NCP's ''Tutari' Symbol Hits Wrong Note With Players Of Instrument

'Tutari' Symbol Of Sharad Pawar's NCP Hits Wrong Note With Players Of Instrument

A ‘Tutari’ player said they were earlier called for election rallies of all political parties.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra):

With the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar being allotted ‘man blowing tutari‘ as its election symbol, the players of this traditional instrument fear that they may lose their business this year as the general elections and the marriage season are coinciding.

They are apprehensive that since the model code of conduction is in force, they may not be hired to play ‘tutaris‘ at weddings or other events this year.

‘Tutari’, a crescent or C-shaped instrument, is played on certain occasions as a sign of welcome. Earlier, it used to be played to announce the arrival of kings.

Talking to PTI, Jaisingh Holiye, who is in the business of providing ‘tutari’ players for functions here, said it is a traditional instrument and is played during marriage ceremonies and other events.

“But this year, the Lok Sabha elections and the marriage season are coinciding. We fear that we may lose business,” he said.

Baburao Gurav, a ‘tutari’ player residing in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city, said, “Political parties have different election symbols made of objects or articles used in our daily lives. We can’t avoid those things. But we are not sure where a ‘tutari’ should be played at marriages and other family events due to its connection with a prominent political party.”

“So we may lose business at political events. Tutari players are generally called at election rallies by all political parties. But since our musical instrument has now become a symbol of one political party, we fear that we may lose orders from political parties. As the model code of conduct is in place, people may also think of not calling us for cultural and family events,” he said.

There is no clarity about the places where it should be played, Gurav added.

“If both the parties in marriage ceremonies are ready, we will play. If anyone raises objections we will stop playing the instrument,” he said.

The NCP split in July 2022 after a group of party leaders led by Baramati MLA Ajit Pawar, nephew of party founder Sharad Pawar, joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government. The Election Commission later recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the real NCP and allotted it the clock symbol. The Sharad Pawar-led camp was given the poll symbol of ‘man playing tutari‘ and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) as its name.

Teen’s skeleton found a year after he went missing in UP village

Police officials said on Wednesday that the family members confirmed the identity of the deceased after seeing the clothes on the skeleton.

Hamirpur: The skeleton of an 18-year-old male, who had gone missing from home four days before Holi in 2023, has been recovered from the jungle area near his village, in Uttar Pradesh‘s Hamirpur district.

Police officials said on Wednesday that the family members confirmed the identity of the deceased after seeing the clothes on the skeleton. The skeleton and the clothes have been sent for a post-mortem and forensic examination to confirm the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.

Hamirpur circle officer (CO) of Maudaha, Shreyas Tripathi said that the boy, identified as Arvind Kumar a.k.a Bauwa, son of Chandrapal Ahirwar, had gone missing under mysterious circumstances on March 4, nearly four days before Holi on March 8, 2023.

He said that the victim’s father had informed the police about his disappearance on March 6, 2023, but the police had failed to find him.

“The skeleton was discovered by the deceased’s father when he had gone to bring sticks and wood from the jungle along with another person of the village. He immediately informed the police suspecting the skeleton to be of his missing son after seeing clothes on it,” the CO said and added that two packets of Holi colour and packets of Pan Masala were found from the pocket of the trouser on the skeleton”.

He said it is a little surprising that the father discovered the remains of his son after a year. He said the family members had raised suspicion over four people of their village behind the boy’s murder.

Karimnagar: Amid water shortage, farmers dig pits in canal to draw groundwater

Karimnagar: Amid water shortage, farmers dig pits in canal to draw groundwater

Karimnagar: With a severe shortage of water for their crops continuing with no sign of help from the official machinery, farmers in the district, who sowed crops alongside the flood flow canal of the Sriram Sagar Project, are now digging pits in the canal itself to extract groundwater. They are then arranging motors to take the water to their fields.

Farmers from Gangadhara, Ramadugu, Mallial, Boinpalli mandals of Choppadandi and other areas are among those who are arranging excavators to dig the pits. Though different crops such as paddy, maize and others were sowed, a major portion of the area is covered with paddy. Since the crop is in its crucial and final stage, it needs sufficient water to get a good yield. So the farmers are leaving no stone unturned to supply water to the crop and are digging pits, mostly upto 30 feet depth and about 15 m wide in the canal.

It takes five hours to dig such pits, with the excavator owners charging Rs.2,000 per hour. To share the expenses, four to five farmers are forming a group and engaging the excavators.

The flood flow canal is actually meant to carry surplus water from the SRSP project during floods to the Mid Manair Dam. Though there is no system to supply water to agricultural fields through distributaries, farmers draw water from the canal by arranging motors. En route, thousands of acres have been cultivated on either sides of the canal in Nizamabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Rajanna-Sircilla districts.

For the first time in the last seven to eight years, there was no water supply into the canal. Moreover, agricultural wells as well as borewells dried up following the depletion of the groundwater table drastically, leading to a major agrarian crisis, the kind of those that Telangana has not seen for quite a long time. Speaking to Telangana Today, a farmer from Kurmapalle of Ramadugu mandal, Chimalla Pochaiaha said that every year, they used to draw water from the canal and sow crops. However, there was no water in the canal this year. To overcome this problem, they were digging pits in the canal to extract water by arranging motors. If a pit was dug, they were able to draw water for five days. After five days, they have to dig another pit a little away, he said.

Watch: Bandi Sanjay’s visit to Chengicherla triggers tension; BJP workers clash with police

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in the Chengicherla area after BJP workers led by party general secretary Bandi Sanjay broke police barricades and tried to meet victims of an alleged attack by local slaughterhouse workers on Wednesday. The slaughterhouse workers allegedly attacked tribal women and children during Holi festival for playing songs on a loudspeaker on Monday.

BJP workers, including women, gathered in large numbers at the basti where the tribal women were allegedly attacked and raised slogans against the government. The BJP workers clashed with police personnel and broke barricades. Sanjay took serious objection to the police personnel putting up barricades in the area where the incident took place. A heated argument broke out between Sanjay and police officials and he demanded them to immediately remove the barricades.

Since the BJP workers outnumbered the police personnel posted at the basti, they broke the barricades and barged into the colony. Sanjay interacted with the women who were injured in the incident and assured them help and protection.

Later speaking to the media, Sanjay demanded the government to take stringent action against the guilty. He accused the police of taking the side of the slaughterhouse management and of registering false cases against the poor tribal women. “The workers came to basti and attacked the women and children, hence cases should be booked against them, not the women,” he said.

A part of Air India Express plane’s wing fell on the runway, while the IndiGo flight’s wing was dented

New Delhi:

Two aircraft came dangerously close to each other on the runway in Kolkata this morning, in a narrow escape for hundreds of passengers.

A Darbhanga-bound IndiGo aircraft, taxiing at the Kolkata Airport, hit a stationary Air India Express flight waiting for clearance to enter the runway. A part of the Air India Express aircraft’s wing that was hit fell on the runway, while the IndiGo aircraft’s wing was dented.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, has off-rostered both the IndiGo A320 VT-ISS pilots and ordered a detailed probe, reported news agency ANI.

“We have ordered a detailed investigation into the matter and both the pilots of IndiGo airlines have been off-rostered. The ground staff will also be questioned during the investigation. Both the flights have been grounded for detailed inspection,” a DGCA official said.

The IndiGo aircraft had 135 passengers on board, including four infants.

“A minor graze between a taxiing IndiGo aircraft and that of another carrier was reported from Kolkata Airport. The aircraft returned to the bay for inspection and necessary action, per protocol,” the low-cost carrier said, adding that an incident report has been filed with the aviation regulator DGCA.

“Consequently, IndiGo flight 6E 6152 between Kolkata and Darbhanga has been delayed,” it added. Refreshments were given to all passengers and an alternative aircraft was arranged.

“IndiGo prioritises passenger safety above all else. An incident report will be submitted to DGCA in due course,” the carrier said.

Speaking about the incident, an Air India Express spokesperson said, “The wingtip of a taxiing aircraft of another airline grazed one of our aircraft, which was stationary and awaiting clearance to enter the runway at Kolkata for a scheduled operation to Chennai. The aircraft has since returned to the bay and further investigation is underway, for which we are coordinating with the regulator and airport authorities. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to guests due to external circumstances.”

The Kolkata airport, in an incident report, said, “At 11:10 am, received information from ATC that one aircraft IX 1886 (VT-TGG) report wingtip vortices hit. Observed wingtip vortices of aircraft IX 1886 are missing and wingtip vortices of aircraft 6E 6152 have dents.”

Hyderabad: Skill Development Centre of the School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been granted funding of Rs. 17.76 lakh from the Science Academies’ Education Programme to conduct summer School for the underprivileged students. An additional amount of Rs.10 lakh is also expected to meet the expenditure for consumables.

Belgian farmers clash with police during protests against EU's policies

Belgian farmers have clashed with the police amid protest against the European Union’s policies in this area, on the eve of the meeting of the bloc’s agriculture ministers.

The farmers sprayed manure towards police officers on Tuesday, prompting the authorities to retaliate with water cannons and tear gas during a demonstration prior to a meeting of 27 EU agriculture ministers set to address the crisis in the industry.

The farmers expressed their discontent with what they perceive as an abundance of bureaucratic regulations, heightened environmental requirements, inexpensive imported goods, and unjust trading policies.

They blocked the streets of the Belgian capital near the EU headquarters to protest what they called extreme stoning, tough environmental measures and a flood of duty-free Ukrainian imports into Europe.

“Let’s make money from our profession” read a placard mounted on a tractor that blocked the main road covered with potatoes, eggs, manure and straw.

On Tuesday, Belgian farmers drove tractors into the capital Brussels, near the EU Commission building, to protest the bloc’s agricultural policy and low income, local media reported.

According to the Brussels Times two officers were injured during the farmers’ clash with the police.

Farmers across Europe have been protesting for months in response to the EU’s strict environmental policies, including cutting subsidies. The protesters also demanded to stop the import of cheap agricultural products from Ukraine.
