Jabalia another disgrace added to list of Zionists' crimes

Sepaking during a government cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Iranian president condemend the Israeli regime’s deadly attack on Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp.

Ebrahim Raeisi called the savage bombing of the Jabalia refugee camp and the killing of innocent people a continuation of the Zionist regime’s war crimes against humanity in the past 20 days, emphasizing the direct role of the United States in these crimes through equipping this regime with weapons and other types of military aid.

He pointed out that the events in Gaza are an a show of inhumane actions in front of the eyes of the international community, noting that these crimes indicate the failure of international organizations to establish security.

These crimes showed that many international treaties and the United Nations Charter have lost their prestige and effectiveness, he said, adding that the international community must reconsider these mechanisms at the request of public opinion.

The President stated that the decisive vote of the members of the General Assembly to approve the cease-fire resolution in Gaza could lead to the isolation of the United States in the international community while describing the approach of some Western countries in accompanying the Zionist regime in crimes against humanity as a manifestation of double standards in international systems.

Gaza officials have said that dozens of people were killed in the strike carried out by the Zionist Israeli regime military on Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip.

There was an Israeli air attack that targeted a group of residential homes in Jabalia camp in the north of Gaza on Tuesday afternoon.

Al-Jazeera cited the Gaza officials that at least 100 people were killed in the Zionist regime strike.

Boycott Israel campaign: Companies complicit in Zionist entity’s Gaza genocide

By Ivan Kesic

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a powerful speech on Wednesday, reiterated the call for the boycott of the Israeli regime amid the Gaza genocide.

Addressing the Muslim nations, Ayatollah Khamenei said the exports of oil and other commodities to the Israeli regime must be immediately halted while also calling for an end to bombings in Gaza.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution has been the most vocal advocate of the boycott against the regime, which can pave the ground for the annihilation of the illegitimate entity and liberation of Palestine.

Since October 7, the calls for the boycott of the regime, as well as the companies, products and brands that have directly or indirectly aided the occupying regime have grown louder worldwide.

It comes as the death toll in the Israeli bombing campaign in the besieged coastal strip continues to mount, reaching almost 9,000 now after four weeks, most of them children and women.

On Tuesday, a series of bombings targeting a refugee camp in northern Gaza left hundreds dead.

Economic vulnerabilities

The Israeli regime’s economy is not self-sufficient and is heavily dependent on trade and imports, especially energy, as well as exports, which makes it vulnerable to foreign boycotts.

The ongoing war on Gaza has already caused damage to the Israeli economy as the population is forced to stay at home due to regular retaliatory rocket attacks, pushing normal life to a standstill.

In the past three weeks, the main natural gas field has been shut down, airlines have canceled most of their flights, farms have been destroyed for lack of workers, and the mobilization and evacuation of hundreds of thousands has upended many businesses in the occupied territories.

The technology industry, which was once the regime’s flagship industry contributing to its economic growth, began to falter even before the start of the new war on October 7 with foreign investment in tech companies nose-diving in the half last year compared to a record $27 billion the year before.

The financial situation is also dire as the Israeli regime’s fledgling currency, the shekel, has reached a 14-year low, and the benchmark stock index has plummeted approximately 10 percent this year.

Last year, 2.67 million foreign tourists visited the occupied territories and the income was $3.8 billion, as opposed to around $6.6 billion in 2019. Now observers are warning of the tourism collapse next year.

Michel Strawczynski, an economist and professor at the Hebrew University, said he expects a massive blow in the last quarter of 2023 with the likelihood of the economy shrinking by 15 percent.

A long and possibly multi-front war with the Palestinian resistance groups could make the economic downturn even worse, with a much longer time required for subsequent recovery.

The most vulnerable point of the Israeli regime’s foreign-dependent economy, according to most experts, is the organized boycott of its products, which account for tens of billions of dollars every year.

Major trade areas

According to the UN COMTRADE database on international trade for 2022, by far the largest importer country of Israeli products is the United States, with a value of $18.6 billion or a 29% share.

Other significant importers are China, India, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Turkey, France, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, South Korea and Spain.

Combined, European countries with 36 percent imports represent an even bigger market than the US, most of which refers to EU countries. A large share is also made by Asia with 27 percent of imports.

Most of the value of these products is related to diamonds ($9.06 billion), integrated circuits ($5.09B), refined petroleum ($2.73B), medical instruments ($2.36B), and other measuring instruments ($2.32B).

The products are generally exported to private companies whose staff activists can inform about Israeli war crimes or organize pressure campaigns to cancel trade.

A more important exception to this is the export of military technology, valued from $831 million last year to $1.46 billion in the record year 2016, which is again prone to activism.

In August, the Press TV website published an investigation about how the Israeli authorities manipulate data on the effectiveness of their Iron Dome military systems with the aim of exporting and making multibillion-dollar profits from them.

The latest escalation by the regime in Gaza has confirmed the analysis and proved inefficiencies far greater than previously acknowledged. The situation is similar with the Merkava tanks and other weapons whose reputation Israel has manipulated in the same way.

Equally important are the pressures on the regime’s import of foreign weapons, which already included several successful campaigns, as well as on stopping Israel’s import of crude oil, which it receives mainly from Azerbaijan, via Turkey.

The campaign with the hashtag #NoOilForIsrael has been trending on social media in recent weeks with tens of thousands of netizens calling for an end to oil exports to the regime.

Major companies to boycott

Campaigns have in recent weeks been vociferously calling for the boycott of Israeli and international companies and brands that are directly and indirectly complicit in violations of Palestinian rights.

The companies that should be boycotted, as a start, include Siemens, which has been found complicit in the Israeli regime’s project of settler-colonialism through its planned EuroAsia Interconnector.

Hewlett Packard is another company closely tied with the Tel Aviv regime and helps run the biometric system that Israel reportedly employs to monitor and restrict the movement of Palestinians.

The California-based company, according to confirmed reports, provides computer hardware to the Israeli military and maintains data servers belonging to the regime’s police force.

French insurance company AXA Divest is one of the largest investors in Israeli regime-run banks, which are used to finance the construction of illegal settlements and the theft of Palestinian resources.

Puma, the German multinational company that manufactures footwear, apparel and accessories, is the sponsor of the Israeli football federation which includes players and teams from occupied territories.

Starbucks, McDonald’s, and other such brands have also faced increased scrutiny in recent weeks.

Starbucks reportedly sued its workers union after they posted a message in solidarity with Palestinians, which enraged millions of consumers across the world.

The franchises of McDonald’s in the occupied territories announced free meals for Israeli military personnel following the regime’s indiscriminate bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip last month.

Burger King franchises in the occupied territories also faced calls for a boycott after it offered free food to the Israeli military members. The company even posted photos of it on Instagram.

Dominos, Pizza Hut, Subway, Nestle and PapaJohns also had similar offers for the Israeli soldiers, willfully ignoring their participation in the regime’s genocidal campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Google has also been found biased in favor of the Israeli regime after its CEP Sundar Pichai issued a letter recently that expressed support for the regime and sparked calls for the company’s boycott.

Among those companies that have been put on the boycott list by various anti-apartheid campaigns is Ahava Cosmetics, a popular Israeli brand that has production sites in illegal Israeli settlements.

Nestlé, a popular Swiss multinational food and drink company, is believed to be owning 53.8 percent of shares in the leading Israeli food manufacturer Osem.

Keter, an Israeli manufacturer of sheds, raised garden beds, and deck boxes is another big name.

BDS boycott

Data on major export products and active Israeli companies in different countries that should be boycotted can be found on the BDS movement website.

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is a pacifist pro-Palestinian movement that has been promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel for eighteen years.

The organization, with branches in many countries, regularly monitors, collects data and organizes activists for actions, aimed at ending international support for the regime’s oppression of Palestinians.

Among the companies the BDS movement has listed prominently for boycott is Hewlett Packard, an American company worth more than $25 billion complicit in the persecution of Palestinians.

In the past, companies such as Ben & Jerry’s (US) and Orange (France) have featured on the BDS list.

The UN, the World Bank and other experts say that BDS is having an important economic impact on Israel and that this could well grow as the movement develops.

Amid the fresh escalation in Gaza, BDS has published an urgent action alert in which it calls for the development of new effective campaigns and the expansion of cooperation with new interested parties.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the movement called for “urgent global mobilization to stop Gaza genocide.”

“If not now, when? Join or organize solidarity demos in your town or city. Let’s continue to pressure governments, escalate all #BDS campaigns and pressure the @IntlCrimCourt,” It wrote.

Interestingly, a Pew survey found last year that some 84 percent of Americans knew little about this campaign. Today, millions of people are naming brands with ties to Israel and calling for a boycott.

The BDC movement takes inspiration from the South African anti-apartheid struggle and the US civil rights movement, both of which relied on boycotts to press their demands.

Potential of boycott

The potential for the expansion of boycott activism is tremendous, as evidenced by recent large-scale protests in countries considered key trade partners of Israel, as well as public opinion in those countries.

It shows that people are willing to participate in the anti-Israel boycott campaign, especially amid rising awareness about the regime’s genocide and ethnic cleansing in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The importance of the boycott is also evidenced by public opinion in the occupied territories, where local Mitvim polls show that citizens consider the worldwide anti-Israeli boycott as the second most important foreign policy issue, right after the achievement of a stable peace in the regime’s favor.

For comparison, according to the same polls, the Iranian nuclear program is only in fifth place among international priorities, as seen by less than a fifth of respondents.

The fact that pro-Israeli lobby groups, such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the American Jewish Committee (AJC), the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), have put anti-boycott on the top of their priority lists bears testimony to its significance.

The main anti-boycott methods of those Israeli lobbies are smear campaigns against BDS activists and attempts to push through anti-BDS laws in many Western countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, France and Germany.

For these reasons, experts believe it is necessary to warn activists about this lobbying phenomenon and instruct them to inform pro-Palestinian politicians and parties in their countries about such threats.

On 'Second-Class Citizens' Remark For Assam Team, Ex-India Star Apologises

Former India cricketer Ashok Malhotra on Wednesday apologised for his disparaging remarks in which he labelled the Assam players of his time as “second-class citizens”. Malhotra made the remark after Bengal suffered a shock loss to Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy pre-quarterfinals in Mohali on Tuesday. Malhotra, who also coached Bengal after his playing days, said on air, “Humare zamane mein Assam ke team ko second-class citizens mana jata thaa (During my playing days, the Assam team was called second-class citizen.”

A day later, Malhotra, who played seven Tests and 20 ODIs for the country, issued an unconditional apology on X following an uproar, saying, “I apologise profusely if I have hurt Assam people’s sentiments with my comments during the Assam v Bengal game last evening.

“I am sorry. It was totally unintentional and was trying to speak about their progress. I regret it and give an unconditional apology.” Meanwhile, in the match, Assam captain Riyan Parag had notched up his seventh consecutive half-century as his team thrashed Bengal by eight wickets to qualify for the SMAT quarterfinals.

A video of Parag gesturing towards the commentary box and supposedly showing his displeasure with Malhotra’s comments has gone viral on social media. Parag had smashed an unbeaten 31-ball 50.

Riyan Parag notched up his seventh consecutive half-century as Assam defeated Bengal eight wickets to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Assam were powered by an all-round show by their skipper Parag, who had earlier returned with figures of 4-0-23-2, whereas Akash Sengupta’s 3/29 helped them restrict Bengal to a modest 138/8 in their 20 overs.

Invited to bat, a few Bengal batters got starts but failed to convert them into big knocks.

Karan Lal top-scored with 24 while opener Abhimanyu Easwaran made 21. Abhishek Porel made 23 and Kaushik Maity scored a late 21 not out.

Assam lost Denish Das (10) early in the fourth over but Rishav Das did well to hit a 26-ball 31.

Bishal Roy (45 not out, 36 balls, 6x4s, 1x6s) and Parag finished the job for their side, remaining unbeaten on 50 off 31 balls and hit four sixes and two fours in the process.

He charged that the activists of the party were involved in violence coveting power by winning in coming polls.

The government whip predicted that the BRS would be able win the mandate of the electors, while the dream of the Congress of securing power was not going to be fulfilled. He opined that selling of the tickets by leaders of the party would cause loss to it. He stated that BRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao efficiently administered the state and would take care of Telangana in future.

Suman added that the Congress was unable to digest the able administration and statesmanship of Chandrashekhar Rao. He appealed to the Collector to take steps to prevent similar incidents in future.

RWAs Liable To Pay GST For Over-Charging Power Tariff From Flat Owners

RWAs Liable To Pay GST For Over-Charging Electricity Tariff From Flat Owners

RWAs liable to pay 18% GST on electricity bills if flat owners charged more than tariff by discoms

New Delhi:

Real estate developers and RWAs will be liable to pay 18 per cent GST on electricity bills if they charge from flat owners more than the power tariff prescribed by Discoms.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a clarification on the applicability of GST on reimbursement of electricity charges received by real estate companies, malls, airport operators etc from their lessees/occupants.

As per the clarification, where electricity is supplied by the real estate owners, resident welfare associations (RWAs), real estate developers etc as a pure agent, it will not form a part of the value of their supply.

It further said where they charge for electricity on an actual basis that is, they charge the same amount for electricity from their lessees or occupants as charged by the state electricity boards or Discoms, they will be deemed to be acting as ‘pure agent’ for this supply, and hence GST will not be levied.

The CBIC clarification came after doubts were raised on the applicability of GST on the electricity supply by real estate companies, malls, airport operators etc to their lessees or occupants.

It is clarified that whenever electricity is being supplied bundled with renting of immovable property and/or maintenance of premises, as the case may be, it forms a part of the composite supply and shall be taxed accordingly.

The principal supply is renting of immovable property and/or maintenance of the premise, as the case may be, and the supply of electricity is an ancillary supply as the case may be.

“Even if electricity is billed separately, the supplies will constitute a composite supply, and therefore, the rate of the principal supply i.e. GST rate on renting of immovable property and/or maintenance of premise, as the case may be, would be applicable,” the CBIC said.

However, where the electricity is supplied by the real estate owners, RWAs, real estate developers etc as a ‘pure agent’, it will not be considered as a supply, and hence no tax will be levied, it added.

AMRG & Associates Senior Partner Rajat Mohan said the CBIC has provided clarification regarding the tax treatment of electricity supply when bundled with the rental of immovable property and/or maintenance of premises.

“In such cases, this arrangement is considered a composite supply and is subject to a tax rate of 18 per cent. It is important to note that billing for electricity separately will not neutralise the tax liability,” Mohan said.

However, when electricity is supplied by developers and RWAs in the capacity of a “pure agent,” it will be exempt from taxation.

“It is worth mentioning that this clarification may not offer relief to every taxpayer, as the conditions specified in the ‘pure agent’ rules are quite stringent. Moreover, the detailed breakdown of various components within electricity bills, especially in a large apartment community setting, can be complex and challenging,” Mohan added.

EY Partner Saurabh Agarwal said the recent clarification issued by the CBIC has raised significant concerns within the real estate sector.

“Going forward, the said clarification may lead to an increase in the rental cost, as landlords may factor the GST cost on electricity when determining lease rental amounts,” Agarwal said.

In cases where real estate companies convert high-tension lines to low-tension lines and charge higher rates due to transmission loss, the implications of this clarification remain a point of concern.

“This clarification provides the tax department with a basis to address previous issues and potentially issue new notices to landlords who have not charged GST on electricity reimbursements,” Mr Agarwal added.

Restrictions on women in Afghanistan by Taliban receives global criticism at UNGA session

Afghanistan’s women have faced numerous challenges since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Girls and women in the war-torn country have no access to education, employment and public spaces.

Restrictions on women in Afghanistan by Taliban receives global criticism at UNGA session

New York: The restrictions imposed on the Afghan women under the Taliban regime received heavy criticism from the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations, and the Charge d’Affaires of the Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, Tolo News reported on Thursday.

Speaking at the Third Committee, 78th UNGA session, the representative of Turkey, Turkis Ismail Aydil, said that the fundamental rights of all Afghans, including the right to education, should be fully respected.

“We are deeply concerned by the erosion of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan, in particular, for women and girls who have been imposed severe restrictions. The fundamental rights of all Afghans including, the right to education should be fully respected,” he said.

Aydil also pledged continued assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Herat.

“Turkey will continue to stand by the Afghan people to respond to their humanitarian needs and calls for global efforts toward this end,” Tolo News quoted him as saying.

The Charge d’Affaires of the Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said at the meeting that restrictions on women erased the gains made by Afghan women over the past two decades.

“Of utmost concern is the impact on women’s and girls’ rights and fundamental freedoms. The Taliban regime imposed systematic discrimination and strict gender-based restrictions, denying women and girls access to education, employment, and public life. These actions erased the hard-fought gains made by Afghan women over the past two decades and undermined their ability to realize their full potential and contribute to economic development. This systemic oppression created a climate of fear, gender persecution and gender apartheid,” Tolo News quoted Faiq as saying.

Meanwhile, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said at a press briefing that they continue to support the needy people in Afghanistan with their partners.

“Turning to Afghanistan, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says that humanitarians are in a race against time to meet the needs of affected communities before winter sets in after the country was hit by three earthquakes. Night-time temperatures have already begun to dip. In addition to people whose homes have been destroyed, many Afghans — including those in Herat City — are sleeping outside out of fear that their homes will collapse with additional aftershocks. We, along with our partners, continue to support the response but much more needs to be done,” Tolo News quoted Farhan Haq as saying.

Notably, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan has received strong criticism from across the world for the “gender apartheid” in the country.

Afghanistan’s women have faced numerous challenges since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Girls and women in the war-torn country have no access to education, employment and public spaces.

Since the Taliban took over, in the last two years, they have issued over fifty decrees targetting women, highlighted by human rights organizations.

According to Khaama Press, these decrees have highly impacted marginalized women from Afghan society as they enforced such stringent policies.

A startling 80 per cent of Afghan girls and young women, who are of school-going age, are currently denied access to education under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, a new report by Care International stated, according to Khaama Press.

It has been more than two years since girls above grade six have been prohibited from attending schools in Afghanistan, and it is unclear when those doors will reopen, Tolo News reported.

Afghanistan remains the only country to ban girls’ and women’s education, resulting in a substantial economic toll of approximately USD 5.4 billion.

Hyderabad: MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday slammed the Congress leader for his false allegations on MIM party at an election meeting in Kalwakurthy in Telangana.

During the meeting in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, Rahul Gandhi alleged that MIM takes money and works for BJP, also asserting that MIM fields its own candidates in constituencies where Congress competes against the BJP.

Asaduddin Owaisi responded by posing four questions on X, formerly Twitter, questioning financial support in various political scenarios.

Here are his questions:

1. How much money did we receive to support the UPA in the 2008 Nuclear deal?

2. How much money did we receive to support Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government in the no-confidence motion in Andhra?

3. How much money did I receive to meet and convince the present AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in jail for his support in the presidential election nominee for Pranab Mukherjee?

4. Did you lose the election in Amethi for free or did you receive money?

He emphasized that he is not accountable for Congress’ electoral defeats from 2014 onwards.

Macron Says "Hate The Debate" On Value Of Jewish Versus Palestinian Lives

Macron Says 'Hate The Debate' On Value Of Jewish Versus Palestinian Lives

“All lives matter in this world,” stressed the French PM, speaking in English to students. (File)

Astana, Kazakhstan:

French President Emmanuel Macron said today he “hates the debate” over the value of “Jewish lives” and “Palestinian lives” and called for “civilians in Gaza to be protected first”.

“I hate this debate dividing people and saying: ‘For me Jewish lives are more important’ or ‘for me Palestinian lives would be more important’. This is crazy,” Macron said on a visit to the Kazakhstan capital.

“All lives matter in this world,” he stressed, speaking in English to students.

Civilians in Gaza “have nothing to do with the terrorist attacks”, Macron said.

Hamas gunmen killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, when they rushed to the Gaza border into Israel on October 7 and took 240 hostages, according to Israeli officials.

Israel has relentlessly pounded Gaza in retribution for the worst attack in the country’s history, killing 8,796 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

“You have to attack and punish the terrorist groups but civilians are not the ones to attack.” Macron said.

“You have to protect civilians in your counter attack … in order to focus on the terrorist groups.

“I want to make this distinction because all lives matter in this world,” he stressed.

This was why France and other EU leaders called for a humanitarian pause in the fighting, Macron said.

“We have to protect first civilians in Gaza. Because they have nothing to do with these terrorist attacks,” he added

Ambulances evacuated wounded residents out of Gaza to Egypt in a first today, with hundreds of foreign passport holders also poised to flee the territory after three weeks of war.

High and mighty from Delhi no match for KCR, says KTR

The message must be loud and clear, KTR said, calling upon BRS party workers to ensure representation from every family at the election rally to be organised at Kamareddy

High and mighty from Delhi no match for KCR, says KTR

Hyderabad: The high and mighty, who have started descending in hordes from Delhi and elsewhere in India to take on BRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, must bear in mind that he might look frail, but had emerged stronger winning many a mighty battle and the forthcoming elections would be one more addition to his string of victories, BRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao said on Wednesday.

Addressing the party cadre and functionaries at Biknoor in Kamareddy assembly constituency, from where the Chief Minister is contesting, Rama Rao also said the turnout at the massive rally to be organised at Kamareddy on November 9, the day the Chief Minister would be filing his nomination, should be a message for the opponents. The message must be loud and clear, he said, calling upon party workers to ensure representation from every family at the election rally.

Kamareddy was the place where from ‘Dhoom Dham’ started. It was where the fight for Statehood gained momentum. And it should from there that BRS ‘Car’ engine should rev up further for the final round, he said.

Fighting battles was not new for the State. It has been fighting with Delhi to undo the injustice meted out right from the days of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. It was meted out a raw deal by successive rulers from the Gandhi family. Denial of Statehood from 2004 to 2014 cost several lives, the entire credit of which went to Sonia Gandhi, he said.

The State was now fighting Narendra Modi for its rightful due. The fight was now between the self respect of the State and the hegemony of Delhi. Besides several union ministers and big leaders from Delhi, Chief Ministers from some 17 States were about to a make beeline to the State to join the campaign of the BJP and the Congress.

But they would all be no match to the leadership of Chandrashekhar Rao, who could win every heart in the State implementing welfare measures, Rama Rao said, adding that just like there was hardly any village in the State without a place of worship, there was hardly any family left in Telangana that was not a beneficiary of KCR’s welfare initiatives.

Ever since the Chief Minister announced his decision on August 21 to contest from Kamareddy as well, the entire State had started debating why he opted for this constituency to file his nomination.

Kamareddy had grabbed more public attention compared to the other 118 assembly segments, he said, adding that the Chief Minister had responded positively to requests from the constituency to take the decision. He was firm on giving Godavari water to the constituency. His decision to contest from Kamareddy would be a boon to the people of the region and would help resolve every issue being faced by the people once and for all.

As for the opposition parties, they had no takers for Kamareddy tickets. Even Congress candidate Mohd Ali Shabbir might move to Nizamabad or any other constituency as a face saving measure instead getting into the fray with the Chief Minister. The BJP nominee too was reluctant to contest from Kamareddy initially, but of late appeared to have no other choice.
