NDTV Poll Of Polls Results Live Updates: Advantage BJP In Rajasthan, Congress Gains In Telangana

NDTV Poll of Polls 2023 Live: Chhattisgarh is the one state from which the Congress has the highest hope.

NDTV Poll of Polls 2023 Live: The voting in the battle for five states ended today after Telangana voted on 119 seats. NDTV’s Poll of Polls suggests a win for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh with a majority. Meanwhile, the Congress can turn the tide and likely get a majority in Telangana. The Poll of Exit Polls predicts a close context between the MNF and ZPM in Mizoram.

In Rajasthan, the voting took place on 199 out of 200 seats. While the Congress hopes to break the Rajasthan jinx and return to power again, the BJP’s election campaign focused on an “anti-incumbency” wave in the state. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed confidence that he will form the government for the fifth time in Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, in Mizoram, the Chief Minister, Zoramthanga has exuded confidence that there won’t be a hung assembly in Mizoram and his Mizo National Front (MNF) will form government again.

Chhattisgarh is the one state from which the Congress has the highest hope in this round of elections. In Telangana, it’s a fight between the ruling BRS, and the BJP and Congress. Prime Minister Modi extensively campaigned in the state to form a BJP government in the southern state.

Warning: The exit polls do not always get it right. They have been way off the mark in the past.

With almost every exit poll giving the Congress an edge in Chhattisgarh, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, TS Singh Deo, said while the numbers have come as a relief, he believes the party will win 60 of the state’s 90 seats.

He said all the leaders of the party sat together and decided not to leave any room for speculation.

Iran Urges UNSC to Ensure Lasting Ceasefire in Gaza

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was scheduled to attend a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council about the implementation of Resolution 2217 in New York on November 29.

The US government’s delay in granting visa prevented the Iranian diplomatic delegation from taking part in the meeting.

However, Iran’s UN mission is registering the text of the speech that Amirabdollahian had prepared as a document at the UN.

What follows is the text of the ministerial statement:

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Mr. President, Your Excellency Mr. Wang Yi the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China
Distinguished Delegates

I am delighted to share with you in this important meeting of the United Nations Security Council some points on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This meeting is convening today on the 29th of November which was named 46 years ago by the General Assembly after the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. We take it as a good omen. Holding such a meeting to attract attentions to the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is of immense significance and value per se. However, such meetings will really prove fruitful only if they culminate in tangible measures to alleviate the pain and malady of the oppressed people of Palestine and ensure a permanent cessation of interminable genocide of Palestinians especially in Gaza.

We must courageously and frankly admit that the United Nations, and in particular the Security Council, so far, has failed to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities towards Palestinians and the question of Palestine. Such failure is greatly blamed on the unquestionable support the United States is giving to the occupying regime and preventing any effective measures to make Israel accountable. This is in fact an ethical fiasco and depreciation of conscience for the international community and the United Nations system.

Notwithstanding, the main responsibility rests with the powers that adamantly prevent the Security Council from fulfilling its roles as enshrined in the UN Charter.
More than any other time, reference is made today to Resolution 2217—a resolution which is considered a small step in the right direction, even though it was approved belatedly and with poor substance. Nevertheless, this resolution needs to be strongly enforced and followed. The natural expectation of the international community was that the Security Council would take action immediately after the start of indiscriminate attacks on Gaza and prevent the further murder of innocent humans. Who can camouflage that the all-out aggression of the occupying regime against Gaza, as one of the most densely-populated regions of the world which has been under absolute blockade for more than 17 years, as well as the killing of thousands of innocent people more than 70 percent of whom women and children, do not constitute a threat to international peace and security? The intensity and volume of the killing of civilians during 50 days of disproportionate attacks on Gaza are unprecedented. The number of children and women killed in Gaza alone far exceeds the total number of women and children killed in various conflicts across the world during the past year including the war in Ukraine. This is while the murder and suppression machine of the racist regime has killed or wounded more than 3,100 Palestinians in the West Bank in just two months as reported by the New York Times on November 25.
Who can ignore the reality that blind and indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza by 2,000-pound bombs and other prohibited weapons such as phosphorous bombs, which make no exception for hospitals, schools, mosques and churches, contain all the elements of grave international crimes including war crime, genocide and crime against humanity? How can one justify the inaction of the Security Council towards the horrible human catastrophe in Gaza?

Mr. President
Now the Security Council and its member are posed to a very severe test. Under circumstances in which the besieged and occupied Gaza is under the most savage military attacks and has lost more than 16,000 of its children of whom 6,000 are minors and 4,000 are women, and under circumstances in which more than half of northern Gaza has been reduced to rubble, nothing other than guaranteeing a complete cessation of the criminal attacks of Israel can partly compensate the moral shame of the international community before the people of Palestine and the Muslim world.
One must be alert that humanitarian pause, while being partly fruitful, is not turned into a tool for cleaning the past crimes and create an opportunity for perpetrating new murders.

Mr. President
The Palestine tragedy as a human, moral and legal issue with global dimensions, did not begin as of October 7. The occupier regime and its supporters and defenders should not be permitted to distort reality and spread lies and disinformation aimed at marginalizing and overshadowing the long reality of occupation, suppression, humiliation and genocide of a nation for more than eight decades. Violence and conflict in the Middle East have never been a choice of the people of Palestine and the nations of the region.

Violence is a commodity imposed on our region as the result of the occupation and racial megalomania of the Zionist ideology. The continued and suppressive occupation which began as of 1920 was institutionalized in 1948 and caused forced displacement of one million Palestinians and was later expanded through force and military coercion, and continues to date through the seizure and confiscation of Palestinian lands and expansion of illegal settlements. All these reflect and represent a racist and narcissistic mentality which regards no human rights for the people under occupation. Murdering and exterminating the people of Palestine should not become normalized.

This is a legal and moral obligation and duty in accordance with the joint article one of the four Geneva conventions of 1949 and the Genocide Convention of 1948. Perpetrators must not be allowed to play the victim and evade accountability and responsibility before the international community and keep on genociding the Palestinian nation by resorting to and misusing the crimes committed by others decades ago in another continent against the Jews and by accusing critics of anti-Semitism.

The legitimate and legal resistance of the Palestinian nation to achieve the right to self-determination as well as defending human rights and human dignity of Palestinians are an entitlement admitted in the UN Charter and international law. And no person, state or organization cannot depose Palestinians of such an entitlement. Branding the legitimate struggle of the people of Palestine for their self-determination right as terrorism is a blatant and deliberate violation of the UN Charter and the peremptory norms of international law and is Immoral and reprehensible.

Mr. President

Distinguished colleagues

The Islamic Republic of Iran, within the framework of its principled policy of opposing aggression and use of force in international relations as well as occupation, racism, and racial discrimination, and in line with its responsible policy to safeguard regional and international peace and security, continues to support the legitimate and lawful movement of the Palestinian nation to eliminate occupation and apartheid imposed on Palestine.

Under the present conditions, what needs to be the priority of the UN Security Council and all governments is to guarantee a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, prevent the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland, and immediately deliver humanitarian assistance such as food and medicine to the people of Gaza and reconnect electricity and fuel.

All Palestinians, including seven million refugees and Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, are directly and indirectly mourning their lost loved ones. The majority of the population of Gaza has lost their houses and properties during the Israeli attacks.

The world cannot remain indifferent to this obvious cruelty, which is a gross violation of human rights and humanitarian rights and constitutes an example of the most severe international crimes. Impunity of the designers, perpetrators, and accomplices of these atrocity crimes is a license and incentive for repeating such crimes.

Based on this, the trial and administer of justice for the perpetrators of these crimes should be placed high on the agenda of the international community. Governments that for decades have presented themselves as self-proclaimed claimants of human rights and humanitarian rights, and have greatly utilized international mechanisms as a tool to tarnish and smear developing states, under the pretext of violating human rights – on very small scales and incomparable to what happened in Gaza – have failed in the test of honesty and true belief in their claims. Hypocrisy and double standards in relation to human rights will distort the rule of law in international relations and prepare the ground further for criminals and violators of international law.

This is not something to be appreciated by any responsible and peace-seeking state.
With the hope of liberation of the people of Palestine from the yoke of the occupation and suppression of occupiers.

Thanks for your attention.

Ashok Gehlot Likely To Lose Power In Rajasthan, Shows NDTV Poll of Polls

Ashok Gehlot is looking to become a four-time Chief Minister of Rajasthan (File).

New Delhi:

The BJP is set to defeat the Congress and return to power in Rajasthan – a state that has voted out the ruling party in every election for the past three decades, an NDTV poll of polls indicated Thursday evening. Rajasthan voted in a single phase on November 25. Results will be announced on Sunday.

The Congress’ Ashok Gehlot, it seems, faces a daunting task in his bid to become a four-time Chief Minister, with eight of nine exit polls giving the BJP a comfortable, if not a strong, victory. The BJP may get 104 seats and Congress 86, suggested the poll of polls.

The biggest predictions in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party are Republic TV-Matrize, which gives the BJP a massive 115-130 seats, and the Times Now-ETG, which gives it 108-128 seats.

Neither gives the Congress more than 75 seats; Times Now gives it a (low) lower range of 56.

There are 200 seats in the Rajasthan Assembly, although polling was held for only 199 after the Congress’ Gurmeet Koonar, the Karanpur MLA, died at Delhi’s AIIMS. The majority mark, though, is still 101.

Among the other exit polls, Jan Ki Baat, P-Marq and TV9 Bharatvarsh-Polstrat all gave the BJP a minimum of 100 seats; the first two gave the saffron party an upper margin of over 120 seats.

ABP News-C Voter and Dainik Bhaskar also gave the BJP big wins.

ABP News said the BJP could win between 94 and 114 seats compared to the Congress’ 71-91, while Dainik Bhaskar believes the BJP could claim 98 to 105 seats, and the Congress no more than 95.

The only exit polls that might give the Congress some hope are India Today-My Axis and India TV-CNX, although even India Today gave the BJP an upper margin of 100 seats and 86-106 for the ruling party.

India Today gave the Congress 94-104 seats, with the BJP just marginally behind at 80-90. Significantly, these (and TV9 Bharatvarsh) are the only exit polls to give the Congress over 100 seats.

Health Warning: Exit polls often get it wrong.

NDTV’s Pre-Poll Survey

The pre-poll survey gave the PM a five per cent lead over Mr Gehlot in the battle of big names, suggesting the BJP had an edge. While that seems to be the case – based on exit polls – the Congress will take heart from the fact only 24 per cent of respondents were dissatisfied with their government.

READ | ‘Modi Factor’ To Give BJP Edge In Rajasthan? NDTV’s Opinion Poll Says…

A survey of over 3,000 people – across 30 of Rajasthan’s 200 Assembly constituencies over a week starting October 24 – threw up a mixed bag of results, giving the ruling Congress a thumbs-up on some issues, such as state-run schools and hospitals, and handing it a ‘frowny face’ emoji on others.

What Happened In 2018?

In 2018 the Congress benefitted from the ‘revolving door’ policy and won 100 seats to the BJP’s 73. This was a significant margin even though vote shares were almost equal. The BJP’s haul underlined the strength of the anti-incumbency factor; in 2013 it won 163 seats and 45 per cent of the votes.

The BJP’s 90-seat bleed was snapped up by its rivals, with the Congress gaining by 79 seats.

The Congress did not, though, win majority on its own and needed support from Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party, which won six seats, before Ashok Gehlot could be sworn in as Chief Minister.

Amid economic slowdown, EU military spending hits record high of 240bn euros

The European Union (EU) has hit the record-breaking 240-billion-euro spending figure – virtually 262 billion dollars – for military expenditure in 2022, amid economic slowdown across the region.

The figure was disclosed in the latest European Defense Agency (EDA) report released on Thursday. It was up by 6 percent from the previous year, marking a noticeable eight-year consecutive growth trend, according to the EDA Defense Data 2022 report.

Among the 27 EU member states, 20 increased defense spending. Six countries witnessed growth rates exceeding 10 percent.

“Our armed forces must be ready for a much more demanding era,” said EU foreign policy Chief Josep Borrell, who heads the EDA.

The whopping amount has been spent at a time when the 27 EU economies’ pace of growth has gone down to approximately 0.8 percent, according to the European Commission.

“Adjusting to these new realities first and foremost means investing more on defense,” Borrell said.

The military investment has come at a high price for the European Union. Supplying arms to Ukraine has added heavily to the inflationary pressure building up in the euro area during the post-pandemic recovery and pushed up consumer prices, especially for energy and food sector.

The EDA said in its annual report that an all-time high of 58 billion euros was allocated to defense investments in 2022, “overwhelmingly towards the procurement of new equipment.”

Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, inflation in the countries that form the European Union increased from 2.6 percent in 2021 and then to 8.4 percent in 2022.

Energy and food inflation accounted for more than two-thirds of this record-high inflation in 2022.

Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing has said Germany will once again become the “sick man of Europe” if structural issues are not addressed immediately.

EU countries have drained their stockpiles sending weaponry worth tens of billions of euros to Ukraine.

Brussels has been scrambling to get European defense companies to ramp up production to cope with the new demands due to the war.

The EU has also pushed member states to sign joint contracts and countries have begun clubbing together to order howitzer shells for Ukraine and their own forces. The EU is expected to fall short of a 12-month target of sending one million shells to Ukraine by March.

EU’s defense strategy needs to include Ukraine

Deepfake campaign: BRS complains against Congress to ECI

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the Congress accusing the latter of using deepfake technology to create false content, targeting BRS leaders and candidates contesting in the Assembly elections in the State. The party appealed to the Commission to initiate immediate action against unlawful use of technology by the Telangana Congress leaders.

In its complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer and also the Director General of Police here, the BRS said reliable sources had provided information indicating that the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) was “involved” in the creation and dissemination of “fake audio and video” content through the use of deepfake technology and artificial intelligence.

The fabricated content features prominent BRS leaders including Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Ministers KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao, MLC K Kavitha and other contesting candidates of the party, it said.

“We anticipate that this manipulated content is likely to be circulated across various social media platforms. We urge you to take necessary actions to identify and restrain the TPCC and its various legal, non-legal and invisible handlers from creating and disseminating such misleading content in media format, including but not limited to image, videos and memes,” BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar said.
