Straighter run-up, aggressive rhythm key to my ODI success: Kuldeep Yadav

Colombo: Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav believes tweaks in his technique, including a straighter run-up and an aggressive rhythm, has helped him to improve his bowling and achieve success in ODI cricket.

The 28-year-old has taken 27 wickets from 14 matches this year, the highest by an Indian bowler in ODIs.

“After the (knee) surgery (last year), my run-up has become much straighter, and rhythm has become aggressive. My hand used to fall over but that has been controlled and now it (hand) is facing the batsman,” said Kuldeep in the post-match press conference.

Kuldeep said he had worked on spin and drift post his surgery to improve his efficiency.

“I exerted care not to lose my spin and drift without losing my pace. If a leg-spinner lands the ball on a good length, he can pick up wickets more regularly and loose balls can be reduced. You can be consistent,” he added.

Kuldeep said he worked with NCA physio Ashish Koushik post his surgery to reduce the burden on his knee while landing in the crease.

“I did not want to lose my zip, nip or drift. After surgery I went for a three-month recuperation at NCA and physio Ashish Koushik said I had to reduce the load on my knee. So, I worked to make my rhythm faster,” he said.

However, Kuldeep said it took him some time to make the remodelled action work at the top level cricket.

“I tried the new action in a practice game in Kanpur. The batsmen were struggling to face me. But even in the IPL and during the tour of the West Indies I was struggling with it (action).

“It took some 6-7 matches for me to make work at this level,” said Kuldeep. ‘Performing against a top opposition like Pakistan motivates me’

His (5/25) five-wicket haul helped India outclass Pakistan by a massive 228-run margin and Kuldeep said he will always remember this effort as it came against a top opposition.

“I will always remember that I picked up five wickets against Pakistan when I retire. It is a big thing for me because Pakistan players can play spin well. If you perform against a side that plays spin well in the subcontinent, it motivates you,” said he said,

Imran Khan approached special court against jail superintendent for not complying with its order

Islamabad:

The Official Secrets Act Special Court has permitted the former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to talk to his sons over the phone till September 15, reported The News International.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief has been demanding to talk to his lawyers as well as his sons for a long time now.

One of Imran Khan’s lawyers Sheeraz Ahmed Ranjha said that the court had ordered the jail officials to allow telephonic conversation between the PTI chief and his sons but the jail officials did not grant permission, according to ARY News.

Moreover, the lawyers of Imran Khan were also not allowed by the police to meet him at the Attock Jail, ARY News reported.

Lawyers Sheeraz Ahmed Ranjha and Gohar Ali were scheduled to meet Khan earlier this month.

According to The News International, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain issued a notice to Attock Jail Superintendent Arif Shehzad seeking a report on the implementation of the court order.

The Toshakhana issue became a major sticking point in Pakistan’s politics after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Imran Khan for making “false statements and incorrect declaration,” ARY News reported.

The Toshakhana case alleged that Imran Khan did not share details regarding the gifts he retained from Toshakhana during his tenure as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, according to an ARY News report.

Later, the Islamabad Court suspended the conviction of Imran Khan and directed to release him on bail from Attock Jail. However, the special court ordered to keep Imran Khan in judicial remand in cypher case.

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, which has been making significant strides in Maharashtra with its ‘Ab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar’ slogan gaining popularity, is planning massive public meetings, membership drives and other activities after the upcoming special session of the Parliament.

Party sources informed that K Chandrashekhar Rao was considering holding public meetings in each district headquarter instead of covering every Assembly constituency. He is likely to address a series of 30 public meetings covering 36 districts of Maharashtra before the Lok Sabha poll schedule is announced.

Already boasting a membership of 20 lakh office bearers, the party is set to become the largest in terms of office bearers in the State, with an additional 30 lakh members expected to join by the end of this month.

“The appointment of party office bearers at the State and district level is almost complete. Shortly thereafter, the party leadership is expected to organise the public meetings,” a party general secretary said.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister had recently convened a meeting with the party’s Maharashtra leaders including K Vamshidhar Rao, Manik Kadam, Shankar Anna Dhondge, Baburao Rathod, Bhagirath Balke and other regional co-ordinators and senior leaders. They reportedly discussed the party’s action plan for Maharashtra for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in April and May.

On August 30, Finance and Health Minister Harish Rao participated in the Markandeya Rathotsava organised by the Padmashali community in Solapur. Subsequently, venues at Balkot and Eidgah grounds were inspected for a large-scale public meeting in Solapur. After completing the groundwork, BRS leaders in Solapur are planning to discuss and finalise the meeting’s date upon meeting the Chief Minister.

With the ‘Ab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar’ slogan and the need for the Telangana model in Maharashtra, Chandrashekhar Rao is actively engaging with the people of the State. The unique appeal of the Telangana model, is drawing political leaders and activists from various parties, including Congress, BJP, NCP, Shiv Sena and AAP towards the BRS in Maharashtra. In addition to political leaders, influential social service organisations like the Shetkari Sangathan too are aligning themselves with the BRS. The party is gearing up for extensive activities across the State in line with its increasing popularity and demand.

US allows release of $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds

The report released early Tuesday by AP said the Biden administration has also agreed to release five Iranian citizens held in the United States.

It added that Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed off on the sanctions waivers late last week, a month after US and Iranian officials said an agreement in principle was in place on the issue.

The waiver means that European, Middle Eastern and Asian banks will not be in violation of US sanctions in converting Iran’s money, which was frozen in South Korea, and transferring it to Qatar’s central bank, where it will be held for Tehran to be used for the purchase of non-sanctioned goods.

Due to numerous US sanctions, several European countries were not willing to take part in the transfer. Blinken’s waiver is aimed at easing their concerns about any risk of US sanctions and applies to banks and other financial institutions in South Korea, Germany, Ireland, Qatar and Switzerland.

US media, however, claimed that the waiver is part of a larger agreement between the two countries, which also includes the exchange of prisoners between Tehran and Washington. They said five American prisoners detained in Iran will be allowed to leave in exchange for the transfer of the funds and the release of five Iranians held in the United States.

Top Iranian officials, however, have emphasized time and again that there is no connection between a prisoner exchange agreement reached with the United States and the release of Iran’s frozen assets.

Earlier in August, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, “The exchange of prisoners is a completely humanitarian issue and has nothing to do with unblocking our funds in foreign banks.”

He said the recent agreement reached between Tehran and Washington, mediated by a third country, covers two separate issues, one relating to the prisoners’ swap and the other about unfreezing Iranian assets illegally blocked overseas under the pretext of US sanctions.

He added that the process to transfer released Iranian assets from South Korean banks to a European bank started on August 10 and will be completed in several phases.

Iran’s top human rights official also said last week that the agreement between Tehran and Washington on the exchange of prisoners has nothing to do with the release of Iranian frozen assets.

Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, roundly dismissed the notion that Iran has agreed to release the American prisoners in order to have access to its assets.

He noted that the Islamic Republic entered negotiations with the American side about the exchange of prisoners only because it supports its citizens who have been jailed in the US on bogus charges.

US convoy transfers military equipment from Iraq to Syria: Report

In this file picture, a convoy of US vehicles is seen after withdrawing from northern Syria, on the outskirts of Dohuk, northern Iraq, on October 21, 2019. (By Reuters)

A convoy belonging to the US-led coalition has reportedly transferred military equipment, ammunition and fuel from American bases in Iraq to neighboring Syria.

Citing unnamed sources, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen news channel reported that the convoy had entered eastern Syria through the Faysh Khabur border crossing in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region on Monday night.

The US military has in recent months ramped up its military presence in Syria, a country gripped by a foreign-backed militancy since 2011 which has repeatedly denounced the deployment as “illegal”.

Last month, the Pentagon sent a convoy to the bases in eastern Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province through the Al-Waleed border crossing between Iraq and Syria.

Comprised of around 50 vehicles, the convoy reached US bases in the Koniko natural gas field and al-Omer oil field on August 14.

The Pentagon claims that the deployment of its forces and equipment in Syria is aimed at preventing oil fields from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.

Damascus, on the other hand, maintains that the deployment is meant to plunder the Arab country’s natural resources.

In letters sent to the UN on Sunday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry called for an end to the illegal presence of US occupation troops and return of the country’s energy reserves and natural resources to the Damascus government.

It also put the damage inflicted on the Syrian oil and mineral sectors as a result of “acts of aggression and sabotage” by US forces and their allied terrorists at $115.2 billion.
