"Going To Tell A Secret…": PM Claims KCR Wanted To Join NDA, He Rejected

Telangana Chief Minister KCR was slammed by PM Modi at a campaign speech (File).

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao – seen today as one of the BJP’s fiercest critics – wanted to join the party-led National Democratic Alliance “but I refused him entry”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed Tuesday while campaigning for the Assembly election due later this year.

In dramatic fashion the Prime Minister declared Mr Rao, or KCR as he is known, and his Bharat Rashtra Samithi made multiple attempts to join the NDA. These were personally rebuffed, the PM told a cheering crowd. “I said, ‘we won’t cheat people of Telangana. After that his mind was rattled.”

The PM – whose BJP won a solitary seat in the 2018 Telangana election and is without a government in South India – said his refusal angered and “changed” KCR, whom he also accused of corruption and nepotism in an all-out attack in Nizamabad, about 180 km from state capital Hyderabad.

“I am going to tell you a secret… 100 per cent truth,” the Prime Minister began, “When municipal elections happened (in 2020), nobody got a majority. BJP won 48 seats… KCR needed support.”

“KCR showered me with love… gave me a shawl. This was not in KCR’s character. And then he asked me to include him in NDA. ‘You help us in Hyderabad municipality (election)’, he said,” the PM said.

“I refused… told him we won’t cheat of people of Telangana,” the PM continued.

The 2020 Hyderabad civic poll was a significant step forward for the BJP, which had struggled for traction in the state till then. Of the 150 wards, KCR’s party won just 56 – down from 99 in the previous election. The BRS’ loss was the BJP’s gain, which upped its tally from four to 48. Eventually the BRS formed the city’s government after last-minute support from Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, which won 44 seats. The Congress flopped, winning just two wards.

“They (the BRS) got angry (after being refused entry to the NDA). But then he (KCR) came back… told me he now wants to give all responsibility to KTR (KT Rama Rao, his son and a Telangana minister). ‘I will send KTR, you please bless him’, KCR told me…” the Prime Minister claimed.

The PM then claimed he had severely scolded the Telangana leader. “I said, ‘KCR, this is democracy. Who are you to give KTR everything? Are you a king?’ After that he never came before me. He is unable to face me,” the Prime Minister declared, “No corrupt person can sit next to me.”

Relations between the PM and KCR exploded last year with the latter launching a series of personal attacks at the former. The southern party was, before then, seen as a reliable outside partner of the BJP government. But once the Telangana leader began eyeing a national role, the two butted heads.

In July he slammed the PM as “the weakest” India has ever had, and referred to the BJP as “traitors, demons and dictators”.

Today’s attack by the Prime Minister is the sharpest yet on KCR and his party; in April he accused them of obstructing development initiated by the centre and of ‘parivarvaad‘ (family rule) and corruption.

one that will certainly invite furious rejoinders and ramp up political tension in the state before the election.

In his speech the PM also lashed out at the Congress, accusing them of an “understanding” with the BRS.

“In Karnataka (where the Congress routed the BJP in May, winning 135 seats to its rival’s 66) BRS helped by financing them. They (the two opposition parties) have mutual understanding as exit (in Telangana) is sure.”

Mynampally forces Congress to dump Udaipur Declaration

Hyderabad: Mynampally Hanumantha Rao’s claims that the Congress high command has assured him two tickets, including one for his son from Medak, has hit the party’s ‘One Family, One Ticket’ rule for a toss, besides posing serious questions on the recognition being given to the loyalty of other senior leaders in the party.

Mynampally, who joined the Congress in New Delhi last Friday, had claimed that the party high command had assured him two tickets based on ‘survey’ results. However, his claims triggered questions on what was happening to the Congress party’s rule of allotting only one ticket per family. The party had announced this in the form of the Udaipur Declaration.

This apart, Telangana Congress senior leaders are facing severe pressure from their followers and workers over denial of more than one ticket for them by the party. Former Minister K Jana Reddy had sought two tickets, including Nagarjuna Sagar and Miryalguda for his two sons Jaiveer Reddy and Raghuveer Reddy respectively. But the party leadership did not give any assurance to the former Minister.

Disappointed over the party’s response, Jana Reddy has reportedly expressed his anguish with party leaders in New Delhi.

Similarly, Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy had sought a ticket for himself from Huzurnagar and one for his wife N Padmavathi from Kodad constituency. He too has not been given any assurance from the party leadership.

Same is the case with Mulugu MLA Seethakka, who appealed for a ticket for her son Surya from Pinapaka constituency.

Party workers, pointing out how these leaders have worked for the party’s cause for several years, have threatened of revolt if the high command allotted two tickets for “parachute” leaders.

Mynampally is not the only one in question here. Former MP Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy after joining the Congress had assured his followers that he would be allotted minimum three tickets, including Palair, Khammam and Kothagudem. Former MLA Jupally Krishna Rao from Kollapur, who also recently joined the party, is also facing the same situation. He also had appealed for two tickets, including one from Nagarkurnool constituency.

“This is bound to be a major issue and even their power and might in the party will be under the scanner. If they fail to get tickets, then their credibility among their followers, will definitely get hit,” a political analyst said, adding that if the Congress party heeds to the pressure from senior leaders, the party’s Udaipur Declaration of ‘One Family, One Ticket’ would lose significance, thus paving way for other parties to criticize the party for breaking its own rules.

Riyadh: Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal in the Asian Champions League in Al-Nassr’s 3-1 win over Istiklol to shift attention back to soccer after an earlier match between Sepahan of Iran and Saudi Arabia‘s Al-Ittihad was controversially canceled.

The Saudi club did not take to the field at Naghsh-e-Jahan Stadium in Isfahan on Monday because of busts of Gen Qassem Soleimani — who commanded Iran’s elite Quds Force before he was killed in a U.S. drone strike in neighboring Iraq in January 2020 — and other political banners, Saudi Arabia’s Al Ekhbariya TV reported.

Soleimani was seen as playing a key role in arming, training and leading armed groups across the region, including fighters from the Houthi rebel group in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has been at war with the Iran-aligned rebels in Yemen since 2015.

Three busts of Soleimani were placed on the sideline at the Iranian stadium. After around a 30-minute delay, the Saudi league champions, whose stars include N’Golo Kante and Fabinho, left the stadium where an estimated 60,000 fans were waiting.

The Asian Football Confederation said in a statement that the Group C match was canceled “due to unanticipated and unforeseen circumstances,” without elaborating. The match has been initially classified as postponed.

Another Saudi club, Al-Hilal, which is a four-time winner of the Asian continental title, was scheduled to play Nassaji Mazandaran in Tehran on Tuesday.

Al-Nassr took control against Tajikistan’s Istiklol in the second half at Riyadh. Ronaldo, who joined the club in December, equalized with a delicate chip midway through the second half. Senin Sebai had put Istiklol ahead just before the break.

Ronaldo scored for the seventh successive game, and then two goals in quick succession from Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca gave Al-Nassr the win.

Al-Nassr, still searching for a first continental championship, is top of Group E with six points from two games, three above Persepolis. The Iranian club beat Al-Duhail of Qatar 1-0.

Elsewhere, Nasaf Qarshi of Uzbekistan maintained its perfect start in Group B with a 3-1 win over Qatar’s Al-Sadd, while Al-Faisaly lost 1-0 at Sharjah.

Only the 10 group winners and the six best-performing runners-up will progress to the next stage.

Kolkata: In wake of the rising number of dengue cases in West Bengal, a public interest litigation has been filed in the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, seeking the court’s invention in ensuring proper administrative initiatives in arresting further spread of the disease.

The PIL has been filed by Dr Sanjib Kumar Mukhopadhyay, a medical practitioner. The matter will come up for hearing by the division bench of Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya this week only.

In his petition, Mukhopadhyay has claimed since the different municipalities, municipal corporations and rural bodies in the state have failed miserably in arresting the spread of this menace, the high court’s intervention is necessary to fix responsibilities of the authorities concerned in the matter.

The PIL has been filed at a time when the Union Health and Family Welfare Mionistry has accused the West Bengal Health Department of suppressing the actual figures relating to the number of affected people or the deaths. On the other hand, the state government has accused the Union government of denying the necessary financial assistance on this count.

In his petition, Dr Mukhopadhyay has also stated that the common people are suffering in the midst of such a tussle between the Union and the state governments.

He has also accused that there are severe shortages of blood platelets in different state-run hospitals in the state, thus making the situation even more critical. He has also sought the intervention of the Calcutta High Court in ensuring rapid blood tests on this count.

KRMB seeks water indents from Telangana and AP to meet drinking water needs

Hyderabad: As the scope to give water for irrigation has been ruled out, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has asked both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to submit their indents for supply of water from the Krishna basin projects to meet only their irrigation needs.

The Board has convened a meeting of its three member committee on October 5 at Hyderabad to discuss the indents and plan the water releases till May 31, 2024.

Board sources said both the States have agreed that due to due to shortage of water in the common reservoirs, the water available should be used only for meeting the drinking water needs.

But there was no consensus on the indents raised by them during the second meeting of the three member committee held in August last.

As a result the water release orders could not be issued so far. Since the first four months of the water year were already over, the board had called the meeting to discuss the water indents and plan releases accordingly for the remaining eight months of the year.

Based on the indents, water management plans would be formulated till the end of May 2024.

The focus of the meeting would be on the releases mainly from the Srisailam and the Nagarjuna Sagar project. So far as Telangana was concerned, its actual requirement was put at 12.13 tmc from the NSP and 7.12 tmc from Srisailam for the entire year.

The priority of the State is drinking water supply to Hyderabad city and district headquarters centres including Nalgonda. The waters level in the Nagarjuna Sagar project was alarmingly low.

The present storage in Srisailam is 87.66 tm,c as against the gross storage capacity of 215 tmc. The water storage in the Nagarjuna Sagar Project little over 157 tmc as against the gross storage capacity of 312.05 tmc.

New Delhi: Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has posted a selfie on Instagram, showing his face swollen and marked by multiple bruises under the eyes and on the nose. The Meta CEO explained how he was injured, saying it happened when sparring — a common training method in combat sports — got out of hand. “Sparring got a little out of hand. May need to update my avatar,” he said.

For quite some time, Zuckerberg has been involved in combat sports such as MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and Jiu-Jitsu. He has been seen more active after X-owner Elon Musk challenged him to a “cage fight”.

The talk of the fight initially started when Musk in June replied to a tweet about the news that Meta was releasing a Twitter (now X) competitor. “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment.” To this, a user replied: “Better be careful @elonmusk I heard he does the jiu-jitsu now.” “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk replied. Then, Zuckerberg posted a screenshot of the Tesla CEO’s tweet with the caption “send me location”.

In August, Musk said that the cage fight with Zuckerberg would livestream at an epic location in Italy. Musk posted on ‘X’: “I spoke to the PM of Italy and Minister of Culture. They have agreed on an epic location.”

Recently, Zuckerberg was awarded his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by his coach Professor Dave Camarillo after several years of training. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has five types of belts, starting with white, moving up to blue, purple, brown, and finally black.
