A renowned poet who championed the voices of the underprivileged, Prabhakar hailed from Jagitial district, which was part of erstwhile Karimnagar district. Dozens injured as Israeli forces attack anti-settlement protests in West Bank

Dozens of Palestinians have sustained injuries when Israeli forces used tear gas and gunfire to disperse weekly anti-settlement rallies in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

According to Palestinian media outlets, the rallies were staged on Friday in Beit Dajan village and the town of Kafr Qaddum which are located 10 kilometers east and 13 kilometers west of Nablus respectively.

Ahmad Jibril, the head of the Palestinian Red Crescent Emergency and Ambulance Department in Nablus, said Israeli troops attacked protesters in Beit Dajan with rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas bombs, and stun grenades.

He added that the soldiers shot three Palestinians with tear gas canisters, one in the face and two others in the chest.

Jibril also said that Palestinian paramedics treated 21 people for the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Israeli forces also closed Huwwara and Beit Furik military checkpoints near Nablus and prevented the Palestinians from crossing.

Separately, at least four Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli forces’ rubber-coated steel bullets, as the occupation military suppressed the weekly anti-settlement demonstration in Kafr Qaddum.

One of the injured Palestinians was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the rest were treated in the field.

The anti-settlement protests come as more than 700,000 Israelis live in over 280 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds.

The international community views the settlements – hundreds of which have been built across the West Bank since 1967 – as illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions due to their construction on the occupied territories.

The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.

One Man Planned, Executed Rs 25-Crore Delhi Heist; Another Thief Did Him In

Just One Man Planned, Executed Rs 25-Crore Delhi Heist; Another Thief Did Him In

Srivas was arrested from Chhattisgarh on Friday.

New Delhi:

This is one thief who would have probably earned a hat-tip from the Professor in ‘Money Heist’.

The Rs 25-crore jewellery theft in Delhi, the biggest in the national capital in recent memory, was planned and executed by just one man from Chhattisgarh. He would have probably evaded the cops for longer, but for the arrest of another burglar in his state, who told the police that a man had just returned from Delhi after carrying out a “big job”.

The Theft

Lokesh Srivas, who was arrested on Friday morning and is currently in the custody of the Bilaspur Police, came to Delhi alone by bus earlier this month. Police said that he carried out a recce and also found out that his target, Umrao Jewellers in the Bhogal area, stayed shut on Mondays. He broke into the store from the adjacent building around 11 pm on Sunday, September 24.

He stayed in the shop the entire night and, besides stealing the jewellery that was on display, he made his way to the strongroom. He drilled a hole into the wall and took all the ornaments from the strongroom as well. He left the shop, the same way he had come, around 7 pm on Monday – almost 20 hours after he had entered it.

The owner found out about the theft when he opened the jewellery store on Tuesday, but Srivas was already well on his way to Chhattisgarh by then.

A police official said Lokesh left the shop and headed to the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) at Kashmere Gate in Delhi, stopping to buy an additional bag on the way to store his loot.

Luck Runs Out

The Durg Police in Chhattisgarh called the Delhi Police on Thursday and informed them that they had arrested a thief called Lokesh Rao, who had told them during questioning that one Lokesh Srivas had returned to his rented house in Bilaspur after carrying out a “big job” in Delhi

“We found a photo of Lokesh Srivas after an internet search and compared it with the suspects we had identified based on the CCTV footage that we had. We found that the build of the person in the photo matched with that of a suspect in a white shirt and black trousers, carrying a black bag, who was seen in Bhogal market on Sunday,” said an official from the Delhi Police.

Srivas’ mobile phone was tracked and the police found that it had been switched on at the ISBT in Kashmere Gate on Monday. CCTV footage from the bus terminus showed Srivas buying a ticket at 8.40 pm. The footage showed him carrying two bags.

Stakeout

A Delhi Police team left for Chhattisgarh on Thursday itself and reached Smriti Nagar in Bilaspur, where Srivas lives in a rented home, with teams from the Durg Police and Raipur Police. The cops waited outside the house for the entire night and arrested Srivas when he reached home at 5.45 am on Friday.

“Srivas is currently in the custody of the Bilaspur Police,” said a Delhi Police official.

New Delhi: The Law Commission of India in its report to Union Ministry of Law and Justice suggested that all e-FIRs should be forwarded to the concerned courts by linking the website of police with e-Courts portal.

This can be achieved by using the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), which allows digital signing of e-FIR and automatically sending it to the court.
The Law Commission in its report related to enabling online registration of FIR, stated that the online portal developed for registering e-FIR or e-Complaint must be user-friendly.

A Centralized System, as proposed, may be set up for processing information in order to expand the mode of electronic communication. The police officer shall use the information provided on this portal to check whether a cognizable offence has been committed or not and will proceed accordingly.

In this regard, the Commission recommends that suitable amendments be made to the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and other legislation to facilitate the registration of e-FIR.

The report further stated that the proposal of electronic registration of FIR which is being partly implemented for specified crimes in eight states (as per the information provided by BPR&D) has taken one step forward under Clause 173 in the proposed Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, which will replace the CrPC, 1973.

However, as per the proposed Clause 173 in the new Bill, while information can be given electronically for cognizable offences without any bar on jurisdiction, the police officer is required to take it on record after it has been signed within three days of giving the first information.

Further, the same has to be kept for record in a book by the Police Officer as prescribed by the State Government.

ln order to promote awareness among masses for the implementation of registration of e-FIR, information regarding this facility shall be widely disseminated so that the common man is encouraged to report offences without facing the hurdles of procedural formalities, it suggested.

For the successful implementation of the recommended IT initiatives, capacity building at various levels is extremely important. Hence, it is recommended that training programs must cover general/ basic computer awareness programs in addition to CCTNS-specific programs to ensure adoption of the system at the police station level, stated Law Commission.

The Legal Services Clinics in the Law Schools/Colleges universities should act as a catalyst and facilitator in bringing about this online revolution, stated the law Commission.

Law Commission further stated that It must be ensured that data provided while registering the FIR online is not compromised with and there is no infringement of privacy of the partiesinvolved. Privacy of the Informant/Complainant and the person named as ‘Suspect’ on the Centralized National Portal is to be secured till the e-FIR is not signed by the Informant/ Complainant. In case the registered information is not signed by the informant deliberately within the prescribed time, the information shall be deleted from the Centralized National portal after 2 weeks. The privacy of sexual offence victims must be given prime consideration at all stages.

In order to avoid false registration of e-Complaints/e-FIR and for the constructive use of the facility, it is important that the verification of complainant or informant is done using e-authentication techniques.

This can be achieved by verifying mobile number through OTP for the purpose of registering e-FIR/e-Complaint and mandating the uploading of valid ID proof like Aadhaar or any other Government-approved ID.

Declaration by the informant that the facts contained in the e-FIR are true to the best of knowledge, information and belief of the informant must be made mandatory, stated Law Commission in its report.

Municipal RI suspended, Rs 2 cr embezzlement case filed

Warangal: In a shocking development, a Revenue Inspector (RI) from the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) was suspended amid allegations of embezzling over Rs 2 crore from various departments.

The tainted RI, identified as Anvesh, allegedly committed these fraudulent activities during his tenure as a Camp Clerk/Personal Assistant to the then GWMC Commissioner Pamela Satpathy.

It is believed that Anvesh forged the signature of the then Commissioner, enabling him to withdraw the money from the municipal corporation’s bank accounts pertaining to the general funds. Shockingly, this embezzlement went undetected for over two years, raising questions about the GWMC’s oversight.

Matwada police have taken swift action by registering a case against Anvesh, charging him under multiple sections of the IPC and other relevant laws, and launching the investigation.

The 737 MAX-8 aircraft marks a critical step forward towards more sustainable operations. With its advanced technology winglets and efficient engines, it achieves a 20 per cent reduction in fuel use and emissions while also significantly decreasing noise pollution by 50 per cent compared to older models, as per the airline.

Tripartite deal envisages construction of refinery in Syria

Deputy Oil Minister Jalil Salari provided the information in an interview with Iranian media on Monday, as translated by Press TV website.

The deal foresees the construction of “a new 140,000-barrel refinery,” whose required oil would be provided jointly by the Islamic Republic and Venezuela, he said.

“The [relevant] fundamental studies and designing process [for implementation of the project] has been completed,” the official noted.

The refinery would complement two already functioning ones, the Banias Refinery and the Homs Refinery, which are both located in western Syria.

According to Salari, “the financing and construction [phases of the project] are on the agenda.”

Iran and Syria have also signed a memorandum of understanding towards repairing the 110,000-barrel oil refinery that is located in Homs, the Iranian official reported.

Analysts say cooperation among the threesome states exemplifies their indifference towards the United States-led campaign of sanctions that has similarly targeted them over their rejection of Washington’s efforts at regional and global dominance.

The cooperation also comes amid the ongoing illegal presence of US forces in Syria, who are engaged in stealing the Arab country’s direly needed oil resources.

US military trucks and tankers frequently carry tons of grain and crude oil from the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah to the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq as part of Washington’s systematic smuggling of basic commodities out of Syria.

The US military has for long stationed its forces and equipment in northeastern Syria, with the Pentagon claiming that the deployment is aimed at preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.

Damascus, however, maintains that the deployment is meant to plunder the country’s natural resources.

Former US President Donald Trump admitted on several occasions that American forces were in the Arab country for its oil wealth.
