Wolfsburg: Germany was jeered by its home crowd Saturday after slumping to a 4-1 loss to Japan to pile yet more pressure on coach Hansi Flick, nine months out from hosting the European Championship.

The German defence allowed Japan a string of chances on the counter and the result highlights the lack of progress since a 2-1 loss to Japan played a key role in Germany going out of last year’s World Cup in the group stage. Flick’s team has not won any of its last five games and conceded 13 goals in that time.

“At some point, expectations and reality are so far apart that you have to accept that currently you aren’t good enough,” Germany captain Ilkay Gündogan told broadcaster RTL. “Perhaps we also think that we are better than we really are.” Flick said he believes he is still the right coach for Germany and he was supported by Gündogan, who said he still trusts him. Another challenge comes Tuesday with a friendly against World Cup runner-up France.

Japan targeted Germany left-back Nico Schlotterbeck from the off. A low cross in the 12th minute allowed Junya Ito to score with a shot that appeared to take a deflection off Antonio Rüdiger.

Germany responded when Florian Wirtz found Leroy Sane in space to score, but conceded again almost immediately when Ayase Ueda finished off another move involving a cross from the right.

Flick tried to shake things up in the second half, introducing Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross on debut and giving Thomas Müller a game for the first time since the World Cup. Neither change had much effect and instead it was Japan was took total control.

Takuma Asano surged in behind the defence to score the third goal in the 90th and Ao Tanaka added another in stoppage time when he was left unmarked for a header.

The pressure has mounted on Flick not just because of Germany’s poor form — three wins from 11 games in the preceding 12 months — but also the release this week of a documentary series following last year’s poor World Cup campaign. The Amazon series showed Flick struggling to connect with his squad and complaining about a lack of support back home.

“I know that soccer is very dynamic and I can’t foresee what might happen,” Flick told RTL. “But from my side, and I think that of the coaching team too, we are trying everything to prepare this team well.”

RBI considering introduction of CBDC in call money market soon

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India is planning to extend wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) for transactions for interbank borrowing or call money market, sources said on Tuesday.

The pilot in the wholesale segment, known as the Digital Rupee -Wholesale (e?-W), was launched on November 1, 2022, with the use case being limited to the settlement of secondary market transactions in government securities.

“RBI is now planning to go into the interbank borrowing market. The purpose of wholesale CBDC has been to try out different technologies…experimenting on technology is relatively easier for the wholesale pilot because participants are related,” according to sources.

The introduction of CBDC was announced in the Union Budget 2022-23 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and necessary amendments to the relevant section of the RBI Act, 1934, were made with the passage of the Finance Bill 2022.

The RBI picked up nine banks — State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, YES Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC — for its pilot project for wholesale CBDC.

Besides, the central bank has already rolled out a pilot in the retail version of the CBDC (e?-R) on December 1, 2022. The e?-R is in the form of a digital token that represents legal tender.

It is being issued in the same denominations as the paper currency and coins. It is being distributed through financial intermediaries like banks. Users can transact with e?- R through a digital wallet offered by the participating banks.

About RuPay, sources said no instructions have been given to promote this.

However, they said, this has to be popularised by making it attractive.

Asked when the CBDC pilot ends, sources said there is no deadline as of now and 10.83 crore transactions amounting to Rs 24,000 crore were witnessed in August.

Meanwhile, the RBI will showcase various digital initiatives in the financial sector at the exhibition pavilion during the G20 Summit later this week.

These include Public Tech Platform (PTP) for Frictionless Credit, CBDC, UPI One World, RuPay On-The-Go and Bharat Bill Payment System.

There is a lot of interest being shown by G-20 member nations, especially on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay, sources said.

At Public Tech Platform, visitors can experience an interactive demonstration of the entire process — from onboarding to sanction and disbursement of the KCC and dairy loans in an entirely digital manner in a few minutes, revolutionising rural credit.

Sources said going forward this platform can be used for the distribution of small ticket loans like MSME, personal loans etc.

Besides, the central bank will showcase an informational video on the RBI’s digital rupee and its journey, and there will be live digital rupee transactions demonstrated by select banks, which are participating in the pilot.

UPI One World would enable visitors to onboard UPI without having a bank account in India.

RuPay On-The-Go would allow customers to carry out contactless payment transactions through accessories they wear (watch, ring) or use (key chain) every day and highlight the adaptability of the domestic card scheme-associated products at par with such global products.

BBPS (Bharat Bill Payment System) cross-border bill payment will highlight the adaptability of the BBPS platform to integrate with fintechs and conventional financial players to facilitate domestic as well as cross-border payment transactions.

Telangana: Man steals RTC bus, drives with passengers in Siddipet

Siddipet: A man allegedly stole a TSRTC bus from the Siddipet bus station on Sunday night and drove it into a parking bay in the station, where he told passengers that the bus would be leaving for Hyderabad on Monday morning.

A good number of Hyderabad-bound passengers boarded the bus, after which he started off. When the passengers questioned the absence of a conductor on the bus, he is learned to have told them that the conductor would board the bus mid-way. With the ‘driver’ apparently driving in a haphazard way, passengers started questioning him whether he was really an RTC driver.

Meanwhile, the bus veered off the road at Jillella Crossroad in Sircilla district and soon enough, ran out of fuel, following which he stopped the bus on the roadside. Before the passengers could understand what was happening, he is said to have fled the spot.

TSRTC officials in Siddipet have lodged a complaint with the Siddipet Police. With a couple of passengers shooting a video and pictures of the ‘driver’ on their mobile phones, the police reportedly identified the imposter and have taken him into custody. The police however, are yet to divulge further details.

But, on pure quality of defense, Rohit was better today: Manjrekar backs India skipper’s big-hitting capabilities

But, on pure quality of defense, Rohit was better today: Manjrekar backs India skipper’s big-hitting capabilities

New Delhi: Former India cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar has backed Rohit Sharma stating that the current Indian skipper has evolved more technically as a batter in the last four years.

Manjrekar’s comment came after Rohit Sharma’s brilliant 56 runs off 49 deliveries against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup, here on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma specifically mentioned that he wanted to return to the mindset that helped him succeed in 2019 before the Asia Cup even began.

But since the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup, the captain has only scored three hundred in ODIs, and eight times he has failed to turn a fifty into a three-figure total.

Talking to Star Sports, Manjrekar said, “He got five centuries in the last World Cup, right? My assessment of Rohit Sharma is that his defense has actually gotten much better. He is a much better Test player now than he was in 2019. So, I have no issues.”

Rohit Sharma hit four sixes and six boundaries as he looked solid before throwing his wicket away with a loose shot against leg-spinner Shadab Khan in the 17th over, ending a 121-run opening stand with Shubman Gill.

“I was absolutely not surprised with the defense he showed today against Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi. It’s about converting those starts into big hundreds because that involves running a lot of 1s and 2s later on in the innings,” said Manjrekar.

“Today, he got out after fifty. Even earlier in the season, there were occasions when he had got past his fifty and looked good.

“Only time will tell whether he would be able to replicate that. But, on the pure quality of defense, Rohit is better today. That natural ability to hit the big shots is still there. The question is whether he can bring that all together to hit 5 hundred, 4 hundred, or 3. That time will tell,” he concluded.

Almost 7 crore income tax returns filed till Sep 5, says govt-Telangana Today

Almost 7 crore income tax returns filed till Sep 5, says govt

New Delhi: As many as 6.98 crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed till September 5, out of which 6.84 ITRs have been verified for the assessment year 2023-24, the government said on Tuesday.

More than six crore ITRs of assessment year (AY) 2023-24 have been processed out of the verified ITRs as on September 5, the Income Tax Department said, informing that this resulted in the processing of over 88 per cent of the verified ITRs.

More than 2.45 crore refunds for assessment year 2023-24 have already been issued, it said. The department’s efforts to provide seamless and expeditious taxpayer services are being continuously strengthened. In line with the same, average processing time of ITRs (after verification) has been reduced to 10 days for returns filed for AY 2023-24 compared to 82 days for AY 2019-20 and 16 days for AY 2022-23, official sources said.

There are about 14 lakh ITRs for AY 2023-24, which have been filed but are yet to be verified by the taxpayers as on September 4. Failure to verify the returns causes delays in processing as the Return can only be taken up for processing once the verification has been completed by the taxpayer. Taxpayers are urged to complete the verification process immediately.

There are about 12 lakh verified ITRs in which further information has been sought by the income tax department, for which requisite communication has been sent to the taxpayers through their registered e-filing accounts.

The department further said that there are several cases in which the ITRs have been processed and refunds have also been determined but it is unable to issue them as taxpayers have not yet validated their bank account in which the refund is to be credited. Taxpayers are requested to validate their bank accounts through the e-filing portal, the I-T department said.

IND vs PAK: Kohli Surpasses Tendulkar To Set Massive World Record

Virat Kohli celebrates after reaching the century mark against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023© AFP

Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to achieve a sensational record in ODI cricket during the Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan on Monday. The 34-year-old became the fastest to reach 13,000 runs in ODI cricket as he reached the milestone in his 267th innings. The world record previously belonged to legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the feat in 321 innings but Kohli was able to shatter the existing record with a brilliant knock against Pakistan. Australia great Ricky Ponting is third in the list as he took 341 innings to score 13,000 ODI runs. (India vs Pakistan: Asia Cup Live updates)

Virat Kohli ultimately stayed unbeaten on 122 (94b) while KL Rahul  ended on unbeaten 111* (106b) as India scored a massive 356/2 in 50 overs against Pakistan in a crucial Super 4 match. India ultimately won the match by a record 228-run margin – their biggest win over Pakistan in terms of runs.

This was Virat Kohli’s fourth successive century at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. His scores from the last three matches at the venue read – 128*(119b), 131(96b) and 110*(116b).

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul also set a new Asia Cup (ODI) record as they stitched a 233-run stand. They broke the record of Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez and N Jamshed, who scored a 224-run stand against India in 2012. Virat Kohli has now equalled Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four centuries in Asia Cup. Only Sanath Jayasuriya (6) has more tons in the continental event.

The duo’s performance was praised by Shubman Gill.

“Very special for us. He (Rahul) was playing his first match after coming back from injury and to be able to score a century in these conditions was pretty magnificent,” he said.

“Obviously Virat Bhai also completed his century and got to 13000 runs which shows his great inspiration to all of us. The ball was doing a little bit in the initial period and they also bowled well with the new ball, but it was important for us to take them on and put the bad balls away to put the pressure back on them.

“I think he (Shaheen) was trying to attack the wickets and I wanted to show intent, worked for me yesterday. There’s a bit of seam movement and once the ball gets older we have to mix it up with slower ones, I found it difficult when they were mixing up their length and pace.”

BRS will play a key role in national politics: MP Vaddiraju

MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra launched BRS election campaign at Yellandu in Kothagudem district on Monday.

Kothagudem: Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra stated that the BRS was going to play a key role in national politics and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has all the necessary qualifications to become Prime Minister.

He along with Mahabubabad MP M Kavitha, Yellandu MLA B Haripriya and District Library chairman Dindigala Rajender launched the BRS election campaign at Yellandu in the district on Monday and addressed the party activists.

Chandrashekhar Rao has vast experience of governance, deep understanding of all aspects and eloquence. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister the BRS would record a massive hat-trick victory in upcoming elections, Ravichandra said.

He hailed Chandrashekhar Rao as a great leader who achieved separate Telangana state which everyone thought was impossible and made it number one in the country in terms of development and welfare. Atma Gourava Bhavans for SCs/STs/BCs and other castes were being built in expensive areas like Jubilee Hills, he said.

Former MLA K Kanakaiah was made ZP chairman after he lost the Assembly election. But he sold out himself to moneybags and joined those who betrayed the party. Leaders who have earned money by joining BRS were now speaking against the Chief Minister, the MP alleged.

Ravichandra, who was the in-charge of Yellandu constituency, told the public that they should see the BRS symbol car when they cast their vote. One should understand that their vote was for Chandrashekhar Rao and look at the Chief Minister not the candidate.

He expressed confidence that Haripriya was going to win in upcoming elections. The development programmes would continue till the election notification. Small issues between the leaders would be sorted out and all would work together for the party’s victory, he said.
