Man Who Was Punched By Mike Tyson On Plane Demands Over 3 Crore Payout

Man Who Was Punched By Mike Tyson On Plane Demands Over 3 Crore Payout

Mike Tyson was filmed assaulting a man on a JetBlue flight in April 2022.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson could have to pay out a massive 350,000 pounds (over Rs 3 crores) to a man he repeatedly punched on a plane last year. Tyson was filmed assaulting passenger Melvin Townsend on a JetBlue flight from San Francisco in April 2022. The footage appeared to show the 57-year-old over the back of his seat and delivering a flurry of blows to the man, who appeared to be left with bruises and some bleeding after the incident. Back then, a representative for Tyson said that the passenger had been aggressive. They also claimed that the former boxing champion snapped after the passenger “wouldn’t stop provoking him”.

Now, a year after the incident, Melvin Townsend is demanding 350,000 pounds in damage after incurring hefty medical costs following the incident. According to TMZ, a letter from Mr Townsend’s legal representatives claimed that their client experienced pain in his head and neck as well as a loss of consciousness, concussion and contusion on the head. The man also allegedly suffered nausea, headaches, depression, memory issues, sleep issues, mood disturbances, vertigo and compromised vision in the wake of the violent incident.

According to the outlet, Mr Townsend was without medical insurance at the time of the incident so he claims that he had to pay out significant costs. He is reportedly still receiving treatment on his stomach and is visiting neurologists, a psychologist and a back pain specialist.

Mr Townsend’s legal representatives have now written a letter to Tyson’s representatives outlining their demands. They’ve even threatened a lawsuit if an agreement cannot be reached.

However, Tyson’s lawyer has rejected the call for a settlement, stating: “I have received a shakedown letter related to some instigator’s harassment of Mike a year ago and the aftermath”. “There will be no shakedown payment,” he said.

Notably, Tyson did not face any criminal charges for punching Mr Townsend on the plane. In 2022,  San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said there would be no charges against the former fighter as he was provoked by Mr Townsend before the incident occurred.

The former heavyweight boxing champion, on the other hand, admitted he regreted the incident and claimed he was “irritated and high”. “That’s not me!” he joked when asked about the incident on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Zionist regime warplanes hit sites around Damascus

SANA, citing a military source on Saturday, said Israeli jets carried out an air attack from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, targeting sites in the vicinity of Damascus.

The state-run broadcaster said Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli missiles and shot down several of the projectiles.

“At approximately 1:35 am (1035 GMT) today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air assault from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points near the city of Damascus,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement, reporting no casualties.

Property damage was reported from the attack.

Syria’s air defense confronts Israeli aggression near Damascus

The Syrian Army’s air defense units have repelled an Israeli rocket attack near the capital Damascus, amid intensified strikes by the Tel Aviv regime against the Arab country since the start of the occupying entity’s brutal war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted an unnamed military source as saying in a statement that the Israeli aggression occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

“At approximately 1:35 am (1035 GMT) today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air assault from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points near the city of Damascus,” the statement said, adding that the attack left no casualties.

The military source said the Syrian Army’s air defense units responded to the Israeli missiles and shot down “most of them,” underlining that the aggression led to “only material losses.”

Last week, the Israel regime carried out airstrikes on Syria’s Damascus International Airport, causing the facility to go out of service.

The Syrian Army’s air defense also intercepted and shot down an Israeli missile near the country’s capital, with reports saying the assault caused “material losses.”

Israel has intensified its air aggression against Syria since the regime’s bloody onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories.

The surprise operation was carried out in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Tel Aviv also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.

More than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the Israeli strikes.

Three killed in Israeli shelling in Lebanon

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s state media reported on Friday that Israeli shelling claimed the lives of three civilians in the south of the Arab country.

The reports said the Israeli aggression targeted the Lebanese border town of Houla, killing a woman and her 35-year-old son. One person was also killed in the border town of al-Jebbayn.

Earlier in the day, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah resumed its anti-Israel operations in support of the resistance in Gaza, which saw a truce that was extended several times in recent days.

Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza, Hezbollah has targeted many Israeli positions near the Lebanese border in retaliatory strikes.

The popular resistance movement has warned it could expand its attacks if the Israeli regime intensifies its brutal campaign against people in the Gaza Strip.

Rinku Singh reveals secret behind his humongous six in 4th T20I against Australia

Raipur: India’s hard hitter Rinku Singh revealed the secret behind his massive 100-meter six in the fourth T20I on Friday against Australia at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

The southpaw attributes his power to working out and eating healthy, but he also has some natural power. Rinku led Team India to a 174/9 victory in the fourth T20I in Raipur after being summoned to bat by Australia. Throughout his knock, he hit four fours and two sixes. One of the maximums came in the 13th over of the innings and was enormous. He charged down the pitch and fired Ben Dwarshuis for a 100-meter six.

Rinku was asked how he created so much power to hit such a tremendous six off Dwarshuis’ bowling in a post-match interview with Jitesh Sharma on bcci.tv.

“You know it that I gym with you, eat well. I like lifting weights too, so there is natural power inside me,” Rinku told Jitesh Sharma in a video posted by the BCCI.tv.

Despite his inexperience in international cricket, Rinku has looked in total command during his visits to the crease, which have usually been in difficult situations.

When asked how he is dealing with the strain of playing on such a large platform, the left-handed batter responded, “It’s tough.” “I have been playing for quite some time now and have been part of the IPL as well for the last 5-6 years. The confidence is there. I back myself and try to keep myself as calm as possible,” he added.

Rinku and Jitesh Sharma (35 off 19) added 56 for the fifth wicket to lift the Men in Blue from 111/4 in the 14th over. Jitesh, who hit 35 off 19 balls, admitted he was worried in the middle because it was his first encounter in India.

“[It’s special] when you perform in front of Indian crowd and on Indian soil. The most enjoyable aspect was the partnership I had with you. I enjoyed it a lot,” Jitesh said of his crucial knock.

Talking about the fourth T20I, Rinku (46 runs from 29 balls) and Jitesh (35 runs from 19 balls) stitched a solid partnership in the first inning to help India score 174 runs on the scoreboard.

In the run chase, Aussie skipper Matthew Wade (36 runs from 23 balls) was the only stand-out batter for the away side but still, he could not help his team to clinch a win in the game.

Axar was named the ‘Player of the Match’ after he bagged three wickets and gave 16 runs. Deepak Chahar also picked up two wickets in the game and helped India to win their third match of the series.

'Tricky' Call Between Rohit, Hardik For T20 WC: Nehra Drops 'IPL' Factor

Ashish Nehra spoke on the uncertainity over Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s T20I future.© AFP

Team India’s squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa has been the topic of discussion lately. After reports emerged that veteran Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will miss the white-ball leg of tour (three T20Is and as many ODIs), the BCCI confirmed earlier this week that the star batters will return to the team for two-match Test series, starting December 26. With Rohit rested and vice-captain Hardik Pandya out injured, KL Rahul will lead the team in the 50-over format, while Suryakumar Yadav will get his first taste of India captaincy away from home, having led the side to a T20I series-win over Australia on Friday.

Speaking on Hardik’s injury, former India pacer Ashish Nehra feels the all-rounder’s absence has made the situation tricky for the team.

“I don’t know about captaincy, there is still time. It is a tricky one for the selectors also. Hardik Pandya also got injured and it will be interesting to see when he comes back into the Indian side. If Hardik Pandya plays straight in the IPL, it will be difficult for any selection committee,” Nehra said on Jio Cinema.

Nehra also spoke on the uncertainity over Rohit and Kohli’s T20I future. The Gujarat Titans head coach feels both can return to the T20I side if they want to.

“Somebody like Rohit Sharma. Somebody like Virat Kohli. If they are fit, we do not need to discuss their form. Definitely, they will be there in the Caribbean and USA,” he added.

Rohit and Kohli’s requests to the BCCI for a break from white-ball cricket in South Africa was accepted by the board.

News agency PTI reported that Hardik is no longer an automatic choice for T20 captaincy in the T20 World Cup next year if Rohit decides to play the shortest format.

“Rohit has been offered T20 captaincy but he is in UK on a holiday and wants an extended break after four months of gruelling season till end of the World Cup. But as captain, he has the highest respect for the dressing room and if he agrees to lead India in T20 World Cup, he will lead,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

North Korea Warns To "Destroy" US Spy Satellites If It Tries "Any Attack"

North Korea Threatens To 'Destroy' US Spy Satellites If It Tries 'Any Attack'

Seoul:

North Korea warned Saturday it would “destroy” US spy satellites if Washington tries “any attack” on its space asset, after Pyongyang launched its first military eye in the sky last week.

A spokesman for the North’s defence ministry said it would consider such a move a “declaration of war”, according to a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

The statement came after a US official’s remark that Washington “could deny an adversary’s space and counterspace capabilities… using a variety of reversible and irreversible means”, referring to the North’s successful spy satellite launch in late November.

The US military could undermine the “effectiveness and lethality of adversary forces across all domains”, Sheryll Klinkel, a spokesperson at the US Space Command, told Radio Free Asia this week.

On Saturday, Pyongyang threatened to “destroy” US spy satellites if Washington “tries to violate the legitimate territory” of North Korea, referring to its satellite programme.

If the United States attempts to breach its space rights, the North’s defence ministry spokesman said his country “will consider taking responsive action measures for self-defence to undermine or destroy the viability of the US spy satellites”.

North Korea is barred by successive rounds of UN resolutions from tests using ballistic technology, and analysts say there is significant technological overlap between space launch capabilities and the development of ballistic missiles.

Experts have said putting a working reconnaissance satellite into orbit would improve North Korea’s intelligence-gathering capabilities, particularly over South Korea, and provide crucial data in any military conflict.

Since last week’s launch, the North has claimed its satellite has already provided images of major US and South Korean military sites.

It has not yet disclosed any of the satellite imagery it claims to possess.

The North’s launch of “Malligyong-1” was Pyongyang’s third attempt at putting such a satellite in orbit, after two earlier failures.

Seoul has said the North received technical help from Moscow, in return for supplying weapons for use in Russia’s war with Ukraine.
