"1 Lakh Crore Budget For Youth A Gamechanger": Rajeev Chandrasekhar To NDTV

A corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore to scale up research and innovation in sunrise domains will be a “game-changer”, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar told NDTV hours after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made the big announcement in the interim budget.

Terming it a golden era for the country’s tech- savvy youth, Ms Sitharaman said the corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore will be established with 50-year interest-free loans to encourage the private sector to scale up research and innovation.

“It is a brilliant way to quantify if you want to call it or realise this vision that the Prime minister has that as the country our economy throws up more and more of these opportunities. That they are available to our youngsters, to our start ups, to our entrepreneurs,  to our larger companies and that there is ample source of credit and capital that is available to them; to innovate to research,” said Mr Chandrasekhar.

The Minister said that it is now time for the country to actively become the producer of the technologies of the future with innovative platforms, devices and products of the future.

“One lakh crore being given as a government low-cost finance will in turn bring in additional resources and make this capital available to this ecosystem of companies and start-ups and individuals who want to innovate and research. It is absolutely a gamechanger and a force-multiplier in a lot of ways to the ambition that we have to create a trillion dollar digital economy and a five trillion dollar economy,” the Minister added.

The Indian economy is projected to grow close to 7 per cent in the financial year 2024-25 which starts this April, said the Ministry of Finance in a review report.

The next wave of start-ups is what the country is prepping for, what the Prime Minister is prepping for, said the Minister, adding that supporting policies are engineered to ensure that there is more and more of this energy that will drive this ambition of India to be a “viksit Bharat”.

Video: Ukraine Destroys Russia's Ivanovets Missile Boat In Black Sea

Video: Ukraine Destroys Russia's Ivanovets Missile Boat In Black Sea

Foreign Ministry official Olexander Scherba described the attack as “impressive”.

Ukrainian forces say they have destroyed the Russian missile boat from the Black Sea Fleet in a targeted operation near Russian-occupied Crimea. The military intelligence says that the Ivanovets, a small warship, received “direct hits to the hull” overnight, after which it sank.

Ukrainian forces have also released video footage that purports to show the moment of the impact, followed by a massive explosion.

Russian authorities have not commented on the incident, BBC reported. Meanwhile, a Russian military blogger, “Voenkor Kotenok,” wrote on Telegram that the boat sank after being struck three times by naval drones.

The Ukrainian video displays several identifiable features on the vessel that align with those of the Tarantul, also known as Project 12411-a missile boat class utilized by the Russian and other navies, to which the Ivanovets belong.

These features encompass the arrangement of the mast and sensors atop the primary superstructure, along with a sizable radar dome situated on the bridge.

According to Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, the boat was eliminated by members of its special unit, “Group 13,” in Lake Donuzlav. This saltwater bay is located on the western side of the Crimean peninsula and houses a naval base.

“As a result of a series of direct hits to the hull, the Russian ship suffered damage incompatible with further movement – the Ivanovets listed to the stern and sank,” it said on its Telegram channel.

BBC report said that a Russian search and rescue operation in the are was unsuccessful. It said that the ship was worth in the region of $60-70 million.

Foreign Ministry official Olexander Scherba described the attack as “impressive”.

“At 03:45 [01:45 GMT] there was the first hit and at 04:00 the whole crew was evacuated already. So there was no chance at all that this vessel would be saved,” he told the BBC.

Ukraine has experienced a string of victories in the conflict in and around the Black Sea, inflicting damage or destruction on Russian warships despite lacking a naval fleet of its own.

UK a money laundering, drug trafficking haven for MKO terrorists

The British government this week imposed sanctions on Iranian officials on the false claim that they were using drug cartels to carry out terrorist activities.

Iran summoned the British ambassador to Tehran to protest against the “baseless accusations” and “illegal” sanctions by London and informed him of the Islamic Republic’s “strong” indignation.

“This is a bitter historical irony that a country that is the founder and supporter of organized terrorist groups, drug trafficking, and criminal gangs wants to make accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its loyal and honest forces, who are at the forefront of fighting organised crimes,” the director general of Western Europe at the Iranian foreign ministry, Majid Nili Ahmadabadi, told British Ambassador Simon Shercliff.

The accusation against Iran flies in the face of the UK’s dim record on fighting drug gangs, while the country also supports terrorism and allows its soil to be used as a safe haven for terrorist groups.

Press TV has lately become privy to information provided by a security source which shows the British government has not only allowed the anti-Iran Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) to freely operate with a special privilege in the country, but has also closed its eyes to the terrorist cult’s engagement in drug trafficking.

The information shows one of the three main TV offices of the terrorist group known as Simay-e Azadi is in the UK, disseminating the terrorist activities of the group and transmitting encrypted messages to its members.

In addition, the UK government has removed the network from the oversight of Britain’s communications regulator Ofcom in order to allow the channel to operate without any hindrance.

As a result, the television is broadcasting violent content and terrorist acts 24/7 without being caught for falling foul of Ofcom’s Code of Practice.

The hypocrisy, however, does not stop there. The British government has also provided the terrorist cult with the conditions to meet its financial needs through drug trafficking, according to the new information.

The level of coordination and support is such that after one of the MKO’s drug networks in the UK was dismantled and its members were arrested, Britain’s MI6 intelligence service did not allow the news to be published in the media. The agency also provided for a show trial which allowed the MKO to keep channels for illegal financing of the cult’s terrorist activities open.

According to the information, the UK is home to the largest network of money laundering and financing of MKO terrorists in the world, overseen by a man identified as Sivash Pisheh Varz.

Siavash and his brothers, Aref and Dariush, are among the long-standing members of the terrorist group.

Siavash himself is one of the most prominent figures in many companies and businesses linked to the MKO, who was arrested in London in 2009 for money laundering and trafficking over 9 million pounds in cash. His name is more often than not proof of MKO colluding.

He is a member of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization who has attended many MKO gatherings in Europe, acted as a tool of propaganda for the terrorist group and facilitated several lobbying efforts in Europe.

In 2012, the British National Anti-Crime Foundation arrested a group of five individuals in relation to money laundering. The group which was taken into custody identified two money transfer centers in north Finchley.

The arrest operation began in September 2011 when Elias Bani al-Ebad, 59, Mahmoud Saadat, 44, and Mohammad Karijani, 40, met each other at IKEA Wembley Parking. Little did they know that several officers of the National Anti-Crime Foundation were watching them.

It was established that Karijani and Saadat were in contract with Siavash Pisheh Varz via telephone through the whole operation.

The following day, Bani al-Ebad and Karijani arrived at the same location and moved another cargo. On the same day, the two men were arrested and officers seized 150,000 pounds. An additional 57,000 pounds was discovered at one of the residences.

At Karijani’s address in Golders Green, police arrested Karijani’s wife, Samuel Jalali, 31, and Saadat, as they were destroying bank documents and other evidence. Among the documents, 43,350 pounds in cash was found. Pisheh Varz and Jalali were arrested in July 2012 and another 50,000 pounds was found in Pisheh Varz’s address.

Moreover, a notebook listing several transactions worth 9.5 million pounds was recovered at Pisheh Varz’s house.

The National Anti-Crime Foundation, after investigating the two money transfer centers, found that more than two million pounds had been transferred to the two centers in nine months.

In a separate case, Pisheh Varz is accused of overseeing the shipment of 500 kilograms of heroin to Ukraine by three individuals identified as Mohammad Forough, Ahmad Shah and Homayoun Mehrpour – all members of the terrorist cult’s drug trafficking network.

Pisheh Varz has a currency exchange office in the UK called “Transfer”, which provides the financial needs of the MKO terrorist group.

He uses the office as a front for two important missions: money laundering for the terrorist cult and providing financial needs and transferring money to terrorist networks inside Iran to buy equipment for their terrorist operations.

"Dad Said I Play Like Miandad": Sarfaraz's Revelation Post India Selection

The mountain of runs that he scored in domestic circuit might have opened the doors of Indian cricket to him, but for Sarfaraz Khan the learning never stops as he aspires to join the league of legends like Virat Kohli, Viv Richards and Javed Miandad. Sarfaraz has been recently drafted into the India squad for the second Test against England starting from Friday after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out due to injuries.

The prolific Mumbai batter turned into a fan-boy while discussing his learning process.

“I like to watch Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sir Vivian Richards, and even Javed Miandad because my dad has told me that I play like him. I watch Joe Root‘s batting also.

“Anyone who is succeeding, I am watching them to see how they are doing it so I can learn and apply it. I want to continue doing this, whether it’s in the Ranji Trophy or playing for India in the future,” Sarfaraz told JioCinema.

But then there is a real-life hero for Sarfaraz — his father Naushad Ahmed — who dedicated countless hours to make his son a cricketer.

“My father introduced me to cricket, and I always wondered why am I even playing. I am an attacking batsman and I used to get out sooner than others and scoring big runs was getting difficult.

“It was disheartening to see others succeed while I wouldn’t be among the runs. But my dad always believed in hard work, and everything I have is a result of that work,” said Sarfaraz.

In the 2015-2016 domestic season, Sarfaraz opted to play for Uttar Pradesh after he ran into trouble with Mumbai selectors during an under-19 game.

Sarfaraz said his dad would travel to UP or wherever the team played to watch him bat.

“Even when I moved from Mumbai to UP, he would take flights to come and see me. He would start bowling to me on the terrace or the road itself before selection trials.

“Now I realise the impact and importance of those efforts,” he added.

After two modest seasons with UP, Sarfaraz decided to return to Mumbai after gaining a NOC from UPCA and the 26-year-old admitted it was a tough moment for him.

But Sarfaraz said his father was the pillar of strength in this phase.

“When I came back to Mumbai from UP, I was scared if this would bring a halt to my career and I strongly felt there was no future ahead of me.

“But my dad always stood by me. There’s no guarantee in life if you don’t get opportunities,” he said.

But there were opportunities galore for him in Mumbai and his career blossomed there.

Now, Sarfaraz has 3912 runs from 45 First-Class matches at an average of 69.85 with 14 hundreds and 11 fifties.

Even in the red-ball format, Sarfaraz strikes at 70.48, making him a standout performer.

So, how does he score so consistently? Sarfaraz revealed the secret.

“My strength is that I am not easily satisfied. I play 500-600 balls every day. If I don’t play at least 200-300 balls in a match, I feel like I haven’t done much. It’s a habit now.

“If you want to play five-day cricket, you have to stay patient and practice every day. I play cricket all day and that’s why I can stay on the pitch for a long time,” Sarfaraz added.

Iran begins celebrating 45th anniversary of Islamic Revolution

Iranians have started Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies across the country, marking the 45th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which put an end to the ruling of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in Iran.

The annual nationwide celebration started all over Iran on Thursday, symbolically marking the date of the homecoming of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. Imam arrived back home from exile at 9:27 a.m. local time on February 1, 1979.

Imam spent more than 14 years in exile, mostly in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf. He also spent some time in Turkey and France before returning to Iran.

Millions of people converged on the capital from across the country on the day of his return.

His arrival gave considerable momentum to popular protests against the US-backed Pahlavi regime, which eventually led to its overthrow ten days later.

During the Fajr celebrations, Iranians take part in different events and activities to mark the occasion.

The festivities will culminate in nationwide rallies on February 11 this year, the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

Imam Khomeini’s arrival intensified months of popular protests against the Pahlavi regime. On February 8, 1979, a group of commanders, pilots, and staff of the Air Forces (Homafaran) went to Imam Khomeini’s home and expressed their loyalty to the revolution.

On February 11, 1979, the commanders of the armed forces attended Imam Khomeini’s home and submitted their resignation, declaring support to the founder of the Islamic Revolution. After the armed forces declared neutrality, the Shah regime’s main institutions and all other remnants collapsed.

Following the developments, Shapour Bakhtiar quickly fled Iran for France. These influential events marked the end of 2500 years of monarchy in the country. Imam Khomeini called on the people to restore peace and order.

The Islamic Revolution established a new political system; a republic based on Islamic values and democracy.

The beginning of the Fajr period is usually marked by the Leader’s visit to Imam Khomeini’s shrine.

On Wednesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei paid tribute to Imam Khomeini at the Imam’s mausoleum in Tehran.

He paid respect at the burial ground of martyrs who lost their lives during the popular uprising that led to the revolution.

The Leader then paid his respects to the Iranian martyrs who lost their lives in terrorist operations by the anti-Iran and anti-revolutionary Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) and Iraq’s 1980-88 imposed war on the Islamic Republic as well as other martyrs.

The Leader also paid homage to the grave of martyr Mohammad Amin Samadi, who was recently assassinated during an Israeli strike on Syria, and several other martyrs who helped defeat Daesh during Iran’s fight against the terror group in recent years.

Similarly, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi  and his cabinet ministers visited the mausoleum and the cemetery.

The Iranian chief executive renewed his allegiance with Imam Khomeini’s ideals and the martyrs.

During the 10-Day Dawn celebrations, Iranians take part in different events and activities to mark the occasion.

On the eve of the Fajr celebration,  Ayatollah Khamenei earlier visited the exhibition, held at the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya in Tehran on Monday morning.

Domestic products, especially those developed in knowledge-based companies and production supply chains, were featured in the exhibition.

The booth of knowledge-based companies in the field of mining and mineral industries, that the leader visited, displayed huge mining machinery and drilling equipment produced for the first time in the country.

The other booth that the leader visited was the booth of knowledge-based companies in the field of manufacturing electric motors for cars and optimizing energy consumption.

President  Raisi also on Thursday participated in the inauguration ceremony of stagnant industrial and production centers in Hormozgan province.

The president hailed the act as a significant “benefit” for the nation, saying that 7,000 stagnant and semi-closed factories in Hormozgan province have been revitalized.

According to the president, the province ranks first in the movement of revitalizing closed factories.

This Passport Is Rarest In The World, Only 500 People On Earth Have It

This Passport Is Rarest In The World, Only 500 People On Earth Have It

The Order of Malta issued the first passports during the 1300s

It is widely recognised that certain passports carry more influence than others. Take, for example, the Japanese passport, renowned as one of the most powerful global entry tools on Earth. Holders of Japanese passports can travel to 194 countries worldwide without requiring a visa.

While having the ability to travel to numerous countries is impressive, what might be even more extraordinary is being a bona fide member of the world’s most exclusive passport, namely, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta – also known as the Knights of Malta is a sovereign nation, with United Nations observer status and its constitution, but without any land, CNN reported. It issues car license plates – without having any roads to drive them on – and its stamps, currency and passports.

The Order of Malta issued the first passports during the 1300s, as its diplomats ventured to foreign states with documents verifying their status as ambassadors. Post-World War II, the diplomatic passport evolved to incorporate features found in passports from various nations. Presently, there are approximately only 500 diplomatic passports in circulation, making it the rarest passport globally.

The Order’s crimson passport, possibly symbolizing the blood of Christ, is exclusively designated for members of the Sovereign Council and leaders of diplomatic missions, along with their families. It features gold lettering denoting the organization’s name in French, “Ordre Souverain Militaire de Malte,” accompanied by a crest, CNN reported.

“The Order grants passports to members of their government for the duration of their mandate,” de Petri Testaferrata says.

The passports of Grand Masters are valid for the longest period, spanning a decade, as they are elected for two terms and are required to retire by the age of 85. On the other hand, other passports remain valid for four years and are exclusively utilised for diplomatic missions. These passports consist of 44 pages, featuring a watermark of the Maltese cross, without additional embellishments such as images or quotes.

As per De Petri Testaferrata, the diplomatic passport is acknowledged by two-thirds of Schengen members, and the Order collaborates closely with several countries, including France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations.

“We provide rapid medical and humanitarian supplies to victims of conflict or natural disasters. We run hospitals, ambulance corps, medical centres, homes for the elderly and the disabled, soup kitchens and first aid posts,” de Petri Testaferrata explained to CNN.

According to Travel + Leisure, there are a few places that don’t accept a passport as a valid form of ID for travel. The United Kingdom, the United States, and New Zealand don’t allow the passport.

Currently, the Sovereign Order of Malta is active in 120 countries, where it helps to care for people in need through its medical, social, and humanitarian works, the outlet reported.

After RBI Clampdown, Paytm Shares Important Updates For Its Users

After RBI Clampdown, Paytm Shares Important Updates For Its Users

The company issued a clarification about investments with Paytm Money

A day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) instructed Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL) to cease its widely-used mobile wallet operations and other related activities, the company responded to user inquiries by addressing frequently asked questions.

The payments firm took to X, formerly Twitter to address user concerns through an FAQ. In multiple posts on X, Paytm answered questions after RBI ordered the payments bank subsidiary of Paytm to stop accepting fresh deposits in its accounts or popular wallets from March.

The company issued a clarification about FASTag, Paytm said that the RBI order does not impact user deposits in their savings accounts, wallets, FASTags, and NCMC accounts, and they can continue to use the existing balances.

“You can continue to use the existing balance on your Paytm FASTag. We started our journey of working with other banks over the last two years, which we will now accelerate. We are working on effective solutions to ensure a seamless customer experience and will keep you posted,” the company said on X.

The company also clarified whether the POS machine/soundbox will work. Paytm wrote, “Your Paytm POS and Soundbox services remain unaffected and we will continue to onboard new offline merchants.”

The company issued a clarification about investments with Paytm Money. It said, “Your investments with @PaytmMoney are safe. The recent directives on our associate bank do not affect Paytm Money’s operations.”

In another post, the company clarified that the Paytm NCMC card will continue to work. “You can continue using the existing balances on your NCMC Cards. We started our journey of working with other banks over the last two years, which we will now accelerate.”

The RBI order said that any interest, cashbacks, or refunds may be credited back to Paytm customers at any time.

“No other banking services other than those…like fund transfers (irrespective of name and nature of services like AEPS, IMPS, etc), BBPOU and UPI facility should be provided by the bank after February 29, 2024,” the central bank had said.

Responding to the RBI move, Paytm said late on Wednesday that its parent company One97 Communication Limited (OCL) works with various banks.

Meanwhile, founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma said, “This is an important moment for all of us, we have seen the update from RBI. The important thing is that we have been given directions and are taking immediate steps to comply.”

He added, “OCL and PPSL are already in the process of moving nodal accounts to other banks, and marketing business services are not affected due to these directions.”

“On behalf of Paytm, this is more of a speed bump, but we believe in partnership of the banks and we will be able to see to the same in the next few days,” Mr Sharma said.
