Indian boxer Preeti Pawar signed off with a bronze medal after losing the 54kg semifinal bout to reigning flyweight champion China’s Chang Yuan at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday. Preeti, who has already secured an Olympic quota, put up a good show but went down 0-5 to Chang. Both Southpaw boxers showcased their high skill and ring IQs in the opening three minutes. While Preeti looked to poke and peck with a right hook, the Chinese kept landing right hooks. At one point, the 19-year-old Indian landed a double jab, followed by two right hooks and two body shots to score crucial points. But Chang replied aggressively with a right cross and a flurry of jabs. (Asian Games Medals Tally | Asian Games Full Schedule)

The Chinese boxer was cleaner with her punches and the four of the five judges ruled in her favour in the opening round.

In the second round, Preeti dialled up the intensity, trying to break Chang defence. But the Chinese, who enjoyed the crowd support, defended well, moving around the ring. Chang was warned a couple of times for hitting behind the head of Priti.

Having done enough, Chang continued to defend in the final three minutes to take the win.

KTR questions Modi on promises made to Telangana

Launching a broadside against the Prime Minister, the Industries Minister said the BJP government had been delaying implementation of assurances made to Telangana

KTR questions Modi on promises made to Telangana

Hyderabad: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi arriving in Telangana again on Tuesday, Industries Minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao demanded fulfilment of promises, including the establishment of Kazipet coach factory, Bayyaram steel plant and national status to Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PRLI).

The Minister also stated that if the BJP government failed to fulfill these three promises, then the party would definitely lose deposits in 100 seats in the ensuing elections.

The Prime Minister is arriving in the State to address a public meeting at Nizamabad and participate in different programmes. This is his second visit to the State in three days after the Mahabubnagar visit on Sunday.

Launching a broadside against the Prime Minister, the Industries Minister said the BJP government had been delaying implementation of assurances made to Telangana as per the AP Reorganisation Act since last 10 years.

“How long will you continue the lies and when will Telangana’s suffering come to an end. Your heart is filled with Gujarat and Telangana continues to get a raw deal,” Rama Rao tweeted.

Setting up a coach factory, Kazipet and steel plant at Bayyaram have been sidelined and the proposal for ITIR, which would have offered one lakh jobs to youth, has been shelved, he said.

“The assurance to sanction national status to our irrigation project has been trampled upon. Palamuru was betrayed for decades and you have once again ditched Palamuru” Rama Rao said.

The Minister further said in the 10 years of BJP’s rule at the Centre, it was not just four crore Telangana people but 140 crore Indians who were betrayed.

The Prime Minister had promised to double the farmers’ income by 2022, housing for all, two crore jobs for youth annually and controlling rising fuel prices, he reminded.

“Will you only fulfill the assurances made to your friend or will you fulfill promises made to people of the country” asked Rama Rao.

Making light of the Prime Minister’s announcement to set up the National Turmeric Board in Telangana, he said it was similar to the Women’s Reservation Bill. Much hype was created during elections but there was no clarity on the implementation, he said.

“In your ten years regime as Prime Minister, save for Adani, what were the benefits received by common people?” Rama Rao asked.

Iran Army's drone power can respond to any threats from foes

Sayyari made the remarks on Monday ahead of a large-scale joint exercise involving drones from the Iranian Army’s four units of Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, and Air Defense Force across large parts of central and southern Iran.

Underlining that the production of drones has made sharp progress over the past years, he said Iran, by using the expertise of its youth in knowledge-based companies and the Army, has put the production of all kinds of drones on the agenda and managed to achieve valuable results.

“Our drone power is very high and we can count on it and it will bring us success in any operation,” Sayyari said, adding, “The drone power of the country’s Army and Armed Forces is among the top drone powers in the region. The combat power of our country’s Armed Forces has reached a position that can respond to any threats on land, sea, and air by using the drone power.”

Last month, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said demand for the purchase of Iran’s homegrown sophisticated drones is much greater than the country’s production, stressing that Iran has turned into a “big drone power” that is outperforming major world powers.

Iranian military experts and engineers have in recent years made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient.

Iranian officials have made clear that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never open for negotiations.

The RBI Governor-headed six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is scheduled to meet for three days beginning October 4. Governor Skhatikanta Das will announce the decision on Friday (October 6).

Rug Pull In Crypto: What It Is And How To Avoid The Scam

Rug Pull In Crypto: What It Is And How To Avoid The Scam

Rug pull is a major problem in the cryptocurrency industry.

Scamsters have defrauded thousands of people of an estimated Rs 200 crore across Himachal Pradesh by promising high returns in a short period through investment in crypto assets.

The gang, whose kingpin is yet to be arrested, used a Ponzi scheme method to lure people and also manipulated the prices of the cryptocurrencies they used to swindle money from investors.

According to the police, scamsters launched new crypto assets and also jacked up the prices of these digital currencies, which is called a rug pull in the crypto world.

So what is this rug pull?

A rug pull is a type of cryptocurrency scam in which developers of a new cryptocurrency project abandon the project and take investors’ money with them. This can happen in a number of ways, such as by disappearing with the project’s liquidity, disabling the project’s website and social media accounts, or making it impossible for investors to sell their tokens.

Fraudsters also dump their own tokens on the market, causing the price to plummet in the rug pull.

Rug pull is basically derived from the English phrase to pull the rug out from under someone, means to remove support to somebody suddenly.

Rug pull is a major problem in the cryptocurrency industry, with billions of dollars lost to such scams each year. In fact, a recent report by Chainalysis found that rug pulls accounted for over 36 percent of all cryptocurrency scams in 2021.

How to avoid rug pull

There are a number of ways to avoid becoming a victim of a rug pull. The crypto investors need to be watchful about a few factors:

1. Do your research: Before investing in any cryptocurrency project, be sure to do your research and understand what the project is trying to achieve. Look at the team behind the project and see if they have a good track record.

2. Be cautious about high returns: Be wary of projects with high returns and low risk. If a project promises high returns with low risk, it’s probably a scam. Cryptocurrency is a volatile asset class, and there is no such thing as a guaranteed investment.

3. Social Media hype may not always be true: Beware of projects that are heavily hyped. Scammers often use social media and other platforms to hype up their projects. Be wary of any project that is being heavily promoted without any substance behind it.

4. Risk tolerance: Invest only what you can afford to lose. Cryptocurrency is a high-risk investment, so only invest what you can afford to lose.

India asks Canada to withdraw 40 diplomats by Oct 10: Reports

New Delhi: India is learnt to have told Canada to withdraw around 40 diplomats from the country by October 10 amid worsening ties between the two nations, according to reports.

The reports have said that New Delhi has conveyed to Canada that if the diplomats are not withdrawn by the deadline, they will lose their diplomatic immunity. There are more than 60 Canadian diplomats posted in India.

Last month, after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had alleged in Parliament that Indian intelligence agents may have been involved in the murder of Sikh pro-Khalistan hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the diplomatic relations have hit an all time low between the two nations. Following Trudeau’s allegations, both the countries had expelled a diplomat each. India had also termed Canada’s allegations as “politically driven”.

On September 21, while replying to questions related to a possible reduction of Canadian diplomats stationed in India, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said: “Yes, we’ve informed the government of Canada that there should be parity in strength in our mutual diplomatic presence. Their number is very much higher than ours in Canada… I assume there will be a reduction from the Canadian side.” Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18 by masked gunmen.

Urged India to cooperate with Canada in its probe into Khalistani separatist’s death: US official

Biden Administration has engaged with the Indian government on a number of occasions urging them to cooperate with Canada

Washington: The Biden Administration has engaged with the Indian government on a number of occasions urging them to cooperate with Canada in its investigations into the death of a Khalistani separatist, a US State Department official has said.

Bilateral ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June.

India has rejected the allegations as “absurd” and “motivated” and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move to Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official over the case.

The issue of the killing of Nijjar in Canada was raised by Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar here last week.

“As he made clear then, I’ll reiterate now, we remain in close coordination with our Canadian colleagues on this question,” State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller told reporters on Monday at his daily news conference in response to a question raised by a Pakistani journalist.

“We have engaged with the Indian government on a number of occasions to urge them to cooperate with Canada’s investigation. The secretary had an opportunity to do that in his meeting with the foreign minister on Friday,” he said.

When asked if India has agreed to cooperate with Canada, Miller said this is for New Delhi to respond to.

“I will let the Indian government speak for themselves and I will speak for the United States government, and we urge that cooperation,” he said.

Jaishankar told journalists here last week that the governments of India and Canada will have to talk to each other and see how they resolve their differences over the issue and underlined that the larger issue of “permissiveness” must be flagged and addressed.

“The issue is as follows, which is that the Canadians have made some allegations. We have pointed out to them that this is not the government of India’s policy, but if they are prepared to share with us specifics and anything relevant, we are also open to looking at it. So in that sense, that’s where the matter stands,” Jaishankar said.

UK activists remember Khashoggi 5 years after Saudi journalist’s murder

British human rights campaigners have held a candlelight vigil to mark five years since the state-sponsored killing of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The vigil took place outside Saudi Arabia’s embassy in London on Monday evening as security guards lingered around the gates of the premises.

Some of the activists chanted slogans such as “down down bin Salman,” referring to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is accused of ordering the assassination of the Middle East Eye (MEE) and Washington Post columnist.

Khashoggi, who had been critical of the Riyadh government, was killed and dismembered by Saudi agents in the kingdom’s Istanbul consulate on October 2, 2018.

The US spy agency CIA said it had collected multiple sources of intelligence indicating that bin Salman, the heir to the Saudi throne, had issued the instructions for the murder.

Kuwaiti activist Salman al-Khaldi told the MEE that participants at the London vigil were harassed by members of the Saudi embassy, noting that Riyadh harasses anyone who speaks out about Khashoggi.

“Today, I have a five-year sentence against me in Kuwait just because I have spoken out about Jamal Khashoggi and I have been banned from entering Saudi Arabia for 25 years,” he said. “If we are silent about Khashoggi, we will be next.”

Huda al-Amri, a UK-based Saudi activist, described Monday’s vigil as an important step in calling for justice.

“If we don’t call for justice now, our time will come too,” she said. ”Bin Salman is a murderer and this is not just about Khashoggi. He was just one of many. There were many before him and there have been many after him. People need to raise their voices for the sake of justice.”

After Khashoggi’s killing, bin Salman was broadly shunned in the West. Recently, however, there has been a shift in the trend as certain world powers are turning a blind eye to Saudi Arabia’s rights record in a bid to attract investment from the oil-rich state.

Daniel Gorman, director of the human rights organization English Pen, was also at the vigil, where he renewed calls for a thorough probe into Khashoggi’s brutal assassination.

“Justice has not been served for Khashoggi, so we continue to call for a full investigation. Given that it has been five years since his brutal murder in the embassy in Istanbul, it is very sad that we have to be here today, but we will continue,” he told the MEE.

“According to independent organizations, the instructions come from the top, so Mohammed bin Salman should be held accountable…we call for all political prisoners to be released.”

Microsoft Was Willing To Drop Bing Name To Secure Apple Search Deal

Microsoft Was Willing To Drop Bing Name To Secure Apple Search Deal

Microsoft had even offered to sell Bing to Apple around 2020, Bloomberg News reported last week.

Microsoft Corp. was willing to hide its search engine’s “Bing” brand on Apple Inc. devices in order to secure an agreement with the iPhone maker and unseat Google, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella testified Monday.

Taking the stand at Google’s antitrust trial, Microsoft’s Nadella described the lengths his company was willing to go to become Apple’s default search engine, a position that Google currently enjoys. That included offering “strategic flexibility” on how to brand the search engine and encouraging Apple to look at its technology independently of the Bing brand.

The testimony was part of a Department of Justice trial against Google, which the government says has used its search dominance to quash competition and hurt consumers. The company’s agreement with Apple is central to that case. Google pays billions of dollars a year to be the default option for Apple devices, and Microsoft has tried – and failed – to offer a more attractive deal.

Getting that default spot from Apple would be “game changing,” Nadella said. “Whomever they choose, they king-make.”

Nadella did make inroads with Apple between 2013 and 2017, when the iPhone maker opted to replace Google as the search engine powering Siri and the Spotlight feature on its devices. Apple, however, never dropped Google as the default in its Safari web browser and reverted back to Google in the other areas after only four years.

The discussion about dropping the Bing brand happened during negotiations in 2018. The arrangement would have meant Safari search results were powered by Bing, but under an alternative brand.

Nadella said he has tried to replace Google as Apple’s default search engine every year since he became CEO in 2014. In earlier testimony Monday, he said Apple used Microsoft to “bid up the price” it gets paid by Google.

“Do you think Google would continue to pay Apple if there was no search competition? Why would they do that?” he said.

Apple services chief Eddy Cue has said he works with Google because the Mountain View, California-based company provides the best search results. The iPhone maker gets roughly $8 billion annually from the Google deal, which is structured as a revenue-share agreement.

Microsoft had even offered to sell Bing to Apple around 2020, Bloomberg News reported last week. Cue declined that overture.
