Tel Aviv to be held responsible for Arouri assassination

Haniyeh made the remarks on Tuesday, shortly after an Israeli drone attack against a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut led to the martyrdom of six people, including Arouri.

We mourn the martyrdom of the leader and great national figure, Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri, as well as Al-Qassam commanders Samir Fandi and Azzam Al-Aqra’, and a group of martyrs, following a cowardly Zionist operation in Beirut, said Haniyeh.

“The Zionist occupation’s assassination of leader Al-Arouri and his brothers is a complete act of terrorism and a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, expanding the scope of its aggression on our people and our nation,” he stated.

“The Nazi-Zionist occupation bears responsibility for this aggression,” he added.

“The pure blood of the martyred leader Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri and his brothers has mingled with the blood of tens of thousands of martyrs of our people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and abroad,” he said.

The Hamas political bureau chief went on to say that “a movement that offers its leaders and founders as martyrs for the dignity of our people and nation will never be defeated.”

“These attacks only strengthen its strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. This is the history of the resistance and the movement: following the assassination of its leaders, it becomes even stronger and more determined,” he said.

Arouri, who used to serve as the deputy head of the Political Bureau of the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian Resistance movement of Hamas, was known as the “architect” of the October 7 operation by Gaza’s Resistance groups.

Lebanon to file complaint to UNSC after Israeli assassination of top Hamas official near Beirut

Lebanon is set to lodge a complaint against Israel at the United Nations Security Council after the assassination of the deputy head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement in a drone strike on the southern suburb of the country’s capital city of Beirut.

Following the Tuesday assassination, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati contacted Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib and ordered an urgent complaint to the 15-member council due to the violation of the country’s sovereignty by Israel.

“The strike is an Israeli crime that clearly aims to bring Lebanon into a new phase of confrontations after the ongoing daily attacks in the south,” Mikati said.

He said that the strike showed that Israel was resorting to exporting its failures in Gaza, adding it had a clear implication for Lebanon in confounding “efforts to remove the specter of war from the country.”

Arouri was killed on Tuesday in a “treacherous Zionist strike” on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh, Hamas announced on its official channel.

Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Rishq called it a “cowardly assassination.”

Arouri was a senior official in Hamas’s politburo and was known to be deeply involved in its military affairs. He had previously headed the group’s presence in the occupied West Bank.

Hamas vows crushing response

Meanwhile, Hamas has vowed to deliver a crushing response to Israel over the the assassination of its senior official Saleh al-Arouri in a drone strike on southern Beirut.

“The crime of assassinating Arouri will be met with an appropriate response from the Palestinian people and resistance factions. All scenarios are open in the aftermath of the murder,” Osama Hamdan, Hamas’s representative in Lebanon and also a member of the group’s politburo, stated early on Wednesday.

He also criticized the “hypocritical” reactions of some international institutions to the targeted killing.

“We call upon Western countries to take effective measures aimed at stopping the [Zionist] occupiers’ crimes against the Palestinian nation,” Hamdan said.

The senior Hamas official also lashed out at the United States for providing the Israeli regime a cover to forge ahead with its bloody onslaught in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that Arouri’s assassination falls within such backing.

“Washington’s allegation that it knew nothing about Arouri’s assassination is simply an attempt to escape from political responsibility,” Hamdan added.

Professional Negligence Caused Tokyo Runway Crash? Cops Probe

Professional Negligence Caused Tokyo Runway Crash? Cops Probe

The crash came just weeks after the global airline industry heard fresh warnings about runway safety.

Tokyo:

Police will investigate whether a crash between an airliner and a smaller plane at a Tokyo airport may involve professional negligence, media outlets reported on Wednesday, as authorities began inspecting the charred wreckage and runway for clues.

All 379 people miraculously escaped the Japan Airlines (JAL) Airbus A350 which erupted into flames after colliding with a De Havilland Dash-8 Coast Guard turboprop shortly after landing at Haneda on Tuesday evening.

Five of the six Coast Guard crew, responding to a major earthquake in the country’s west, died.

Once a recurring safety problem, aviation experts say the number of such runway collisions or incursions have become far less frequent with modern ground tracking technology and procedures.

The crash came just weeks after the global airline industry heard fresh warnings about runway safety.

Japan Airlines said in a statement on Tuesday the aircraft recognised and repeated the landing permission from air traffic control before approaching and touching down.

According to air traffic control recordings available at liveATC.net, the JAL plane was cleared to land at 1745 local time, minutes before authorities say the collision occurred.

The Coast Guard has declined to comment on the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, including why the plane was on the runway and whether it was stationary or moving when disaster struck.

The plane, one of six Coast Guard aircraft based at the airport, had been involved in a mission to deliver aid to regions hit by a deadly earthquake on Monday.

TWO INVESTIGATIONS

Japanese authorities say the cause of the crash remains unclear.

Metropolitan Police Department will conduct an investigate into whether possible professional negligence led to deaths and injuries, news outlets including Kyodo news agency, Jiji and Nippon TV reported, citing police sources.

A police spokesperson said a special investigation unit had set up at the airport and was investigating the runway and planning to interview people involved, but declined to comment on whether they were looking into possible professional negligence.

As well as the police probe, the Japan Safety Transport Board (JTSB) is also investigating the crash, with participation from agencies in France, where the Airbus airplane was built, and Britain where its two Rolls-Royce engines were manufactured, people familiar with the matter said.

Airbus said it was also sending technical advisers to assist in the investigation.

JTSB has recovered flight and voice recorders from the coast guard aircraft, Kyodo news agency reported, citing the agency.

While all passengers and crew were evacuated around 20 minutes after the crash, the aircraft was completely engulfed in flames and burned for more than six hours, the airline said.

Authorities were set to begin work to remove the charred remains of the JAL aircraft in the afternoon, Kyodo reported, while TV footage showed police and fire department personnel inspecting the site of the accident on Wednesday.
