"Obviously No…": Marsh Breaks Silence On 'Legs On WC Trophy' Controversy

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh had become a topic of major controversy for putting with his feet on the World Cup trophy during his side’s post-match celebrations. Australia won a record-extending sixth World Cup title last month after beating hosts India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In a viral picture, Marsh was captured putting his his feet on the World Cup trophy as the team celebrated their victory. He was on the receiving end of some harsh criticism, with many even suggesting that Marsh had the trophy and the game by doing the same.

It’s been 12 days since Australia defeated India and Marsh has now finally broken his silence over the controversial gesture.

The 32-year-old has insisted he meant no disrespect for his viral celebration that caused a stir across India.

“There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There is nothing in that,” Marsh told SEN.

Marsh amassed 441 runs in the tournament, but it was Travis Head who stole the limelight with his match-winning century in the final

However, India star batter Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ having set a new record for most runs — 765 — at a single World Cup.

But Australia captain Pat Cummins had Kohli playing on for 54 in final, to leave India 148-4, a crowd of over 92,000 at the Narendra Modi Stadium fell into stunned silence.

Before the match, Cummins — who finished the final with superb figures of 2-34 in 10 overs — had said there was no better feeling for an opposition player than quieting a partisan home crowd.

Cummins, asked if dismissing Kohli was as sweet a moment as he had known in cricket, the 30-year-old replied: “I think so. We did take a second in the huddle just to acknowledge the silence that was going around the crowd.

“It just felt like it was one of those days where it was all made for him (Kohli) to score another hundred like he normally does — so that was satisfying.”

CIA Has Retrieved UFOs From 9 Crash Sites, 2 Of Them Intact: Report

CIA's Secret Office Retrieved UFOs From 9 Crash Sites Around The World: Report

The report adds to speculation that UFOs have landed on Earth. (Representational Pic)

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States has a secret unit, known as the Office of Global Access (OGA), which has been retrieving several crashed UFOs (unidentified flying objects) from across the world, the Daily Mail has reported. At least nine such “non-human craft” have been collected by the agency in top secret operations, the outlet further said in its report. The revelations are based on the accounts of several insiders that Daily Mail spoke to. While some of the UFOs are damaged from crashes, at least two are intact, they said.

The OGA, which comes under CIA’s Science and Technology Directorate, has played significant role since 2003 in collection of aircraft believed to be non-human.

The sources who Daily Mail spoke to were directly briefed by people who were involved in these retrieval missions. One of them said that the US intelligence agency has a system that can “discern UFOs that are cloaked” and when such vehicles land on Earth, special military units are sent to try and salvage the wreckage.

The OGA protects the secrecy of the retrieval, which is carried out by the US military. The agency works with special operations forces such as SEAL teams to carry out the missions, the outlet further said.

The latest revelations add to the growing chorus that the US government could be hiding advanced vehicles that were not made by humans.

In July this year, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer co-sponsored a bill to allow disclosure of “recovered technologies of unknown origin and biological evidence of non-human intelligence”. In the same month, former US intelligence officer David Grusch had gone public, claiming that he had given “proof” of the US government’s possession of alien bodies to the Congress and the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) as part of a whistleblower complaint.

Appearing on a podcast last month, Mr Grusch claimed that the government has recovered multiple types of non-human biological “entities” from crashed alien aircraft. Mr Grusch is an Air Force veteran and served as a member of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

He also said that US government has a “variety” of alien bodies.

15 schools get bomb threat emails in Bengaluru, police say ‘hoax’

Bengaluru: Panic gripped parents here after an email threat was received by more than 15 private schools in the state capital on Friday. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand, however, called the threat a hoax.

He said that there was no need for the parents, students and teaching community to panic. “The threats have turned out to be a hoax. The culprit will be caught soon. “We did send bomb detection and disposal squads. The police have undertaken search operations,” he stated.

Following the development tension prevailed in the premises of the schools. The threat was given on the official email ids of the schools and it came to light when the staff opened them in the morning.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited the premises of one of the schools in Bengaluru and got the information about the development from the police department.

“I observed the news on television and came to know that schools and institutions related to me also got bomb threat. One of the schools was located close to my house. Hence, I came out to inquire. “They showed the threat mail. The investigation so far says it is fake threat. We need to be careful. Parents are concerned. The police are conducting investigations,” Shivakumar stated.

The schools located in Basaveshwaranagar, Yelahanka, Sadashivanagar have been given the bomb threats and most of them are reputed and international schools. Many schools sent back their children as parents rushed to the schools after coming to know about the development.

Last year, a miscreant had sent a hoax bomb threat to 30 reputed schools in Bengaluru. The police had arrested a youth in this connection from Tamil Nadu.

Spanish PM says Israel disdains humanitarian law

In an interview with Spanish state-owned broadcaster TVE on Thursday, Sanchez reiterated that Israel’s military action in the densely-populated strip is unacceptable.

“The footage we are seeing and the growing numbers of children dying, I have serious doubt [Israel] is complying with international humanitarian law,” he said. “What we are seeing in Gaza is not acceptable.”

Sanchez also said the European Union should recognize a Palestinian state since this would help end the conflict and “stabilize” the region, Press TV reported.

“It is obvious that we must find a political solution to put an end to this crisis and this solution requires, in my opinion, the recognition of the Palestinian state,” he said.

“It is in Europe’s interest to address this issue out of moral conviction because what we are seeing in Gaza is not acceptable”, and also for “a geopolitical objective — to stabilize a region”, he added.

When he was sworn in for a new term this month, Sanchez said his foreign policy priority would be to “work in Europe and in Spain to recognize the Palestinian state”.

If there is no consensus among the EU’s 27 member states, Sanchez has said Madrid does not rule out unilaterally recognizing a Palestinian state.

A handful of smaller European countries have taken the step, mainly east European nations like Hungary, Poland and Romania that did so before they joined the EU.

Spain’s parliament voted in 2014 in favor of a resolution calling for recognition of Palestine as a state.

The vote was non-binding, however, and there has been no follow-up.

“The situation has changed,” Sanchez told TVE, adding that Arab nations did not understand the EU’s position.

“During all these years, we have seen how Israel systematically occupied Palestinian territory,” he added in a reference to Israeli settlement expansion.

Israel’s top diplomat said he was recalling the regime’s envoy to Madrid over what he called “outrageous remarks” by the Spanish prime minister questioning the legality of Israel’s military invasion of Gaza.

“Because of the outrageous remarks by the Spanish prime minister, who again repeated baseless claims, I have decided to summon the Israeli ambassador in Spain for consultations,” Foreign Minister Eli Cohen wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The new spat came less than a week after Israel expressed anger with Sanchez and his Belgian counterpart, Alexander De Croo, who demanded the regime stop its massacre of civilians holed up in Gaza.

Tel Aviv also summoned ambassadors of both European countries over their remarks voiced at a joint press conference on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing on November 24.

Cohen claimed the remarks by Sanchez and De Croo repeated “false claims” and “gave terrorism a boost.”

In response, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said Cohen’s allegations were “false, unacceptable and out of place.”

Sanchez on Thursday said European countries should discuss the recognition of a Palestinian state.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the regime’s decades-long campaign of devastation against Palestinians.

According to the Gaza-based health ministry, over 15,000 Palestinians, including more than 6,000 children, were killed in Israeli strikes during the 49 days of war. Many more dead people are feared to be under the rubble.

All the 41 workers who were trapped inside Uttarakhand’s Silkyari tunnel since November 12 were evacuated safely on Tuesday after a multi-agency rescue operation.

They were pulled out through 57 metres of steel pipe on stretchers fitted with wheels.

After being kept under medical observation for a night at the community health centre at Chinyalisaur, they were on Wednesday airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for a thorough examination of their health parameters.

They got trapped after a section of the tunnel between 205 and 260 metres from the Silkyara side collapsed on November 12.

Earlier on Thursday, the AIIMS-Rishikesh declared all the workers fit to return home.

Briefing the media on their health condition, Dr Ravikant, head of the general medicine department, said that the workers were thoroughly examined and their blood test, X-ray and ECG reports were normal.

“They are physically normal and clinically stable. We have given them clearance to return home,” he was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

However, one of the workers from Uttarakhand stayed back at the facility for the treatment of a congenital medical condition, Dr Ravikant said.

A worker from Uttarakhand has been incidentally diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect, an anomaly that is present at birth, he said.

Israel resumes attacks on Gaza after truce deal expires

Children return to their destroyed homes in Deir al-Balah during the temporary truce on November 25, 2023 .

Several explosions and gunfire have been reported in northern Gaza as Israel said it has resumed its attacks on the besieged strip after a temporary ceasefire expired.

Palestinian media outlets also reported fierce clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance fighters on Friday.

The Gaza-based interior ministry said Israel launched artillery strikes on the northwestern part of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, an AFP journalist said a series of Israeli airstrikes also hit the besieged strip. That came as the Israeli military said that it has “resumed combat against Hamas” resistance movement in Gaza.

Earlier, sirens were sounded in Israeli settlements near Gaza as the Israeli regime claimed it had intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza.

The truce, which was extended twice, began on November 24 and ended at 7 am (0500 GMT) Friday. The ceasefire had paused brutal Israeli strikes on Gaza that began in early October.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Tel Aviv also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.

More than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the Israeli strikes.

The truce saw the release of 105 Israeli captives held in Gaza and 240 Palestinian prisoners.

The ceasefire has allowed some humanitarian aid into Gaza but the aid supplies were far below what is needed, according to aid workers.

Want to elevate Sreenidi Deccan to the elite of Indian football: William Alves

Hyderabad: William Alves de Oliveira’s journey at Sreenidi Deccan Football Club has taken time to kick start but the well-travelled Brazilian forward is looking to the future after scoring his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Rajasthan United in the I-League.

In a career that has taken him from Brazil to Saudi Arabia via Portugal and Slovenia, William is settling in well in Hyderabad. “I am very happy with my adaptation here in India – it is a very welcoming country,” he said. “The club has given me all the support so that I can play my best football and in a short time, I have already made great friends which has helped a lot in the beginning of this adaptation.”

Having left Brazilian top tier side Coritiba FC in 2022, William turned out for lower league club Ferroviario but a lack of game time resulted in a lack of match fitness and that in turn delayed his return to full-fledged action for Sreenidi Deccan FC.

“I have adapted to the physicality of the league and picked up the pace of the game. I feel 100 per cent ready to help the team,” he said.

After a few substitute appearances, William was given his first start in the 5-0 victory over TRAU where he did everything except get on the scoresheet but in the next game against Rajasthan United, the goal came from a scrappy corner but they call count.

“We never forget the first goals we score and even more so in that particular moment,” he grinned. “I was very happy with the goal and being able to help our team in some way with the victory.”

Sreenidi Deccan FC finished runners-up in the I-League last season and currently sit atop the points table alongside Mohammedan SC and William has set ambitious targets for the club and himself. “My first objective is to elevate the club to the elite of Indian football and the other goals will follow naturally with the help of my companions,” he concluded.

Chief Secretary level talks on cards to diffuse tension at Nagarjuna Sagar Project

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary-level talks between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are likely to be held anytime on Friday as the primary step to diffuse tension at the Nagarjuna Sagar Project site, where Andhra Pradesh has deployed over 700 armed personnel after taking control of the operations of the Right Canal Head Regulator and 13 of the 26 crest gates.

Telangana State authorities also repositioned the police forces tasked with dam security on Friday morning. They were away for the past one week on election bandobust. Additional reinforcements are also reaching the dam site as a precaution.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) were also posted of the situation. Irrigation officials said that AP continued to draw water from the right canal by lifting the project head regulator. About 25 tmc of water is available above the minimum drawdown level (510ft) of the project and nearly two tmc of it was drawn by it in the past two days.

About 15 tmc would be the actual requirement of Telangana State to meet the drinking water needs of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, besides the districts of Nalgonda and Khammam, till the end of May 2024.

Both states had given their commitment to the KRMB to utilize the water available in the project only for meeting drinking water needs. But Andhra Pradesh, which had already utilized over and above its riparian entitlement for the current water year, had backed out of its commitment and started drawing Telangana share too, resulting in the conflict situation, according to project authorities.

They wanted AP to withdraw its forces as the first condition to restore normality at the dam site. The operational control of the project has been entrusted to Telangana as part of the understanding between the two states after state bifurcation. Telangana has spent over Rs 100 crore meeting the project maintenance needs so far this year.
