BRAOU implements smart certificate printing for faster delivery

Hyderabad: Students of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University here will now receive their certificates faster with the university launching an inhouse smart certificates printing system. The undergraduate, post graduate and other programmes’ certificates will be handed over to students in one or two days as against the current duration of five to seven days.

Students applying before lunch time on a working day may get certificates on the same day. The in-house printing of smart certificate facility was launched by university Vice Chancellor Prof. K Seetharama Rao at the office of Controller of Examinations on the varsity campus here on Friday.

To begin with, certificates such as provisional, transfer certificate and bonafide will be printed in the new facility. Later on, the original degree will also be printed after necessary software is put in place.

The new certificates come on a special paper, which is tear-resistant and waterproof with long shelf life. In a move to curb fake certificate menace, several smart security features including an online certificate verification system were incorporated in the certificates.

Without having to refer to the university to check genuineness of the certificates, they can be verified simply by scanning the digital Quick Reaction (QR) codes printed on the certificates via QR code scanner on a smartphone. Student’s credentials such as name, father’s name, course, marks obtained and other details can be easily verified from anywhere and anytime.

Further, the open university’s certificates will also come with watermark, logo and unique identification number apart from paper thickness. Currently, the university is relying on the Government Security Printing Press in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to print its certificates.

“Now, that the in-house printing facility is launched, certificates will be handed over to students in a couple of days. Initially, bonafide, transfer and provisional certificates are printed. Later, original certificates with 18 different security features will be printed in the new facility,” an official said.

Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad played host to the Royal Air Force (RAF), which deployed four Typhoon aircraft and the groundbreaking Airbus 330 MRTT for daylight auto air-to-air refuelling.

The RAF aircraft made a scheduled refuelling stop at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday, and after completing their mission, they departed on Thursday.

Airport authorities expressed their pride in successfully accommodating the RAF aircraft and the Airbus 330 MRTT. In a statement, they emphasised that the event stands as a testament to the airport’s capabilities and readiness to handle advanced military aircraft.

Gareth Wynn Owen, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, took to social media to share his excitement about the significant development. He remarked that the RAF’s visit to Hyderabad showcases the growing defence interaction between the United Kingdom and Indian air forces.

The Royal Air Force is the aerial warfare branch of the United Kingdom’s armed forces. Established in April 1918 during World War I, the RAF has evolved into one of the world’s most technologically advanced and capable air forces.

Video: People Stranded After Flash Floods, New York Declares Emergency

Many of the city’s streets and highways are submerged under water.

New York City declared a state of emergency as strong torrential rains triggered flash floods and crippled movement across the city

The National Weather Service reported more than 2 inches (5.08 cm) of rainfall in some areas by Friday morning, with an additional 2 inches expected in the hours ahead.

“Escape Routes”

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley as rains obstructed roads, crippled subways and other modes of transport.

The severity of the floods became evident when the New York Governor asked residents to plan their “escape routes” and not wait till water levels “crossed their knees”.

New York’ Governor Kathy Hochul urged all New Yorkers to check weather updates and schedules and exercise caution.

In a press conference, Governor Hochul stressed the importance of safety and cautioned against attempting to travel on flooded roads.

She also added that officials were worried about those in basement homes after a number of people drowned during Hurricane Ida in 2021.

The massive storm that hit the city on Thursday night, left all of New York’s burrows and surrounding areas with flood warnings.

Public Transport Halted

The city’s public transport systems have broken down and streets and highways are submerged under water.

“There are currently service disruptions on every single line in the NYC subway system amidst extreme rain and flash flooding across the city,” said Manhattan Borough President Mark D. Levine.

New York city’s subway systems have halted and at least one terminal of the LaGuardia Airport closed on Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a stark advisory, urging residents to “move to higher ground now” and act quickly to ensure their safety.

The Subway department issued a statement warning the cities residents of limited train connectivity.

Photos and videos circulating the internet have revealed prominent parts of the city underwater. New Yorkers were seen wading through knee-high water.

Wettest Day In Two Years

In an online press conference, New York City emergency management commissioner Zachary Iscol. said that Friday marks wettest day since Hurricane Ida two years ago

“That is not a statistic to take lightly. It highlights just how crucial it is for all of us to pay close attention to the weather advisories and to always take the necessary precautions,” he added.

Mr Iscol also said that authorities expect another two to four inches likely throughout this afternoon.

“We have multiple contingency plans in place but ultimately, you know you’re your first line of defense for yourself and your loved ones,” he said.

Emergency alerts were sent to cellphones in the city at 9.30 am local time from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Centre’s disparity in Grant-in-aid funds to Telangana

Centre’s disparity in Grant-in-aid funds to Telangana

Grant-in-aid funding is typically provided by the union government to the States for the implementation of various schemes and programmes.

Hyderabad: Disparity in grant-in-aid funding to Telangana from the Centre is continuing to hinder the development of the State. Telangana received a meagre Rs.2,137 crore i.e., five per cent of the budget estimate of Rs.41,259 crore in the first five months of the current fiscal of 2023-24. This is, by far, the lowest percentage of grant-in-aid funding received against the budget estimates since State formation in 2014.

Grant-in-aid funding is typically provided by the union government to the States for the implementation of various schemes and programmes. This financial aid plays a crucial role in advancing the socio-economic development of regions across the country.

Despite playing a pivotal role in the country’s economy, Telangana has been facing the consistent harassment from the Centre in the form of inadequate funds. The latest data revealed that Telangana has frequently been on the receiving end of this disparity from the Centre. Soon after Telangana formation, the State government anticipated receiving Rs.21,720 crore in grant-in-aid from the Centre, but the actual allocation was a mere Rs.6,489 crore. This trend of under-funding has continued throughout the last nine years, with the union government allocating less than the State’s budget estimates.

Over the years, the budget estimates increased from Rs.21,720 crore in 2014-15 to Rs.41,001 crore in 2023-24. Similarly, the grants-in-aid rose from Rs.6,489 crore in 2014-15 to Rs.13,087 crore in 2022-23. Except for the fiscal years of 2019-20 and 2020-21 when the Covid-19 pandemic had an adverse impact on the economy, the grant-in-aid funds from the Central government never exceeded the budget estimates throughout this decade. Ironically for these two fiscals, the budget estimates were reduced significantly. The Central grants were largely around 31 per cent of the budget estimates.

However, the situation worsened in the current financial year, with only five percent of the expected grant-in-aid provided during the first five months. The Finance officials anticipate the grant-in-aid allocation to Telangana decrease further over the next couple of months, considering the election fever.

Interestingly, BJP-ruled States have been receiving substantial allocations. Gujarat, the home State of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, consistently received grant-in-aid in excess of its budget proposals. In the last fiscal year i.e. 2022-23, Gujarat requested Rs.15,982 crore in grant-in-aid from the Centre, but the actual allocation stood at a whopping Rs.23,131 crore, representing a 45 percent increase over the State’s estimate.

Congress-ruled States also appear to benefit more significantly from grant-in-aid funding than Telangana, raising questions about equitable distribution of resources and financial support to the States. For instance, Chhattisgarh was estimated to receive Rs.16,750 crore in grant-in-aid for the financial year 2022-23, and the Centre provided 79 percent of this estimate, amounting to Rs.13,148 crore.

Qatar calls on Tel Aviv regime to join NPT

Qatar’s request was made in a statement read out by Abdulaziz Al-Jabri, Qatar National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (NCPW) at the annual meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

Calling on all non-member states to join the NPT, the Qatar envoy said that the joining of the Israeli regime to the treaty and bringing all its nuclear facilities under the safeguard inspections by the IAEA is a prerequisite for the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

In this statement, Qatar also asked the IAEA director general to review the issue of “Israel’s nuclear capabilities” in the agency’s decision-making bodies.

The Zionist regime is the only possessor of nuclear weapons in the West Asian region that has not allowed the IAEA inspectors to inspect its nuclear facilities.

Last Date To Exchange Rs 2,000 Note Is September 30, Clarifies RBI

the RBI said that about 93 per cent of the Rs 2,000 banknotes have returned to the banking system.

New Delhi:

The Rs 2,000 denomination banknote will cease to have its value after Saturday and will be just another piece of paper if one does not get it exchanged in any bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) clarified on Friday.

The RBI had earlier fixed September 30, 2023, as the last date for the purpose of completing the exercise in a time-bound manner and to provide adequate time to the public.

Earlier last month, the RBI said that about 93 per cent of the Rs 2,000 banknotes have returned to the banking system since the central bank in May decided to withdraw the high-value note from circulation.

People were directed to exchange or deposit their Rs 2,000 notes in bank branches and regional branches of RBI. A non-account holder could also exchange Rs 2000 banknotes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time at any bank branch.

On May 19, the RBI decided to withdraw the Rs 2000 denomination banknotes from circulation but said it would continue to remain as legal tender. However, RBI had advised banks to stop issuing such banknotes with immediate effect.

The Rs 2000 denomination banknote was introduced in November 2016, primarily to meet the currency requirement of the economy in an expeditious manner after the withdrawal of the legal tender status of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes in circulation at that time.

The objective of introducing Rs 2000 banknotes was met once banknotes in other denominations became available in adequate quantities. Therefore, the printing of Rs 2000 banknotes was stopped in 2018-19.

Hyderabad sees 60% surge in housing supply

Hyderabad: Despite the traditional monsoon slowdown, Hyderabad has emerged as the shining star in India’s robust real estate sector in the third quarter of 2023. The latest data from Anarock Research reveals that Hyderabad experienced 60 per cent annual increase in new housing supply.

Across the top seven cities in India, a remarkable 1,20,280 residential units were sold in Q3 2023, marking a substantial 36 per cent annual growth from the same period in 2022. Among these cities, Mumbai led in housing sales with approximately 38,500 units sold, followed closely by Pune with around 22,880 units.

However, the true standout was Hyderabad, which recorded not only an impressive 41 per cent increase in housing sales year-on-year but also a remarkable 138 per cent quarterly surge in new housing launches.

The average residential property prices in the top seven cities collectively saw 11 per cent annual growth in Q3 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Hyderabad witnessed 18 per cent yearly increase in average residential prices, followed by Bengaluru with a 14 per cent annual rise.

The sustained momentum in housing sales and new launches can be attributed, in part, to the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to maintain a stable repo rate in recent monetary policies. This has kept home loan interest rates steady, bolstering the sentiment of potential homebuyers.

Looking ahead, Anuj Puri, Chairman of Anarock Group, predicts, “Considering the overall present economic scenario, the momentum in housing sales and new launches across the top 7 cities is expected to continue in the October-December quarter.”

Many of the large and branded developers have a healthy pipeline of new project launches in the upcoming festive quarter across the top seven cities and with homebuyer demand remaining firmly skewed towards projects by branded developers, these players may see record sales yet again, he added.
