Hyderabad: “Today is February 1 and where is the much awaited Group 1 notification?” questioned BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and Manik Rao on Thursday.

Addressing a joint news conference at the Assembly media point, they reminded the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that as per the Congress job calendar, February 1 was the much-awaited day for the Group 1 aspirants. The Chief Minister appeared to have forgotten the commitment he had given to the jobless in the state, he should respond to the call of the jobless youths, they commented.

They said that the appointment letters given to the newly recruited nurses by the government was the outcome of the relentless efforts made by T Harish Rao as the Minister for Health. Uncertainty now looms large over the promises made to the people of the State by the Congress government as the Chief Minister had already made it clear that the promises would be implemented only if the Congress wins the Parliamentary polls. How long would it take Revanth Reddy to implement the party guarantees, he questioned.

Wishing all success to BRS Chief K Chandrashekhar rao, they said that the KCRs oath taking would mark opening of a new innings in his career. Under his leadership the BRS would strongly fight for the issues of the State, they asserted.

Wellington: New Zealand’s minimum wage rate will increase “moderately” to $14.12 an hour from April 1, the government said.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden on Thursday said the government is committed to striking the right balance between protecting the incomes of the lowest paid workers and maintaining labour market settings that encourage employment, Xinhua news agency reported.

The government has taken a cautious approach to the minimum wage this year as the economic context has changed significantly over the past year, van Velden said. While unemployment is currently low, the labour market is softening due to high net migration rates, constrained consumer spending and subdued economic growth, she said.

As a ratio to the median wage, the minimum wage has increased from 62 per cent of the median wage in June 2017 to 72 per cent in June 2023, which has made it harder for businesses to issue pay rises or take on more staff, said the minister.

However, the opposition Labor Party criticised the minimum wage increase as “tiny.” The minister said the increase has taken into consideration the current economic conditions and the historically large increases to the minimum wage that have distorted relativities with other wage-earners.

Training wages and starting wages will remain at 80 percent of the adult minimum wage rate.

UP Man Orders Buffalo Online. This Happens Next

Lucknow:

What do you do when your online orders don’t arrive on time? Contacting the customer helpline is perhaps the only option in such a scenario. But in Uttar Pradesh, it’s an order for a buffalo that has left a milk trader in dire straits.

Sunil Kumar, a dairy farmer in Rae Bareli, had ordered a buffalo after stumbling upon its video on YouTube.

He had contacted Kisan Bhaiyya Dairy Farm on a phone number mentioned in the video and spoke to Shubham, a Jaipur-based businessman, who assured him the buffalo was of good breed and produces 18 litres of milk every day.

Shubham also sent him a video of a buffalo, stating its price was Rs 55,000, and demanded an advance payment of Rs 10,000. The unsuspecting milk trader, who had decided to buy the buffalo, immediately transferred the amount.

Mr Kumar dialled the seller again when the buffalo was not delivered to him the next day, but was asked to transfer another Rs 25,000.

“But I didn’t make any further payment and felt I have been the victim of a fraud. He has now put my number on blacklist,” the milk trader told reporters.

Mr Kumar has filed a complaint with the police in this regard.

Hyderabad:  A maoist couple allegedly involved in extremist offences in Chhattisgarh, surrendered before police in Mulugu district of Telangana on Thursday, police said.

N Bheema alias Sanju, working as Section Commander of the second Central Reorganisation Committee (CRC) of the banned CPI (Maoist) party and his wife Muchaki Duldo alias Soni, Area Committee Member (ACM) in second CRC surrendered before Mulugu District Superintendent of Police, P Shabarish in order to join the mainstream and lead a normal life, they said.

The couple, both in their mid 20s, were carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh each on their head, police said.

Bheema, who belongs to Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana, worked as a militia member in the Cherla area of the district in 2019 and later he joined the second CRC of the CPI (Maoist) and was promoted to Section Commander in November 2022.

Soni joined the CPI(Maoist) in 2018 and later she attached herself to the second CRC and in December 2022 she was promoted to Area Committee Member.

According to police, the couple were involved in offences including Bechirakumadugu exchange of fire (EoF) of Elmidi police station limits of Bijapur district, Timmapur-Putkel attack in Basaguda police station limits of Bijapur district in February 2022, Kunded-Jagurugonda attack in Jagurugonda area and Terram attack in April 2021, in which several police personnel died.

On the reasons for the surrender, Mulugu District police said they (couple) decided to leave the CPI(Maoist) to lead a normal life as they did not like the discrimination going on in the party against their ideologies.

The couple alleged sexual harassments of female cadre members by top Maoists leaders, discrimination against lower cadres in providing food, asking them to wash senior leaders clothes and carry their bags, police said.

The police have asked all the UG cadres of the CPI (Maoist), who have got disillusioned with the party ideology to take advantage of the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy of the government and join the mainstream society in order to lead a peaceful life.

US has built up military stash for potential Taiwan war

According to US officials interviewed by the Reuters news agency, the war materiel was stashed during the Talisman Sabre exercises last July and August. The drills, which were held in and around Australia, involved more than 34,000 troops from 13 nations and focused on boosting combat readiness and logistical capabilities.

The equipment from the exercises included 330 vehicles and trailers and 130 containers stored in the southeastern part of Australia, Reuters reported. It added that in the event of a conflict, this would be enough to supply about three logistics companies with a combined strength of 500 or more soldiers. Alternatively, the equipment could be used during future drills or to deal with a potential natural disaster.

Numerous officials interviewed by the news agency cited logistics as a weak spot in the US military which China could exploit in the event of a conflict, potentially by bombing refueling ships and jet fuel depots. Such tactics, the officials warned, could allow Beijing to hamstring Washington without having to engage the bulk of US forces.

The Chinese Embassy in the US did not directly comment on the report, but told Reuters that Washington should “stop enhancing military contact with the Taiwan region” and “stop creating factors that could heighten tensions in the Taiwan Strait.”

The rift between the US and China over Taiwan has widened in recent months, fueled by Washington’s arms sales as well as visits by senior lawmakers to the self-governing island.

Beijing regards Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory, and has denounced US contact with Taipei as meddling in its internal affairs. President Xi Jinping has said China is seeking peaceful reunification with the island, although Beijing has not ruled out the use of force to achieve this goal.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden pledged in 2022 that Washington would defend Taiwan if “there was an unprecedented attack,” but insisted that his country is not encouraging independence for the island.
