30 lakh people from other States working in Hyderabad: Vinod Kumar


Karimnagar: BRS leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar said about 30 lakh people from other States were working in Hyderabad by learning skill development courses. This waa due to the initiatives taken by the previous BRS government.

Though the BJP has four MPs, they failed to sanction more Navodaya schools to the State.

Vinod Kumar along with MLC Deshipathi Srinivas and former MLA Rasamai Balkishan participated in Manakondur constituency level BRS student and youth awareness programme held at Alugunur on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he informed that the core concepts of the separate State agitation such as water, funds and jobs were fulfilled after achieving the State.

Irrigation water was supplied to one crore acres by completing Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy projects on Godavari and Krishna rivers respectively after achieving a separate state.

Besides bringing funds for the development of Telangana, 1.61 lakh government jobs were also filled and exams were conducted to recruit 30,000 jobs during the BRS tenure.

Pointing out how power cuts began after the Congress came to power in the State, he said the Congress, which came to power by promising six guarantees, had cheated the public.

On BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, he said nothing would happen if Sanjay Kumar was not there in the 400 MPs predicted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sanjay Kumar could not get a Navodaya school nor a skill development centre for Karimnagar, he said.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in their Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.

Set a target of 163, GT completed the chase with five balls remaining. Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 45, while David Miller and Shubman Gill chipped in with knocks of 44 and 36 respectively.

After Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat, most of their batters got starts but failed to convert them into big scores, as the team was stopped at 162/8. Heinrich Klaasen blasted 24 off 13 balls before missing a straighter one from leg-spinner Rashid Khan to be bowled at a crucial juncture.

Abhishek Sharma got 29 in 20 balls.

Abdul Samad (29 off 14 balls) struck a few useful boundaries to prop up SRH, having gone after the GT bowlers from the outset.

Mohit Sharma (3/25) picked up two wickets in two balls in the last over from which only three runs came.

King Charles Attends Easter Sunday Church Service

Britain’s King Charles III attended an Easter church service on Sunday, in his most high-profile public appearance since revealing a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, arrived by car for the hour-long late morning service at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle, west of London.

The 75-year-old, dressed in a suit and light blue tie, smiled and waved to crowds — who had queued up for hours for a glimpse of the ailing monarch — before he entered the chapel.

Leaving the service, King Charles and Camilla greeted some of the well-wishers lined up outside, shaking hands and briefly chatting to some in the crowds.

Attending the annual religious ceremony is a long-standing annual tradition for the royals, with other family members in attendance Sunday.

But heir-to-the-throne Prince William and his wife Catherine were notable absentees this year, as the 42-year-old Princess of Wales receives treatment following her own cancer diagnosis which was revealed just last week.

The situation represents an unprecedented crisis in modern times for the monarchy, as two of its most senior members simultaneously fight serious illness.

King Charles was just 17 months into his long-awaited reign when Buckingham Palace announced in early February that he had cancer and would be pausing all public-facing engagements as he commenced treatment.

He had been admitted for surgery for a benign prostate condition in January but was subsequently diagnosed with an unrelated cancer. The type of cancer has not been disclosed.

The king has been continuing with behind-the-scenes work and holding some in-person meetings and increasingly attending official events.

This week he released a pre-recorded Easter audio message — broadcast in his absence at a Maundy Thursday service in Worcester Cathedral, central England — stressing the importance of acts of friendship.

The monarch was also photographed receiving community and faith leaders at Buckingham Palace in central London on Tuesday.

Meanwhile last week, photos showed him meeting diplomats at the palace, as well as veterans of the Korean War, at two separate engagements.

King Charles said in a statement earlier this month that he would continue to serve “to the best of my ability”, and he had been “deeply touched” by people’s wishes for his health.

He praised Kate, as she is widely known, for her bravery last week by revealing in a video message that she was undergoing chemotherapy.

She was last seen at a public engagement on December 25, then underwent abdominal surgery in January, after which cancer was found.

Her Kensington Palace office said at the time that she was not expected to be ready to return to public duties until after Easter.

Wine Shop Salesman Killed For Refusing Liquor After Midnight In Noida: Cops

Noida:

A wine shop salesman in Greater Noida was assaulted and shot dead allegedly by three unidentified young men who demanded liquor from him at around 2 am on Sunday but were denied, police said.

The incident took place at the authorized wine shop located at New Haibatpur village under Bisrakh police station area and the killed has been identified as Hari Om, a native of Amroha district in western Uttar Pradesh, they said.

“Around 2 am, three boys landed up at the shop, which was closed at the time. However, they went to the rear side of the shop and started banging a door there, demanding liquor be sold to them. The rear opens into a small residential locality. The salesman refused their demand which led to a fight between them,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Suniti said.

“Among those boys, one of them had a country-made pistol, which was used to open fire and a bullet hit the salesman after which the trio fled the spot. By then, the colleagues of the salesman gathered there and rushed Hari Om to a hospital where he died during treatment,” the DCP said.

Suniti said police officers reached the spot for inspection after being alerted and an investigation has been launched into the case.

“The CCTV footage and other surveillance cameras installed at the location and nearby are being analyzed to trace the culprits. We have been able to get hold of some useful information about the accused, which is being developed further,” she said.

An FIR is being lodged in the case and further legal proceedings, including the post-mortem examination, are being carried out, she added.

NSP safety evaluation: Geophysical investigation on cards

Hyderabad: The Irrigation Department is weighing the option of conducting a geophysical investigation on the Nagarjuna Sagar project as part of a comprehensive dam safety evaluation mandated by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).

The Irrigation Department officials have planned to take up the exercise in coordination with all the stake-holders including the Krishna River Management Board as well as the Department of Water Resources, Andhra Pradesh.

The NDSA team which visited the project in the second week of February wanted irrigation authorities of the State to speed up the maintenance works so that they could be completed well before the onset of the monsoon.

But certain structural issues observed in the project have to be addressed on permanent basis on the 57-year-old major irrigation project.

The government of Telangana which was in operational control of the project, was taking care of the maintenance work year after year as it was tasked with the responsibility, while AP was expected to attend on the upkeep and maintenance of the Srisailam project.

But the system in place for the implementation of the NSP maintenance was upset because of the confrontation between the two States at the dam site late last year.

Though the government of AP sought to implement the maintenance works on its own, covering its part of the 26 crest gates and head regulators, the task was finally entrusted again to the Irrigation Department of Telangana.

The anomalies observed on the dam can be addressed only after a thorough investigation of the structure in toto, said a senior official of the department.

He explained that the geo-physical methods used in the investigation of dams were yielding better results. The geophysical investigation process has been a cost effective option too.

Considerable advancement has taken place over the years to geophysical investigation methods and their acceptability over geo-technical methods.

Efforts are on to coordinate with the river management authority (KRMB) and the water resources department wing concerned in the Government of AP. No progress in cracks.

The NDSA team had observed cracks on some piers of the dam and they needed repairs. Issues on the spillway reported by the NDSA team were to be addressed immediately.

But as the State Irrigation Department officials put it, there are no major issues that can be considered to be manifestation of structural concern.

Some hairline cracks were observed and marking of the cracks was already done in earnest. Some of the cracks were almost a decade old.

There is no progression in the size of the cracks for over a decade. Still such issues would be attended to on priority.

The NDSA team wanted clearance of grass and wild growth causing congestion in the downstream earthen embankment drains, which was already completed on war footing.

As suggested by the team, the replacement of instrumentation on the project was also in consideration, they added.

Taking a dig at ruling BJP, she said: “Those in power today call themselves Ram bhakts. When I was sitting here I thought that I should say something to them. I want to remind them of the 1,000-year-old tale and its message.When Lord Ram fought for truth, he did not have power, resources or even a chariot. Ravan had chariots, resources, army and gold but Lord Ram had truth, hope, belief, love, kindness, modesty, patience, courage and truth. I want to tell those in power that the message of Lord Ram’s life is that power is not permanent and arrogance gets shattered.”

The opposition INDIA bloc on Sunday urged the Election Commission to ensure a level-playing field in the Lok Sabha polls and asserted that despite the BJP creating “undemocratic obstacles”, the alliance is committed to fight, win and save the country’s democracy.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra read out the demands of the opposition alliance at the ‘Loktantra Bachao Rally’.

She said the Election Commission should ensure a level playing field for all parties in Lok Sabha elections.

The poll panel should stop the Enforcement Directorate, CBI and the Income Tax department’s actions against opposition parties being taken to adversely impact the elections, the Congress leader demanded, adding that former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal be immediately released.

During the elections, action to forcefully scuttle the finances of opposition parties should be immediately stopped, she said, reading out the INDIA bloc’s demands at the rally.

The opposition alliance also demanded that a Supreme Court-monitored SIT be set to probe, what they said, the BJP’s “extortion” of funds through the electoral bonds scheme.

Last month, the Supreme Court annulled the electoral bonds scheme for political funding, saying it violates the Constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression as well as the right to information.

Addressing the rally, Priyanka Gandhi said that despite the BJP creating “undemocratic obstacles”, the INDIA bloc was committed to fighting, winning, and saving democracy in India.

Members of Progress Recognised Teachers union (PRTU)-Telangana lodged a complaint with the DEO on March 28, exposing the teacher’s act.

Adilabad: Authorities of the education department drew flak for delaying in taking action against a teacher who allegedly went on a foreign tour without obtaining permission. The teacher in question, Mahender Yadav, reportedly toured Thailand from March 7 to 10 without obtaining a no objection certificate from the Directorate of School Education (DSE).

Members of Progress Recognised Teachers union (PRTU)-Telangana lodged a complaint with the DEO on March 28, exposing the teacher’s act. The Telanga United of Teachers Federation (TUTF) also took up the issue on March 23. Still, the officials have not initiated action against the teacher, they said.

PRTU-Telangana District president Noor Singh alleged that the DEO Pranitha had asked them to compromise with the teacher and to withdraw the complaint. Members of the teachers unions said the inaction by the officials was bringing disrepute to the department and teachers community as well.

The unions alleged that Mahender Yadav was selling alkaline water machines through a multi-level marketing mode by accepting commissions. He visited another country during the Dasara holidays in the past too.

DEO Pranitha was unavailable for comment.
