Israeli attack kills over 100 in Gaza refugee camp

More than 100 are killed in an Israeli missile attack on the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza.

A brutal Israeli attack targeting a refugee camp in Gaza has killed more than 100 people as the regime continues with its relentless aggression against the Palestinians enclave.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa said in a Saturday report that many people had also been injured in the Israeli missile strike that took place earlier in the day and targeted the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of Gaza.

It said the attack had targeted a residential building belonging to a large family in Jabalia, adding that many members of the family were still missing under the rubble.

The attack comes a day after the Israeli regime resumed its brutal military campaign against Gaza after a seven-day ceasefire deal with Gaza’s ruling Hamas movement came to an end.

Nearly 200 people were killed in the renewed round of attacks on Gaza until early hours of Saturday, according to Gaza Health Ministry authorities.

Israel’s aggression against Gaza started on October 7 hours after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on the Israeli-occupied territories of Palestine near Gaza, killing 1,200 Israeli settlers and military forces.

More than 15,000 people had been killed in Gaza in the first round of Israel attacks before the truce with Hamas came into force on November 24.

Israel had targeted Jabalia and other camps hosting refugees in Gaza in its first round of attacks.

That comes as more than a million people have been displaced in Gaza as a result of the Israeli aggression on the enclave.

Rights organizations and governments have repeatedly condemned Israel’s indiscriminate targeting of places of gathering for displaced Palestinians, including hospitals, schools, mosques and refugee camps in Gaza.

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader Dasoju Sravan on Saturday came down heavily on TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy and the Telangana Congress for their malicious campaign against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Stating that though the Congress was dreaming big on power, their dreams would be shattered soon, Sravan dismissed the exit poll results as part of a paid and manipulated campaign.

“Not even 48 hours have passed since the completion of voting and counting of votes is yet to commence, but Congress leaders are showing their true colours,’ he said, adding that Revanth Reddy and his colleagues were roaming in a fool’s paradise.

They are deriving sadistic pleasure with offensive postings in social media against the Chief Minister and the government. Taking strong exception to postings on social media that Chandrashekhar Rao was getting ready to vacate Pragati Bhavan and that the BRS government was trying to pay Rs.6,000 crore worth of bills to contractors out of turn, he said Revanth Reddy was singularly responsible for such mischief. The Congress leaders were exposing how immature they were, he said.

The Congress complaint to the ECI and Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj alleging diversion of Rythu Bandhu money to contractors and transfer of assigned lands in Dharani was unfortunate.

“This is extremely atrocious and senseless on the part of the Congress leaders,” he said, adding that such campaign was not only intended to malign the image of the Chief Minister, but for humiliating bureaucrats and all government officials.

Besides Revanth Reddy, seven senior leaders with administrative experience like N Uttam Kumar Reddy were part of the delegation that met CEO Vikas Raj. How can the Chief Minister make such decisions when the model Code of Conduct is in vogue? Telangana Congress leaders were completely undermining democratic traditions, he said.

Commenting on the cabinet meeting called for by the Chief Minister on December 4, Sravan explained that it was a regular tradition for the Chief Minister to convene cabinet meetings before dissolving and there was nothing wrong in it. He exuded confidence that Chandrashekhar Rao would return for the third time to continue the good governance and fulfill all his promises.

All set for counting in Telangana: BRS confident, Congress cautious, BJP silent

Hyderabad: After multiple exit polls threw the political scene in Telangana into turmoil of uncertainty ahead of the counting of votes polled on November 30, hectic activity was witnessed behind the curtains on Saturday, especially in the Congress which has suddenly turned cautious. In fact, the party is making moves to ensure that its candidates, in case they win, are constantly under the watchful eyes of senior party leaders.

With the counting of votes slated to be held on Sunday, party sources said all Congress candidates were asked to reach Hyderabad and camp at a private hotel in the city. Senior AICC leaders, former union Minister P Chidambaram, Randeep Singh Surjewala and others either reached the city on Saturday or were on their way, with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar, after being ‘tasked’ with the job of keeping the flock together, also reaching here.

Shiva Kumar, before heading to Hyderabad, alleged that the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was trying to poach Congress candidates, and at the same time, said he was confident that none of the Congress candidates would switch loyalty.

The Congress, apparently buoyed by a few exit polls that predicted victory for it, is also summoning other leaders from Karnataka to Telangana, with AICC general secretary KC Venugopal asking Karnataka Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan to reach Hyderabad and convene a meeting with Telangana Congress leaders, besides tracking other developments.

Party sources said AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge had also issued specific instructions to leaders to be very cautious. There were also reports in a section of media that a few resorts were booked on the outskirts of Bengaluru to shift Congress candidates, in case of a fractured verdict.

This apart, a few senior leaders in Telangana Congress were learnt to have discussed the district-wise poll prospects at Gandhi Bhavan. TPCC Disciplinary Committee Chairman Chinna Reddy and former MP Mallu Ravi discussed the party prospects in erstwhile Mahabubnagar.

Earlier in the day, a delegation led by TPCC president A Revanth Reddy lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj alleging that the BRS was making efforts to divert Rs.6,000 crore meant for Rythu Bandhu disbursement to select contractors. The Congress has also leveled allegations of poll rigging in a few constituencies in the city.

BRS remains confident

Meanwhile, the ruling BRS remained confident of retaining power, with senior leader Dasoju Sravan stating on Saturday that the party would romp home with a comfortable margin.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan, he said the BRS would win more than 70 seats and that K Chandrashekhar Rao would become the hat-trick Chief Minister as desired by the people of the State.

Pointing out that that there always was a big difference between what exit polls said and the actual outcome, he said Chandrashekhar Rao remained well entrenched in the hearts of people and that it would be humanly impossible to unseat him.

Rubbishing the talk of a big victory for the Congress, he sounded a caution to the Congress leaders against nurturing big hopes on the results as the people were firm on handing out a yet another round of drubbing for the party.

BJP goes into silent mode

On the contrary to the discussions and activities in Telangana Bhavan and Gandhi Bhavan, the BJP State office remained quiet.

The saffron party, which had made tall claims about capturing power in Telangana, has been in silent mode after the November 30 polls. Though BJP leaders were claiming that the party would get 20 to 25 seats and play kingmaker, sources in the party stated that after watching the polling pattern in various constituencies, they were not sure of crossing single digits.

State BJP President G Kishan Reddy refused to speak to the media on the number of seats his party was expected to win. It is learnt that Kishan Reddy, during an internal meeting after the polls, reportedly told leaders that everyone knew what the outcome would be and so there was no need to worry about the results.

Gaza death toll rises to 15,207: health ministry

Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra said in a statement on Saturday afternoon that “Since the resumption of aggression against Gaza yesterday (Friday), 193 Palestinians have been martyred and 600 others have been injured, bringing the total number of martyrs to 15,207 people since the aggression began on October 7.”

He said that 70% of the victims of the aggression of the Zionist regime are children and women.

The spokesman of the Gaza Ministry of Health continued to say that, “The occupiers are deliberately targeting the health system and medical centers to disable them. 80,000 people in the north of the Gaza Strip are without food and medicine, and the bombing threatens their lives.”

Al-Qidra also clarified, “Contrary to the claims of the occupiers, there is no safe place in the entire Gaza Strip.”

The Zionist forces resumed bombing the Gaza Strip early Friday after declaring an end to a week-long humanitarian pause with the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.

At least 178 Palestinians were killed and 589 injured on Friday in Zionist airstrikes, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The humanitarian pause began on Nov. 24 as part of an agreement between Israel and Hamas to temporarily halt fighting to allow hostage swaps and aid delivery.

More than 15,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed in Israeli attacks since Oct. 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas.

Around 1,200 Zionist regime soldiers and Zionist settlers were killed, according to official estimates.

"Only Speak When…": India Star's Cryptic Post After Australia Win Viral

The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team sealed the T20I series against Australia with a 20-run win in Raipur on Friday. After solid knocks from Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad guided India to 174/9 in 20 overs, it was time for the bowlers to take over. Axar Patel took three wickets while Deepak Chahar scalped two as India restricted Australia to 154/7 in 20 overs.  Axar Patel was named the ‘Player of the Match’.

On Saturday, a cryptic post by Axar Patel went viral. In the post on X, Axar wrote: “Move in silence. Only speak when it’s time to say checkmate.”

Axar Patel has admitted that he was upset after missing out on the ODI World Cup at home due to an injury and it took him about a week to get over the disappointment and focus on recovery. The 29-year-old was part of the Indian team in the run-up to the World Cup but a left quadricep injury during the Asia Cup forced him out, with Ravichandran Ashwin replacing him in the 15-member squad.

“Obviously, you are bound to be (disappointed). The World Cup was in India, but that injury happened. For the first few days, I was thinking about it, not being able to play due to injury,” Axar told reporters during the post-match press conference.

“But, the team was doing well, so after 5-10 days, I was back to training and was doing my rehab. But, yes, when you are out due to injury and those 5-10 days you are not able to do anything, you do feel a bit bad. After that, I returned to routine life.

“I was upset, but it happened due to an injury; it’s not in anyone’s hands. It’s part and parcel of the game.” Axar made an impressive return to international cricket, claiming five wickets in the series so far with his three-wicket haul setting up the 20-run win for India in the fourth T20I here on Friday night.

“If you are away from international cricket for some time due to injury and then come back, you try to prove yourself and you also have to look after your body, so I also took one match (at a time),” he said.

“When you come from injury you try to keep that part of the body safe. You are not able to give your full effort. It stays in the back of my mind.

“It doesn’t happen in that way because the trainer already tells you that nothing will happen but while sprinting, you feel what if something happens again to the quadricep.

“But the first couple of matches, I was back to routine. Now I don’t feel anything like that and the work that I put in the last one-and-a-half months, I am reaping the reward now, so I am happy overall.”

Centre Bans 'Dark Patterns' On E-Commerce Platforms; Notifies Guidelines

Centre Bans 'Dark Patterns' On E-Commerce Platforms; Notifies Guidelines

The notified guidelines will ensure clarity in the minds of all stakeholders.

New Delhi:

In order to protect consumers’ interest, the government has banned use of “dark patterns” on e-commerce platforms which intend to deceive customers or manipulate their choices.

A gazette notification in this regard as “Guidelines for prevention and regulation of dark patterns” was issued on November 30 by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) which is applicable to all platforms offering goods and services in India, and even advertisers and sellers.

Resorting to dark patterns will amount to misleading advertisement or unfair trade practice or violation of consumer rights. The penalty will be imposed as per the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, it added.

“In the emerging digital commerce, dark patterns are increasingly being used by the platforms to mislead the consumers by manipulating their buying choices and behaviour,” Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh told PTI.

The notified guidelines will ensure clarity in the minds of all stakeholders — buyers, sellers, marketplaces and regulators – as to what is not acceptable as unfair trading practices, the latter being liable under the Consumer Protection Act, he added.

According to the notification, dark patterns have been defined as any practice or deceptive design pattern using user interface or user experience interactions on any platform that is designed to mislead or trick users to do something they originally did not intend or want to do, by subverting or impairing the consumer autonomy, decision making or choice.

For instance, ‘basket sneaking’ is a dark pattern that includes additional items such as products, services, payments to charity or donation at the time of checkout from a platform, without the consent of the user, such that the total amount payable by the user is more than the amount payable for the product or service chosen by the user.

Another dark pattern called “forced action” means forcing a user into taking an action that would require the user to buy any additional goods or subscribe or sign up for an unrelated service or share personal information in order to buy or subscribe to the product or service originally intended by the user.

Likewise, CCPA has specified 13 dark patterns to provide only as a guidance for the industry.

Initially, CCPA had identified 10 dark patterns but after the public consultation another three were included.
