Plan B In Place If Arvind Kejriwal Is Arrested? What Delhi Minister Said

New Delhi:

Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has said the denial of bail to Manish Sisodia and the subsequent Enforcement Directorate summons to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning, are just ploys to “punish AAP politically”.

“This is so that they can get rid of AAP politically,” he told NDTV in an exclusive interview today.

Asked if the party has a Plan B in case of Mr Kejriwal’s arrest, he said, “As of now, I don’t know and I don’t think there’s any discussion about it. Kejriwal is our leader and we will work under his direction”.

The Supreme Court order, he admitted, was a jolt for the party, “but in a way, it destroys the allegations of the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation”.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea of Mr Sisodia, Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister, who is the prime accused in the alleged liquor scam.

A money trail of Rs 338 crore has been tentatively established in the case, said the judges, who earlier insisted that a chain of evidence must be established.

In a 41-page order, the court accepted the CBI argument that there is a “carefully hatched conspiracy” to ensure that a select few make windfall gains. The policy “facilitated getting bribes” from wholesale distributors who are “assured of exorbitant profits”.

Hours later, Mr Kejriwal was summoned for questioning by the Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the alleged money laundering angle in the liquor scam. He has been asked to present himself at the Delhi office of the Central agency on November 2.

The questioning of Mr Kejriwal was very much expected, Mr Bhardwaj said. “Two days back Manoj Tiwari said in an interview to ANI that next in line is Arvind Kejriwal and he will be arrested. I wonder how Manoj Tiwari knew that Kejriwal will be summoned? It makes me believe it is political script,” he added.

Hyderabad: The disparaging remarks made by the state PCC President A Revanth Reddy against the Engineer-in-Chief (General) C Muralidhar of the Irrigation Department in connection with sinking of the Medigadda barrage piers came in for condemnation by numerous associations of the state engineers on Tuesday.

Demanding an unconditional apology from Reddy, they wanted him to withdraw his remarks forthwith. Taking strong exception to the way a engineers and officials of the stature of Muralidhar were being targeted and insulted with offensive utterances, they recalled that the Congress leader had hurled abuses against the State’s lift irrigation expert of international repute Penta Reddy also.

The Hyderabad Engineers Association, Telangana Irrigation Graduate Engineers Association, Association of the Telangana Assistant Executive Engineers and the Telangana Retired Engineers Association were among the oganisations that condemned the remarks of Revanth Reddy. They said Muralidhar was targeted for attributing the sinking of Medigadda barrage piers to dislocation of sand beneath the pillars.

They pointed out that the sagging of piers was being attributed by many including Revanth Reddy to factors that have nothing to do with it. In a way they were showing up their ignorance with regard to such issues. They are misleading people on the issue with such accusations. They clarified that the sinking of Medigadda piers in block seven of the barrage has no impact on other stretches of the project.

The project engineers had already made it clear that the incident would not have any bearing on supply of water to Rabi crops in the ayacut area. Leaders of the associations B Gopala Krioshna Rao, N Sreedhar, Bandi Srinivas and A S N Reddy advised the Congress leaders to restrain from personal attacks.

Constant Israeli bombardment turning Gaza into 'graveyard of children': UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has raised the alarm over the rising number of child deaths in the Gaza Strip, amid the ongoing incessant bombardment of the besieged Palestinian enclave.

UNICEF spokesman James Elder told a UN press briefing in the Swiss city of Geneva on Thursday that children in Gaza were dying not only due to airstrikes but also because of a lack of needed medical care.

“Our gravest fears about the reported numbers of children killed, going from dozens into hundreds into thousands have been realized in just a fortnight.”

The spokesman lamented that the death toll among minors had exceeded 3,450.

“Staggeringly, this number rises significantly every single day,” Elder warned, saying that Gaza “has become a graveyard of children. It is a living hell for everyone else.”

“And yet the threats to children go beyond bombs,” he said, underling that water and trauma were among other threats faced in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

He warned that more than 1 million children in Gaza faced a critical water crisis as Gaza’s daily water output was at 5 percent of its production capacity.

“So, child deaths to dehydration, particularly infant deaths to dehydration, are a growing threat,” he said.

On trauma, the spokesperson said: When finally the fighting stops the cost to children and their communities is going to be borne out for generations to come

Elder stressed that, before the current conflict began, more than 800,000 children in Gaza were identified as in need of mental health and psychological support.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Elder reiterated UNICEF’s call for an immediate cease-fire and humanitarian access to supplies for the besieged enclave.

WHO warns of ‘imminent public health catastrophe’

Meanwhile, Elder’s WHO counterpart, Christian Lindmeier, warns of an “imminent public health catastrophe” in the area due to “mass displacement, overcrowding (and) damage to water and sanitation infrastructure”.

An Israeli blockade of the strip has also cut Gaza off from fuel, electricity, and water supplies, and reduced aid deliveries to a small trickle unable to satisfy the needs of the over 2 million Palestinians there.

It’s now Day 25 of Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, with the regime pounding the territory from the air, land and sea.

The relentless attacks have so far claimed the lives of over 8,500 people, including nearly 3,500 children. Another 21,000 Palestinians have also been injured.

Officials in Gaza say more than 1,000 people are still missing under the rubble of buildings destroyed in the attacks.

They say Israel has dropped more than 18,000 tons of explosives on Gaza since October 7.

Palestinians also accuse the regime of using internationally banned white phosphorus bombs in its attacks on the besieged territory.

Earlier, the resistance movement Islamic Jihad dismissed Israel’s claims about making major advances in its ground invasion of Gaza.

The movement said Israel is deliberately misleading information about its attempts to penetrate into the besieged Palestinian territory.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been advised a few weeks rest after a scan found a niggle in her left knee. Last week, the 28-year-old from Hyderabad was forced to concede her second round match against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong due to a knee injury at the French Open Super 750 event in Rennes. “After returning from France and undergoing a knee scan, we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call,” Sindhu said in a social media post on Tuesday. “Doctors have been advised a few weeks rest before I begin training again. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics. I shall be back on the court very soon.” Sindhu, who has been struggling with form this season, had returned to the top 10 last Tuesday after a gap of six months by climbing two spots following back-to-back semifinal finishes at Arctic Open and Denmark Open.

The Indian had slipped to world no. 17 in August.

The next tournaments scheduled this month in the BWF World Tour, include the Korea Masters Super 300 (Nov 7-12), Kumamoto Masters Japan Super 500 (Nov 14-19), China Masters Super 750 (Nov 21 to 26) and Syed Modi India International Super 300 (Nov 28 to Dec 3).

Hyderabad: An intermediate student died by suicide at his house in Meerpet on Monday night.

According to the police, M Vaibhav (16), a resident of Meerpet was pursuing his intermediate first year course from a corporate college at Chaitanyapuri. For last few weeks, the boy slipped into depression allegedly due to the pressure at the college to study and score good marks.

On Tuesday morning, Vaibhav hanged himself to the ceiling fan in the house. On noticing him hanging, the family members shifted him to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

In note purportedly written by Vaibhav and left at the house, he held the principal and vice principal of the college responsible for his death, said Meerpet Inspector, K Kiran Kumar.

A case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of IPC is registered against the college management and further investigation is on, he added.

Israeli airstrike on Jabaliya camp in Gaza kills 200 Palestinians, mostly women and children

At least 200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed after Israeli airstrikes hit the Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, amid the regime’s ongoing bombing campaign against the besieged territory.

Gaza’s health ministry announced the death toll on Tuesday, adding that at least 150 others have been wounded in the strikes.

However, the Palestinian interior ministry said the strikes had left 400 dead or wounded in total.

Iyad al-Bazum, interior ministry spokesperson, also noted that US-made bombs have targeted residential homes causing a “massacre,” adding that an entire residential complex had been destroyed in the attack.

“These buildings house hundreds of citizens. The occupation’s air force destroyed this district with six US-made bombs. It is the latest massacre caused by Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip,” he said, calling on the international community “to act immediately to stop Israel before it is too late.”

Video footage from the camp showed buildings completely leveled to the ground, and panicked Palestinian residents could be seen carrying wounded children away from the scene or searching for survivors.

On October 7, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched its biggest operation against Israel in years in a surprise offensive, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.

Since then, Israel has pressed ahead with a relentless bombardment of Gaza. The death toll in Gaza since the start of Israeli aggression has reached nearly 8,800 with more than 23,000 wounded.

Tel Aviv has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the besieged territory into a humanitarian crisis.

On Friday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution, calling for the implementation of an immediate “humanitarian truce” in Gaza.

The vote at the General Assembly came after the United Nations Security Council failed four times to take action due to the US recurrently casting its veto against relevant resolutions.

Gaza Has Become A "Graveyard" For Thousands Of Children: UN

Gaza Has Become A 'Graveyard' For Thousands Of Children: UN

Geneva:

The Gaza Strip has become a graveyard for thousands of children, the United Nations said Tuesday, as it feared the prospect of more dying of dehydration.

Israel has heavily bombarded Gaza since Hamas gunmen stormed across the border on October 7, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping at least 240 others, according to Israeli officials.

The health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip said the strikes have killed more than 8,500 people, mainly civilians.

The UN children’s agency UNICEF said there was a risk that the number of child deaths directly from bombardment could become eclipsed.

“Our gravest fears about the reported numbers of children killed becoming dozens, then hundreds, and ultimately thousands were realised in just a fortnight,” UNICEF spokesman James Elder said in a statement.

“The numbers are appalling; reportedly more than 3,450 children killed; staggeringly this rises significantly every day.”

“Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children. It’s a living hell for everyone else.”

He said the more than one million children living in the Gaza Strip were also suffering from a lack of clean water.

“Gaza’s water production capacity is a mere five percent of its usual daily output. Child deaths — particularly infants — to dehydration are a growing threat,” he said.

UNICEF is calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, with all access crossings into Gaza opened for the safe, sustained and unimpeded access of humanitarian aid, including water, food, medical supplies, and fuel.

“And if there is no ceasefire, no water, no medicine, and no release of abducted children? Then we hurtle towards even greater horrors afflicting innocent children,” said Elder.

“There are certainly children who are dying who have been impacted by the bombardment but should have had their lives saved,” Elder told reporters in Geneva, via video-link.

He said that without greater humanitarian access into the Gaza Strip, “then the deaths from the attacks, they could absolutely be the tip of the iceberg”.

Elder said that according to figures from health faculties in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, some 940 children were missing.

UN humanitarian agency spokesman Jens Laerke added: “It’s almost unbearable to think about children buried under rubble, but (with) very little opportunity or possibility for getting them out.”

The World Health Organization said people in Gaza were dying not just from direct bombardment.

“We have 130 premature infants that are dependent on incubators, of which 61 percent approximately are in the north,” said WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier.

“It’s an imminent public health catastrophe that looms with the mass displacement, the overcrowding, and the damage to water and sanitation infrastructure.”

Rahul Gandhi contradicts Karnataka leaders on power supply

Rahul Gandhi’s claims just proved how deep the internal dissonance was, even while uttering lies.

Rahul Gandhi contradicts Karnataka leaders on power supply

Hyderabad: It is known that the Indian National Congress is synonymous with internal discord, but Rahul Gandhi’s claims on Tuesday just proved how deep the internal dissonance was, even while uttering lies.

Gandhi, while addressing a public meeting at Kollapur, claimed that the Congress was known for keeping its promises, and that his party’s government in Karnataka had kept all its promises right in the first cabinet meeting. However, what he forgot to mention was the promise of adequate power supply to farmers in the Congress manifesto.

Apart from several farmers from Karnataka who have been going around in Telangana warning farmers here that the Congress had betrayed them by not ensuring even two hours of quality power supply, Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah and his Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar too had openly said that their government was supplying only five hours of power to farmers in Karnataka.

How the Congress MP contradicted the statements of his own partymen has baffled people here, who also asked why farmers were protesting across Karnataka if the Congress government had indeed kept its promises to all sections of the people. Apart from a severe shortage of power, which Karnataka Ministers themselves have admitted, farmers were also facing an acute shortage of water for irrigation, a fact that Gandhi chose to keep quiet about.

The issue of power supply to farmers, in fact, is turning out to be a major embarrassment to the Congress, with its TPCC president A Revanth Reddy’s statement that three hours of power was more than enough for farmers in Telangana. The statements of other Congress leaders including N Uttam Kumar Reddy calling the Rythu Bandhu financial assistance a ‘waste expenditure’ too is being called out by many, pointing out the anti-farmer stance of the Congress.

Gandhi’s use of the words ‘dorala Telangana’ too backfired, with many citing TPCC president A Revanth Reddy’s language, comparing Telangana’s farmers to beggars who were being given ‘alms’ of Rs.10,000 as Rythu Bandhu assistance. It was in fact Revanth who was speaking the language of feudal lords, many pointed out.

Interestingly, despite all fingers pointing at the Congress in connection with Monday’s attack on BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Rahul Gandhi chose to skirt the issue and keep mum on the entire incident, which in fact has become a major turning point in the campaign narrative in Telangana, putting his party on the defensive.
