Ex-India Star's 'Lord Hanuman' Inspired Praise For KL Rahul Wins Internet

Former Indian cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan lauded KL Rahul‘s gritty century on Day 2 of the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion with a reference to ‘Lord Hanuman’. Rahul was the top performer for India with a brilliant century as wickets kept falling on the other end and he was the main reason why India could reach the respectable total of 245. Pathan took to social media to post a video of Rahul’s batting along with the caption – Sankatmochan (the saviour – another name of Lord Hanuman).

Rahul flexed his batting muscles in the visitors’ middle-order as he scored 101 out of their total of 245, hitting 14 fours and four sixes.

“Batting in the middle-order, you can’t plan all that much, you just have to play the situation in front of you. I tried to walk in with a free mindset. The situation was quite clear, I was batting with the tail and had to take my chances,” he said.

“It was quite difficult batting out there, there was a lot of juice and help for the bowlers and South Africa exploited it really well. So I just tried to get partnerships going.

“I quite enjoy playing here because… there is a fast outfield and you can get boundaries.”

On the other hand, South Africa’s Dean Elgar, who plays his domestic cricket for the Centurion-based Northerns Titans, ended Day 2 on 140 not out — his first Test century at his home ground.

It was an innings which showed brilliant composure on a testing pitch, and skill when it came to punishing loose deliveries. It included 23 fours and came off just 211 deliveries before bad light stopped play with South Africa 256 for five, leading by 11 runs in the first innings.

The left-hander, who retires after this two-Test series, previously scored home Test centuries in Cape Town and Gqeberha (two each), Durban, Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg so he was delighted to complete the set.

Huawei Revenue Soars To Nearly $100 Billion After China Chip Breakthroughs

Huawei Revenue Soars To Nearly $100 Billion After China Chip Breakthroughs

Huawei Technologies Co.’s revenue surged 9% in 2023, capping a dramatic year for a Chinese technology powerhouse that challenged Apple Inc. and US sanctions with a surprise breakthrough in chip technology.

Sales jumped to more than 700 billion yuan ($98.7 billion), their fastest pace of growth in years thanks to a resurgent smartphone business and robust 5G equipment sales. On a quarterly basis, revenue climbed 27% to at least 243.4 billion yuan, based on Bloomberg’s calculations off the annual figure. That’s a sharp acceleration from the third quarter’s slight rise.

Huawei made a splash in 2023 after releasing a smartphone with a sophisticated made-in-China 7-nanometer Kirin processor, celebrated across the country over US restrictions intended to hobble the country’s tech industry. The revelation ignited debate in Washington over whether those curbs had failed, and what more needed to be done.

Components of a Huawei Mate X5 smartphone, including a Kirin 9000s chip fabricated in China.

Huawei, written off as a top smartphone player after the US cut it off from overseas suppliers in 2019, is mounting a comeback. The Shenzhen-based conglomerate has emerged as a symbol of China’s resolve to thwart its geopolitical rival’s curbs. But Huawei itself warned of the dangers Washington and a volatile global economy will pose in 2024.

“After years of hard work, we’ve managed to weather the storm. And now we’re pretty much back on track,” Ken Hu, one of several executives that rotate into the chairman’s role, said in a traditional end-of-year message to staff. “We have to be aware that changes in the business environment are not caused by geopolitical conflict alone, but also by fluctuating global economic cycles.”

Huawei’s Revenue Climbs out of a Trough | Tech leader posts strongest growth since the advent of sanctions

Huawei has enjoyed strong support domestically since its 2019 blacklisting. State-owned telecom carriers awarded Huawei lucrative deals in 5G and cloud computing, and other institutions bought nonperforming businesses from the company.

The Mate 60 Pro – the gadget housing the 7nm Kirin chip – has taken market share away from Apple’s iPhone 15 since its August launch. And Huawei has morphed into a major player in semiconductors, the very sector the Biden administration is focused on curtailing.

Huawei, traditionally a leader in networking equipment and smartphones, is establishing a network of chip plants and receiving an estimated $30 billion of funding from the government and its own hometown of Shenzhen, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association.

Going into 2024, Huawei may have to contend with not just a persistent US campaign to contain China, but also pressure to keep up its technological advances.

That last will become more difficult as already-scarce critical components for chipmaking, such as equipment, become further strained. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has said the US will take the “strongest possible” action to protect its national security when asked how she will respond to Huawei’s breakthrough.

To ensure its technological lead, Huawei aims to expand investment in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

“We need to proactively embrace this window of opportunity and invest our limited resources in the most critical strategic domains,” Hu wrote. “Our overall strategic direction is clear. We will continue to streamline HQ, simplify management, and ensure consistent policy, while making adjustments where needed.”

West buries identity of women alive: senior cleric

Identity, upbringing, love, sacrifice, spirituality, modesty, chastity, struggle, and loyalty are all high concepts that are formed by the woman’s personality, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Javad Haj Ali Akbari said during this week’s Friday Prayers sermon in Tehran ahead of the national Women’s Day.

Criticizing the approach of the West towards women, he said that today, modern Western ignorance,  under the banner of feminism and women’s rights, buries the identity of women alive.

Also, in the liberal view of women, by highlighting women’s gender characteristics, they formed a new form of slavery and exploitation that makes women second-class citizens, he noted.

It is always a summer day in Jennifer Lopez’s world

Many believe that a start to a fabulous New Year sets the precedence for the year to go by. If it really is to be believed, then we would like to begin ours at the closest beach as well, please. But for now, however, we will probably have to settle for living vicariously through Jennifer Lopez’s tropical holiday in St Barts. It may not have been a white Christmas for Jennifer Lopez but that didn’t rule out the possibility of a white mini bikini by the sea moment. This Hollywood star’s bikini stops at nothing and even though It may have been a plain white bikini set, it was Jennifer Lopez after all so there was never a chance for it to be basic in the first place. The singer-actress sets the perfect example that you don’t need a bright colour for a bold beach day, just the right attitude. But then there’s a catch. She added a little colour with a bright pink towel wrapped around her waist that made sure to not cover her washboard abs. One straw hat and sunglasses later, and she was ready to hit the beach.

Hyderabad: Despite complaints over lack of applications and ambiguity on a few aspects, including ration cards on the first day at Praja Palana programme, officials did not address the issues and many people faced similar problems at several centres on Friday as well.

Braving the cold weather, people, especially women, queued up since 6 a.m. at many centres in the city. However, many complained that obtaining the Praja Palana application forms was nothing short of a challenge.

At a few centres, officials distributed the forms free of cost but instructed the people to present local residence identification proof. Application forms were issued to the people only after verifying the local identification proofs (Aadhaar cards and power bills).

“I am from Parbath Nagar and came here seeking the application form. But officials asked me to visit Vivekananda Nagar ward office to get the application” said Srinivasa Rao, an applicant at Mothi Nagar centre.

Irked over the officials’ instructions to get the forms from respective ward offices, many purchased the form at photocopy centres shelling Rs.40 to Rs. 60 per copy. Many photocopy centres made brisk business through sale of the application forms.

Apart from unavailability of application forms, people fumed over ambiguity over ration cards. People submitted their applications for new ration cards by sharing their details on a white paper at Fathima Nagar centre and Sultan Nagar centre, Erragadda.

While officials at Fathima Nagar centre are accepting applications from people for new ration cards and giving a receipt as acknowledgement, those at Bapu Nagar centre did not accept such applications.

“We have been instructed to accept only Praja Palana applications and there are no guidelines on new ration cards applications” , said an official at the centre on the SR Nagar main road.

Amidst this uncertainty, photocopy centres sold the application for new ration cards for Rs.20 each. Many argued with the officials as to why new ration card application forms were not being distributed along with Praja Palana forms.
