Israel military sinks into ‘mud of Gaza’, fails to achieve 'goals': Israeli general

An Israeli general has warned that the regime has failed to meet its “unrealistic” task of “destroying Hamas” and is sinking into the “mud of Gaza.”

In an opinion piece run by the Ma’ariv newspaper, Yitzhak Barik said on Monday that Israel is caught in a “vicious circle” and slammed the regime for ignoring the “facts on the ground” and “living in a simulated reality.”

“As time goes by, we are further and further from achieving the goals of the war: the eradication of Hamas and the release of the [captives], and we are sinking more and more into the mud of Gaza,” Barik noted.

He said he believed that Israel has no intention of entering Rafah in southern Gaza, where Hamas exercises complete control because it is “terribly crowded” due to Israel’s ever-expanding evacuation orders which have displaced over 2 million Gazans.

“It is therefore impossible to attack these camps, and in a word, it is impossible to eradicate Hamas there whose soldiers are mixed in with the refugees,” he added.

According to Barik Israel’s failure to eradicate Hamas rule in Rafah and failure to take control of the tunnels under it means that it has not met the main task it set for the war, to “overthrow Hamas rule.”

Therefore, he said, the continuation of the fighting does not add to the achievement of the goals of the war.

“The opposite is true, this fighting brings us heavy losses every day: from explosives and traps that the [resistance fighters] plant for us and anti-tank missiles that shoot at us,” he added.

Barik said that the Israeli regime “must reconsider” the situation in war.

“Some of the ministers and members of the Knesset also understand that this is an unrealistic goal at this stage,” he said, adding, “but are afraid to voice their opinion lest they be accused of harming the fighting spirit of the fighters and the … goal of destroying Hamas.”

“A vicious circle is thus created from which there is no way out,” he said.

He warned that in case Israel insists on continuing the war or seizing control of Gaza, it will “lose the support of the world in general and the support of the USA in the war.”

He added that the “radical approach” will also result in a “war of attrition” with Lebanon’s Hezbollah which could spill over into the region.

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, nearly 22,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli aggression. Palestinians in Gaza are forced to flee on a near-daily basis towards the south as Israel’s intensified assault continues into 2024.

Israel's plan to displace Gazans proves regime's genocide

In a statement issued on Monday, the movement denounced “the remarks made by the officials of the Nazi government in the Israeli entity regarding the displacement of our people in the Gaza Strip and the search for countries to deport them to.”

Such statements, the movement added, “are ongoing war crimes that confirm the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip is a war of genocide against the existence of the Palestinian people in their homeland.”

Commenting on their remarks, the Islamic Jihad said silence in the face of the Israeli regime’s plan to displace the people of Gaza “implies implicit encouragement for the entity to continue its criminal agenda.”

Such agenda “will not be limited to Gaza alone,” the movement warned, adding that the plan threatens “Arab national security” and poses a “definite danger…to the stability of all countries of the region.”

Concluding the statement, the Resistance movement held the United States responsible for emboldening the Israeli regime to implement such plans against Palestinians “through the invention of the term ‘voluntary displacement’.”

The Islamic Jihad said the US is “giving the [Zionist] entity the time and weapons necessary to destroy all aspects of life in Gaza, so that displacement becomes the only option” for its people.

The Islamic Jihad, however, vowed that Palestinian Resistance groups will not hesitate to stand up to the US-backed Israeli onslaught.

“We affirm that we will continue to confront this war of extermination and displacement, and we rely on the awareness of our people and the bravery of the combatants in the field to thwart these criminal plans,” the movement said.

The Israeli regime launched its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following an operation by the territory’s Resistance movements, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm. Close to 22,000 people, most of them women and children, have been killed in the regime’s military aggression so far.

Throughout the war, the regime’s officials have been floating a plan, that requires forced displacement of Palestinians residing in Gaza to other countries.

"Surrendered Meekly…": Ex-India Coach's Brutal Take On 1st SA Test Loss

Former bowling coach Bharat Arun said India “surrendered meekly” against South Africa.© AFP

India were outplayed by South Africa in the first Test of a two-match series last week in Centurion. The Proteas took a 1-0 in the series, courtesy of an innings and 32-run win at the SuperSport Park. With India eyeing a redemption in the series decider in Cape Town, a venue where they have never won a Test, former bowling coach Bharat Arun shared his views on the humiliating defeat in the series-opener last week, saying that the visitors “surrendered meekly” against South Africa.

“Well, to see India come back and [KL] Rahul get that century was quite happening. And there was quite a lot of help in the wicket for the bowlers. So we had a very, very positive feeling about the whole thing. And we thought that we could clearly make a Test match out of this. I think winning or losing a Test match is okay. But I think the way we lost the last Test – we surrendered meekly in the second innings – is not a good feeling,” Arun told RevSportz in an interview.

On being asked if India can make a comeback and draw the series at Newlands, Arun feels Rohit and his men are strong enough to do so. To back his claim, Arun recalled how India won the series in Australia during thier last trip, having lost the first Test after being bowled out for 36.

“Indians are strong enough. They are resilient enough to be able to come back after this Test match. We did come back after being 36 all out in Australia. So losing a Test match is, I don’t think it’s a very, very big deal. But I think how you come back from there is even more important because that shows the character, their resilience, and things like that,” he added.

India have never beaten South Africa in six previous meeting at the Newlands in Cape Town. They have played six Tests at the venue, losing four and drawing two.

In fact, India have only ever won four Tests in the Rainbow Nation. Two of those victories have come at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium (2006 and 2018), including their first-ever Test win in South Africa under Rahul Dravid‘s captaincy 17 years ago.

Fuel shortage triggers long queues at Hyderabad petrol pumps

G Vinay Kumar, President of the Telangana State Petrol Dealers Association, highlighted the cessation of petrol and diesel supply due to the truck drivers’ strike.

Fuel shortage triggers long queues at Hyderabad petrol pumps

Hyderabad: Long queues formed at petrol pumps across Hyderabad on Tuesday as reportedly a result of the ongoing protests by truck drivers against a provision in the new penal law related to hit-and-run accidents. The protests have led to a disruption in the supply of petrol and diesel across the state, impacting fuel availability in the city.

G Vinay Kumar, President of the Telangana State Petrol Dealers Association, highlighted the cessation of petrol and diesel supply due to the truck drivers’ strike.

“On December 31, petrol dealers refrained from stocking up on fuel amid speculations about potential price reductions by the Centre. The commencement of the truck drivers’ strike on Monday further aggravated the situation, causing shortages at numerous fuel stations in the city,” he said.

This scarcity has prompted motorists in the city to flock to petrol stations, resulting in lengthy queues for petrol and diesel. The increased demand has also contributed to significant traffic congestion on the roads. Kumar indicated that the shortage might persist for up to a week unless the protests cease.

The truck drivers’ discontent stems from a provision in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaces the colonial-era Indian Penal Code. The contested provision imposes severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine of Rs 7 lakh, on drivers involved in serious road accidents due to negligent driving who then flee the scene without notifying authorities.

Israel launches fresh attacks on Syria in new acts of aggression

The Israeli military has carried out two separate strikes against targets in Syria amid its bloody onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Syria’s official SANA news agency, citing an unnamed military source, reported that the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights at around 4:35 a.m. local time (0135 GMT) on Tuesday, targeting some sites on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.

The source added that there were no injuries in the strike, but there were material losses.

Another military official told Russia’s Arabic-language RT Arabic television news network that Syrian air defenses intercepted and shot down most of the incoming Israeli missiles.

The development came only a few hours after Israeli artillery units shelled areas in Syria’s southwestern province of Dara’a.

The Israeli army stated in a statement that the attack was in response to several rockets fired from southern Syria into the Golan Heights.

Israel waged the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s incessant crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Since the start of the aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 21,978 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured some 57,700 others.

It has also imposed a “complete siege” on the coastal sliver, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of resistance fighters, who have played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.

BJP's New Panel To Screen Joinings Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls

BJP's New Panel To Screen Joinings Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls

The BJP wants to minimise the risk of welcoming leaders who may not turn out loyal to the party

New Delhi:

The BJP has added a new layer of filter to check the quality of leaders of other parties who approach to join the BJP, ahead of the national election to be held in a few months.

A new committee of the BJP has been formed to decide whether to allow or reject leaders who want to join the party, sources have said.

Leaders from other parties will be welcomed into the BJP only after the committee gives the green light, sources said. The committee will meet for the first time on January 6, sources said.

The BJP is said to have come up with the idea of such a committee to minimise the risk of welcoming leaders who may not turn out loyal to the party after elections, or during rough patches.

Trinamool Congress leaders Mukul Roy and Babul Supriyo, for example, had joined the BJP just before elections in West Bengal, but later returned to the party led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after it won the state election.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the BJP campaign for the national election this year, and looking to win at the Centre for a third term, the BJP wants to ensure their entire network of leaders is dedicated to the party.

Any leader from other parties who approaches to join the BJP but shows signs of reluctance or gives conditions may not pass through the filter of the new committee.

Senior BJP leaders also met today in Delhi to discuss strategies for the Lok Sabha election and the consecration of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya.

Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Ashwini Vaishnav, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and general secretaries Tarun Chugh and Sunil Bansal are at the meeting.

“Making of clusters for Lok Sabha, which was discussed in the last BJP meeting, will be reviewed in this meeting. All the issues will be listed that need to be taken into public as the highlight of BJP for Lok Sabha election 2024. This will also include pre- and post-programmes in connection with the Ram mandir consecration,” a source told news agency PTI.

Rallies to be handled by senior ministers and leaders will be decided as soon as the cluster-making work is done, PTI reported.
