US Woman Arrested In Connection With Death Of 4-Year-Old Daughter

US Woman Arrested In Connection With Death Of 4-Year-Old Daughter

The 4-year-old was identified as Mia Gonzalez.

A woman in California was arrested after her 4-year-old daughter was found strangled to death, ABC News reported. The media outlet reported that the woman was arrested on suspicion of murder after the young girl was found unresponsive in a car in East Los Angeles on Thursday night.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that the woman was identified as Maria Avalos, 38. However, it is not clear if the woman has been charged officially but as per jail records, she is currently in custody.

The 4-year-old was identified as Mia Gonzalez. “Mia was a really good kid,” her godmother Noemi Lopez told KABC. “She was the light of my home. She didn’t deserve this.”

Authorities found Mia in an unresponsive state following a report of a child assault, according to sources citing the police. She was declared dead at the hospital. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner classifies Mia’s cause of death as a homicide, resulting from both strangulation and a sharp force injury to the wrist.

The family told KABC that the investigators said Avalos could have been driving around with Mia’s body for days before she was found.

Mia’s family started a GoFundMe for funeral expenses, which has raised over $1,000.

“With pain in our hearts we are asking for help with the death of our little Mia Gonzalez,” the organizer wrote. “Her dad Jose Gonzalez along with the rest of the Gonzalez family and her godmother Noemi Lopez thank you for any donation for her funeral. God bless you and multiply your generosity.”

Yemen strikes American commercial ship bound for occupied Palestine

Yemen’s Armed Forces strike an American commercial vessel bound for the occupied Palestinian territories in continued support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who have come under a genocidal US-backed war by the Israeli regime.

The operation took place on Wednesday, the forces’ announced through their spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree.

“American Commercial ship, KOI, was targeted with appropriate naval missiles, while heading towards the occupied Palestinian ports,” Saree said.

The forces have been conducting many such operations against Israeli vessels or those heading towards the occupied Palestinian territories’ ports.

The operations have been described as a response to an October 7, 2023-present war and siege that the Israeli regime has been waging against Gaza following an operation carried out by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements.

Nearly 27,000 Palestinians, mostly women, children, and adolescents, have died so far in the war, which enjoys untrammeled military and political support on the part of the United States, the Israeli regime’s biggest ally.

The operation against the merchant ship came just hours after the Yemeni forces fired “several” missiles at USS Gravely, an American Navy warship, just off the Yemeni coast in the Red Sea.

Saree reaffirmed “the forces’ commitment” to continue their operations until the Israeli regime ceases its aggression against Gaza and lifts its blockade against the territory.

The United States and the UK have also conducted several missile attacks against Yemeni targets in response to the Yemeni operations.

The spokesman asserted that “the Armed Forces are to face the US-British escalation with escalation and to carry out more military operations within Yemen’s legitimate [right to] defense in response to the continued aggression.”

Shami's Absence Won't Increase Bumrah's Workload: Irfan Pathan

Jasprit Bumrah’s workload might have increased in Mohammed Shami’s absence but India’s pace spearhead is in a much better shape right now in terms of fitness to handle the rigours of Test cricket, feels former all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Bumrah, who had a lower back stress fracture in 2022, underwent a surgery in New Zealand and was out of competitive cricket for a period of 11 months. He returned during Ireland T20I series in August last year and has remained injury free since then. But the absence of Shami, who is out with a left ankle injury since his stellar performance in last year’s ODI World Cup, has definitely put extra pressure on Bumrah, who is leading India’s attack against England in the ongoing five-match Test series. “Obviously, Shami’s absence does have an effect but that does not mean chances of injury will increase for Bumrah. His action is absolutely perfect now,” Pathan told PTI TV.

Since his return Bumrah has increased his run-up by a step and also a bigger follow through which puts less load on the back because of his slinging action.

Pathan said there is definitely extra pressure on Bumrah in Shami’s absence as the duo share a healthy bowling partnership.

“When there is pressure from both sides, whether it is Shami taking wickets from one side or Bumrah working quietly from one side…

“Bumrah is taking wickets and Shami is working quietly, their partnership not only reduces the pressure on each other but also augurs well for the team,” the cricketer-turned-commentator said.

Pathan is in awe of Bumrah’s dedication and attitude towards the traditional format of the game.

“I have been a big fan of Jasprit Bumrah’s attitude, especially in Test cricket, the way he has given priority to Test cricket despite injuries,” he said.

“Even if he gets injured, I will salute him because he is trying his best. We all have to always keep this in mind.” Having lost the first Test against England by 28 runs in Hyderabad, India will look to bounce back and level the series when the second match starts in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

CPI-M responsible for spoiling Trinamool’s relationship with Congress: Mamata

CPI-M responsible for spoiling Trinamool’s relationship with Congress: Mamata

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the CPI-M of being responsible for deterioration of her Trinamool Congress’ “amicable” relationship with the Congress.

“I was with the Congress at one point of time. My understanding with Congress leadership was quite amicable. But because of the CPI-M, our relationship with Congress got spoiled,” she said while addressing an administrative review meeting at Malda district.

Again holding the Congress responsible for the failed seat-sharing arrangement, Banerjee said excessive demands from the section of its leaders ultimately prompted her to take a decision of moving alone in West Bengal.

“I thought of working together for the sake of the bigger national interest. They do not have a representative in the West Bengal Assembly. They just have two Lok Sabha seats from the state. So I was willing to offer two. I also ensured their victory from those two seats. But they refused to accept that offer. Then I thought it was enough. I will not be able to move along with the CPI-M, which conspired to kill me again and again. They have killed so many people in West Bengal,” she said.

Banerjee also said that the Congress’ understanding with the CPI-M will actually benefit the BJP in West Bengal.

“So it is better that the Trinamool Congress contests alone and make an all-out effort to defeat BJP,” she said.

Referring to the smashing of the rear windscreen of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle during the Nyay Yatra rally on Wednesday morning, the Chief Minister said that the incident actually happened in Bihar just before they entered West Bengal.

“I do not support such acts. I condemn attacks on anybody. But later I learnt that the incident happened at Katihar in Bihar. The particular vehicle entered West Bengal with that smashed windscreen. Nitish Kumar’s party in Bihar has just moved to BJP’s side. On the other hand, others are united. So it is possible that it might have happened there,” she said.

Iran-Backed Militia Responsible For Attack On Troops In Jordan: US

Iran-Backed Militia Responsible For Attack On Troops In Jordan: US

Washington:

The White House said Wednesday that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq militia grouping was behind the weekend drone attack that killed three American soldiers at a base in Jordan. The “attribution that our intelligence community is comfortable with is that this was done by the umbrella group” Islamic Resistance in Iraq — a coalition of Iranian-backed militias — said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

In addition to the three deaths in the drone blast on Sunday at the remote base, about 40 more troops were injured, the Pentagon says.

President Joe Biden says he has already decided on the nature of the US response to the deadly bombing, but has not detailed the plans in public — or the timing.

Kirby repeated the administration’s insistence that “we will respond in a time and in a manner of our choosing, on our schedule.”

“Just because you haven’t seen anything in the last 48 hours, it doesn’t mean that you’re not going to see anything,” he said, adding: “The first thing you see won’t be the last thing.”

One of the factions in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq grouping, Kataeb Hezbollah, announced on Tuesday that it was suspending attacks on US troops.

Kirby said “you can’t take what a group like Kataeb Hezbollah says at face value.”

"Seats Will Be Allocated Properly": Akhilesh Yadav On Talks With Congress

'Seats Will Be Allocated Properly': Akhilesh Yadav On Talks With Congress

Both the Congress and the SP are members of the INDIA alliance

Mainpuri:

Following Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey’s remarks that the Samajwadi Party is adopting a ‘one-sided’ policy in Uttar Pradesh, party’s Chief Akhilesh Yadav asserted on Wednesday that there will be an alliance in the state and that the seats will be allocated ‘properly’.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) announced the names of 16 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The SP has offered 11 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to the Congress.

Both the Congress and the SP are members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), formed to take on the BJP-led Centre.

“There will be an alliance in Uttar Pradesh and seats will be allocated properly. We will try to throw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of the state,” Yadav said while speaking to ANI in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri.

“The Samajwadi Party believes that the candidate who can take on the Bharatiya Janata Party will get the ticket. We are not inclined towards any particular candidate. Efforts will be made to defeat the BJP,” he added.

Earlier today, Avinash Pandey said, “The Samajwadi Party is not following the alliance dharma; SP is making one-sided announcements in the alliance. The list released yesterday also included many seats on which the Congress Party had a claim. What the Samajwadi party is doing is very dangerous and Congress itself is not getting information about it.”

UP Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey also denied talking about seat sharing in Uttar Pradesh and claimed that this list was released without his knowledge.

“Congress follows the coalition dharma well and wherever Congress made an alliance, it followed its coalition dharma,” Avinash Pandey added.

Meanwhile, the SP has fielded Dimple Yadav, wife of former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, from Mainpuri, Shafiqur Rahman Barq from Sambhal and Ravidas Mehrotra from Lucknow.

Dimple Yadav of the Samajwadi Party won the Mainpuri parliamentary byelection in December 2022, defeating Raghuraj Singh Shakya of the BJP by a margin of 2,88,461 votes.

Considered the SP’s bastion, the seat was held by party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and it was vacated after his death on October 10.

Akshay Yadav has been fielded from Firozabad, while from Banda, the SP has fielded Shivshakar Singh Patel.

Before Hemant Soren's Arrest, Drama Outside Raj Bhavan In Jharkhand

Before Hemant Soren's Arrest, Drama Outside Raj Bhavan In Jharkhand

He will be replaced by state minister Champai Soren, a veteran leader of the ruling JMM.

New Delhi:

High voltage drama was seen outside the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi on Wednesday evening before the Enforcement Directorate formally arrested Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in an alleged money laundering case. Mr Soren signed his arrest memo only after meeting Governor CP Radhakrishnan and submitting his resignation. He will be replaced by state minister Champai Soren, a veteran leader of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

“The former chief minister insisted on meeting the Governor before signing his arrest memo,” a senior official in charge of the investigation told NDTV.

Mr Soren, he said, wanted to parade his MLAs before the Governor. “Three buses full of MLAs had reached the Raj Bhavan. But not all were allowed inside. He submitted a list of MLAs and only then he relented,” the official added.

Mr Soren was questioned by the Central agency for seven hours on Wednesday before he went to meet the Governor.

Officials said during questioning, Mr Soren was asked to pen down his statement, which he was unwilling to do. “He was uncooperative, so he was arrested,” a senior official said.

The agency claims Mr Soren and his aides used to forcibly acquire land. “Acres of land have been acquired allegedly by Chief Minister and the people known to him. We have arrested him in a money laundering case for a land scam involving 8 acres of land,” the official claimed.

The agency, he added, has “documentary evidence to prove that the proceeds of crime went to Hemant Soren,” which is why he has been arrested.

The ED claims the investigation points to a sophisticated operation involving a network of brokers and businessmen who manipulated land records to create fake deeds – legal documents that transfer ownership of land or real estate from one party to another – for valuable parcels of land.

“These falsified documents were then used to sell off the land to various individuals and companies, leading to substantial financial gains for the perpetrators,” an official said.

The agency is expected to produce Mr Soren before a special anti-money laundering court in Ranchi on Thursday. The ED will seek his remand for custodial interrogation.

The central agency has so far arrested 14 people in the case, including 2011-batch IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan, who served as the director of the state’s Social Welfare Department and deputy commissioner of Ranchi.

Assembly elections are due in Jharkhand in November.
