Zionists shell UNRWA school in Gaza with phosphorus bombs

Zionist fighter jets on Thursday targeted a school affiliated with the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees or UNRWA in a refugee camp west of Gaza City with smoke bombs, Anadolu Agency reports.

The local Al-Aqsa channel reported that Israeli war jets targeted a UNRWA school in the Al-Shati camp with internationally banned incendiary white phosphorus weapons.

In the video, smoke can be seen billowing from the bombs as they are being dropped in the schoolyard of the agency, where several displaced people have taken refuge due to relentless Zionist airstrikes in Gaza since Oct. 7.

“They are targeting schools with phosphorus,” said a member of the public in the video, pointing to one of the smoke bombs.

Under the Geneva Convention, attacking schools is prohibited, as they are civilian facilities. Zionist regime has targeted schools as well as hospitals, houses, and houses of worship, claiming military targets were there or nearby.

As of 0725GMT, no media outlets had reported any injuries resulting from the strike, and no official Palestinian or Israeli sources have commented on the incident.

The smoke from white phosphorus, when inhaled, can cause sudden lung injuries and suffocation.

White phosphorus can cause second-and third-degree burns to the skin and readily ignites upon contact with oxygen. When used as a bomb, it not only has explosive effects but also leads to fires.

Have No Shelter: Chaos At Border Crossing As Afghan Migrants Leave Pakistan

'Have No Shelter': Chaos At Border Crossing As Afghan Migrants Leave Pakistan

The Taliban authorities are struggling to register the sudden wave of returnees.

Torkham:

Diapers litter the ground at an Afghan border crossing where thousands of Afghan families have waited for days after being forced to leave Pakistan, with frustration mounting as resources dwindle.

Islamabad issued an ultimatum in early October to 1.7 million Afghans it says were living illegally in Pakistan: leave by November 1 or face arrest and expulsion.

The government said it was to protect Pakistan’s “welfare and security” after a sharp rise in attacks it blames on militants operating from Afghanistan.

The order spurred thousands of Afghans to hurriedly pack what they could and rush to the frontier, not willing to risk police action or deportation, even if it meant abandoning their whole lives or the possibility of giving birth along the way.

“We left in a panic,” said Shaista, who came from Peshawar city, close to the border.

“We packed our luggage in the middle of the night and left. It’s better to come by our own consent than face deportation with insulting treatment.”

But they have landed in a dire situation after two days waiting on the Pakistani side of the border and another three waiting to be registered in Afghanistan.

“We left our belongings behind. Now we have no shelter here,” she told AFP.

– ‘There is no water’ –

The Taliban authorities are struggling to register the sudden wave of returnees.

UN agencies have set up services for those arriving but have strained under the surge in demand.

Numbers are mounting daily — at least 29,000 people crossed into Afghanistan on Tuesday alone — sparking an “emergency situation” at the Torkham crossing between the Afghan and Pakistani capitals, a border official said.

The Taliban government has said mobile toilets, water tanks and other supplies had been deployed to the border but drinking water was scarce on Wednesday, recent returnees told AFP.

“There is no water,” Shaista said. “We are begging people for water and can hardly get even one bottle.”

It’s not just water, said Mohammad Ayaz, 24, who crossed the border with 10 family members.

“The problems we are facing are related to women, children, food, water, shelter and medical services. We have no medicines here to treat our children,” he told AFP.

Along with that desperation, uncertainty about how long they will have to wait for registration and what comes next has increased the frustration. Many of them have nowhere to go, having lived years, if not their whole lives, in Pakistan.

“There are fights, people are losing patience. I am young, I will somehow bear this situation but how can a child bear all this?” said Ayaz.

He and others called for the government to speed up the registration process and provide support at Torkham and beyond.

“It’s been two days we are stuck here,” said Gulana, who is in her 60s.

“My son was detained by the police in Pakistan, and we escaped in a panic. Now we don’t know what to do here, nobody is guiding us or telling us what to do next.”

India ranks number one in Osteoporosis cases

There are 1.5 million osteoporosis cases identified in men due to lack of calcium, genetics and other factors.

India ranks number one in Osteoporosis cases

Hyderabad: India ranks number one in the total number of osteoporosis cases, said doctors on the eve of World Osteoporosis Day.

There are 1.5 million osteoporosis cases identified in men due to lack of calcium, genetics and other factors.

Every year, October 20 is observed as World Osteoporosis Day which emphasises on increasing awareness about having strong bones, treatments, tips to maintain healthy bones, etc.

Having good bone health is essential for healthy functionality in life. Bones play an integral role in shaping our strength, mobility activities and lifestyle in general.

Osteoporosis is a disease, where complex and complicated molecular pathways interact to reduce the bone and mineral density.

Considering the importance of having bone strength and the risks of getting osteoporosis, this year’s theme is designed as “Build better bones”, intending the significance of bone strength as a foundation to leading a healthy lifestyle.

According to Dr Sai Laxman Anne, Chief Consultant Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon, KIMS Hospitals, Kondapur, Osteoporosis is a medical condition where bones become brittle and weak.

“Usually, bones do not show signs of fracture until there is a hard fall or accident of any sort. But with osteoporosis, people experience fractures with minor falls, sudden movements or bumps. Osteoporosis prevails with aging, causing fractures in most of the elder people,” he said.

In India, around 61 million elders have osteoporosis among which 80 per cent are women.

“There are several factors associated with osteoporosis. Some of them are female gender, advancing of age, menopause, low body mass index, family history, poor diet, smoking, alcohol consumptions, etc. Research shows that in India, osteoporosis occurs 10-20 years earlier when compared to western countries. It is important to investigate the risk factors of osteoporosis which is an important strategy useful in forming an effective approach for managing the disease.”

According to Dr P. S Jaya Prasad, Consultant Orthopaedics, Kamineni Hospitals, it is estimated that globally, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men aged 50 years suffer from an osteoporotic fracture which makes it one of the leading causes of long-term pain and disability in elderly people. Because of poor infrastructures, facility, lack of awareness, only 20 per cent with osteoporosis are getting diagnosed. Any person who gets osteoporosis tends to lose bone density by 20 per cent.

“To avoid such risks and increasing factors of this disease, organisations around the world come together with people to create awareness, take tests for early diagnosis and check for bone density. These lifestyle practices can help ensure healthy bones and prevent osteoporosis long term,” he said.

Dr SVL Narasimha Reddy, Orthopaedic Surgeon, SLG Hospitals, believes that lifestyle modifications can help prevent the increase of osteoporosis along with intake of vitamins, use of pharmacologic agents.

“Although there is no cure for osteoporosis, treatment can stop the loss of bone density and reduce the risk of fractures. But, diagnosis has to be started at early stages because once a person’s bone density is declined, it cannot be fully reversed. It is also important to prevent fractures as they may not fully heal in people with this disease. This condition starts developing when a person starts to lose bone density faster resulting in a weak bone. Once this starts, it may not be possible to regrow the lost bone. Usually, people lose bone density over time and the bone reaches its peak at 25-30 years. Due to this reason, regaining bone density at older age becomes challenging.Whereas, when a young person has osteoporosis the bone can recover and allows the person to regain bone density,” said Reddy

According toDr V. S Abhilash Kumar, Consultant Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy Surgeon, Amor Hospital, India ranks number 1 in the total number of osteoporosis cases. There are 1.5 million osteoporosis cases identified in men due to lack of calcium, genetics and other factors. People are slowly falling prey for this disease. In addition, there are few myths surrounding this disease. One such myth is that it is caused due to aging.

“Osteoporosis can also effect a young person. Research shows osteoporosis is linked to other health conditions, when a person is healthy with improved metabolic fitness, they will have stronger bones. Another myth is that bone density test is painful. It’s wrong, bone density test is not painful, it is a simple test that uses small amount of radiation or ultrasound when a person lies on their back and it approximately takes 10 minutes. Getting adequate sunshine, calcium and having simple 30-minute workouts everyday will help strengthen muscles.”

Hyderabad: An IPS probationer undergoing training at the SVP NPA at Shivarampally was targeted by a sextortion gang recently.

The trainee, whom the police did not identify, received a WhatsApp call from an unknown person who had a brief conversation with him. On getting suspicious, the trainee disconnected the call.

In his complaint, he told the police that after disconnecting the calls, he has been receiving calls and messages from different phone numbers asking him to transfer money or his nude photos and videos that are with the gang would be made public. The gang sent him screenshots of the contacts of his social media accounts to threaten him and force him to pay up.

The Cyberabad cybercrime police registered a case and are investigating. The police suspect some gang from West Bengal or Haryana could be behind it.

"Rajasthan Polls Are Also About Congress' Future": Ashok Gehlot

'Rajasthan Polls Are Also About Congress' Future': Ashok Gehlot

Assembly elections are due in the state on November 25. (File)

Jaipur:

The upcoming assembly election is not just about Rajasthan, it is also about Congress’ future, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Wednesday, and added that the country needed the party.

Urging party leaders to reject politics and make Congress candidates win the polls, Ashok Gehlot said that such leaders could later be given official positions by the government.

The party would resolve the issues with those who could not be given a ticket to contest the polls, the chief minister said.

Assembly elections are due in the state on November 25, and counting of votes will be done on December 3.

“Even if we could not give tickets to those who stood by us and to those who saved our government, we have told them to help elect candidates who are contesting for the party. Leave all kinds of politics. Nation is first. The entire country today needs the Congress party,” Ashok Gehlot said.

“The election is not just about Rajasthan but it is also an election of Congress’ future. If they (party leaders) will make the party win the elections then they will be adjusted in boards after elections. If needed, we will give them the status of ministers.”  The chief minister said that it is natural that there is some resentment after ticket distribution among some party workers even though it was done after collective discussions. Still, there can be some complaints, he added.  He exuded confidence that Congress would win the elections.

Replying to a question on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot said, “It is a bulldozer government there. Is this the way to rule? Is it a democracy? Some people become happy due to their words. But if there is no rule of the law then we will also not be secure. Rule of the law is important for everyone.”  “They have destroyed law and order. You can imagine where they are taking the country. I don’t want to get into it,” he said.
