Ghaziabad:

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his two minor daughters for the last four years and threatening to kill them if they objected, a police official said on Monday.

Upon noticing the girls, aged 15 and 17 years, traumatised and attending their classes half-hearted, a teacher sought to know the reason from the elder sister, the official said.

The girl narrated their plight to the teacher, who in turn informed the police.

The sisters told the teacher that after leaving the school, they used to sit in a park till their mother returned from work. They said that their father had been jobless for many days and their mother was the only breadwinner, the police official said.

ACP of Masuri Naresh Kumar said the accused was arrested on Sunday.

This company promotes healthy living with presticide-free produce

Hyderabad: In a world where fresh and pesticide-free produce is increasingly sought-after, one woman in Hyderabad has not only embraced this movement but has also turned it into a thriving business.

Chandana Duggineni, the co-founder of Seedbasket Agro Services, has transformed herself from a homemaker into a horticultural hero, achieving a remarkable turnover exceeding Rs 1 crore.

Chandana, alongside her husband Naveen Gade, embarked on this green journey in late 2016 with a clear mission in mind – to provide families with a safe and sustainable source of vegetables. Their motivation was simple: they wanted to shield their children from the toxins and chemicals present in conventionally grown vegetables.

“We didn’t want to raise our kids by feeding them toxic food,” Chandana, a graduate in MCA, explained. “We wanted to reconnect with our roots and grow our own food, just like our parents did in their villages.”

Starting with their modest balcony, they began growing vegetables at home. Chandana journeyed back to her roots in Khammam, where she forged partnerships with local farmers to procure the seeds they needed. The couple utilised their own farmland within the city limits and reached out to reliable vendors from different corners of India.

This desire for healthier, chemical-free living was just the beginning. The duo realised that there was a significant gap in the market for an online platform that catered specifically to home gardening enthusiasts. They saw an opportunity to not only provide native and desi vegetable seeds, but also a wide range of products necessary for home gardening, including grow bags and more.

Seedbasket Agro Services began making profits within just six months of its launch, and accolades and recognition followed.

The duo also supply native Indian seeds to NRIs who long for the taste of homegrown vegetables in their gardens. Collaborating with NGOs such as Helpage India, Center For Rural Development, and Dram Society, they’ve made it possible for aged and rural individuals to have access to home garden kits.

“In the last two years, the company has seen remarkable growth, boasting an impressive turnover of over Rs 1 crore,” Chandana revealed. With a customer base of around 30,000 and a monthly order volume of 1500, she says, Seedbasket Agro Services is flourishing.

24 Patients, Including 12 Newborns, Die In Maharashtra Hospital In A Day

The dean of the hospital blamed the deaths on medicine and staff shortage

New Delhi:

Twelve newborns and as many adults died at a state-run hospital in Maharashtra’s Nanded in 24 hours, the hospital dean said, blaming a shortage of medicines and hospital staff.

Of 24 deaths, 12 adults were suffering from “various ailments, mostly snake bites”, the dean of Nanded’s Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital said.

“Six males and six female babies died in the last 24 hours. Twelve adults also died due to various ailments, mostly snake bites. We faced some difficulty since various staff were being transferred,” he said.

“We are a tertiary-level care centre and the only such place in the 70 to 80-km radius. So, patients come to us from far-off places. On some days, the number of patients increases and it creates a problem for the budget,” he said.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

“There is an institute Haffkine. We are supposed to buy medicines from them but that also didn’t happen. But we did buy medicines locally and provided them to the patients,” the dean added.

Refuting the dean’s claims that there was a shortage of medicine and funds, the hospital, in a press release, said: “Essential medicines are available in the hospital. The hospital has Rs 12 crore in funds. For this financial year, Rs 4 crore has been approved. Other patients are being treated as necessary.”

“There were 12 adult patients (five male and seven female) and 12 children. Among adults, four were suffering from heart disease, one from poisoning, one from gastric disease, two from kidney ailments, one from obstetric complications, and three were accident victims. Among the children, four in the terminal stage were referred from private hospitals,” the statement added.

Calling the deaths “unfortunate”, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told reporters in Mumbai that more information will be sought about what happened at the hospital and action will be taken.

A committee has been formed to probe the deaths, Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Director, Medical Education and Research, Maharashtra, told PTI.

“A three-member expert committee from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) district has been formed with a mandate to submit a report by 1 pm tomorrow. I am personally visiting the hospital to review the situation,” he informed.

The Opposition in Maharashtra launched an all-out attack on the Eknath Shinde government in the state, saying the “triple-engine sarkar (of the BJP, Eknath Shinde Sena and the Ajit Pawar faction of NCP) should take responsibility”.

“A total of 24 lives were lost. Seventy are still critical. There is a lack of medical facilities and staff. Many nurses were transferred and their replacements were not given. Many machines are not working. The hospital’s capacity is 500, but 1,200 patients are admitted. I will speak to Ajit Pawar (about this). The government should look into the matter keenly and take control of the situation,” former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress veteran Ashok Chavan said after visiting the hospital today.

“The triple-engine sarkar is responsible for the deaths of all the 24 innocent people. They should be made accountable,” Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule said.

“24 deaths, which include 12 newborn babies, in 24 hours in the government hospital in Nanded happened due to lack of supply of medicine by the state government. Shame on a government that only advertises festivals and events,” a spokesperson of Sharad Pawar’s NCP, Vikas Lawande, wrote on X.

This comes less than two months after 18 patients died in 24 hours in August at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa in Thane. Twelve of them were above the age of 50.

The patients were suffering from complications due to kidney stones, chronic paralysis, ulcers, pneumonia, kerosene poisoning, and septicemia among other ailments, Thane civic commissioner Abhijit Bangar had said.

Following the deaths, Authorities shifted patients, who were not in critical and all new admissions, to the Civil Hospital nearby.

Our cultural heritage propelled nation to global centrestage: Shah

New Delhi: India’s rich culture has kept the country united through the ages and its cultural heritage has propelled the nation to the global centrestage, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday.

In a post on X after attending a grand cultural event here, he also said that on account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “relentless efforts” the cultural values of the country are “showing light to humankind”. Shah attended the closing ceremony of the Swasti Zonal Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav organised by the Culture Ministry at the Central Park here late in the evening.

“Our rich culture has kept our nation united through the ages. It is our cultural heritage that has propelled our nation to the global centre stage today.

“On account of PM @narendramodi Ji’s relentless efforts our cultural values are showing light to humankind. Attended the ‘Swasti’ Zonal Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav organized by the @MinOfCultureGoI today. The festival hosted the beauty of our traditional dances and music in their truest forms,” he posted on X.

The Union home minister also shared a few pictures from the event.

Medvedev: British training troops in Ukraine could be legitimate targets

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned that British soldiers training Ukrainian troops in Ukraine would be legitimate targets for Russian forces along with German companies building Taurus missiles.

Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, in a post on Telegram on Sunday first directed his ire towards recently appointed British Defense Minister Grant Shapps, who stated in a newspaper interview that London wants to deploy military instructors to Ukraine, in addition to training Ukrainian armed forces in the UK or other Western countries.

“(This will) turn their instructors into a legal target for our armed forces,” Medvedev wrote in his post. “Understanding perfectly well that they will be ruthlessly destroyed and not as mercenaries, but namely as British NATO specialists,” he added.

More than 20,000 recruits from the Ukrainian armed forces have already received training in the UK since the beginning of 2022 under the British-led Operation Interflex.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday met with Grant Shapps discussing ways to further boost Ukraine’s military, including its air defenses.

“I am profoundly grateful to the UK for all the financial, humanitarian, and military support, including crucial long-range capabilities. We discussed further defense cooperation and steps to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense,” Zelensky said.

https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2023/09/28/711683/UK-French-defense-ministers-Ukraine-talks-military-aid

Medvedev also addressed Germany, condemning those pushing for Berlin to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles that have the capability to strike Russian territory.

“They say this is in accordance with international law. Well, in that case, strikes on German factories where these missiles are made would also be in full compliance with international law, he said.

“These morons are actively pushing us towards World War Three,” Medvedev added.

Medvedev emphasized that such actions by the West increase the likelihood of World War Three.

Those advocating such actions are actively pushing the world closer to a devastating global conflict, he said.

With tensions escalating, his remarks highlight the growing tensions between Russia and the West in the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

The US-led Western allies began flooding Kiev with weapons and ammunition shortly after Russia launched its “special military operation” in the ex-Soviet republic in February 2022.

Moscow has repeatedly warned Western leaders against the continued supply of weapons and munitions to Ukraine, pointing out that such measures will not stop Russian troops from defending its objectives and that arming Kiev would only prolong the war.

US Republican Launches Bid To Oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

US Republican Launches Bid To Oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

A far-right Republican lawmaker launched a bid to oust US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his post.

Washington:

A far-right Republican lawmaker launched a bid on Monday to oust US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his post, reigniting an intra-party battle between traditional conservatives and firebrand supporters of ex-president Donald Trump.

Matt Gaetz, a representative from Florida, entered his resolution from the House floor “declaring the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives to be vacant.”

The resolution, which requires a majority to pass, will not be voted on immediately.

Gaetz is a leading figure within the small group of far-right Republican legislators who brought the government to the brink of shutdown with their refusal to adopt fresh federal funding without deep spending cuts.

The group also opposes sending additional support to Ukraine, saying the money would be better spent in the United States on combatting illegal immigration.

The hardliners hold a de facto veto over legislation in the House, given Republicans’ narrow victory in the midterm elections last November.

After the chamber passed a last-minute measure on Saturday to extend funding — at current levels and without new Ukraine aid —  Gaetz said he would move to oust McCarthy.

“I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid,” Gaetz told CNN on Sunday.

In order to gain the speaker’s gavel in January, McCarthy was forced to make concessions to the far-right bloc, including a rule change that allows one member to file a such a “motion to vacate.”

The timeline for next steps on Gaetz’s resolution is variable, and it is not yet clear if Democrats would come to McCarthy’s aid.

Gaetz said on Sunday he believed he had enough Republican support to oust McCarthy.

“The only way Kevin McCarthy is speaker of the House at the end of this coming week is if Democrats bail him out,” Gaetz told CNN.

US President Joe Biden has lambasted both McCarthy and the hardliners for failing to live up to an agreement forged around a debt crisis months ago that was meant to avoid a damaging shutdown fight — and for stripping out support for Ukraine.

“Stop playing games, get this done,” Biden said during a press conference on Sunday, adding that he was “sick and tired of the brinksmanship, and so are the American people.”
