Noushad, a 25-year-old from Uppinangady, Karnataka, undertook an ambitious journey from Karnataka to Makkah, entered Saudi Arabia recently and was felicitated at a Christmas event organized by the Telugu NRI organization, SATA on Friday evening at Riyadh.
His trek, initiated in January 2023, is not just an Islamic pilgrimage but a testament to determination and the pursuit of dreams against challenges.
“In India, all along the way everywhere I was offered food and hospitality by Hindus, also supported by the Christian community on the way. This was the beauty of India,” Noushad told the audience.

Various Christian prayer groups in the capital participated in the event which was organized by SATA and coordinated by D. Yerranna and Usha. Edward William Kunta, exclusively flew from Vizag to deliver a lecture on the occasion.
The scene of nativity, the birth of Jesus, is an important feature of most Christmas functions, and was decorated by a traditional Hindu women group led by Sucharita and Geeta, who were in the forefront for conducting a shloka quiz, the first ever in the Middle East in Saudi.
Geeta, who serves traditional Telugu delicious food to many Hindu families during Kartika masam, also prepared food for Christmas.

In cricket, fielding is an important aspect. It is often said catches win matches. Despite good bowling or batting, sometimes it is the fielding which sometimes helps a team nose ahead at crucial junctures. So how crucial is fielding exactly? Recently, former Indian cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir said that the chances of Pakistan at the 2024 T20 World Cup is less as it has got the ‘worst fielding’ in international cricket. A video from the European Cricket Championship is going viral on social media which might be the epitome of poor fielding.
In the video it can be seen that a side concedes five runs due to poor filding. The batters run between the wickets to complete the runs. The fielding side could not help but feel frustrated. One user commented that that they have “never been coached”.
In an engaging discussion Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir, both members of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning teams, deliberated on India’s chances at the T20 World Cup.
On the question, “Biggest threat to India In T20 World Cup?”, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir gave interesting replies.
“Afghanistan, in those conditions can be very very dangerous. Australia, because they have got impact players, and England because they play T20 cricket the way it should be played,” Gautam Gambhir said.
“I have different angle. I think South Africa should win. They have not won a white-ball tournament. The way I saw their progress in the 50-over World Cup and obviously Pakistan who are very dangerous,” Yuvraj Singh said.
“See Pakistan, their fielding is, I saw in the 50-over World Cup, probably the worst in international cricket. They will have to literally pull their socks up if they really want to compete in the T20 format,” Gautam Gambhir added.
“The amount of finals that India have reached…I don’t think Pakistan have reached anywhere close to the amount of finals that Indi have reached in the last five or six years. And you are just one step away from the trophy. hopefully in the T20 World Cup could be one.”
South-west coast of India is one of the regions of high genetic and cultural diversity resulting from millennia of migration, settlements and admixture of human populations

Hyderabad: In a ground breaking study in analysing genetic ancestry, geneticists from Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and other researchers from across the country, have concluded that the Nairs, Thiyyas and Ezhavas from Kerala, and Bunts and Hoysalas from Karnataka are genetically closer to populations of North-west India.
Dr Kumarasamy Thangaraj, JC Bose Fellow, CCMB, who led high-throughput genetic study, which was published recently in the journal Genome Biology and Evolution, said “Our genetic study revealed that the Nair and Thiyya warrior communities share most of their ancestry from ancient migrants of North-west India, and have enhanced Iranian ancestry, similar to Kamboj and Gujjar populations”, he said, adding that “Their maternal genome reflects higher distribution of West Eurasian mitochondrial lineages, suggesting female-mediated migration, unlike most of the recent migrant groups such as Siddis”.
The researchers have analysed the DNA of 213 individuals of traditional warriors and feudal lord communities from South-west coast India. They looked for genome-wide autosomal markers and maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA markers, and compared their results with ancient and contemporary Eurasian populations ranging from the Bronze age to present day groups.
“Our machine-learning based study suggests that the migration of these groups happened following North-west to Central Indian to the South-west coast during late Bronze age or probably Iron age ”, said Dr. Lomous Kumar, first author of the study, who was the PhD student of CCMB and presently at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow.
“This study suggests that the South-west coastal groups are remnants of very early migrations from North-west India following the Godavari basin to Karnataka and Kerala” said Dr. Vinay K. Nandicoori, Director, CCMB.
Other researchers who were involved in this study are Dr. Moinak Banerjee, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram; and Dr. Mohammed S. Mustak, Mangalore University, Mangalore.
South-west coast of India is one of the regions of high genetic and cultural diversity resulting from millennia of migration, settlements and admixture of human populations. Earlier studies on the recent migrants, who are inhabited in South-west India, including Jews, Parsis and Roman Catholics reveals existence of rich genetic heritage of this region.
However, one major group of populations in this region with historical status of warriors or feudal lords have debatable genetic history.
Historians and written records relate them to migrants from Ahichhatra (Iron age civilization) in Gangetic plain, while others relate them to Indo-Scythian clan migrant from North-West India.
“The Resistance has not lost its command and control system,” a senior Zionist military analyst at the Walla news website said on Monday after Hamas fired a barrage of rockets at the occupied territories just at the start of the New Year.
“The missile salvos from Gaza prove that Hamas still has a functioning command and control system and that it has capabilities to launch long-range rockets,” Amir Bohbot added.
The analyst noted that it is very difficult to define the areas “cleared” of Hamas fighters because of the large number of underground sites belonging to the Resistance group.
He further said that Israel’s challenges in Gaza have remained the same since the beginning of the war, including the issue of captives, as well as Hamas officials, and its infrastructure.
On Sunday, the Zionist military claimed that rocket launches by Hamas had dropped from an average of 75 per day in late November to only 14.
Boaz Golan, founder of Zionist news site 0404, doubted the claim, saying, “Now, Hamas is firing dozens of missiles… It’s time to stop insulting ourselves!”
In a video published on social media, the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said it had fired M90 rockets towards Tel Aviv and southern areas in the occupied territories in “response to the massacres of civilians” carried out by Israeli regime.
Israel waged the genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out the cross-border Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
However, 87 days into the invasion, the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its objectives of “destroying Hamas” and finding Zionist captives despite killing 21,822 Palestinians, mostly children and women.
Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank estimates that out of 26 to 30 battalions of Qassam Brigades fighters, which were believed to exist on October 7 – each having 400 to 1,000 men, only three have been rendered inoperable – or, in civilian parlance, destroyed.
“Hamas remains resilient and able to reconstitute its military capabilities, despite its military losses in the war thus far,” the American think tank said.
The tsunami threat from a powerful earthquake that struck central Japan on Monday has “largely passed”, a US agency said, after waves over a metre high had earlier hit some areas.
“The tsunami threat has now largely passed,” the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
