Rahul Dravid revealed that KL Rahul will not be playing as wicketkeeper and his choice will be between two other wicketkeepers KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel

Indian coach Rahul Dravid speaking ahead of India’s first Test against England in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad: The England Test side has been making news with their new ultra-aggressive style of cricket ‘Bazball’ but Indian coach Rahul Dravid, who is impressed with their brand of cricket, expects the Indian condition to pose serious threat to the visitors in the upcoming five-match Test series.
Speaking ahead of India’s first Test against England in Hyderabad, beginning from Thursday, Dravid said, “They have been playing well. It is exciting to watch them. They had success playing like that. They did well in Pakistan and New Zealand. So they are playing cricket and we have to respect that. But it is going to be challenging for them in these conditions. We know these conditions well and we have experience in our attack. I am looking forward to seeing how our bowlers respond. I hope we respond strongly and positively.”
He also backed Indian batters to take on the game. “I don’t think we are going out there to try to be ultra-attacking. I think we look to play what’s in front of us, what the situation demands. But by nature, if you look at our top six-seven batsmen, there are a lot of guys who are naturally positive and look to take the game on. There’ll be some different situations in which we may need to look to push the game along or we might have to bat for long periods. But I can’t see any of my batsmen taking a backward step or looking to be defensive,” Dravid said.
The 51-year-old also revealed that KL Rahul will not be playing as wicketkeeper and his choice will be between two other wicketkeepers KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel. Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli has chosen to skip the first two Tests due to ‘personal reasons’ and the coach said he will be missed. “Any team will miss the quality of Virat. No doubt he is a phenomenal player. He is a huge boost to the side. Having said that, it will present an opportunity to other players to step up and put in some performances.”
Though majority of England cricket team players didn’t have experience of playing in India, Dravid expects a tough series. “Even though they have not played in India, a lot of their players have travelled to these sub-continent countries. They did well in Pakistan and have many players playing in the IPL.” When asked about the Hyderabad wicket, he said, “It is hard to say. It looks good one. It may spin during the course of the game but not sure how quickly,” he added.
Meanwhile, England fast bowler Mark Wood felt India have quality batters despite the absence of Kohli. “No doubt he is a great batter but India have quality lineup and whoever steps in should be also a quality player. India has been consistent, covering all the bases. They have developed a winning habit.”
Wood said that they are raring to go after good preparations in Abu Dhabi. However, the pacer is aware of the challenge ahead in Indian conditions. “The conditions are obviously different here in India. The pitches might help spinners and also help seam bowling with bounce as was in the last World Cup. It is going to be hard, will try to get the ball reverse swing.”

Dubai: India skipper Rohit Sharma was named captain with five other Indians making the cut for ICC Men’s ODI team of the year released on Tuesday.
Joining Rohit in the ICC Men’s T20I team of the year are Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Shami, with Travis Head (Australia), Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand), Heinrich Klaasen (wk) (South Africa), Marco Jansen (South Africa), Adam Zampa (Australia) also making the cut.
Rohit continued his remarkable record in ODI cricket with yet another sensational year in 2023 with the bat as he amassed a whopping 1255 runs at an average of 52. He was at his brilliant best throughout much of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with his magnificent knock of 131 against Afghanistan in Delhi a clear highlight. Gill established himself as Rohit’s preferred partner at the top of batting order at the start of 2023 when he smashed a wonderful 208 from just 149 deliveries against New Zealand in Hyderabad. It was one of five occasions that Gill managed to reach triple figures in 50-over in 2023 and no player finished with more runs (1584) than the star right-hander compiled during the calendar year.
Kohli compiled yet another consistent 12 months in 2023 and only teammate Shubman Gill bettered his total of 1377 runs during the calendar year. Kohli reached three figures on six occasions in 2023, breaking Sachin Tendulkar‘s record for most international centuries during India’s World Cup campaign on his way to winning the Player of the Tournament award at the showcase event.
The exciting right-armer, Siraj, collected a total of 44 wickets during 2023, with his most impressive performance coming in the final of the Asia Cup as he single-handedly destroyed Sri Lanka’s strong batting line-up. He ripped through the Sri Lanka top-order on his way to career-best figures of 6/21 as India clinched the Asia Cup title in style, and entered their home World Cup campaign full of confidence.
No player in the world picked up more wickets than Kuldeep last year, with the in-form left-arm spinner finishing 2023 with an imposing total of 49 ODI scalps. Kuldeep’s biggest haul came against arch-rival Pakistan during the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup as the spinner collected the excellent figures of 5/25 to help India on their path to the title.
Movahed Mohammadpour (two goals), Amir Hossein Akbari, Mohammad Moradi, Ali Mirshekari, Mohammad Ali Mokhtari and Ivan Kanstantsinau (own goals) scored for Team Melli.

Players from Haryana Steelers catch hold of Telugu Titans raider.
Hyderabad: Resolute defence of Haryana Steelers saw them clinch a 37-30 win over hosts Telugu Titans in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match in the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Monday.
Defenders Rahul Sethpal and Mohit Nadal, with eight and six points respectively, helped the visitors collect 18 tackle points more than their raid points in the entire match. Titans entered the game high on confidence after their win over UP Yoddhas in the last game and captain Pawan Sehrawat started the game with an average of 15.3 raid points against the Steelers. He collected a super raid in the first raid of the match.
Steelers, eyeing redemption after losing to Titans earlier in the season, struggled with raiding in the opening phase of the game but their defence stood tall with Rahul leading the line. In the first strategic timeout, the home side trailed 8-11.
And with four minutes to go before the interval, the Titans endured their first All Out at the score of 20-11 in the Steelers’ favour and ended half time upper-hand at 24-12 score. And soon followed the shocking decision as coach Srinivas Reddy substituted Pawan Sehrawat with raider Robin Chaudhary at the start of the second half with the team trailing 15-27.
Eyeing a comeback, Titans inflicted an All Out to reduce the margin to 28-34. But the tie was still in the visitors’ grab. At the end, the lead was too much for the home side as they picked up their second loss at home.
