IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma becomes first Indian to hit 500 T20 sixes

Mumbai: India and Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Rohit Sharma became the first Indian to smash 500 sixes in T20 cricket.

The ‘Hitman’ achieved this milestone during his side’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit was at his vintage best in the match, scoring 105* in 63 balls. His knock was studded with 11 boundaries and five sixes.

Amid the fall of wickets around him, the former Mumbai Indians skipper held the fort at one end, blazing away at a strike rate of 166.67.

After Ajinkya Rahane (5) and Rachin Ravindra (21 in 16 balls, with two fours and a six) did not make much impact, Gaikwad (69 in 40 balls, with five fours and five sixes) and Shivam Dube (66* in 38 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes) stitched a 90-run partnership. Later, MS Dhoni (20* in four balls) came during the final over and a hat-trick of sixes took CSK to 206/4 in 20 overs.

Rohit managed to score his second IPL ton, but did not get much support from the other end, except for another fifty-run stand with Tilak Varma (31 in 20 balls, with five fours). The Blue and Gold franchise ended with 186/6 on the board, losing by 20 runs.

Pat Cummins reveals his favourite memory, food in India in fun Q/A session

Bengaluru: Australia and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins on Sunday revealed his some of his “favourites” in a fun ‘Question and Answer’ session.

Taking to his Instagram, Cummins asked his fans to drop some questions and he answered some of them.

One of the users asked Cummins about his favourite memory in India, to which the Australian replied by posting a picture of the Australian team posing with their sixth ICC Cricket World Cup title, that they won by beating India last year by seven wickets in November at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On his favourite SRH teammate, Cummins posted a picture of him with compatriot Travis Head, who has played some vital knocks for Australia in big matches over the years, notably the ICC World Test Championship final and ICC Cricket World Cup final against India last year, scoring match-winning centuries in both games.

Cummins also shared with fans that his favourite Indian food is Pav Bhaji, a popular street food snack. A user asked the Australian star how he could increase his height, to which Cummins hilariously replied, “Ask Marco”, referring to South African pacer Marco Jansen, who is around six foot nine inches tall.

Cummins’-led SRH will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the latters’ home venue of M Chinaswammy Stadium. While SRH is in the fifth spot with three wins and two losses, RCB is desperately searching for wins and is at the bottom with a win and five losses. SRH has impressed in IPL 2024 so far with their attacking cricket, especially in batting.

Cummins has also impressed with his captaincy tactics. In five matches, he has picked six wickets at an average of 24.33, with the best figures of 2/35.

Nadal drawn against Cobolli at Barcelona Open, Spaniard trying to return from injury

Barcelona: Rafael Nadal was drawn to face Flavio Cobolli at the Barcelona Open in what would be the Spaniard’s first clay-court appearance this year in the buildup to the French Open.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion had hip surgery last summer and this year has played only three competitive matches — in Brisbane before skipping the Australian Open.

The 37-year-old Nadal pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters before it started because of a lingering injury, saying “ my body simply won’t allow me.” Nadal, a 12-time champion in Barcelona, has not confirmed he will play but he spoke at the draw ceremony ahead of the first round next week.

He said, “I’m happy to be here,” but didn’t commit to playing. In early March, Nadal played an exhibition match against Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas but days later pulled out of the Indian Wells tournament. The French Open, which Nadal has won a record 14 times, begins May 25
