Death toll of Palestinians rises to 21,978 in Gaza: Ministry

The Israeli military killed 156 Palestinians and wounded 246 others in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours, Xinhua reported citing the ministry’s spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra’s press statement on Monday.

The new causalities bring the number of Palestinian deaths to 21,978 and injuries to 56,697 since Oct. 7, according to al-Qedra.

He said that Israeli attacks had killed 326 medical workers and forced 30 of the 35 hospitals in the Gaza Strip out of service.

Al-Qedra called on international organizations to protect the healthcare system and its personnel in the Gaza Strip and said his ministry was in talks with UN agencies on the restart of health centers in different regions of the Palestinian enclave.

He also stressed the need to send medical teams and field hospitals to the Strip to meet the enormous needs for health care.

He criticized the mechanism in place for the injured Palestinians to receive treatment outside the Gaza Strip, pointing out that only 645 wounded people have been able to do so thus far, accounting for 1 percent of the total population in need of medical attention.

'Sab Sledging Karenge': Young Captain's Pep Talk Ahead Of Match Goes Viral

When we hear the word sledging in cricket, it reminds us of the Australian team during the late 90s and early 2000s. Australia, under the leadership of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, was not only famous for their skills on the field, but also their aggressive sledging of opponents. The side from Down Under won several games with their skills on the field, but there were times when the Australian team of the past had to take a different approach to gain an advantage over their opponents. Ponting’s Australia had mastered the art of sledging, winning two World Cup titles under that period.

However, when it comes to recent times, Virat Kohli‘s Team India came close to replicating Australia, especially in Test cricket. Kohli, during his tenure as captain, had instilled fearless approach in his players.

Under the leadership of the dynamic batter, India won back-to-back Test series in Australia, despite multiple obstacles in their path. Kohli also won five Test maces on the trot from 2017-21.

In a viral video, a young captain was seen giving a fiery pep talk to his players. The kid was seen urging his players to sledge the opponent team right from the get-go.

Coming back to Kohli, the 35-year-old stepped down as India’s Test captain following a narrow series loss to South Africa in 2022.

He was replaced at the helm by Rohit Sharma, under whom India reached the final of WTC final last year. However, India lost the final to Australia.

India are currently in South Africa for a two-match Test series. The visitors lost the first Test by an innings and 32 runs.

The second Test starts January 3 in Cape Town.

Donald Trump's New Year's Eve Party Features 90s Rapper Vanilla Ice

Rapper Vanilla Ice entertained the crowd at Donald Trump’s resort.

Rapper Vanilla Ice brought the ‘90s back in style with his iconic “Ice Ice Baby” performance at Donald Trump’s private New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The event made waves on social media, with #VanillaIce trending on New Year’s Day, fueled by the 56-year-old’s energetic performance.

Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, entertained people at Mr Trump’s resort with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle from the ’90s. Videos show Mr Trump watching the rapper perform in the room. The night also had an Elvis impersonator.

Mr Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, expressed his excitement in a live video shared on Facebook, captioning it with, “Ok, this is amazing.” The video showcased him enthusiastically mouthing the words to Vanilla Ice’s performance. “Vanilla Ice is playing the Mar-a-Lago New Years Eve party. As a child of the 90s you can’t fathom how awesome that is. Beyond that I got the birthday shoutout so that’s pretty amazing.”

Now, take a look at some videos from Vanilla Ice’s power-packed performance.

In a speech,  Mr Trump mentioned his wife, Melania Trump’s absence, explaining she was with her mother in a Miami hospital. He lightened the mood with a joke about Mar-a-Lago members “scalping tickets” and briefly touched on politics, mentioning the upcoming Iowa GOP caucuses in three weeks. “We’re going to have a fantastic year. Our country has gone to hell but we’re going to turn it around, we’re going to turn it around quickly,” said the former US President.

The ’90s rapper grabbed attention last month by claiming ties to 2Pac and Pablo Escobar.

Another performance stirred controversy among former President Trump’s supporters. Popular rock band Green Day modified the lyrics to their song while appearing on ABC’s New Year’s Eve show “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

The band performed their 2004 hit American Idiot, but instead of singing the original line “I’m not part of a redneck agenda,” they opted for “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda.”

This alteration sparked outrage among Trump supporters, while those opposed to the leading GOP candidate praised the change in lyrics.

South Korean opposition leader stabbed in neck

Lee, who heads the main opposition Democratic Party, was stabbed on the left side of his neck by a man who lunged out of the crowd as he was walking with journalists on Tuesday morning. Emergency officials have said he is not in a critical condition, although his exact status is unknown.

Pictures in South Korean media showed 59-year-old Lee lying on his back on the ground with his eyes closed, as officials crowded around him and one pressed a cloth against his neck.

Democratic Party party spokesman Kwon Chil-seung said the politician was being flown to Seoul National University in the capital, after receiving emergency treatment at Pusan National University Hospital.

Medical staff at the latter hospital suspected damage to a jugular vein that carries blood from the head to the heart. “There is concern that there could be large haemorrhage or additional haemorrhage, according to medical staff,” Kwon said.

The attack, seen in video footage and photographs, unfolded while Lee was touring the site of a proposed airport in Busan.

The assailant, wearing a paper crown with Lee’s name on it, initially approached the politician asking for an autograph. He then attacked him with a weapon that was between 20 and 30cm (8 and 12 inches) long.

Arrested at the scene, the assailant has refused to answer police questions about his motives, according to daily Busan Ilbo.

Karti Chidambaram Questioned Again In Chinese Visa Money Laundering Case

Karti Chidambaram Questioned Again In Chinese Visa Money Laundering Case

Karti Chidambaram appeared before probe agency ED today for a fresh round of questioning

New Delhi:

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram appeared before the Enforcement Directorate today for a fresh round of questioning in a money laundering case linked to issuance of visas to some Chinese nationals in 2011, official sources said.

The 52-year-old legislator from Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu was questioned in this case on December 23 last year and the central agency recorded his statement under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

He again deposed before the investigating officer of the case at the ED headquarters in central Delhi, officials said.

The money laundering case, filed under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), stems from a CBI FIR.

The probe pertains to allegations of Rs 50 lakh being paid as kickbacks to Karti and his close associate S Bhaskararaman by a top executive of Vedanta group company Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd. (TSPL), which was setting up a power plant in Punjab, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR.

According to the CBI, the work for setting up the power project was being executed by a Chinese company and was running behind schedule.

A TSPL executive had sought re-issuance of project visas for 263 Chinese workers for which Rs 50 lakh allegedly exchanged hands, according to the CBI FIR.

The CBI had last year raided the premises of the Chidamabram family and arrested Bhaskararaman even as Karti was questioned by it.

Karti Chidambaram has earlier said that the ED probe was a “fishing and roving” enquiry and that he has submitted documents to the agency in the past. He had called the case “most bogus”, asserting he was “certain that he never facilitated even a single Chinese national in their visa process, let alone 250.”

He had said this case an attempt to target his father senior Congress leader P Chidambaram through him.

This is the third money laundering case against Karti Chidambaram with the INX Media and Aircel-Maxis cases being probed by the ED for some years now.
