Pakistan Cricketer Names Greatest India Batter. It's Not Sachin Or Virat

Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are arguably two of the greatest batters of all time. Nearly every top batting record is held by the two India greats. In Test cricket, Tendulkar hold the record of scoring most number of centuries (51), while Kohli recently surpassed him to become the batter with the most number of tons in ODIs. Tendulkar is also the leading scorer in Tests and ODIs, while Kohli holds the same record in the shortest format of the game.

However, out-of-favour Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan has labelled Rohit Sharma as the greatest Indian batter.

When asked to choose either Tendulkar or Kohli as the greatest Indian batter, Junaid, instead, went for the current Indian team captain, Rohit.

“I am going to say Rohit Sharma (when asked who’s the better batter between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli). He has all kinds of shots in his arsenal. Virat is a great player. But the way Sachin batted in a different era, he would have scored more than 100 centuries in today’s time. Everybody calls Rohit ‘The Hitman’ because of his incredible 264. He has also scored multiple double hundreds (in ODIs). This is rare, because he has done it more than once. He has also hit the most number of sixes,” Junaid said on Nadir Ali Podcast.

After the T20 World Cup in 2022, Rohit had actually been reluctant to play the shortest format as he focused on 50-over cricket.

Earlier this week, Rohit’s request to the BCCI for a break from white-ball cricket in South Africa despite being offered T20 captaincy has been accepted, while Jasprit Bumrah has been named his deputy for the two Tests starting December 26.

“Rohit has been offered T20 captaincy but he is in UK on a holiday and wants an extended break after four months of gruelling season till end of the World Cup. But as captain, he has the highest respect for the dressing room and if he agrees to lead India in T20 World Cup, he will lead,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

More Than 110 Countries To Join Plan To Triple Renewable Energy At COP28

More Than 110 Countries To Join Plan To Triple Renewable Energy At COP28

Dubai:

A pledge to triple the world’s installed renewable energy by 2030 is poised to win support from more than 110 countries at the COP28 climate summit on Saturday, with some pushing to make the deal global by the end of the UN conference.

The European Union, United States and COP28 host the United Arab Emirates have been rallying support for the pledge as a means to the sharp drop in planet-warming emissions needed this decade to avoid unleashing more severe climate change.

“More than 110 countries have joined already,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told the COP28 summit on Thursday of the renewables pledge. “I call now on all of us to include these targets in the final COP decision.”

Whether governments and companies will rally the huge investments needed to hit the goal is an open question. While deployment of renewables like solar and wind has been surging globally for years, rising costs, labour constraints and supply chain issues have forced project delays and cancellations in recent months, costing developers like Orsted and BP billions of dollars in writedowns.

Getting the deal into the final U.N. climate summit decision would also require consensus among the nearly 200 countries present. While China and India have signalled support for tripling global renewable energy by 2030, neither has confirmed it will back the overall pledge – which pairs the ramp-up in clean power with a reduction in fossil fuel use.

South Africa, Vietnam, Australia, Japan, Canada, Chile and Barbados are among the countries already on board, officials told Reuters.

The renewables pledge will be among several other energy-related announcements at COP28 on Saturday, including new measures and funding to combat methane emissions, agreements to cut coal use and the promotion of nuclear energy.

PHASE OUT?

A central decision facing nations at COP28 is whether to agree, for the first time, to gradually “phase out” global consumption of fossil fuels. Burning coal, oil and gas to produce energy is the main cause of climate change.

A draft of the renewable energy pledge, seen by Reuters, called for “the phase down of unabated coal power” and ending the financing of new coal-fired power plants.

Tripling clean sources like wind and solar and doubling energy savings would deliver 85% of the cuts in fossil fuel use needed this decade to meet global climate goals, according to an analysis by think-tank Ember.

The goals will add to pressure on wealthy nations and international financial institutions to unleash the massive investments needed to hit 11,000 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030 – in particular, by reducing the high cost of capital that has stymied renewable energy projects in Africa and other developing nations.

“The mismatch still exists between our potentiality and our limitations to attract investment,” said Najib Ahmed, a consultant at Somalia’s climate ministry.

Africa receives just 2% of global investments in renewable energy. Somalia has the highest onshore wind power potential of any African country, yet one of the lowest electrification rates in the continent, according to the International Energy Agency.

South Korea launches first military spy satellite

Seoul’s satellite, carried by one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets, lifted off from the Vandenberg US Space Force Base in California at 10.19am local time on Friday, The Guardian reported.

The rocket was emblazoned with the word “KOREA” across it.

The Yonhap news agency reported that the satellite successfully reached orbit soon after.

Seoul plans to launch four additional spy satellites by the end of 2025 to bolster its reconnaissance capacity over the North.

“Considering resolution and its capacity for Earth observation … our satellite technology ranks in the top five globally,” the defense ministry official said, as quoted by Yonhap.

The launch comes less than two weeks after Pyongyang successfully put its own spy satellite into orbit.

Chargesheet Filed Against AAP's Sanjay Singh In Delhi Liquor Policy Case

Chargesheet Filed Against AAP's Sanjay Singh In Delhi Liquor Policy Case

Mr Singh was arrested in this case by the ED in October.

New Delhi:

The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday filed a chargesheet against AAP MP Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case, officials said.

The prosecution complaint has been filed before a local court under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

This is a supplementary chargesheet in this case as the agency had filed about five such complaints earlier.

Mr Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested in this case by the ED in October.

The anti-money laundering agency had alleged that an accused businessman Dinesh Arora gave Rs 2 crore in cash at the Rajya Sabha MP’s residence in two tranches.

Mr Singh has rebutted the claim.

The AAP MP was arrested by the ED in connection with its money laundering probe linked to the 2021-22 Delhi Excise policy case and was the second high-profile leader after Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister, to be held in this case.

The AAP that rules Delhi has called the arrests and the case a “political witch-hunt”.

An investigation by the ED has revealed that Arora has given Rs 2 crore cash at Singh’s house on two occasions — Rs 1 crore each time — the agency alleged in its remand application.

The period when the cash was allegedly given was between August 2021 and April 2022.

‘Resistance won’t let Israel accomplish any of its objectives in Gaza’

A senior Hezbollah official says the Lebanese resistance fighters will never allow the occupying Israeli regime to attain its objectives in the Gaza Strip, stressing that resumption of Israeli attacks in the enclave comes on orders of the United States.

“The Gaza war has been an American onslaught ever since it broke out [on October 7]. All positions of US statesmen and developments unfolding on the ground attest to such a fact. Washington is not simply complicit in the Zionist occupiers’ aggression against Palestinians, but it is rather the key decision-maker of such atrocities,” Vice President of the Executive Council of Hezbollah Sheikh Ali Damoush said.

He made the remarks in a sermon to worshipers at the weekly Friday Prayers in the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.

He added that the occupying Israeli regime is nothing but a pawn in the hands of the US to advance its agendas in the West Asia region.

Damoush stressed that “Washington’s efforts to burnish its image before the world public opinion by pretending to avoid air strikes against civilians and providing aid supplies to Gaza will not fool anyone, and cannot help US officials duck responsibility in the ongoing carnage.”

World nations must openly and strongly express their opinions this time, and put pressure on Americans to stop this insane war, the high-ranking Hezbollah official said.

“Nowadays, everyone must take on their moral and humanitarian responsibility in the face of crimes being committed against civilians in Gaza. Resistance factions in Gaza and across the region will never allow Israel to achieve its objectives. The Axis of Resistance will also never allow the United States and Israel to have the upper hand in the region,” Sheikh Damoush said.

The top Hezbollah official emphasized that the resilience and steadfastness of Gazans rendered Israel unable to obtain any military gains in the first round of aggression, stating that the regime failed miserably in its ground incursion into Gaza.

The Zionist enemy had initially set goals for the war in Gaza, the most important of which were the destruction of Hamas resistance movement and release of captives, but it could not reach any of them, Sheikh Damoush highlighted.

“The Zionist regime, which failed to achieve any of its declared goals in the first seven weeks of the Gaza war, will likewise not reap anything this time, no matter how long the onslaught would last.

“The resistance front has not sustained any damage in its military structure, remains strong and capable, and continues its battles determinedly and mightily. The entire Axis of Resistance is standing by the side of Gazans, while the Israeli army is frustrated and has no confidence in achieving its goals,” the top Hezbollah official said.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements waged the surprise Operation al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The Israeli aggression has so far killed more than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

"A Three Format Player": Nehra's Massive Verdict On Team India Youngster

Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Ashish Nehra was all praise for Ruturaj Gaikwad following his sensational century against Australia in third T20I encounter in Guwahati. Gaikwad looked in tremendous form against the Australian bowlers as he raced to a century with the help of 13 fours and seven sixes. It was the first-ever T20I century for the young batter and he maintained a strike rate above 200. In a recent interaction, Nehra said that Gaikwad’s game is extremely well suited for the T20 format but added that considering what he brings to the table, he is a ‘three format player’ for the Indian cricket team.

“Everybody knows what kind of a player he is (Ruturaj Gaikwad). When you talk about Yashasvi Jaiswal, his game is completely different compared to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s. You need solidity in the T20 format as well and that’s what Gaikwad brings to the table. There’s no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad is a three-format player for India,” Nehra told Jio Cinema.

“The kind of elegance that Ruturaj Gaikwad shows is unbelievable, amazing and it was a great, great, great knock,” Nehra added.

Glenn Maxwell smashed an unbeaten 104 as Australia pulled off a stunning chase of 223 in the third Twenty20 international against India on Tuesday to stay alive in the series with a five-wicket win.

The swashbuckling batsman struck his 100 in 47 balls and completed the win with a six and three fours from the final four balls of the 20th over in Guwahati before he flies back home.

It was Maxwell’s fourth T20 century as he joined Rohit Sharma with most tons in the format and the knock eclipsed a 123 by Ruturaj Gaikwad in India’s 222-3.

His 47-ball hundred was the joint fastest in the format for an Australian batsman alongside Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis.

Australia, who won the ODI World Cup after beating hosts India in the final earlier this month, still trail the five-match series 2-1 with the fourth T20 on Friday in Raipur.

Maxwell, in his 100th T20 international and his last of the series, struck eight fours and eight sixes and put on an unbeaten 91-run stand with skipper Matthew Wade, who hit 28.
