New Delhi:

The Indian Railway is introducing the ’14 minutes of miracle’ concept for speedy cleaning of trains from October 1, starting with 29 Vande Bharat trains at their respective destination stations across the country.

It will be formally launched by the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Delhi Cantt. Railway Station.

Mr Vaishnaw told reporters that the Vande Bharat trains will be cleaned within 14 minutes under the initiative to improve their punctuality and turnaround time.

“It is a unique concept and happening for the first time in the Indian railways,” the minister said.

The initiative is based on the concept of ‘7 minutes of miracle’ at various stations such as Osaka, Tokyo in Japan where bullet trains are cleaned and made ready for another journey within seven minutes.

The service has been made possible by enhancing the cleaning persons’ efficiency, skills and working attitude without increasing the number of front-line workforce already engaged in this activity, the minister said.

Besides Delhi Cantt, some of the other railway stations where it will be started are Varanasi, Gandhinagar, Mysore and Nagpur, depending on the respective arrival timings of the Vande Bharat trains.

Before launching this concept, the Railways carried out a couple of dry-runs where the attendants cleaned the train first in around 28 minutes and then improved it to 18 minutes. “Now it will take only 14 minutes without involving any new technology,” the minister said.

“Starting from Vande Bharat, we will apply the same concept in other trains slowly and gradually which will have a huge impact on improving their punctuality,” the minister said.

The Indian Railway launched a fortnight-long cleanliness drive – Swachhata-Hi-Seva campaign – in September in which the chairman and CEO of the Railway Board administered the Swachhata pledge to railway officials via video conferencing from the Rail Bhawan in New Delhi.

According to the railways, during the first 15 days of the SHS campaign, more than 2.19 lakh people participated in around 2050 activities involving 685,883 man-hours.

Hangzhou: In what was billed as a close contest turned into a lopsided affair, as India fired a whopping 10 goals past a hapless Pakistani defence to register its biggest-ever win over their traditional rivals in a Pool A match of the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.

The gobsmackingly surreal match saw India running riot over their arch-rivals to register a thumping 10-2 victory.

Leading from the front, India skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored four goals and Varun Kumar fired a brace to vitually seal the contest.

Four quick goals from the Indians broke the back of the Pakistani defence and literally opened the flood gates.

The biggest-ever win over their arch-rivals saw India storm into the semi-finals. Mandeep Singh scored India’s first goal in the 8th minute of the 1st quarter.

Pakistan earned its first penalty corner in the 10th minute.

Skipper Harmanpreet scored India’s second goal with a penalty stroke in the 11th minute. While Pakistan went into an all-out attack in opening quarter, India came away as the better of the two sides at the end of it with a 2-0 lead.

India introduced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh for the 2nd quarter.

Harmanpreet logged a brace in the 3rd quarter as India extended their lead to 3-0. Moments before the half-time whistle, India earned 4th goal following a referral.

India scored their 5th, with Harmanpreet bringing up a hat-trick in the 2nd half. The Indian captain scored his fourth with a monster drag flick, extending India’s lead to 6-0 in the 34th minute. With a spring in their steps, India stepped up a gear and made further forays into the Pakistani deep defence. Abdul Rehman, however, earned Pakistan a penalty corner against the run of play as he dodged past three Indian defenders, converting defence into attack with subtle stick work.

Pakistan scored their first as Sufiyan Khan found the target in the 38th minute of the one-sided encounter.

However, in a spectacular counter-attacking effort thereafter, Varun Kumar sprinted past Pakistani defenders to score a goal through a deflection in the 41st minute. Shamsher’s goal took India’s tally to 8 in the 46th minute.

In the 49th minute, Lalit Upadhyay, with an assist from Jarmanpreet Singh, scored India’s ninth goal. Varun fired India’s tenth in the 53rd minute of the game.

India will face off against Bangladesh in the last-four clash on Monday.

The decision was taken following a request by Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and ZP chairman L Kamal Raju, he said.

Rama Rao said that before leaving for Khammam, he along with minister P Ajay Kumar, the MLAs and MPs had a meeting with the Chief Minister, during which the Chief Minister also issued directions to district officials to appoint special officers for every mandal in Sathupalli constituency and in Bonakal and to launch the programme with immediate effect. Premier League: Fans jeer as Manchester United loses 1-0 to Crystal Palace

Premier League: Fans jeer as Manchester United loses 1-0 to Crystal Palace

Manchester United’s Swedish defender #02 Victor Lindelof (L) fights for the ball with Crystal Palaces English midfielder #10 Eberechi Eze (R) during the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Manchester: After back-to-back wins, it’s back to the drawing board for Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag’s struggling team suffered a fifth defeat in nine games as Joachim Andersen fired Crystal Palace to a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Boos rang around the stadium after the final whistle as a solemn-faced Ten Hag made his way to the locker room in the Manchester rain.

So much for the optimistic words from the Dutch coach in his pre-game program notes when he spoke of his team taking “another step forward” following the mid-week win against Palace in the English League Cup.

That victory came after United had also beaten Burnley in the league. But, Anderson’s first-half strike, when lashing Eberechi Eze’s free kick past Andre Onana, put a halt to United’s recent revival and raised fresh questions about its prospects this season.

Ten Hag is struggling to find consistency after leading the club back into the UEFA Champions League last season and delivering the first piece of silverware in six years when winning the League Cup.

This latest loss typified United’s fragility after going behind for the fourth time in six league games this term. It is also successive defeats at home in the league, following the 3-1 loss to Brighton earlier this month.

There had been signs of United’s troubles easing after the recent wins against Burnley and Palace.

Antony is back in contention after taking a leave of absence to address allegations of domestic abuse, while summer signing Mason Mount is fit again.

Mount was one of four starters for United on Saturday who had joined during the off-season, along with Onana, Sofyan Amrabat and Rasmus Hojlund.

Confidence was high after United had comfortably beaten Palace on Tuesday when the Londoners’ manager Roy Hodgson had benched a number of regular starters.

Marc Guehi, Eze and Anderson were among the players back in the team that included six changes. And, it was Andersen who fired Palace in front in the 25th.

Before that United had come close to taking the lead in the 12th when Hojlund flicked a shot past onrushing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. But, as he waited to see the ball cross the line, Tyrick Mitchell raced back to clear and deny the Danish striker his first goal at Old Trafford.

Trailing at half-time, United pressed for an equalizer. Bruno Fernandes forced a flying save from Johnstone with a long-range effort and Hojlund’s header had the ‘keeper in action again as he parried the effort away.

Mount should have found the back of the net with a close-range header that went over the bar and Guehi was close to scoring an own-goal when deflecting substitute Alejandro Garnacho’s cross.

Garnacho also saw a late effort deflected wide before the whistle blew on another frustrating day for Ten Hag.

"People Were Telling Me I Was…": Kohli On Frustrating Time Ahead Of WC

Virat Kohli will be featuring in his fourth ODI World Cup as Team India look to end a 10-year drought for an ICC trophy. Kohli, who made his World Cup debut in 2011, was part of the MS Dhoni-led side that defeated Sri Lanka to lift the trophy in Mumbai. After overcoming a rough patch, Kohli has been in tremendous form this year in ODIs, scoring five centuries, while also becoming the fastest batter to register 13,000 runs in the format. With 47 ODI centuries in total, Kohli is on the cusp of surpassing his idol Sachin Tendulkar‘s all-time tally of 49 as he gets set to lead India’s charge at the World Cup.

Reflecting on his rough patch, Kohli said the past few years have been a massive learning curve for him.

“The last two and a half years have taught me a lot. Those angry celebrations are a thing of the past. I have had many suggestions, lots of advice has come my way; people were telling me I was doing this wrong, that wrong,” Kohli told ICC.

“I picked out all the videos from the best time I had, same initial movement, same approach towards the ball and it was just what was happening inside my head, I wasn’t able to explain it to anyone,” he added.

With veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin added to India’s squad as replacement of Axar Patel, Kohli is the second player from the class of 12 years ago to be part of India’s squad this time around.

India World Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav.

Over 300 academics urge Biden administration to uphold Palestinian rights

US President Joe Biden (Photo by Reuters)

More than 300 Palestinian, Arab, and international academics have signed an open letter addressed to the administration of US President Joe Biden, calling on Washington to uphold the fundamental rights of Palestinians.

They urged the Biden administration to respect the rights as outlined in the recent speech by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The rights include recognition of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, condemnation of denial of Nakba Day or “Day of Catastrophe,” when Israel was created on May 15, 1948 at the expense of the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland, respect for Palestinians’ right to self-determination, as well as cessation of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and crimes of apartheid.

The academics also called on the Biden administration to adopt policies that align with these principles across all spheres and fields.

The White House has repeatedly expressed disapproval of many statements and policies emanating from members of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hardline administration, as well as with the so-called judicial overhaul plan.

Proponents of the plan say it helps redistribute the balance of power between the politicians and the judiciary. Its opponents, however, accuse Netanyahu of trying his hand at a power grab. They say the premier, who is on trial on several counts of corruption charges, is also attempting to use the scheme to quash possible judgments against him.

Israeli academics, artists, businessmen and even military reservists have come out against the controversial overhaul.

Biden expressed concerns when Israel’s parliament slammed through the first piece of legislation in July, calling the outcome “unfortunate.”

The Biden administration has also voiced increased frustration with the Israeli regime’s settlement growth in the occupied West Bank, which the US and most of the international community consider a main obstacle to peace with the Palestinians.
