Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been left out of the squad for the Melbourne Renegades BBL clash against Melbourne Stars following a “change to his No-Objection Certificate (NOC) conditions”. After being asked to be left out of the central contract 2024, Mujeeb along with pacers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi was sanctioned by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). “The insistence on not signing the central contract for these players was their involvement in commercial leagues, prioritizing their personal interests over playing for Afghanistan, which is regarded as a national responsibility. By opting for their release, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to take disciplinary measures against these players,” a statement from ACB read.

The sanctions included revoking any NOC they currently possess along with no NOCs for the three bowlers to play in T20 leagues for the next two years.

Melbourne Renegades released a statement to announce Mujeeb’s absence from the squad which read as quoted from ESPNcricinfo, “Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been removed from the squad after a change to his NOC conditions made him unavailable for the match.”

According to ESPNcricinfo, Naveen and Farooqi approached the ACB and expressed a strong desire to represent the nation. They were added to Afghanistan’s squad for their three-match T20I series against UAE.

The series is currently on level terms with Afghanistan winning the game quite comfortably by 72 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz‘s century powered Afghanistan to a score of 203/3, the bowlers in return did their job and accomplished a comprehensive victory.

Farooqi claimed two wickets after giving away just 19 runs while Naveen claimed a single wicket in his four-over spell and spilled 25 runs.

In the second T20, UAE bounced back to level the series as they restricted Afghanistan to 155 after setting a total of 166/7 in the first innings. The series will conclude on Tuesday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

'Super Nervous' Naomi Osaka Wins Comeback Match At Brisbane International

Former world number one and new mother Naomi Osaka said on Monday she was proud to have won her first match back after a long break, admitting she had been “super nervous”. The 26-year-old was on court at the Brisbane International for an hour and 47 minutes before finally seeing off gallant German Tamara Korpatsch 6-3, 7-6 (11/9) on Pat Rafter Arena. “I was super nervous, but I was excited to be out there,” said Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion who stepped away from tennis in September 2022, citing mental health concerns. “I think it’s better to have harder matches early because it will train me for what’s to come. “I know all the opponents I play aren’t easy anyway, so it would be very ‘out there’ for me to think my first match would be a 6-1, 6-1 win.

“Looking back on the match now, honestly I’m very proud of myself. I feel like I played at a pretty good level.”

After giving birth to a baby girl in July, Osaka rediscovered her love of the game and decided to return for the 2024 season.

It looked like she had never been away when she broke Korpatsch to love in the opening game then broke once more to take the first set relatively comfortably.

But it was a different story in the second set as Korpatsch lifted and Osaka began to feel the pressure.

Korpatsch broke Osaka’s serve to start the second set and although the Japanese star broke straight back, she was no longer as settled against the tenacious German.

Osaka did break once more and was serving for the match at 5-4, but she was broken again and it went to a tiebreak, where both players had their chances.

Osaka squandered two match points and Korpatsch two set points before Osaka prevailed on her third opportunity with a powerful forehand down the line.

She said courtside that motherhood had changed her outlook on the game, and she had felt too isolated from fans and fellow players previously.

“The last couple of years that I played before I had my daughter I didn’t return as much love as I was given,” she said.

“So I really feel like that’s what I want to do in this chapter. I just really appreciate people coming out and cheering for me.

“I would say she’s (her daughter) helped me grow up so much so quickly,” Osaka added.

“Off the court I’m more aware of people and I appreciate them a lot more, even my opponents and everything.”

In the men’s draw, world number eight and top seed Holger Rune came from a set down to defeat Australian Max Purcell.

The big serving Purcell took the opening set against a rusty looking Rune, but the Dane became increasingly assured as the match wore on and took charge to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Second seed Grigor Dimitrov was also recovered from losing the first set to defeat former world number one Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Earlier, Russia’s Roman Safiullin ousted third seeded American Ben Shelton 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-3 in a match lasting over two-and-a-half hours.

Iran exports products worth $6.9b to Iraq in 9 months

According to Mohammad Rezvanifar, Iraq was the second top export destination of Iranian products in that nine-month period.

As previously announced by an official with Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), the value of Iran’s export to Iraq increased by 15 percent in the past Iranian calendar year 1401 (ended on March 20, 2023).

Farzad Piltan, the director-general of TPO’s Office of West Asian Countries, said that based on the data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, Iran exported commodities worth over $10 billion to its neighbor in the previous year.

By stating that Iraq is one of the strategic partners of Iran in the field of foreign trade and especially exports, he put the value of Iran’s import from Iraq at about $200 million in the past year.

Considering Iran’s vast export capacity and Iraq’s large market for Iranian goods, both sides want to expand the volume of bilateral economic exchanges.

Iran and Iraq have set a target of $20 billion in annual trade, and businessmen and authorities of both countries are determined to meet that target, Head of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya Ale-Es’haq has stated.

“In general, Iran and Iraq have agreed to improve relations and change the monetary and banking conditions so that the central banks of the two countries will ease the current situation and solve the problems,” he has noted.

The current administration of Iran under President Raisi has shown great interest in broadening and enhancing trade and economic ties with neighboring states, Ale Es’haq has emphasized.

In late September, 2023, Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) hosted an Iran-Iraq business conference in which officials from the two sides discussed ways of expanding mutual business relations.

Speaking at the conference, TPO Head Mehdi Zeyghami stressed the need to balance the trade between the two countries, saying: “The level of trade and economic relations between Iran and Iraq has increased significantly in recent years, and the figure can be increased up to 40 billion dollars if the two sides’ trade is balanced.”

The government of Iran is ready to cooperate with Iraq for the industrial development of the country in the 2035 horizon, he noted, saying: “Iran is ready to transfer technology to Iraq and develop industrial projects in the country.”

“We hope to achieve the goals outlined by the presidents of the two countries by solving issues related to logistics and financial transactions,” the official added.

Iran and Iraq have stressed the need to use the national currencies of the two countries to enhance mutual trade relations.

During a meeting between Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Abbas Ali-Abadi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani in Baghdad on October 31, 2023 the two sides emphasized using the national currencies for bilateral trade exchanges.

In the meeting, which took place in the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office in Baghdad, the economic relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them and strengthen exchanges and partnerships at different levels were discussed and explored.

In a statement issued at the time, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office said, “Today, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani hosted Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Abbas Ali-Abadi. In this meeting, the two sides explored avenues for strengthening bilateral relations and bolstering mutual trade exchanges and participating in various fields.”

The Iraqi prime minister expressed his country’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of petrochemical industries and fertilizers.

According to this statement, Iran’s minister of industry, while conveying the warm greetings of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, emphasized the need for advancing trade and economic projects in the face of existing economic challenges in the region and the world.

2023 "Most Violent" Year On Record For Israeli Settler Attacks: Report

2023 'Most Violent' Year On Record For Israeli Settler Attacks: Report

Over 520 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank in 2023: Palestinian health ministry

Jerusalem, Undefined:

Israeli settlers killed at least 10 Palestinians and torched dozens of homes in the occupied West Bank in 2023, making it the “most violent” year on record for settler attacks, an Israeli watchdog said Monday.

Numerous West Bank attacks were carried out by a large group of Israeli settlers, and the violence spiked after Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel, said Yesh Din, a human rights group.

“At least 10 Palestinians were killed by settlers and dozens of homes and vehicles were set on fire” last year, it said.

“2023 was the most violent year in settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank in both the number of incidents and their severity.”

The West Bank has been under Israeli military occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War, and tensions have escalated since the outbreak of fighting between Israel and the Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers.

About 490,000 settlers live among approximately three million Palestinians in the West Bank, in settlements that are considered illegal under international law.

Yesh Din began monitoring settler violence against Palestinians in 2006.

“The first two months since October 7 were particularly violent, with Yesh Din documenting 242 settler violence incidents,” it said, referring to the day when Hamas launched a series of deadly attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip.

“In these incidents, hundreds of Israelis raided Palestinian villages, setting fire to dozens of homes and vehicles,” the watchdog said.

‘Lack of trust’

At least 317 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces and settlers in the West Bank since the Gaza war began, according to Ramallah-based Palestinian health ministry.

Yesh Din refuted claims made by the military and police that there had been a decrease in settler violence in recent months, saying those numbers reflected a drop in complaints filed to Israeli authorities.

Since the current right-wing Israeli government came to power in December 2022, more Palestinians have expressed a “lack of trust” in Israeli law enforcement authorities in the West Bank, it said.

“Settler violence is the policy of the Israeli government,” the watchdog charged about the ruling coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu which includes settlers and ultra-nationalist hardliners.

Last month the United States said it would refuse visas for extremist Israeli settlers who attack Palestinians, stepping up pressure to curb the wave of violence in the West Bank.

Palestinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank, meanwhile, have killed at least 41 people in 2023, according to the Shin Bet security agency.

More than 520 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank in 2023, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
