter app’s accessibility settings. The next time you add an image to a Tweet, each thumbnail in the composer will have an add description button. Tap it to add a description to the image. People who are visually impaired will have access to the description via their assistive technology (e.g., screen readers and braille displays). Descriptions can be up to 420 characters.”

Pro-Palestine protesters chain themselves to US warship heading to Gaza

A group of pro-Palestine American protesters chained themselves to a US warship on Friday to block the vessel from transporting weapons and military equipment to Israel amid the occupying regime’s genocidal war on Gaza.

Some 800 demonstrators gathered in a San Francisco port, where the USNS Harvey Milk was docked before heading to the Israeli-occupied territories.

Photos and videos posted on social media showed eight protesters standing on the ship’s gangway, chanting, “Palestine will live forever,” as some chained themselves to the gangway to block the vessel from transporting supplies, according to CBS News.

The demonstrators had earlier flocked to the streets in San Francisco, with the rally’s coordinators, which include the Arab Resource Organizing Center (AROC) and the Palestinian Youth Movement, voicing their strong opposition to Washington’s untrammeled support to Israel by providing the illegal entity with financial and logistical support during its brutal aggression on Gaza.

Holding signs and banners in support of Palestinians, the American protesters chanted “Free, Free Palestine,” and called for a ceasefire in Gaza as well as an end to the US-funded arming of Israel.

“It is outrageous and unacceptable that our government continues to fund and supply the Israeli military as it carries out genocide against the people of Gaza,” Lara Kiswani, AROC’s executive director, said in a news release.

Local reports said 14 protesters were arrested by police in the mass rally and a media event scheduled to be held by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was canceled due to the protests.

“The clear majority of people in the country–and across the world–are opposed to Israel’s war in Palestine,” Kiswani added in the news release. “Rather than celebrate this vessel’s participation in Israel’s violations of human rights and international law, Rep. Pelosi needs to represent her constituents and join the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire now.”

The rally was staged after US media reported of President Joe Biden’s authorization of the delivery of “billions of dollars” worth of arms to Israel amid the Gaza war.

“President Biden has in recent days authorized the transfer of billions of dollars in bombs and warplanes to Israel, although Washington expresses concern about a possible military attack on Rafah, south of Gaza,” The Washington Post reported, citing Pentagon and State Department officials.

The newspaper said the new weapons batches include more than 1,800 2,000-pound MK84 bombs and 500 500-pound MK82 bombs.

“The provision of new military aid to Israel shows that even though there is a divergence of views between the United States and Israel on the continuation of the war in Gaza, the Biden administration nevertheless does not associate military aid to Israel to the actions of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” the US daily stressed.

Israel began hostilities in Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The regime has also cut off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Israel has killed more than 32,500 Palestinians and injured nearly 75,000 others in Gaza since the October day.

According to the UN, the ongoing Israeli genocide has resulted in the internal displacement of 85% of Gaza’s population, who are now facing severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Additionally, the UN reports that 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been either damaged or completely destroyed.

Sunita Kejriwal read out her husband Arvind Kejriwal’s message at the Opposition rally

At a massive rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan where leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc including Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Mehbooba Mufti, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav, among others, attended, Sunita Kejriwal read out a message sent by her jailed husband.

“The people of India stand with Arvind Kejriwal. He can’t be kept in jail forever,” Sunita Kejriwal said today in her first major political speech ever in front of hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters.

“I am not asking for votes from you. I am not asking you to help defeat someone in elections. I am only asking 140 crore Indians to help in taking this country forward,” Sunita Kejriwal said, quoting her husband’s message from jail.

BRS leader Kadiyam Srihari, daughter join Congress

The development came two days after the Congress leaders invited the father-daughter duo to join the ruling party.

BRS leader Kadiyam Srihari, daughter join Congress

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader and MLA Kadiyam Srihari, along with his daughter Kadiyam Kavya, joined the Congress party here on Sunday.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi welcomed them into the party.

The development came two days after the Congress leaders invited the father-daughter duo to join the ruling party.

Srihari, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, made the decision after a meeting with the followers.

Srihari was elected to the Assembly from Station Ghanpur constituency in the recent elections. His daughter was declared BRS candidate for Warangal Lok Sabha seat but on March 28, she announced her decision to opt out of the contest.

It was immediately not clear if Congress will field Srihari or his daughter for Warangal Lok Sabha seat

While withdrawing from contest for Warangal Lok Sabha seat, Kavya wrote to BRS chief KCR that the allegations of corruption, encroachments, phone tapping and liquor scam against party leaders have damaged the party’s image. She also mentioned that lack of coordination and cooperation among BRS leaders in the district caused more damage to the party.

BRS had decided to field Kavya after denying ticket to sitting MP Pasunuri Dayakar. Peeved over this, Dayakar joined the Congress party.

Dayakar was elected in 2015 by-election and in 2019, from Warangal, a seat reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Srihari, a prominent SC leader who started his political journey in the 1980s with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), had also served as a minister in the Cabinets of N. T. Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu in combined Andhra Pradesh. He had also served as TDP General Secretary and Politburo member.

A four-time MLA from Station Ghanpur in Warangal district, he joined TRS (now BRS) in 2013.

He was elected to Lok Sabha from Warangal on TRS ticket in 2014, but the next year, BRS president and then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inducted him into the Cabinet as Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister.

“For various reasons, people are moving away from BRS. To serve the people and do something for the constituency, we have to take a call,” Srihari had said two days ago after meeting Deepa Dasmunshi and other leaders.

Srihari and his daughter joined Congress a day after Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal of BRS joined the ruling party.

Vijayalaxmi is daughter of BRS General Secretary and MP K. Keshava Rao, who has also decided to join the Congress party.

Bharat Ratna LK Advani shattered many stereotypes, breached boundaries in Indian politics

The nation’s highest civilian award was given to Advani at his official residence on Easter Sunday, the day the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was formed in 1980.

Bharat Ratna LK Advani shattered many stereotypes, breached boundaries in Indian politics

New Delhi: The gates of 30 Prithviraj Road in Delhi on Sunday opened to welcome President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, and a host of other dignitaries to script a glorious chapter in the life and times of 96-year-old former Deputy Prime Minister, Lal Krishna Advani, by conferring the Bharat Ratna award on the BJP stalwart.

Coincidentally, the nation’s highest civilian award was given to Advani at his official residence on Easter Sunday, the day the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was formed in 1980.

Those who have known Advani closely have often heard an interesting anecdote.

The Jan Sangh, which had merged with the Janata Party in 1976 separated from it because of the bickering noises over “dual membership” (continued alignment with the RSS despite being in Janata Party) on April 4, 1980, on Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. And it came in a new avatar, re-christened as the Bharatiya Janata Party, on April 6, 1980, on Easter Sunday, the day celebrated for Jesus’ resurrection.

Advani, along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was the founder of the BJP. And the symbolism of it was never missed by him.

India and Indian politics has always been stigmatised by caste, region, social background etc. And Advani’s story is unique for the BJP and for contemporary Indian political history — breaking many stereotypes.

From being a non-Hindi speaking Sindhi studying in the Christian missionary — St Patrick’s School in Karachi, and yet opting for the RSS, migrating to India from Pakistan post the Partition, gradually rising up the ladder in the organisation, transforming the shape of Indian politics through his Ram Rath Yatra in 1990, to unleashing the biggest public mobilisation and debate in Independent India — Advani’s long political career has been unique.

The quintessential charioteer not only took out his Yatra for the construction of a ‘Bhavya’ Ram temple at the perceived Ram Janmabhoomi site in Ayodhya, but also challenged the existing political and so-called intellectual system with the coinage of words like ‘pseudo-secularism’, ‘appeasement politics’, ‘cultural nationalism’, differentiating between ‘Swaraj’ (independence) and ‘Suraj’ (good governance), etc.

Incidentally, Narendra Modi, the incumbent Prime Minister for 10 years, then as a young party leader was the organiser of the first leg of Advani’s Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya, making it a huge success from the starting point itself.

Narendra Modi was also with Advani when the latter was arrested a month later by Lalu Prasad after the Yatra reached Sitamarhi in Bihar and was about to cross the border to Uttar Pradesh. The arrest made the BJP bring down the V.P. Singh government at the Centre.

It marked two things.

First, a first-of-its-kind backroom arrangement of two ideological extremes, the BJP and the CPI (M)-led Left Front coming together to support a coalition government falling apart.

Second, the subsequent turn of events which forced the parliamentary elections in 1992 in a span of less than three years to benefit the BJP.

In the first elections after the formation of the BJP in 1984, held in the immediate aftermath of the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the party got only two Lok Sabha seats as opposed to Congress’ 400-plus tally.

There were many who would tell him, “Advani ji, dukan badh kar do (shut the shop).”

But it’s a saga of tremendous grit, hard work, vision, and ability to reinvent on the part of the Vajpayee-Advani duo that the BJP marched on to break new barriers and breach social and geographical boundaries.

With Advani at the helm of the organisation as the party President (longest serving), the BJP in 1989 catapulted to 86 seats. In the 1992 elections, the tally swelled further to 121 seats.

Post the Ram Rath Yatra, Advani’s popularity was at its peak among the masses and within the Sangh Parivar as the most acceptable face in the BJP. Yet, at a party convention in Mumbai in 1995, he abruptly made a declaration that Vajpayee should be the Prime Minister, and not him, if the BJP gets the right numbers to form the government at the Centre.

The announcement caught the party leaders and workers by complete surprise.

The 1996 elections were a landmark moment for the BJP when it became the single-largest party with 161 seats. This was the time when the first BJP-led government was formed at the Centre with Vajpayee as the Prime Minister and Advani as the Home Minister. But the government lasted for just 13 days.

The experience made Advani go and look for allies by the time the next elections took place, as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance came into existence.

In 1998, the BJP increased its numbers in the Lok Sabha to 182, as the NDA 1.0 came to power for a longer term. The rest is history.

There perhaps couldn’t have been a better occasion for Advani and his admirers than this — Prime Minister Modi announcing Bharat Ratna for him just ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the ‘Mandir Wahin Banayenge’ dream coming true, and the award conferred on him on this momentous day, on which 44 years ago he played a most instrumental role in forming the BJP.

Can't Trust Congress That "Callously" Gave Away Key Island To Lanka: PM Modi

Can't Trust Congress That 'Callously' Gave Away Key Island To Lanka: PM Modi

PM Modi called the new revelations about the Katchatheevu Island “eye-opening” (File/AFP)

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cited a media report today to assert that new facts reveal that the Congress had “callously” given away the Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka.

“Eye-opening and startling! New facts reveal how Congress callously gave away Katchatheevu. This has angered every Indian and reaffirmed in people’s minds – we can’t ever trust Congress,” he said on X, sharing the report.

“Weakening India’s unity, integrity and interests has been Congress’ way of working for 75 years and counting,” he said.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that the decision of the then Congress government at the Centre is why Tamil Nadu fishermen are captured and imprisoned by Lankans as they wander to the island, just 25 km off the state’s coast.

The island was with India till 1975, he said. Tamil Nadu’s fishermen would go there earlier but India’s agreement with Lanka barred them from doing so, he added.

Unfortunately, neither the DMK nor the Congress is raising the issue but PM Modi because he is committed to the country and its people, he said.

The BJP is hopeful that the issue will help the party gain political traction in the Dravidian territory ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, more so as it involves neighbouring Sri Lanka whose treatment of its Tamil people has long been a charged political issue in the state.

The report is based on an RTI reply Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai received on the decision of Indira Gandhi’s government in 1974 to hand over the territory in the Palk Strait to the island country.

The report also cited first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s saying that he would have no hesitation in giving up claims to the island. The issue has been a source of dispute between India and Lanka.

In a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Mr Trivedi asked why he is silent on the issue and said he should tell people that his party and his family are responsible for this.
