The Colorado Springs Police Department issued a press release
A Colorado mother accused of murdering two of her children and injuring a third was arrested in London after being on the run for days, The Independent reported. Kimberlee Singler, 35, appeared at Westminister Magistrate’s court on New Year’s Day, charged with the murder of her two children.
Singler has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, three counts of child abuse and one count of assault.
Her daughter, aged nine, and son, seven were found dead at a home in Colorado on December 19, along with her 11-year-old daughter who was injured, BBC reported.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) in the UK reported that she attended an extradition hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Following the hearing, she was remanded in custody, with the next court appearance scheduled for January 29.
A spokesperson for the NCA said, “On Saturday 30 December 2023 in the Kensington area of London, officers from the National Crime Agency’s National Extradition Unit arrested a 35-year-old female wanted in the United States of America for offences including two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.”
Last week, the Colorado Springs Police Department issued a press release stating that they initially received a 911 call reporting a burglary at a residence in Colorado at 00:29 local time on December 19.
Upon arriving at the scene, Ms. Singler and her eldest daughter were discovered injured and received immediate treatment before being transported to the hospital, according to the release.
Subsequently, the police force concluded that the initial report of a burglary was deemed “unfounded.”
In the latest release, it was confirmed that she was arrested “without incident” in the UK and said more information would be shared in a press conference.
Ms Singler’s ex-husband Kevin Wentz said he was devastated when he learned of his children’s death and that he and his family “are suffering a tremendous amount of grief and shock.”
Essential supplies of vegetables, fruits and milk too may get affected if the three-day strike is extended or a pan-India movement is launched

New Delhi: About 2,000 petrol pumps, mostly in western and northern India, have run out of fuel stocks as the strike by some truckers’ associations entered the second day on Tuesday.
While state-owned oil firms had topped up tanks at most petrol pumps across the country in anticipation of the truckers’ strike, some petrol pumps in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab ran out of stock due to heavy rush, industry officials said.
Long queues were witnessed at several pumps in these states as panic set in on stocks running out.
Situation in southern India is better with no major supply disruption barring a few pumps in Hyderabad, they said.
Essential supplies of vegetables, fruits and milk too may get affected if the three-day strike is extended or a pan-India movement is launched.
Some truck, bus and tanker operators began a three-day strike on Monday against the stringent jail and fine regulations under the new criminal law Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for hit-and-run cases.
The All India Motor Transport Association — the umbrella body of truck operators — has so far not given a nationwide strike call and its representatives will be meeting home ministry officials to raise their concerns around BNS.
The industry officials said most petrol pumps have stocks to last 2-3 days and should not see any problems if the strike was to last for the stated three days. However, there will be trouble if the strike is extended or a pan-India protest is called, they added.
There are about 1 lakh trucks that ferry petrol and diesel as well as LPG from oil company depots to petrol pumps and gas distribution agencies.
The strike has impacted the movement of trucks in some western and northern states, they said, adding some LPG truck movement too has been impacted.
However, there is no complaints on LPG shortage just yet as most users have double connections (two LPG cylinders) and reserve stock even if one cylinder gets exhausted. If the strike were to get extended, LPG supplies too may get hit, they said.
In Maharashtra, the state government requested police to ensure an uninterrupted supply of petrol and diesel while commuters in Madhya Pradesh encountered travel inconvenience.
Since Monday, protestors have blockaded roads and highways across states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The new law, which replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, provides for a jail of up to 10 years and/or a fine of Rs 7 lakh for serious road accidents due to negligent driving and where drivers run away without informing the police.
Truckers said most truck drivers choose to run away even in minor accidents as they otherwise will have to face mob justice and risk of life. While the mobs typically go unpunished, to impose stringent punishment on drivers was unfair, they said.
Long queues at petrol pumps in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla and Dharamshala were also reported.
Heavy rush was seen outside petrol pumps in Mumbai and Thane as people came to fill up their vehicle tanks fearing shortage of fuel.
Petrol Dealers Association, Mumbai, President Chetan Modi told PTI that the fuel supply to petrol pumps was affected due to the drivers’ agitation since Monday. “Petrol pumps started running dry yesterday. If we don’t get the supply, most of the pumps will run out of fuel by the end of the day,” he said.
Protesters obstructed highways in several districts of Gujarat, including Kheda, Valsad, Gir Somnath, Bharuch, and Mehsana, and in places like Nagpur in Maharashtra by using trucks as blockades on roads.
Tapan Sharma, a former president of the Ahmedabad Motor Transport Association in Gujarat, told PTI that the protests occurred spontaneously. “The association has not called for a strike. Drivers are acting independently due to concerns about the new law. They protest briefly and then move on. However, these sporadic demonstrations have caused delays in the delivery of goods.”

Hyderabad: The Department of Tourism will be hosting a three-day International Kite & Sweet Festival at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds from January 13. The festival is being organised after a gap of three years.
Tourism Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao unveiled the International Kite Festival poster at Begumpet Haritha Plaza on Tuesday. As part of the sweet festival national and international sweets would be made available in the stalls, he added.
The officials of the tourism department said stalls of handicrafts and handlooms were being set up at the venue and cultural programmes would also be organised during the Kite Festival. Paris on Tuesday said its embassy in Niger was now closed, confirming previously announced plans, after relations between the two countries deteriorated following a military coup in the African country, Reuters reported.
“For five months, our embassy has been severely hampered, making it impossible to carry out its missions,” a spokeswoman for the French foreign ministry said in a statement.
The French army has been forced to completely withdraw its troops from Niger after French President Emmanuel Macron’s arrogant refusal to recognize the military-led transitional government in the country.
The people of Niger also held countless demonstrations demanding the ejection of French troops from the West African country. In a further escalation of the situation, Macron has decided to indefinitely close the country’s embassy in Niamey. This came after the expulsion of the French ambassador as well as the denunciation of defense agreements by the transitional authorities.
Niger was one of the last reliable French partners in the region and therefore the withdrawal of troops is a blow to this imperialist power. After the departure of French troops and diplomats, the people of Niger are now taking on France’s economic interests in the country and are demanding the cancellation of exploitative uranium mining agreements with French companies. The events in Niger constitute a chain of disgraceful events for France in the Sahel in recent years.

Congress government had already ordered a judicial probe into the implementation of the Kaleshwaram project, said Ponnam
Hyderabad: Countering State BJP president G Kishan Reddy‘s charges that Congress government was going soft on the past Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government’s alleged irregularities, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday said the Congress government had already ordered a judicial probe into the implementation of the Kaleshwaram project.
Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy should use his good offices and write a letter to union Law Ministry seeking approval for a sitting High Court judge or Supreme Court judge to conduct the probe. The Congress was committed to a detailed probe, Prabhakar said. The Congress government was formed on December 9 and not even a month had passed by. Kishan Reddy was making these charges to derive political mileage in the ensuing Parliament elections, he said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
Right from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to local leaders in the State, all the BJP leaders have been charging rampant corruption in the Kaleshwaram project. The BJP has been in power at the Centre for 10 years, they should have initiated action, he said.
Stating that the Congress government was not against a CBI probe as demanded by Kishan Reddy, the Minister reminded that central probe agencies were working as per the instructions of the union government. The CBI had conducted several probes but the reports were not made public, he said.
Praja Palana will not be extended
The Transport Minister announced that the Praja Palana programme, which was closed for two days, had resumed. There would be no scope for extending the last date of January 6 for filing the applications, he said. People could file their applications regarding their eligibility for the six guarantees. Each family has to submit one application and since the government was providing the forms, people should make good use of the opportunity, he said.
No information on hire bus operators strike
The Transport Minister said there was no information on the TSRTC hired bus operators strike. “They did not approach us or give any notice. If they come to us, we will try to address their issues,” Prabhakar said, adding that the State government would hold talks with auto drivers and resolve their issues.
Attacks BRS working president
Finding fault with BRS working president KT Rama Rao for hosting a lunch for GHMC sanitary workers at Telangana Bhavan, the Transport Minister said he was not a Minister anymore. He should have gone to the sanitary workers and distributed any gifts or others at their work places, he said.
“In the past, the BRS government did not permit any workers or officers to meet us. This lunch programme is just a show for press coverage,” Prabhakar said.
As the Israeli regime has intensified its bombings of northern and central Gaza, Palestinians have taken refuge in already overcrowded shelters and public facilities in the south.
The UN agency said that at least 300 displaced Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on its facilities.
International humanitarian organizations have issued warnings about the spread of infectious diseases in overcrowded camps.
At least 22,185 people have been killed and 57,035 other wounded since the Israeli regime launched the devastating war on Gaza on October 7, the Gaza Ministry of Health said.
Wayne Rooney said it would “take some time to get over this setback” after he was sacked as manager of Championship side Birmingham City on Tuesday following a disastrous spell in charge. The 38-year-old former Manchester United and England star was appointed in October but oversaw just two wins in 15 matches with Monday’s 3-0 thumping by Leeds, their ninth defeat under him, proving the final straw. Birmingham — who have NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority shareholder — are embroiled in a battle against relegation, slumping to 20th from sixth since Rooney took over. “Despite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset,” read a statement from the club. “Therefore, the board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the football club.” Rooney replaced John Eustace, who was sacked just after he had guided Birmingham to two successive wins which propelled them into the play-off places.
“Football is a results business -– and I recognise they have not been at the level I wanted them to be,” said Rooney.
“However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed.
“Personally, it will take me some time to get over this setback.
“I have been involved in professional football, as either a player or manager, since I was 16.
“Now, I plan to take some time with my family as I prepare for the next opportunity in my journey as a manager.”
Rooney’s chequered managerial career is in stark contrast to his stellar playing days.
He was credited with doing a decent job at Derby in tricky circumstances.
He saved them from relegation in 2021 — by a point — after four months in the role.
However, his first full season in charge (2021/22) the club was penalised 21 points for being in administration and English Football League breaches, while they were barred from dealing in the transfer market.
Although they made a decent fight of it they were relegated to the third tier League One and Rooney left in June 2022 with the club still in administration.
His next destination was the MLS club DC United in July 2022.
They finished bottom of the Eastern Conference, but they improved in the 2023 campaign, finishing 12th.
His overall record, though, as a manager is unimpressive with just 41 victories and 73 defeats in 152 matches.
