Blow For South Africa! Star Pacer Out Of 2nd Test vs India. Reason Is…

South Africa have been dealt a big blow ahead of the New Year’s Test against India, that starts in Cape Town on January 3. South Africa defeated the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team comprehensively in the first Test. Dean Elgar heroic ton and South African pacer’s relentless attack ensured that India lose the match by an innings and 32 runs. However, their pace power will miss the services of Gerald Coetzee in the second Test. India need to win the match to draw the series.

“Proteas and Momentum Multiply Titans fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will miss the second Betway Test against India after developing pelvic inflammation during the first Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The 23-year-old experienced discomfort in his pelvis, which got progressively worse while bowling on day three of the match. He underwent scans on Friday which revealed the extent of the injury,” the Cricket South Africa said in a release.

“Head coach Shukri Conrad has opted to release Coetzee from the squad as a precautionary measure. No replacement has been named.”

Dean Elgar, who will retire at the end of the ongoing Test series against India, will lead the South African team in the final game of the two-match series in place of injured Temba Bavuma. Bavuma has been ruled out of the final Test of the series against India, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said after the conclusion of the first game on Thursday.

Bavuma sustained an injury while fielding on Day 1 of the Test match and as a result, played no further part in the game after scans revealed a hamstring strain.

In his absence, Elgar will captain the side in the final match of his international career, having announced his decision to retire before the series.

After Bavuma went off the field during the first Test, Elgar assumed the role of the captain in South Africa’s win by an innings and 32 runs at SuperSport Park.

Elgar was named the Player of the Match for his fine century in the opening Test.

Zubayr Hamza will replace Bavuma in the squad for the final Test to be played in the at Cape Town from January 3.

Elgar is no stranger to captaincy, having led the Proteas in the past, including the last time India visited South Africa for a Test series. After going 1-0 down in 2021-22, the opener led by example to complete a comeback 2-1 victory.

At least 2 inmates killed, 6 injured in Uruguayan prison fire

The fire broke out when inmates threw flammable liquid through a window of a cell at Comcar, whose official name is Unit 4 Santiago Vazquez, Xinhua reported.

US strike near Syria-Iraq border kills five fighters; resistance retaliates

At least five people have been killed and several others killed after a site in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr near the Iraqi border, where resistance fighters are based, came under a strike by US military aircraft.

Sabereen News, a Telegram news channel associated with Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units – better known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha’abi – reported that there were Lebanese nationals among the victims of the attack that targeted a military installation in the city of al-Bukamal early on Saturday.

The development came hours after Iraqi resistance fighters launched three separate attacks against US military bases in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and neighboring Syria over Washington’s support for the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, in separate statements published on its Telegram channel claimed responsibility for the drone strike on al-Harir Air Base, situated 45 kilometers (27.9 miles) north of the Erbil International Airport, late on Friday.

The group noted that the airstrike was carried out in retaliation for US support of Israel’s bloody war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

There were no immediate reports about the extent of damage at the military facility, or possible casualties.

Earlier, Iraqi resistance forces had fired a barrage of rockets at an American military base in al-Shaddadi town, located about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Syria’s northeastern city of Hasakah.

Another US-run facility in Kharab al-Jir military base in the Yarubiyah district of the same Syrian province was also hit with a number of rockets.

The strikes on the US-run military installation in Iraq and Syria come amid growing anti-US sentiments over Washington’s firm support for Israel’s war against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 21,320 people, most of them women and children. Another 55,603 individuals have been wounded as well.

The Israeli regime launched the war after Gaza’s resistance groups conducted Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, their biggest operation against the occupying entity in years.

Since the onset of the war on October 7, the United States has backed Israel’s ferocious attacks on Palestinian territory as a means of “self-defense.”

The US House of Representatives on November 2 passed a standalone $14.3-billion military assistance package for Israel. The legislation, however, is yet to clear the Senate.

Washington has also vetoed United Nations Security Council resolutions that called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Spy Balloon Used US Internet Service to Send Data to China: Report

Spy Balloon Used US Internet Service to Send Data to China: Report

China has consistently maintained that the balloon was a weather balloon that had veered off course.

Washington:

A US official revealed that the Chinese spy balloon, which traversed the United States in early 2023, used an American internet service provider to transmit periodic data related to navigation and location back to China, CNN reported.

This connection emerged as one of the means by which the US intelligence agencies were able to track the balloon’s location and gather crucial information during its transit.

While the identity of the specific internet service provider remains undisclosed, CNN was informed that the balloon had the capability to communicate with Beijing as it crossed the US.

NBC News first reported that the balloon relied on a US network for communication.

According to the US official, the network connection was not utilised to transmit intelligence data back to China. Instead, the balloon stored such information, including imagery and other data, for later retrieval. The US successfully shot down the Chinese spy balloon in February, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the stored information.

Both the FBI and the Director of the Office of National Intelligence declined to comment on the matter. CNN reached out to the Chinese Embassy in Washington for a response.

China has consistently maintained that the balloon was a weather balloon that had veered off course.

As previously reported by CNN, the US intelligence community assessed that the spy balloon was part of an extensive surveillance program orchestrated by the Chinese military. The balloon fleet had conducted over two dozen missions across at least five continents in recent years, according to US officials.

While the US believed that Chinese Communist Party leaders did not intend for the balloon to cross into the United States, previous reports indicated that the CCP leaders reprimanded the operators of the surveillance programme over the incident.

In June, President Joe Biden suggested that Chinese leader Xi Jinping was caught off guard by the balloon’s presence, stating that Xi “got very upset” when the US shot it down because “he didn’t know it was there.”

Biden drew a comparison to dictators becoming embarrassed when unaware of critical developments, CNN reported.

New Delhi:

As we bid farewell to 2023, it’s time to unveil the most searched Indian on Google for the year. And no, it’s not Orhan Awatramani, or Orry, the social media influencer who became an overnight sensation after his videos and photos with high-profile celebrities went viral.

Surprisingly, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli does not even feature in the top ten.

Topping the charts is none other than Bollywood actor Kiara Advani. Ms Advani’s wedding with fellow Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra soared her popularity to the No.1 spot.

Following closely behind is Shubman Gill, India’s cricket sensation, who captured the hearts of fans with his stellar performances for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the national team.

In a surprising third place is Rachin Ravindra, an Indian-origin New Zealand cricketer whose name sparked rumors of a connection to legendary Indian cricket figures Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. However, these speculations were later debunked by the cricketer’s father, putting an end to the intriguing story behind his name.

Securing the fourth position is Mohammed Shami, the star Indian fast bowler who left an indelible mark with his exceptional performances throughout the 2023 ICC World Cup.

Rounding off the top five is Elvish Yadav, a popular YouTuber and winner of the second season of Big Boss OTT.

The rest of the top ten is made up of actor Sidharth Malhotra, Australian batter Glenn Maxwell, football icon David Beckham, Indian middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, and Australia’s world cup hero Travis Head.

Watch: Inside Look Of Amrit Bharat Train Ahead Of Inauguration By PM Modi

The Amrit Bharat train is equipped with “push-pull” technology.

India’s first two Amrit Bharat trains will be launched by PM Modi today during his visit to Ayodhya. The first inside look of the new superfast passenger train gives a glimpse of several facilities it is equipped with. The train features mobile charging points and mobile holders near every seat, LED lights, floor guide fluorescent strips, CCTV and sliding horizontal windows. With several modern amenities, the Amrit Bharat train also has non-air-conditioned coaches.

It is safer in terms of operation of the train as well,” Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said.

The train also has dust-sealed wider gangways, an aerosol-based fire suppression system in toilets and electrical cubicles, an emergency disaster management light and segregation of reserved and unreserved coaches with sliding doors.

After the flagging off of the train by PM Modi, the railways will conduct a general run of the train for four to five months to see if it causes any technical challenges, said Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The first two Amrit Bharat trains will run between Darbhanga in Bihar to Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal via Ayoidhya and Bengal’s Malda Town to Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminus in Bengaluru.
