Nepal Mayor's Daughter Disappears From Goa Retreat, Found 2 Days Later

Aarti Hamal had been staying at an Osho meditation centre in Goa for the past few months.

New Delhi:

A 36-year-woman from Nepal, the daughter of a mayor in India’s neighbouring nation, who had gone missing on Monday has been found, police said. She was found at a hotel in North Goa’s Mandrem, authorities said.

Her father Gopal Hamal had said that his elder daughter Aarti has been missing since Monday, following which Goa police registered a case and launched a search operation.

Aarti Hamal had been staying at an Osho meditation centre in Goa for the past few months. She was last seen near Ashwem Beach, her father said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Gopal Hamal, the mayor of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city, said that they received a message from Aarti’s friend that she had lost contact with her. When the family tried to reach her, they got no response and alerted the police.

“My elder daughter Aarti is an Osho meditator and has been living in Goa for the past few months. However, I received a message from her friend stating that she lost contact with Aarti near Zorba Beach, Ashwem yesterday. I request those living in Goa to assist in the search for my daughter, Aarti,” Mr Hamal said.

“Also, my younger daughter Arzoo and son-in-law are flying to Goa tonight to look for our elder daughter Aarti,” he added.

Her sister, Arzoo Hamal, also posted an update on Facebook saying that some callers had claimed to have seen Aarti at a bridge near Siolim.

“Some of the people have been very helpful and we are eternally grateful to them. According to some callers she was last spotted at a bridge near Siolim. Few of them believe that she was taken to a hospital from there in an ambulance as she was found unconscious while the others have been saying that she was taken to the police station,” Arzoo said in a Facebook post.

“But nothing has really been clear so far. An FIR has been logged and we are hoping to find my sister soon,” she added.

Six killed in suicide attack on Chinese engineers in Pakistan

This was the third major attack on Chinese interests in the South Asian country in a week.

The first two attacks targeted a Pakistan naval air base and a strategic port used by China in the southwest province of Balochistan where Beijing is investing billions in infrastructure projects.

The engineers were en route from Islamabad to their camp at the dam construction site in Dasu in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, regional police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur said.

“Five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack,” Gandapur told Reuters.

No one claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack.

IRGC military advisor martyred in Syria

Media outlets on Tuesday reported that the US army targeted areas in Syria’s Deir ez-Zur, Al Mayadin, and Al Bukamal early on that day. The United States later denied carrying out airstrikes on Syria on that night.

Some other reports suggest that the airstrikes on eastern Syria were conducted by the Israeli regime.

The Iranian advisors, who are present in Syria at the official invitation of the Syrian government, have played an important role in helping the Syrians fight terrorism and help establish peace, stability, and lasting security in this country.

Iraq's Islamic Resistance targets 2 Israeli military bases

Issuing a statement on Tuesday night, the Iraqi Resistance group said that its forces have targeted the Israeli regime’s Ovda Airbase in northern occupied Palestine with drones.

In a separate statement early on Wednesday, the Resistance group said that it had targeted another Israeli military base in occupied Palestine.

Since the start of the al-Aqsa Storm operation on the 7th of last October, the occupied port of Eilat has been targeted several times by the Yemeni forces and the Islamic Resistance of Iraq to declare support for the oppressed people of Gaza.

Israel waged its brutal war on besieged Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out an unprecedented operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

At least seven medical staff killed in Israeli strike on southern Lebanon

At least seven people have been killed when Israeli warplanes bombed an emergency center in southern Lebanon near the border with the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories with air-to-surface missiles, according to Lebanese security sources.

Two sources, speaking on condition of anonymity said early on Wednesday that the strike targeted the Islamic Group’s emergency and relief center in Lebanon’s southern village of Habbariyeh.

Jamaa Islamiya, a Lebanese group closely linked to the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said in a statement that “a number” of people had been killed, and called the strike a “heinous crime.”

An official from the group said “seven rescuers” were killed in the aerial assault.

Another Jamaa Islamiya official, also requesting anonymity, said a dozen medical staff were in the emergency center at the time of the strike, adding that bodies were being pulled from the rubble.

Lebanese lawmaker Hassan Mrad said “the Israeli aggression on Habbariyeh adds to the long list of Israeli crimes.”

Israel has been launching air strikes against Lebanon since the beginning of its onslaught against the Gaza Strip in early October.

An Israeli strike knocked down part of a building in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatiyeh on February 14, killing seven members of the same family, including a child, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said. A boy initially reported missing was found alive under the rubble.

In a separate Israeli attack, a woman and her two children were killed in the village of as-Sawana in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli regime launched its devastating hostilities in the Gaza Strip on October 7 after the territory’s Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.

Israel’s raids have resulted in retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the Tel Aviv regime continues its onslaught on Gaza.

The Israeli campaign in Gaza has killed at least 32,414 people, most of them women and children. Another 74,787 individuals have also been wounded.

"If You Change Captain…": Afridi's Blunt Message To PCB On Shaheen

File photo of Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has come out in defence of his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi following speculation that the tall pace bowler was going to be removed as the national T20 captain. “I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well,” Afridi told the media on Tuesday. “The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket,” said Afridi.

Afridi remarked that Shaheen should be given adequate time to prove himself.

“If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong,” he added.

Afridi was seen as one of the main driving forces behind the appointment of Shaheen as the national T20 captain after last year’s ODI World Cup India. Babar Azam was removed as the white-ball captain after Pakistan failed to advance beyond the league stages. The skipper then stepped down in the red-ball format.

Afridi also backed the appointment of a foreign coach but said he should be a high-profile person like Andy Flower, who has a great track record.

“I believe that even if you bring in a foreign coach, the staff under him should be Pakistani so that our people can also move forward and improve their skills,” he said.

Asked about the decision to include Imad Wasim and Muhammad Amir in the national training camp, Afridi felt it would have been better to first assess their fitness.

“But I can tell you that if they can come through this two-week training camp in Kakul they will be supermen,” he said.

Amir, back from retirement after 2020, has also backed Shaheen as T20 captain.

He tweeted, “Shaheen is not bad and I think he should be given time to prove his credentials.”
