The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ready to accept the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025, according to a report by India Today. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the competition citing security concerns and several media reports suggested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) wanted Pakistan to agree to a hybrid model of hosting. However, the report claims that the PCB has put forward three conditions in this scenario. While nothing official has been announced by either ICC or PCB, the report claimed that India will be playing their games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A look at the conditions put forward by PCB for agreeing to a hybrid Champions Trophy –

The matches involving the Indian cricket team will take place in Dubai. This includes group stage matches as well as semi-final and final (if they qualify).

If India fail to progress beyond the group stages of the competition, Pakistan will be hosting the semi-final and final in Lahore.

If India hosts any future ICC events, Pakistan will be playing their matches in neutral venues.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Emirates Cricket Board head Mubashir Usmani in Dubai amid deliberations on a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March next year.

According to a PCB statement regarding the meeting, Naqvi told Usmani that Pakistan was ready to host the Champions Trophy and all the preparations were on schedule.

Usmani is also the chairman of the ICC’s associate members’ committee.

According to sources, Naqvi also said that the situation in Pakistan was stable and all teams taking part in the mega-event would be provided state level security. He said the construction work at the stadiums which will host the tournament was also on schedule and the people of Pakistan were looking forward to watching the best teams and players play in the country.

At least 13 people have been killed in clashes in northwest Pakistan where a fresh bout of Takfiri violence has targeted Shia Muslims.

A deadly attack last week in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region bordering Afghanistan on a passenger convoy traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar has sparked widespread outrage and triggered clashes.

The Takfiri attack on the convoy, which included killing women and children, has raised suspicions among tribes.

A local official in Kurram district on Saturday attributed the tense situation to Takfiri terrorists operating in the restive tribal regions.

The government official said in the past two days 13 more people, mostly Shias, had been killed in new attacks, raising the total death toll since last week to 124.

Attacks on Shia Muslims in the past have been carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The Kurram district is located west of Peshawar and leads into the Paktia, Logar and Nangarhar provinces of eastern Afghanistan.

The Shia Muslim community in Pakistan has called on Islamabad to take immediate action to stop the ongoing massacre in the restive northwestern and unsafe parts of the country.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter of condolences last Thursday, expressed sympathy with the Pakistani government and nation, as well as the bereaved families of the victims of the attacks.

50-Year-Old Indian-Origin Man Gets Life Term For Girlfriend's Murder In UK

London:

An Indian-origin man who brutally beat up his girlfriend to death at his home in East Midlands region of England, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a UK court.

Police described it as a case of domestic abuse and said it is vital anyone suffering gets the support they need to put a stop before it is too late.

Raj Sidpara, a 50-year-old resident of Leicester, was convicted last week of the murder of Tarnjeet Riaz, also known as Tarnjeet Chagger, following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

On Friday, Raj Sidpara was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years behind bars before being considered for parole, according to Leicestershire Police.

The couple had been in a relationship for around five months and by the time emergency services were called to his home on Tarbat Road on the afternoon of May 6, Tarnjeet was already dead.

Tarnjeet, 44, was found with extensive trauma to her face, as well as multiple broken ribs, when she was found unresponsive by the emergency services, who had been called by Sidpara.

In October, Sidpara admitted the lesser manslaughter charge of causing the injuries to his girlfriend but denied intending to kill her or cause her serious harm.

The court heard that his victim was left with “two enormous black eyes”, bleeding on the brain and 20 rib fractures, among other injuries. “You have steadfastly refused to explain what you did or why,” Judge William Harbage said, addressing the accused in court.

“What’s clear is that you attacked her in a savage and merciless way; you punched, kicked and stamped on her in a sustained attack,” a BBC court report read.

The court heard that Sidpara was diagnosed with alcohol dependence syndrome and had 24 previous convictions for 46 offences, including threats to kill and harassment of previous girlfriends and people connected to them.

Sidpara’s sentencing comes as Leicestershire Police said it has joined organisations across the globe to support “White Ribbon Day”, focussed on targeted action around violence against women and girls.

“Tarnjeet was killed at the hands of someone she was in a relationship with. Someone who should have supported and protected her, not someone she should have feared would brutally attack her,” said Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Emma Matts.

“While the person responsible will now spend many years behind bars, Tarnjeet’s family are left with so many questions and the overwhelming feeling of wondering if they could have done more.

We know domestic abuse is very complex. Often victims don’t want to share with family and friends the details of what is happening behind closed doors, let alone with police, but it is vital anyone suffering gets the support they need to put a stop to the abuse before it is too late,” she said.

3 Girls Playing Around Garbage Bonfire Die Of 'Gas Poisoning' In Gujarat

3 Girls Playing Around Garbage Bonfire Die Of 'Gas Poisoning' In Gujarat

Surat:

Five girls were playing around a bonfire in Gujarat’s Surat on Friday evening. Hours later, three were dead leaving two survivors to tell the nightmarish tale that led up to their deaths.

The group had gathered around the bonfire, made from burning garbage in an open field in Pali village in the Sachin area. The girls started vomiting after inhaling fumes from the fire and fainted soon after. All of them were rushed to a private hospital where three of them – Durga Mahanto (12), Amita Mahanto (14), and Anita Mahanto (8) – died.

“While they were warming themselves, the girls started vomiting and fell unconscious. They were rushed to a hospital where three of them died,” said Sachin GIDC-1 police inspector JR Chaudhari.

The police officer said that the exact cause of death will be known after a postmortem report is prepared and forensic examination conducted. “Prima facie, inhaling a poisonous gas seems to be the cause,” he said.

The aunt of Durga Mahanto claimed that they first took her to Civil Hospital in Navsari but the staff allegedly asked them to leave around 1 am. They then took her to another hospital where she died around 6.30 am on Saturday.

Durga Mahanto’s father, Ram Pravesh Mahanto, said that after taking some medicines one of the children got better but Durga’s condition kept getting worse. “I don’t even know how did this happen. “When I came back home from work I saw the girls and then took them to hospital,” he said.

He claimed that at the Navsari hospital, the staff told them that the girls needed to be tested but the blood reports would only come on Monday, as the lab is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Surat Civil Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr Ketan Naik said the girls might have fallen ill after inhaling the toxic fumes.

He said that some of the girls also had eaten ice cream at night, so there was also a possibility of food poisoning.

“Things will become clear after postmortem and forensic investigation,” he added.

2nd Hindu Priest Arrested In Bangladesh Amid Protests: ISKCON Member

Days after the arrest of Spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, another Hindu priest was arrested in Bangladesh’s Chattogram, sources said on Saturday. The arrested priest was identified as Shyam Das Prabhu, who reportedly went to meet Chinmoy Krishna Das in jail.

He was arrested without any official warrant, the sources said, adding that the practice allows authorities to detain someone and release them later.

Radharamn Das, Vice-President and Spokesperson, ISKCON Kolkata also posted about the monk’s arrest on X (formally Twitter) on Friday, and said, “Another Brahmachari Sri Shyam Das Prabhu was arrested by Chattogram Police today.”

Hindu Monk’s Arrest & Violence In Bangladesh

Hindu priest, Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former member of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) of Bangladesh, was arrested on Monday in connection with a sedition case. His arrest triggered protests by Hindu community members in various locations in Bangladesh, including in the capital Dhaka and Chattogram.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was denied bail by a Chattogram court on Tuesday, which followed clashes between the police and protestors demanding his release. Assistant public prosecutor Saiful Islam was killed in the clashes.

Bangladesh police have so far arrested nine persons in connection with the lawyer’s murder, police said on Saturday. They were arrested after a case was filed against 46 persons, mostly cleanliness workers belonging to the minority Hindu community.

Meanwhile, three Hindu temples were vandalised by a slogan-shouting mob on Friday in Chattogram, which has witnessed protests and violence since a former ISKCON member was booked under sedition charges.

The attack took place around 2:30 pm in the port city’s Harish Chandra Munsef Lane, where the Shantaneshwari Matri Temple, the nearby Shoni Temple, and the Shantaneshwari Kalibari Temple were targeted, news portal BDNews24.com reported.

“A group of several hundred slogan-shouting people threw brickbats at the temples, damaging the Shoni Temple and the gates of the other two temples,” the news portal quoted temple authorities as saying.

Kotwali Police Station chief Abdul Karim confirmed the attack, saying that assailants attempted to damage the temples.

Violence Against Minorities In Bangladesh

Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest came amid tensions over minority rights in Bangladesh, which has seen widespread political violence since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. Since the ouster of former PM Sheikh Hasina, the new military-backed interim government led by Mohammed Yunus has faced criticism for failing to curb a spike in violence against minorities.

Hindus comprise approximately 8 per cent of Bangladesh’s 170 million people.

Warangal Architect makes history: Shashank Bhoopathi chosen as Telangana’s first ISRO Space Tutor

Hyderabad: Shashank Bhoopathi, an architect from Warangal, has been selected as Telangana’s first Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Space Tutor.

Recently, ISRO selected a few Space Tutors across the country to promote space education. Bhoopathi was the candidate chosen from Telangana. Bhoopathi graduated in Architecture from JNAFAU University, founded Ancient Technologies Design Research Lab to explore how ancient knowledge can solve modern challenges.

His work involves studying ancient architectural sites, developing theories based on their design principles, and building prototypes. These prototypes are designed to be integrated into future space missions, aiming to make space exploration more efficient. Bhoopathi’s projects include modular spacecrafts, lightweight and collapsible astronaut housing, and innovative satellite designs.

Space Research Architecture is a rare field, with very few experts globally and only two companies in India. Bhoopathi’s company is the only one in South India, making his work even more significant. His innovative designs have earned him invitations to universities across India, where he conducts workshops and shares his vision for blending ancient and modern science.

As an ISRO Space Tutor, Bhoopathi says he plans to inspire students through workshops and seminars. He is also working on a new project to integrate magnetic field technology into space structures, inspired by ancient science. Speaking about his vision, he said, “Ancient architecture holds valuable lessons for sustainability and efficiency. By adapting these principles, we can create smarter and more reliable systems for space exploration.”

Syrian forces target Takfiri terrorists amid fierce battle for Aleppo

The Syrian Army forces continue to repel attacks by foreign-backed terrorist groups in the country’s northwestern areas, especially second largest city of Aleppo.

Local media said on Saturday that the Syrian military, backed by Russian air power, launched retaliatory strikes against terrorist positions on the outskirts of Aleppo and the eastern countryside of Idlib.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network cited Syrian sources as saying that there was a “cautious calm” in the axes of Aleppo after Takfiri terrorists entered the western neighborhoods of the city, with the Syrian warplanes continuing to target them.

“Armed terrorist groups have spread across about 60% of the area of Aleppo,” the television network said. “They are imposing a curfew on residents in their areas of deployment until further notice. The Syrian army has redeployed towards Aleppo airport to protect the city from destruction.”

Al-Mayadeen said residents of Nubl and Zahraa in the northern countryside of Aleppo had evacuated the towns before the entry of the foreign-backed terrorists.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allied terrorist factions advanced into sections of Aleppo on Friday, seizing areas including al-Hamdaniyah, al-Furqan, and al-Zahraa after two days of heavy clashes, according to local sources. However, Syrian forces quickly launched counter-operations to repel them.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based monitor, said Russian warplanes had launched raids on areas of Aleppo city for the first time since 2016 to stop terrorist advances.

State media reported that four civilians were killed when HTS shelled a student residence in Aleppo.

Last month, Russian and Syrian warplanes carried out raids on the HTS positions in the Idlib and Latakia countrysides in Syria, targeting the terrorists’ training sites and warehouses, in addition to an underground tunnel in the vicinity of the town of Benin in Jabal al-Zawiya.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly known as the Nusra Front, is considered a terrorist organization by Syria, Russia, and several other countries.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-sponsored militancy since March 2011, with Damascus saying the Western states and their regional allies are aiding terrorist groups to wreak havoc in the Arab country.

The onslaught on Aleppo marking the resurgence of Takfiri terrorism came just after Israel submitted to a ceasefire in its war on Lebanon where Hezbollah put up fierce up resistance to Israeli troops trying to occupy pockets of the country’s south.

Israeli aircraft bombed sites along Syria’s border with Lebanon, the Israeli military said Saturday, testing a fragile, days-old ceasefire that halted months of fighting.
